I regularly go to Holt Buddies. Staff always friendly. Good food. So glad it's part of my community!

Buddies is a great place to eat. The inside is nothing too crazy but the food is worth it. We all got something different. Burgers were seasoned very well and cooked to pit linking. Onion rings were a big hit and very tasty! The chicken quesadilla I think is the best thing on the menu! Chicken was shredded with peppers and cheese on the inside. It's the size of a medium pizza and could honestly feed 2 people depending on their hunger! Our server was great! They were busy and she made sure we were well taken care of. We eat at buddies at least once a week. Very rarely do we find something that we do not like. They always try to help in that situation. Staff has always been very courteous, I'll keep coming back. read more

The Food is absolutely delicious & they have a lot of choices. . The Waitstaff are pretty prompt & courteous. The seating is OK but not cushioned... the high tops are not comfortable. Adding large Booths in the side Dining Room would be a welcome addition as most folks don't like sitting looking at the wall while eating... when seated at the Wall Booths with chairs on the opposite side - all during your meal - you're looking at the wall. If large Booths seating 4 to 6 people... were installed sideways & the backs not too tall... it would make Buddies a GREAT place to relax & everyone can basically look around . The Cocktails are just OK... they seem to skimp on alcohol & put too much ice in Long Islands & Gin or Vodka Tonics. The Food prices are very reasonable & they have a Great Junior/Senior Menu for $7 - $8, I gave this only ; 4 Stars -because the Ambiance is greatly lacking - due to the fact that their annoying Ceiling lights are still like BRIGHT Spotlights usually pointed right at you while eating... & in the side Dining area ... its the same - but the room being bigger it feels like were eating in a well lit Cafeteria or Gymnasium. Several of us have mentioned the lights being annoyingly too bright to various Waitstaff - Sadly - the Manager - is usually not available to talk to any of us. We would appreciate it if the Owner would just simply installl a DIMMER on their light switches. If they don't know how - I'm sure an Electrician to do it. Bring a sweater or a jacket too ... as It's also very cold - so that if you get any hot food - especially a Steak - you have to eat really quick or your Food gets cold. read more

This is my go to spot for beer and bar food. They have awesome nachos and burritos. Their fish and fries are good too. Went there on a Sunday and thought I would try the first dish on their American food menu Cowboy meatloaf dinner. What a disappointment. I could barely taste the meatloaf. It was a slice of meatloaf covered with mashed potatoes covered with cheese sprinkled with bacon and topped with thin onion rings. It was as if it was already mixed before getting into my stomach. I went in and because I was meeting someone I looked around as I came in the door. Since I didn't see them I picked a table and sat down. Even after my person got there not one person approached our table to give us menus. After some time I asked a person at the bar if someone could come over to take our order. Well they said I was supposed to be seated. OKAY I didn't see a sign, they did SEE me sit down and could have come over to tell me THEY needed to seat me. Makaela was a phenomenal waitress. Upbeat and courteous, she covered the entire dining room with admirable ease. We had three generations dining and all our selections were spot on. Thank you. Ordered to go via phone for Friday night's dinner. Chicken fettuccine Alfredo is dinner special food and it tasted horrible. I didn't believe much when my husband said the food was no flavor until I got some for myself. Feel like they just poured the white sauce and not adding anything else. Very plain. Shrimp taco is my favorite at Buddies but sometimes they grilled the shrimps, sometimes they don't. Not sure why. The only good thing is a cup of chicken noodle soup. I am so glad I've found this place!! The food is really good quality and beautifully prepared! Portion sizes are generous making every meal a great value. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This review is solely based off take out! We ordered online and it was super easy to maneuver, quoted us a time and our food was actually ready 20 minutes sooner. We called as we were driving up and upon pulling up they were walking out at the same time while wearing a mask! Everything was super smooth and easy for anyone! Lobster rangoon were very yummy and definitely had lobster in them with a chili sauce, broccoli bowl entree was a huge portion, burger was perfectly cooked! Everything was amazing and delicious! Came today for lunch. Host said about a 5 to 10 minute wait even though there were several tables open. We surmised that was due to the difficulty of getting good help. We were OK with that and began to wait. After about 10 minutes another party of three came in and we're seated immediately! Apparently the host knew them and was saving them a table. I have heard so much about Buddies from local friends and decided to give it a shot tonight. The restaurant was huge, and had a warm and welcoming feel. My boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken dinner and I ordered a wet burrito. The presentation was nice and the food was good. The grilled chicken was just a little dry, but otherwise tasted good. The wet burrito was HUGE. I would recommend the smaller size instead of the full, unless you want left overs. I went with beef for the burrito and it was a little greasy, but other than that, it was fine. The restaurant was busy and they may have been understaffed because our service was a slow. We never got water refills, and it took a while to get our servers attention to pay our bill and request a box. We did feel the prices were fair here, and we will probably give the other locations a shot to try different menu items. read more

