I purchased a Certified Preowned 2021 Honda Pilot from Westbrook Honda back in late September. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I initially found it on CarGurus, called and spoke to the sales Manager Dan. I had been shopping with other deals and was refreshed by how simply he made the initial process.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The car itself was a diamond in the rough and I purchased it two days later. After about a week I noticed increasingly more noticeable brake pulsation/vibration which I know (from years working in the automotive industry) to be indicative of warped brake rotors. Made an appointment with Westbrook Honda two days before my CPO warranty ran out, upon inspection it was deemed that the rotors needed to be resurfaced. I was hesitant and preferred to have them replaced. Reluctant to look a gift horse in the mouth, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I expressed my concern to Shannon (the service advisor) and she spoke to Dan who had them go ahead and do it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am grateful and appreciative of the positive experience I had with Westbrook Honda.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I live 1 hour away and it is well worth my drive. There has been some kind of issue or problem almost every time I've brought my car here. If it's not one thing it's another. The last time, tires were supposed to be rotated and weren't, the car had not been washed as it was supposed to each time the car is serviced. We are done with this dealership. You don't want to trust a dealership who tells you that they can't tell if your fluid condition is good or bad in their inspection and everything has to be done according to mileage AND service record in their shop (despite you kept telling them you got the recommended service done in another dealership not long ago); you don't want to trust someone who ask you to change your transmission fluid for an automatic transmission every 30k (Honda recommended every 60-100k for automatic); you absolutely don't want to trust someone who you came in for 130k service while they recommended you 100k services and assumed you haven't done anything just because you didn't do them in their shop despite they can see you went to the other dealership every 4-5 months and you kept telling them you got the service done. Not trustworthy and I'm truly disappointed after going to them for 4-5 years. After a duplicated engine valve adjustment and serpentine belt replacement both under 20k, and a prematurely transmission fluid change at just 18k and almost an extremely premature spark plug replacement within 20k if not got called out in time by us digging through all our records, we are totally done with this dealership. While driving on I95 S I had an issue with my right front tire. It was losing air and I pulled off the exit that leads to the dealership hoping to find an air pump at the gas station across from Westbrook Honda. To my dismay, there was no air pump to be found. I pulled into the service area of the dealership and the Service Associate Seth took my car into the service bay and the end result was my tire was beyond filling with air and they put the spare tire on the car. I do not drive a Honda and I as I was a woman driving alone I cannot tell you how kind and considerate that Seth, the service technician and the service manager Glen were. I offered to pay for the services provided and they declined. This speak to the culture of service that appears to be pervasive in this dealership. It is so nice to write a review of this nature. First off I would like to say I believe in doing business with the local people. We bought a CRV at Westbrook and have been pleased with the car but not with the hideous service. I always like to give them the courtesy of leaving the car for the day so they can change the oil and rotate the tires of which I bought from them. The last two times at the end of the day they had not done the work. This is also after they did the Work the next day, they had not put washer fluid in. Who knows if they filled the other liquids you pay for. I also asked a year ago about trading it in for a pilot and they said they didn't have any cars right then. I totally understand as nobody had any cars. But wouldn't you think they would make a note and get ahold of us when cars might become available? Not them. My parents recently bought car and I've helped them throughout the whole process. Just gotta say, Emily is the only person there we've encountered that was not a complete jerk. Just got off the phone with the 'sales manager' Dan, who hung up the phone abruptly saying "I'm not going to apologize for something I'm not responsible for, alright!" Needles to say, he is unprofessional, rude and not very unhelpful. On Saturday night, my parents were driving their brand new Honda pilot trailsport 2023 when all of a sudden their tire blew out, out of nowhere. They called road side assistance which were very unhelpful and a stranger on the road ended up helping them. They felt strongly about this because out of the 6 cars they purchased brand new throughout their lifetime, they've never had an issue with a tire randomly blowing out within less than a month of owning it. They felt super confused and unsafe, especially knowing that the car they purchased that was meant for off-roading and rugged terrain couldn't even get through a simple highway. I called to see what the procedure was and if there was any explanation as to why or how this could've happened. Dan rudely