Motel money spent wisely. At least for my purposes. I got a basic room at this old school motel, and basic is what I got. But I was surprised at the level of basic. There was a bed, of course, but it wasn't one of those lumpy speed bump mattresses. It was actually very comfortable. I slept quite well during my two night stay. The TV mounted on the wall was small, but it had Directv. I have that at home, so I was familiar with what buttons to push. Only issue was that you couldn't have the door open when watching, as it covered half the TV. I guess that's OK. I should only be watching half as much TV anyway. My room, #22, was very clean. The toilet was sanitized for my protection. The paper seal on the seat assured me of that. I found the seal after having a few beers. I guess that's what it means when you "have to break the seal"! The rest of the room was just fine. The air conditioner worked and it didn't make much noise. I did have an issue with the blinds. For the life of me, I couldn't get the last panel to close properly. It left a space wide enough for stray eyes to look in. A mirror reflected the sight line onto the bed. Which wouldn't be all that bad, but, well, let's just say that because of the way I sleep, it wouldn't be a pretty sight. I hung a towel to mind the gap. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Quick Tip: Every room has magnetic screens to keep our flying friends out. However, those little buggers are fast and will follow you in. I recently stayed at this motel for three nights. I decided on this property because of the price and location. I was checked in by a very friendly young lady (wish I got her name) who explained all the particulars about my stay. The next day I had a question and spoke to a nice older gentleman, he too was very helpful and friendly. The room was basic, but that's all I needed. It was clean, tidy and the water pressure in the shower was great. An added bonus was free ice to its customers, that was nice. I would definitely recommend Redwood and I'll stay here again if I'm in the area and in need of a place to stay. All in all a great experience. read more

A big thanks to Nicole and Mary Ellen. After an unexpected tire issue, we chose the Redwood Inn as they allow pets. Nicole checked us in, was helpful and kind and did whatever she could to help. The room was clean and comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. As we had to replace our tire with the spare in the Redwood parking lot, Mary Ellen came through, even giving us a large trash bag so we could get the damaged tire in the car without making a mess. These folks were accommodating and helpful and the room was exactly what we needed. I would highly recommend giving them your business! read more

I really enjoyed my one-night stay here. Completely satisfactory for the price. ROOM: Small but clean and comfortable. Microwave, fridge, coffeemaker. Comfortable bed. The bathroom did not have a sink but the little kitchenette did. This is actually preferable so you don't have to wait for the bathroom to be unoccupied to wash your hands or clean. PARKING: Easy parking in a relatively large lot. LOCATION: Located on Main Street in Bridgeport (not sure if there's any more to Bridgeport than that). A few eateries down the street (check hours as places close early around here). A coffee shop nearby. There's also a gas station/convenience store right next to the motel. Make sure you stop at the beautiful (and historic) Mono County Courthouse just down the street. Then walk behind it and check out the creepy old jail building (free/open to explore). Both are definitely worth the stop! Also, the motel is about a 30-minute drive from Bodie State Historic Park, which was our reason for staying here (and a must to visit, if you haven't already). SERVICE: Really friendly! Front desk staff (I want to say the name was Nicole but I'm not 100% sure) was very nice and helpful. There was also complimentary juice and pastries offered to guests as breakfast. Easy express check-out option where you can leave your keys in a drop box. Really comfortable stay. These people do not belong in the motel business. They say they are pet friendly. But pets are not allowed to be in room unattended, not even for the guest to eat dinner. They state that you have to take the pet with you. How many restaurants allow pets? None in Bridgeport. So they expect me to leave a 4000.00 French Bulldog in my car in 100 degree plus heat. I tried to reason with them to no avail, so cancelled reservation and booked with another property. So please check that policy if you are traveling with a pet. Save your time and money. read more

