An interesting place. You make reservations through one of the Internet booking sites, such as Hotels.com or Booking.com, or you can also book with them through Airbnb. You never actually talk to somebody, they communicate via either text message or email. It's an old 1940s Motor court that has been totally renovated. They texted me the code of my security lock to get into the room. Overall, the room was small, but nice. Everything was very clean, including the bathroom. The shower does take a little bit of time for the hot water to kick in, but it was plenty warm. The room had both a microwave and a fridge. The only light in the room is provided by two lamps, one next to each bed, but they do provide enough light. My TV did not have a remote. I didn't try to text them about the remote, as I had two iPads, and I was fine. The Wi-Fi is fast enough to stream video. There was a plug with several USB ports, so that I could charge my gear. In the morning, checkout was 10 AM, I texted them for an 11 AM check out, and they texted back immediately saying no problem at all. As for food, Walker burger is just down the highway to the north, and the motel is right across the street from the Mountain View barbecue. The barbecue is cash only, but they do have an ATM. Both places have excellent food. The Walker Country Store, just a little bit farther to the north, has gas, groceries, and a small deli. There were a few minor things. The thermostat does not work, so heat is provided by a small electric radiator, but the only place you can plug it in is in one corner of the room. I slept in the bed right next to the radiator, so I stayed warm. The bed was a little bit firm for my personal taste, but overall I slept well. Also, there is no desk or table to either eat at, or work on a laptop if you need to. Overall, it was a nice stay. I would stay here again. Thank you. read more

Very cute place. We had a small issue with the water that was beyond their control but they made it right.

We stayed in room 1. It is very quiet and looks nice inside. The bathroom was nice, and the room had a small kitchen, which was handy. However, the bed was broken. The room was stuffy, and there was no way to open the windows. The EU type AC runs just a fan, and another one in the window is too loud to keep running all night. It's a strange place. Arrived after making a reservation online (the only way). Received an email saying they will send our door code in 2-3 days. . Upon arrival there was a young girl (10-11 yrs) hanging around and approached me. Her mom was gone but would be back soon. I found my room and she gave me the code to enter. She was actually very helpful. My room (3) was very small with a bed and side tables and the bathroom. There are no toiletries, no ice. It was clean. This hotel was convenient. It was in the town of Walker. It was right off the road. It was very nice and quaint and looked very updated which we liked. It was a twin size in a full-size bunk bed and a queen size bed so all three of us and the dog were able to stay here comfortably. I liked everything about this very cool motel located in Walker. It's a 40s-style cozy place. The beds are comfortable, they have good wifi, and there are plenty of USB charging ports. There are some units with a tiny kitchenette for meal prepping. Cutting board, utensils, cups, dishes, very basic seasonings (salt, pepper, Old Bay),and a coffee maker are included. This is a surprisingly nice motel with excellent check-in and check-out. Everything was well instructed in the emails (which were like pouring every minute until we checked out). The room is very cosy and warm despite cold outside. There was a small heater that is more than sufficient in Oct. The beds are great and the bath is super nice for the price. The outside patio is a nice convenience to have a good breakfast or dinner (which you have to source from neighboring store). The only concern is the highway noise and the bright head lights which will shine on the windows. There seems to be some privacy plants next to the windows, but those have wilted out or died off. The hotel is located in the town of Walker but Walker and Coleville share a zip code. I'm rating this as a visitor as I never stayed the night here. Some friends of our stayed here at the last family gathering and they liked it. Walker Days was going on in October when we visited there and the hotel had some kind of live music and cookout and the people there seemed friendly when we came to visit. This is more of a motel than a hotel but Yelp has no motel category. The room I saw inside was tiny but clean. It held two double beds, a TV, and a small bathroom. It got the job done. It also had a small 2-seat patio set outside which was a nice touch. Parking is immediately in front of your room in the circular lot. The hotel is close to the general store and gas station in Walker immediately off 395 in the Eastern Sierras. If you're looking for a clean place to lay your head for the night I'd recommend them over the Tocayo down the road. That place gave me the creeps when we went there first. It felt very Bates Motel-ish. read more

I wanted the opportunity to put my review in "context" where I initially rated it a 4-Star. My basis was too general, which didn't truly grade this establishment. In a general sense, this isn't the Hyatt, nor does it try to be. So in context, the West Walker Motel is a place I would recommend. Great customer service. Chris was very helpful, even when I told her that I may arrive late in the evening. The pricing is comparable to other establishments in the area. It's also at toward the end of the town, which was a plus for me. Everything is walk-able in the entire town. Everything is clean and comfortable. Depending on your service provider, wi-fi was appreciated to keep in communications (remote/rural area). There are plenty of amenities nearby, including food and a general store. There is a gas station on the other side of town, but I'd recommend filling up as it gets pricey for gas in remote locations such as this. This establishment doesn't pretend to be something it's not, in my opinion. But what it is, they do well. I would recommend. read more