insisted it wasn't his fault and they have nothing to do with the tires. I told him I didn't like how he was speaking to me (very unprofessional with an aggressive and diminishing tone). And his only response was "you're not gonna get what you're looking for". I explained all I was "looking for" was at the very least an apology, for this Honda dealership that sold us a brand new car which included the tires, (a car doesn't drive without tires nor would you sell a car without tires). The tire randomly popped as they were driving on the highway(not a simple hit something air fizzles out, it was an immediate burst that would've caused an accident if my dad hadn't maneuvered as safely as he did). And, I wanted to know what the next part in the procedure is. And that's when he raised his voice and tone even more said a few words and hung up on me. So now I'm left confused and a little upset that my parents did business with this dealership and it's awful service. I saw the few bad reviews before going here thinking, maybe they just had bad luck. It's not bad luck, Dan was just not a pleasant person over the phone. But apparently, that's the sales manager! I've never had such a bad customer service experience especially from the manager. I guess my last resort now is to write a review to share my experience so potential future customers will be alerted of the kind of customer service they're getting themselves into. Also, be sure you're prepared to pay for all the warranties otherwise this dealership "won't be responsible" as Dan says. We went shopping for an SUV, found one we liked and were ready to buy if they would just take $900 off the price..Our sales person was fine. Unfortunately the management is shady. They charged $1000 "doc fee" which is high. They were not all negotiable on the price and we ended up walking. They also offered a value $1000 lower than Kelley Blue Book for our Honda accord trade-in so we went to another dealership in Wallingford (executive Honda) where we had a much lower dock fee, got fair value for a trade-in, and they were even willing to negotiate on the price. It was virtually the same car as the one in Westbrook for $3000 less! Sold! Unfortunately, if Westbrook continues to be stubborn with prices and shady they are going to turn away prospective customers. read more

Visited Westbrook Honda to take a look at options for a new vehicle for my brother. We were sent on recommendation from a friend who loved working with Manny in their own experience. We met with Manny and also worked with Leo, who were both absolutely wonderful and bent over backwards to help us out. They totally worked in our best interest and never pushed the skeezy car salesman angle that people always fear when entering a dealership. We were able to talk, test drive and work together to reach an agreement on our trade-in and purchase of a new vehicle. Vanessa helped us run our final numbers and such an extensive process of buying a new car was actually done quickly, efficiently and professionally. Today I came home with my new CRV and came here to leave a review. I was surprised about the negative reviews that were left. My experience was nothing but positive. Went in there on Wednesday and left with new car on Saturday. Could have been Friday but I couldn't get to dealership before it closed. They didn't have the color of car I wanted but found one for me. Leo Gallego was a professional and attentive salesman. After I spoke to Vanessa, and didn't purchase the extended warranties, I thanked her for not being mean. The last car purchase I made, from a dealership in East Hartford, the finance guy turned into a big d!ck when I didn't buy anything extra. Obviously haven't been in for service yet so I cannot comment on that. If I decide on buying another Honda in the future, this will be my first stop. Will recommend to everyone. Sales staff great, service department technicians ..... well .... Careless or incompetent! Have been buying Honda's since 1983 most from Westbrook. In December brought in my 2021 CRV to Westbrook for it's first oil change, completed. When I got home I double checked the oil level. (As I have been doing on all my vehicles for years). Noticed the level was more than 1 inch above the full mark. I contacted service left a message for the service manager about issue and waited .... And waited for a response. Gave up waiting. Dealership is 30 plus miles from my home. Rather than driving back and wasting ~ 3 hours going back to dealership I decided to siphon extra oil out myself. Two hours later I had siphoned over 1 quart of oil above the top fill mark! Still No call back. That night I received a service survey email. I took pictures of the bottles of excess oil and emalied a detailed letter to Westbrook. About 2 days later,December 10, I received a call from the service manager apologizing. No explanation of how it could happen. He told me that he had a meeting with all of his technicians and assured me it would never happen again. He offered 2 free oil changes for my inconvenience. Later I found out the the CRV with a different engine has a oil capacity ~ 1 quart greater than my engine, coincidence)? I accepted his apology and moved on. Last week I brought in my 2015 Accord for a oil change. (BTW the price has gone from 20 bucks to 50 bucks since December, talk about Covid inflation)? I spefically asked the advisor to make sure that the oil was not overfilled and that the technician wipe off any old oil drips on the vehicle crossmembers. One hour later the vehicle was ready. Before I paid I asked my