We stayed a night here because of the price. It's was very expensive. It was about $180 a night. It should have been more like the $70 range. 1-Our bed was stained, 2-the shower had mold in it by the drain. 3-Our front door wasn't sealed, (light and air can be seen and felt from the bottom and top, sides. ) 4- our bathroom door didn't close. 5-our room had a foul smell For the price we paid it was just absolutely disappointing.. The 2 star rating was because while it wasn't a pleasant experience. EVERYTHING worked. Like the fridge, microwave ext. so there's that. We visit and LOVE Bridgeport. We come at least 2-3 times a year. So it's safe to say we are familiar with the age of the buildings and the surrounding area. Recently stayed 3 nights In all fairness the motel is adequate a bit in need of updating but comfortable. My complaint is the elderly office host. She is unfriendly, rude, mean & nasty. Never came across anyone so off the rails with customers. When we arrived pulling a small ATV trailer she literally accosted us asking what we were planning to do with that junk don't even think about parking it here. (It's a trailer with 3 ATV) I said just wanted to confirm our reservations and leave for the afternoon. It was 11:00 AM she refused to even help said to come back at 3. We heard similar complaints from other people staying there as well. I want to be clear Last year we stayed there greeted by a young lady who was the host an absolutely friendly delight but this old nutcase is costing the motel repeat business. I would recommend the walker inn, Ruby motel , Bridgeport inn, Virginia inn but never the Redwood again. read more

Everything I needed! I was on a solo road trip and had planned to stay in Mono Lake area for three days and two nights. Redwood Motel was one of the few with vacancy for the dates I needed. I arrived in late afternoon and the check in process took me no more than 5 minutes. The young lady at the office was very professional and efficient. The motel is on your right hand side as you are going south on hwy 395 and is located right after the Shell Gas station on the other side of Twin Lakes Road. The rooms are lined up in U shape around the yard where the parking spots are. You are likely to find a spot near your room if not in front of it. The rooms are clean and spacey. There is a coffee maker and refrigerator in each room. The bathrooms are clean and in good shape. I was happy to find out the shower in my room was in great shape as I decided to wash off the dust from my long hike. Very comfortable place to spend a few nights close to Mono Lake. read more

We never stayed here. I was planning on staying here with my family for one night. We went through booking.com, but should have dug around on the website first. My mistake. The biggest issue is whoever is in charge of the communication. They were very rude. The other issue is lack of clear information on the booking.com site. Pictures don't clearly show the accomodations until you get to the last few pictures out of 57. I just wish they were more clear on the booking page on what we were reserving. Some places have theme names for their rooms so maybe a clearly visible disclosure that this room is not a motel room before the actual booking is completed would have saved them and me valuable time and limited the frustration we both clearly felt for each other. The place looks neat, but we chose not to stay at this location as we did not feel welcome. read more

When I plan a climbing trip out of a new town, I have to pick a place without too much input. I read the reviews that are out there and do my best. This humble property served as a good base for the planned trip in the Sierras. The front office is not open all day so I had to kill some time until they opened at 3 pm. And they were very flexible when I needed to change my booking due to some weather blew through. The room was on the older side but with a comfortable bed. Surfaces were a bit worn. Everything in the bathroom worked. In all, a good little spot fit for purpose. read more

I like this place. It's small, cozy, and has great rates. But there are two things that need improvement: 1. Pillows: they are way too thin. Please, either give double per side, or get thicker pillows. 2. Wifi is not the best. I mean, it works, but you often get 3 bars instead of 4. I recommend this place! read more

There are only a handful of Motel/Inn/B&B's in town. I haven't stayed in any of them except Redwood so I can't offer a comparison to the others, but what I can say is that while this spot isn't a luxury property, it does offer a lot of roadside motel charm. To boot, it's clean, comfy (the room had a microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker) and has a very nice owner on property complete with a poodle to greet you when you check in. We were able to call the afternoon of when we stayed to secure a room (we really didn't have plans of where we would end up when we left the house) for $79. I'm not sure if I'll ever stay in Bridgeport again, but if I do, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

WARNING! Do not stay here. We had left in the morning but had not checked out with the intention of coming back to pick up what we had left in the room.  Upon our return, we found our room cleaned out and our food thrown out before the stated check out time.  The owner said, "There's no such thing as check out." Even though I still had the keys, he argued that there is no way of knowing whether we had already checked out or not.  The owner later found our food in the trash, dug it out, and tried to give it back to me. That is totally foul and the way he handled the situation was really unprofessional, rude, and unsanitary. This place honestly don't even deserve the one star. We come to Bridgeport often and if every other place wasn't sold out, we wouldnt have stayed here. I would have honeslty just gone camping than stay here. read more

