it's a great old dive bar! i wanted the olive burger because it was born in Lansing. first bite was GARLIC (which i dislike) so it ruined my entire meal, let alone i had a dr appt afterwards & reeked of that nasty smell. the bartender told me "next time don't order it". the original sauce recipe calls for 3 ingredients: olives, brine & mayo. i'm not sure why this trend of putting garlic in/on everything has taken over but it really detracts from the flavor of most food (except Italian of course). not sure i'll go back to the Mayfair if they treat all their customers with the same indignant attitude. read more

Mayfair used to be part of my stomping grounds, as I attended the local schools, since returning as a responsible adult they have added a rooftop bar that adds AMAZING VIEWS to your visit. Views of what you might ask, the bar is conveniently located next to the public access park at Lake Lansing and offers views of the Lake and surrounding area. The parking can be a bit of a struggle given there are two bars/restaurants and a liquor store sharing the same parking lots. However, there is a gated lot that holds reserved parking for the Mayfair. The food is your traditional bar fair, nothing to write home about but nothing to really complain about either. The drink selection is plentiful and like with most bars, you can find a DJ, trivia, pool, darts, or shuffleboard happening on any given night. The team members are always polite and seemingly welcoming but at times the patron demographic may not match that same energy. The Mayfair is a dependable place to hang with locals, take in some fried foods and cold drinks, and stay close to MSU country for a game day! read more

We used to love coming here for dinner, but since new ownership, the food is NOT what we we're used to. The nacho's I ordered had no refried beans, very little cheese and was cold. My husband's fish dinner had Cole slaw that was the worst he's ever had. It was made with kale and other mystery greens. I informed the waiter my nacho's were missing refried beans but he all he said was, "yeah refried beans are supposed to be on them." Never came back for drink refills, either. Had to track down another waitress. We love this bar and location, but because of crappy food and service, we won't be back. read more

Just left. Waited 10 minutes saw no waitperson. The woman who finally came acted pissed off because I asked if she was all alone. There were about 30 patrons and she was it for service and bartender. We've been going to the Blue Gill next door for some time and tonight they had their outdoor seating closed... and we like to stay outdoors when we can (COVID). So we decided to go here since they had their rooftop open and it was a really nice night especially in the sun. Food was very good, service was great and our waiter was tentative. We will definitely be back as they said they plan to have the rooftop open for at least another month. Also there is a lot of food options so I look forward to trying something new next time!! read more

We went on a quiet Sunday evening for burgers. Burgers were flavorful and cooked to perfection. Fries are crinkle fries and oh so good. One of the best burger spots in town, especially for the price. Bacon cheeseburger, fries and a pint for under $20. Yes, this is a "hole in the wall" place, but that is part of its charm. Service was great, food came out in a reasonable time, and we will definitely be back. We told them we were first timers and everyone came to check on us to make sure we had a great visit. First, I've only sat in the upstairs patio & I must admit I like the setting a lot. Sitting above any foot or motor traffic (which isn't much as it is located on a road which dead-ends into Lake Lansing), there is an "away from it all" feel with a great view of the park across the street & the lake at the end of the road. A fine selection of beers, including craft beers, and wide selection of burgers make this a fine gathering place to relax & swap stories with family or friends. One caveat, the buffalo fries were swimming in hot sauce & not served hot. While it sounded good on the menu, the execution was under whelming. Bartenders are rude, fail to properly engage their customers, and clearly have no idea or inclination how to provide good service. Before I made the conscious decision to stop patronizing this dive, i would frequently find myself sitting with an empty glass, watching the staff happily talking among themselves at the end of the bar, completely oblivious to their customers. Part of this may be that I am relatively new in town, and this is obviously a bar for locals, but I guess in this day in age I expect more than this blatantly hickish behavior from an establishment which derives its revenue from serving the public. read more