advisor if the technician double checked the oil level and he said it's all set. When I got home and checked the oil level it was about 1/2 above the max fill mark. Once again I spent about a hour and siphoned out ~ 16 ounces of excess oil above the max fill mark. I again received a service survey and promptly responded with my dissatisfaction. As of this writing no phone call or email response!! Question is ... did he forget to change my filter or what?? How can I trust them? Since 1983 I purchased 8 new Honda been checking and changing oil in the same bay all that time,never a issue before! And just to clarify the garage bay is level and per the owners manual oil was warm, car parked, engine off and waited a minute or so to get accurate measuremen. Dipstick has two holes near the botto, lower hole is lower level, upper hole is high level. Not rocket science. If you can't trust them to do a simple task like change the oil and filter, how can you trust them to do something complicated like a cooling system or tranny fluid change or god forbid a timing belt change!!! I spent 55 bucks, wasted almost 3 hours and another 9 bucks on gas .. for a job that any 15 year old could complete in his backyard. Schaller Honda and Manchester Honda are closer to me, next time I need service or a new vehicle, I know where to go. In closing it appears that the vast majority of "BAD" reviews are focused at the Service Department .... Obviously I'm not the only one with issues ...Hope that the General Manager pays attention!! read more

If you are going to buy a car here, or at any car dealership, then you need to understand the rhetorical appeals. They are ethos, pathos, and logos. You can watch YouTube videos on this to help you practice. Ethos - appeal to trustworthiness and/or authority - e.g. "9 out of 10 dentists recommend Crest toothpaste." Logos - appeal to logic - e.g. "5 times the lash length!" if you use this mascara. If it's 5x longer, that's 5x better, right? Pathos - appeal to emotion - intentionally trying to make you feel a certain emotion, like fear, anger, etc., so that you can be manipulated - e.g. "They're bringing their criminals." It's important to note that just because something is a rhetorical appeal does not inherently mean that it's false. Sometimes it is, sometimes it is not. You need to determine whether it's true and whether that fact matters to you. It was really fascinating to me watching Vanessa, the financial lady, go through these tactics at Westbrook Honda. In my mind, I was labeling each one. It was kind of comical. "The seats are white. What if your kids spill a milkshake? This Simonize package will cover that for you!" (combination: appeal to emotion & logic... Truthful, but how many people will actually bother going through the hassle of bringing their car in, and how many people wouldn't put down a seat cover if they had small kids in a car with white seats? A seat cover is a lot cheaper than Simonize.) "Adding on ___ is just an extra $5 per month. That's less than two coffees." (logic -- but faulty. It assumes that you will make the minimum payment every month for the full extent of the loan -- which I don't recommend!! You should always try to pay extra, even if it's just $5. You will save yourself on interest!) What wasn't comical was when, after her spiel, she asked us if we wanted to do the add-ons, and my husband said yes. (O____O) I was utterly flabbergasted. And I stayed silent. (Big mistake.) Needless to say, our experience car shopping was a big lesson for our marriage. There was an ensuing conversation ("What the hell happened back there? How did you fall for that?"). It turned out that my husband thought I wanted those things, which was why I stayed silent, so he did it even though he thought it was bogus. He said he loved me so much that he didn't care if it cost us extra. Romantic, isn't it? But so foolish! Argh! Of course, Vanessa didn't help in this process. She didn't offer to step out of the room so we could discuss or ask if we wanted to step out, etc. Vanessa also conveniently didn't invite our relative into the room with us... and he probably would have spoke up on our behalf. I have a sense that Vanessa is very, very good at manipulating social interactions. But at the end of the day, the fault is on me for not speaking up. A couple of other noteworthy things: When you enter her office, you will most likely see a coffee mug on its side with "coffee" on the desk. You will immediately be like, "Oh my goodness! Your coffee!" That's because you're a nice person. She will smirk as you realize that it's a gag. Interestingly, I've since discovered this is used at many, many car dealerships. It appears to be a psychological form of oneupmanship to put you at a disadvantage. Also, buying our car was a six-hour affair. They literally sent us away for several hours while they "did the paperwork." That was before we met with Vanessa. I've since learned that this is a common tactic. It wears you down physically, emotionally, and mentally. When you finally sit down to do the numbers, you want the process to be over with and you're tired, so you're more likely to make poor financial choices. My low rating is largely based on these manipulative tactics, which are kind of cruel and unethical if you think about it (and largely common in our consumerist nation). This was a bad experience for me as a whole. I wouldn't buy a car at this dealership again. I'm going to go out of my way to avoid dealerships and to do private sales in the future. If I had to go again, and if you have to go for financial reasons, then I recommend this: 1. Familiarize yourself with the add-ons in advance. Call. Visit. Whatever. Find out about them. Discuss them at home with your spouse/partner/relative. 