The Redwood Motel is your basic motel. It was clean and in good repair. Refrigerator coffee pot and microwave in the room which was perfect. The walls are pretty thin, as they are in a lot of older buildings, so you might want to bring a pair of earplugs for sleeping. They are doing completely contactless check in during Covid. The staff/cleaning staff were wearing and 95 masks. It could be because this is the end of the season but this place was nothing special but wholly adequate. read more

I've stayed here twice after some cold outings in the Eastern Sierra. It's fair-priced and the rooms are well-maintained. No random nonsense. I think the prices have even stayed the same since 2017 when I first checked in. The guy at the counter who I assume was the owner was laid-back and recommended restaurants to me and to hurry to them before they closed A bunch of kitschy decorations function to lure people in - hey, it may have worked on me. The place is old and the rooms are a bit on the small side but it's a nice friendly place. Lots of very hot water seems like at times they run out of cold water tho! Holy cow I was taking a shower and had it just right! You know not to hot not too cold. Well I got wet and shut off the shower and soaped up (we are in a drought here in California ya know) but I saw where the handle was and put it right back to that spot and I think that some how lava was hooked into the shower it wasn't just a bit to get to lava it was Instant! But other than that I really did enjoy the place! Now if you have your fishing gear with you but don't have a way to get out to the lake (you can rent fishing stuff from kens sporting goods) but for a fee a really nice guy Lou Hill will take you to the lakes and pick you up! read more

Any stay which begins with the owner of the place threatening the potential guest, yelling, cursing and and in general crazy/drunk/stoned old man behavior is someplace I won't give my business. Caught most of it on my cell phone cam. I told you I was filming you :-) Short story: I made a reservation two weeks prior, told the woman on the phone I would be towing a small trailer with dirtbikes on it, asked if there would be a secure place to park, was told it wouldn't be a problem. Arrived at the Motel, had to drive in the back because the front entrance was covered in Police tape due to a recent accident. Office was locked-up tight. Talked to a Maid who told me the only one there was the owner who she seemed apprehensive to get for me. I soon found-out why. A minute later this old man literally burst-out of a door on the side of the office and begins by telling me to "Get that Fing trailer out of his lot!" Hi, nice to see you too, this is going to go well. This man then proceeded to yell at me that no one on his staff had ever told me they allowed trailer parking, despite the fact we were in-fact standing in-front of two RV trailers which have been parked in their lot for a long time. Sort of gives the place that run-down trailer park vibe. I told him nowhere on my confirmation did it say trailers were prohibited from parking, nor were there any signs anywhere in their. That's when he got in my face and tried to push me up against my truck. Maybe if he'd been sober he would have been successful. As I was leaving he was screaming (literally, it was scary) that he could fill his Hotel every night, he didn't need *#!$ like me. Of course when I walked-by the place later that night three cars were in his lot. Yeah. So my friends and I drove 100' down the road, walked-in to the next Motel. Told them we had a small trailer with us, they said no problem, even let us park it and my truck next to office so someone could keep an eye on it while we rode our bikes to Bodie. When we mentioned the problems we'd had down the street we were told that happens all the time. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

When we booked the lady was really nice over the phone. When we arrived the man at the front desk was very polite and helpful. They have a nice large ice machine with an over sized scoop, and encourage you to take as much as you need. They keep towels available to take to the local hot springs or lakes. read more