Bartender let me sit for 12 minutes before offering me any service. I asked for a beer and a menu. My beer was empty for 10 min before she offered me another. She never took my food order. When I asked for the check she ignored me for 7 minutes. I don't know if she was t trained right or was unhappy to be here on Halloween. Very disappointed. read more

The server Jessica and the bartender Erica were extremely rude. Jessica over charged me and once confronted, was very rude and obnoxious. She yelled across my table to the bartender after lying saying she was the manager and then Erica proceeded to argue about the miscommunication of the server. Their behaviors were absolutely disgusting as we were the only african americans in the restaurant, they thought they could get over on us. Came here early-ish dinner on a Thursday. Our server couldn't tell us the drink specials and didn't even offer to find out for us. We ordered apps to share instead of entrees, took 30 mins to come out. Server never checked on us this whole time to refill drinks or update us why the food was taking so long. I had the breakfast buffet. Not a real fan of buffets, but this wasn't bad. Eggs were real, fruit was fresh, never frozen. The wait staff was attentive, but not overbearing, polite, but not fake friendly. That's all i have ever eaten here, so that's all I can comment on. read more

Probably the worst service I have ever received anywhere. Came in to meet some friends, never acknowledged once. After 20 minutes went up to the bar and had to wait for the staff to finish their conversation before one of them finally acknowledged me. Got my drinks, but when it was time for more the service was still lack luster. They close at 2am yet felt like they closed at 1am. Will not return, and obviously the employees can't be bothered by customers. No wonder the place was empty on a Friday night. read more

I don't often give 5 stars, but this place was awesome! Was here for a luncheon for the Michigan School for the blind and the staff was so accommodating and kind for everyone. The waitstaff READ the entire flipping menu out for all the blind customers (we had a private room). That's definitely going above and beyond! I wouldn't expect that normally, but with a large group of blind customers it was a nice treat! Food was served quick and orderly for such a large group of 40 or so people. This one is a tough one for me because I have been here a couple times but there is a lot on the menu that I have not tried that might sway me higher. First dilemma...do I rate it as "a bar" or "a restaurant". It is basically a good sized "Sports Bar" with food. As a sports bar...I would give it a 4+ It is big, lots of TVs, great bar selection, craft beers....would be a great place to stop after work for drinks/apps or to watch a game As a "restaurant"??? Eh....I gave it a 3 and based on my two visits for lunch I would be rounding up as I would say 2.5 really. But then...I have not tried their pizzas or several other things that I read are good so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. What I DID try was their brisket. I have had it as a Sandwich and a entree. To be fair, I have eaten brisket in Brisket Mecca (Texas) at several top places and also had good brisket in OH (See my review of City Limit BBQ) At Buddies...pretty disappointed. The sandwich was better as it came on great bread and with the toppings adding some flavor it was ok. And the french fries that came with it were good. As a entree....well there the meat has to stand on it's own....and it fell flat. I got several slices and I basically could not make out any "smoke" flavor...or seasoning.... all I tasted was dry beef. Instead of a BBQ sauce it came with a sauce on the side that was a red wine/onion/mushroom reduction that had great ambition but was bland. I think it needed salt. And maybe some pepper. All I know is it really lacked something. My sides (you get two with an entree) were a good but nothing special. Chicken Noodle Soup was pretty darn good and wild rice pilaf, you can only do so much with that but it was good as far as rice pilaf goes.. (I was good and avoided their really good fries this time) I keep thinking other stuff must be better than the brisket and that lead me to give them a 3 instead of a 2. I will have to try their pizza and some of the chicken dishes. Maybe even one of the Mexican dishes . Lots of things I have not tried. But if it was looking for a sports bar in the Mason/Holt area without driving up to Lansing this is by far the best. read more

Entered this place with a lot of hype behind it. My friends talked nothing but good things so I was excited. As I entered it was very crowded which is a good sign yet it was very disorganized and I saw a lot of confusion with everything. Me and my party were seated and I ordered a drink off menu which was a common drink (Southern Hurricane). After ordering it, it took them over 20 mins just for them to come back and tell me that "no one knew how to make it" And after waiting that long for the drink I just ordered something which was completely different "White Russian", and after 10 mins later I got it and even after that there was under pouring. Needless to say I stuck with Dr. Pepper after that. So as my food came in, I ordered what sounded like a good flavorful burger. The Chuckwagon I believe. And I ordered it as medium. And as it came over it looked great. Topping looked very well presented. Fries were good. and that is about it. After cutting the burger in half as I am used to doing to see how it was cooked, it was completely overdone (No juice or anything with the meat). And after taking a few bites I realized that there was no way I could continue. And after that not once was I asked how my food was. At all. I payed for my meal (unfortunately I did not get recompense for the meal, but I get it, it is a business). I am not posting this to be a person saying "STAY AWAY", but I want to leave this a something to work on and to get better at. I don't know if I will ever come back again, and I am not sure if I want to. But these are my 2 cents. I hope it can change. Other than that, the fries were good and so was the appearance.