2. Familiarize yourself with the rhetorical appeals in advance. 3. When you arrive and choose a car, tell them outright your time limit. "I am only doing this sale if we can complete it within two hours." And stick to that. Seriously. I am never again in my life giving six hours of my day to a skeezy car dealership. 4. Be prepared, if necessary, to ask the financial person to step out of the office, or excuse yourself, if you need to discuss anything. Do not let them use the awkwardness of the situation to their advantage. 5. Always, ALWAYS read all of what you are signing. We DID do this part. We always do this. Further, he was incredibly rude and unprofessional to my daughter. It took them three days beyond the date they promised to have our car ready for the work to be completed. Do NOT bring your car here to be serviced. Brought my Civic here for a simple oil change and tire rotation. Several days later I smell a "gasoline" smell when the A/C is on. I pop the hood and realize that they never put the oil fill cap back on and oil was all over the engine. I call up to complain to the service manager who was unavailable. Finally talk to someone in service and tell them what happened and that I'm having the car towed over and that they need to steam clean the engine, perform another oil change and replace the serpentine belt. Go back the next day and before I go into the service center, I pop the hood on the car and check things out. Engine had been cleaned, oil cap was replaced. Then I checked the oil - could not get any reading at all on the dipstick. It also looked doubtful that they replaced the belt as well (because that costs them money). Bring this to the service manager's attention and he calls out his "mechanic" that worked on the car. He checks the oil and confirms that yes, it is "low" and asks for the key so he can bring it in and add oil. I told him no, that he's not touching the car again and I'm taking it home. Bought an oil filter at the parts counter (at least they are very nice there) and a jug of oil at Wal Mart and changed the oil myself the way it should have been done. Didn't bother asking for a refund because most of the original charges were for the tire rotation. Can't imagine screwing up something as simple as an oil change once, but twice? And hoping that the customer doesn't notice that you didn't at least add oil? I take this car to the dealership to avoid this very thing from the quick lube places. Apparently WH gets these rejects too. They should consider themselves fortunate that severe engine damage did not occur to this car. If they can't even change oil right, what else are they doing to people's cars? read more

It's too bad he overshadows the other pleasant sales people that work there. After catching them in a lie in order to persuade us to purchase extended warranties, forcing us to drive 100 miles due to their registration processing mistake, and refusing to honor their IOU for a 2nd remote on a technicality, I thought they would offer us some kind of compensation. I had nothing but issues at Westbrook Honda and would 100% stand by telling other fellow customers to go elsewhere for their Honda needs (Cardinal Honda for example takes GREAT care of their customers and their customers safety). Yesterday I went into Westbrook Honda for my appointment for an airbag safety recall on my civic, not even 5 minutes after dropping my car off I get a call that they cannot fix the issue even though their company sent out the recall and I just wanted answers of "why can't you do this fix for my safety" *remind you when I dropped my car off the mechanic said bluntly to myself "it's a good thing you're bringing your car in, this is very unsafe for you to be driving this way". All said and done and nothing but issues and getting phone calls hung up on you by (Dave general service manager at Honda in Westbrook) a few phone calls to Honda Corporation ; I was told to leave the dealership from the General Manager Dave at WESTBROOK HONDA who consistently dodged my concerns and questions and overall feeling unsafe from not only the recall on my car but by the staff at Westbrook who represent this company. Dave with the amazing explanation of why he cannot complete this safety issue was because "he just doesn't want to". So I asked for the contact information for the man above him and he told me I could find the number online but didn't add in the fact that man above him has been deceased for over a year. My car is my reliability to work in the healthcare industry. I cannot stay home. I am an essential worker taking care of the sick and well in this crazy time we are now living in. Very weird experience. Should've read the reviews first. Very unprofessional and continue to bombard me with e-mails, even after explaining over and over why I won't buy from them. Went to Westbrook Honda on New Year's Eve day and discovered that car salesmen, managers and finance managers are not so bad after all. We had a great group of people help us buy our beautiful, new HR-V. Leonardo was very professional yet still very cool, and of course we love his name. Monty continued to ask if we were being treated well, and Dan was probably the most organized person we have met in a long time. The way he handled paperwork was truly inspiring. Leonardo explained everything to us we needed to know and made our experience such a pleasure.