Last night I encountered bed bugs at the Redwood Motel, room 17. I discovered the bugs after 11:00 pm so the office was closed and I couldn't change rooms. At 8:30 am, after a sleepless night spent in the desk chair, I informed the owner, Ed, that my room had bed bugs and showed him one I had trapped in a cup. He proceeded to ask me why I didn't just sleep on the floor in my sleeping bag and told me that I should be used to bugs since I'm hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (the chief difference being I don't pay $75/nt to sleep on the ground with bugs). He never offered a word of apology or regret for what had happened. I was stunned by his behavior toward me and also by how entirely he dismissed the importance of one of his guests encountering bed bugs. You may wish to keep this in mind if staying the night in town. There are several other comparable options in Bridgeport. Everything else about this town was great. Ed did refund me the cost of the room and was clearly upset about doing so, though I never asked for a refund or discount. From the moment I mentioned that I had bed bugs he turned extremely hostile and combative. First (and hopefully last) treatment of any serious hostility that I have encountered on the trail. read more

This is a great little motel and only, after tax, 94/night. I think that was the AAA rate but not positive. The town of Bridgeport, CA (not to be confused with the CT city 20 minutes from New Haven parodied on South Park: think New Haven minus the boutiques, theater and Yale) has a population just under 1000. There is one main drag dotted with an old courthouse and little motels with charming, kitschy signage. It's quite pretty. And after driving through some of the ugliest, godforsaken places I've ever been in my life--China Lake, Inyokern, and pretty much everything on the 395 and Route 14 from Bishop to the first evidence of civilization in Lancaster/Palmdale), I am even more enthusiastic about this quaint little town about 45 minutes from Yosemite's East Entrance. As with most very small towns, everyone seems to know everyone. Whether you walk into the general store, Hays Diner (see separate review), or the Sportsman's Lounge, people are friendly and chatty. As a good friend off and on FB noted, the decor of rooms at the Redwood Motel is something out of motel Central Casting. The wallpaper has borders and there are old lamps with a touch-tone phone! It's all pastel, and the Kleenex is tied in an elaborate bow. Cute! The office has the same model of Sharp fax machine I bought on QVC in 1998 (one of two things I have ever bought on either QVC or HSN). I got a picture because that struck me as too bizarre a coincidence not to capture photographically. The layout is typical of motels you pass on road trips through small towns. I'm not an architect so i don't know the name, but it's essentially a one-story horseshoe or square with an office and courtyard. The room is *immaculate* and there is real pressure in the shower. My bath was steaming hot and it filled in far less time than many more upscale hotels which have converted to low-flow. I don't oppose that: the drought in CA is serious and you can see how much in the Sierras is dried up. But I can't deny that I hate shower heads which make you feel like someone is peeing on your head. I have lush, thick, long hair and standing there for 15 minutes to rinse out conditioner is annoying. The blinds keep the light out admirably, but I awoke before sunrise anyway. And the bed is more than decent. I slept soundly. The motel allows dogs, or at least turns the other way. I got pit bull kisses from another guest's 3-year-old, Harley. Christy at the front desk is friendly and efficient. She lent me a much-needed beer opener for the last of my Lagunitas from the Yosemite Lodge store. I didn't use the coffee machine but sure that it was functional. The a/c is hilariously loud (I had to take a video), but it works. This is important because the temperature swings some 50 degrees within a single day in the Eastern Sierras. The high was in the mid-70s but felt warmer. When I arose before 6AM, there was frost/ice on the hood of my car. I didn't bring gloves so I couldn't do the hour or so walk I had planned before a long drive back to Southern California. The low was 30 and the projected high on the late September day we drove back was 75! Bars close between 9PM and 10PM and one bar observes the "3 person rule": if fewer than three are seated at the bar, they close but not before 9PM. For a town with a single main drag, there are quite a few bars and food options. Bridgeport Lake (now dried up) is 2 miles if the sign is right. Fishing is big here. To wit: Hays Diner opens at 6 during "fishin' season" and 7 during "freezin' season." I took a walk up Aurora Lane by the cemetery which is worth seeing. I personally think burial is silly and a waste of money. But that's because my frame of reference includes places where the average house costs 900K. Eating up prime real estate--places without affordable housing or space to build except up--to put an overpriced wooden box with a corpse is to me the height of irrationality. But in the middle of farmland or desert, where land is neither scarce nor expensive, the concept of a cemetery doesn't strike me as nearly as dumb. Some graves are 150 years old and some of the headstones were quite moving. You see many references to John Muir Yosemite and surrounding areas and one headstone quoted one of his many beautiful sayings. I walked at sunset and even an ugly place--but not Inyokern (which falsely advertises itself "Sunshine Capital of the World," which I assure you is false as it's not the capital of anything)--will be nice as nightfall. But Bridgeport is pleasant and even nicer at sunset. It's picturesque in a slightly barren sort of way. And compared to the scenic horror I drove through after leaving Bishop, it's Yosemite Falls. The Eastern Sierras are beautiful but you have a lot of awfulness to traverse before you get to anything either civilized or pretty. read more