Stayed here on the way to Reno. The owners were very pleasant on the phone when I called to inquire about rooms and were equally nice upon arrival. That's always a good sign! The rooms are a bit small but clean with new TVs with direct tv to include HBO. The AC works great and the bed was very comfortable. You will hear the cars driving by on 395 but as it gets later they become nonexistent. You may want ear plugs if you are napping during the day. This hotel is a great option just 20 minutes outside of Bridgeport and a perfect spot for hikers needing a break. The BBQ place across the street is ok... Not great but not bad. read more

Would never stay here even if you paid me. Our car overheated and we had to immediately pull off the highway. This motel was the first thing off the road with shade so that we could get out two young children, one only a year old out of the heat while we quickly fixed the problem. The owner came over in her car asking us what we thought we were doing and yelling about how it's private property and saying how she didn't care that we needed to keep the kids out of the sun and heat. My husband brought me here last year for my birthday getaway in October. All the mountain passes are beautiful this time of year. He had already stayed here once for a little rest and relaxation trip. So, we returned again just last week and will make it a yearly birthday trip for me. We stay in room 1 which actually looks like a separate cabin and has a kitchenette. The place has the Route 66 motel feel as another reviewer stated. It is charming, clean and the sister owners are friendly, accommodating and charming as well! Walker itself has some gift/antique shops, a coffee shop, Walker Burger (pick up a Bodie Birdhouse while you are there), a BBQ restaurant across the street and a small market. It is a wonderful place to stay as you travel the 395 highway to explore the lakes, mountains and mountain towns. read more

I went there years ago when the old owners owned it. They used to have a nice swimming pool, not sure if they still do. Beautiful skies in this area. Sounds silly, but it's true. Clean rooms. Good parking. Near Walker Burger and thatrestauarant across the street with the animals out back. Good fishing area. Kind of redneckish fo rmy tastes, but not too bad. The Motel had good prices and clean rooms and I have some good childhood memories from the place. read more

The West Walker Motel is amazing. Prices are very very good and the owners are always friendly. An excellent place to stay if you are riding the Sierra passes on motorcycles. The owners provided us with some beer upon our arrival and towels in the morning to dry off our bikes. Also as a perk, it is across the street from the Mountain View BBQ, meaning food and sleep are all walking distance after a long ride over a fantastic mountain pass of your choosing. read more

I stayed here twice. It changed owners last year. Two nice women from the Bay Area took it over and fixed it up. The rooms are clean and the beds are nice. The showers are still quite small and rustic. The best part is that, as you can see from one of the pictures, the local BBQ restaurant is right across the street. I had dinner there twice and it was decent. Just up the road is Walker Burger, a good place for lunch. Of course Monitor Pass is just up the way and it is a great road. This review is meant to help others decide on actually staying at this motel not taking digs at the management. The total experience of staying at the west walker motel was a rather less than pleasant experience. The first notable exception was an updated room & bathroom, with microwave , coffee maker, 32" flatscreen, bunk beds and a queen mattress and a rather huge shower. Although staying in the room during winter season will be a chilly one without a heater, Which was the case when management bought the wrong gas heater. Which in fact could be a fire hazard, management bought a space heater that helped a little bit, not much. When my family stayed here the first couple of nights the plumbing backed up through our shower, management left a phone number for emergency Although nobody answered the phone. We finally got a hold of Management in person, they fixed the problem after the second time of plumbing backing up. In the end of writing this review I hope this help a little bit for future people looking to stay here. !!! A little note in mind is make sure to look a the pillows they provide because mine had yellow stains on them read more

Just needed to get out of town and not spend a lot! I found this online and remembered it being recommended by a fisherman on the West Walker river. It didn't hurt that it was right across the street from my favorite BBQ place in the area. I did worry about hearing the thundering herd of Memorial Day drivers racing down 395 and seeing headlights piercing my bedroom. What we found was a clean, quiet, comfortable place to spend a couple of nights checking out the rivers, lakes and towns in the area. For a little roadside Motel in the Sierra. I found this quaint . . Tiny room but very Clean. Beds were comfortable . The hostess was as pleasant as can be. The grounds were nicely done and I like the little outside patio set in front of the room .