The owner was rude during the check in and refused to remove taxes from my bill( I am excused from paying taxes in the US). He knew that there is no any vacant room in the whole city and said that if I am not happy I can find another hotel to stay. The room was below average, some smell was present. read more

I've stayed at the Redwood Motel many times over the years. Most years, I'm with a group of photographers I conduct to a variety of locations on the east side of the Sierras. The motel is a good base of operations. The motel isn't fancy. It's clean and comfortable, though, and the price is very reasonable. With a variety of bric-a-brac on the motel grounds, the place exudes a quaint charm not found at any other accommodations in town. The one story only motel units are on a courtyard, so parking is in front of your door, or only yards away. T.V? Check. Phone? Check. Internet access? Check. Easy parking? Yes. Friendly staff? Yes. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bridgeport. read more

BEWARE!!! The Hotels.com website will tell you that you are buying a Motel room, but when you arrive you will find out you get a TRAVEL TRAILER in the parking lot. We didn't stay in it, but it looked dark, dirty, uninviting, and potentially bug ridden. The weird owner with the dog could have rented it to someone who wanted it since every hotel within 30 miles was booked solid that night. Instead, he decided to charge us for a trailer we didn't order or want. We are currently disputing the charge. MAKE a SCREENSHOT of your Hotels.com web page. Terrifyingly bad experience!! I stayed her yesterday and day before and had worst experience ever. The manager walked into our motel room at midnight not once but twice without knocking and flicked on the lights scaring my family, demanding we had to pay. We had gotten in late the night before and stopped by in the day to check in. Later that same day, stopped in again and told him our room # and he gave us bizarre look but didn't ask us to pay. Like most places he had our credit card and thought we paid at end of stay. I Do not recommend this place!! read more

Wanted to stay but owner threatened us and told us we could not park in the lot. He used fowl language and said he wont return our fee even though he was not allowing us to stay. I was in town for the 4th of July (ps prices go up steeply everywhere in B-port that weekend but it is SO worth it) and a Forest Service archeology project and the Redwood (as well as Ed the owner and Christy? the day manager) was fantastic --- clean, quiet, good-functioning appliances (caffe, micro, fridge) in the room, generous access to the ice machine, juice and sweetrolls in the AM, nice sitting chairs and shade area/trellis outside, wonderful cleaning service from Magda....I really liked this motel and hope to stay there repeatedly for years to come. read more

We had a really challenging time sleeping at this hotel due to the thin walls and neighbors with children yelling etc at around 6.15 am. Much to our surprise there is no way to contact the front desk front to ask for help in dealing with this from the room (calls to the main hotel # are unanswered).. We had to walk to the front office in pajamas and jacket to ask the management to deal with noise around 7.15 am (after trying to sleep and no phone response). The front office was closed and owner reluctant to answer the door even when he saw me standing there. I had to say loudly through the glass door we were having problems and only then did he open the door and told was too late in the morning to really do anything about it. So frustrating!! read more

Exhausted, and googled rooms in Bridgeport, found this little motel. It is cozy and pet friendly. bathroom too small. The atmosphere is great, the room is good. Double size bed really hard. I enjoyed the people who ran it, and the Swedish pastries and juice offered for breakfast. They give you that when you check in. Room clean and quiet. Still $85 for room Pet Fee/Walter $20 read more

When I parked at the office and said that I was here to check in the owner of the hotel ( who was working the desk ) said " not with that dog". He told me I had not booked a pet friendly room, which was a lie. I told him he was wrong and I had booked one with him directly over the phone !
