I've stayed here on nearly every trip I've made to Bridgeport and it's always felt like a second home. Big Meadow Lodge is owned by a truly lovely family who genuinely care about their guests. During one trip, a major winter storm hit and all the roads were closed. The owners were kind enough to let us stay several additional nights at no cost, which says everything about the kind of people they are. The cabins are especially amazing in the winter, quiet, cozy and surrounded by snow. It's the perfect place to unplug and enjoy the area. We stayed in the king room which was more like a small cabin as it was set apart from the rest. Perfect for two people and a small dog! Had everything you need, TV with tons of channels, microwave, frig, coffee maker, full bathroom and comfortable bed. Everything was very clean. There's BBQs for guest use conveniently located right outside your room, both charcoal and propane. Manager Jonathon was awesome as he provided a double burner hot plate for us (made some breakfast burritos in our room) before we headed out hiking for the day. We also loved using the communal fire pit each night of our stay. They have fire wood and lounge chairs to relax in and enjoy a warm fire and beautiful scenery. If you are looking for a quiet, pleasant place to get away from everything, here it is. I stayed here on a solo trip up 395 to a retreat. I wanted someplace quiet and inexpensive. Check. The cabins don't look like much from the outside, but mine was really nice and big! Given the description of "indoor camping" on their website I expected a more rustic room, but it was quite civilized, with a king-sized bed (I think), plenty of outlets for charging things (look in the nightstand drawer for a multiple-outlet thing - I didn't find it until I was ready to leave), a refrigerator, a coffee pot and an electric teapot for hot water. I forget if there was a microwave... The bathroom was small, but perfectly adequate. There was a decent-sized table with two chairs in the room. Outdoors there were picnic tables and fire rings. I said hi to my neighbors, who were BBQ'ing their dinner. I'd brought food, so ate at one of the picnic tables on the big front lawn. The scenery is spectacular. I was a little concerned about noise, being so close to the highway, but it was dead quiet there at night. No traffic at all, that I could hear, and I slept with the windows open. The only thing that woke me up was a chorus of coyotes in the middle of the night - just like at home! The family that owns and runs the place were very nice, low-key folks who seem sincerely interested in their guests having a good time in the area. I know they mostly cater to people going fishing, but their website also says Big Meadow Lodge is perfect for writers, and they are correct about that. I'm a writer, and I would love to spend a week here just being left alone to focus, think, and write. Maybe someday... read more

Beautiful lodge. I was kinda shocked with how nice the room was. Nice and tighty, clean and MODERN. There's obviously been some work put into this place. Start with the obvious: though the cabin is small, it's truly the definition of cozy. Big comfortable beds, nice powerful heating system, and even extra blankets are provided just in case. For us Southern Californians who have had nothing but 90 degree weather all year, the 30 degree evenings can be especially challenging so the extra thought is certainly most appreciated. New TV plus cable, pretty good Internet despite warnings of just keeping it to basic browsing otherwise the system could potentially disconnect, and the nightstands come equipped with a standard outlet plus two USB outlets. Now that's what I'm talking about. The bathroom was freezing and after my shower there was condensation everywhere but oh well. Who cares. I had a good stay. Would stay again. If the owner is reading this, whose dog is that? I wanted to play with it but I'm not sure it would have appreciated a stranger coming up to it so I left it alone. read more

My family and I spent three nights here in cabin 7 last week. Although I was pretty skeptical when we first arrived, it turned out to be a great place. Our cabin had two sets of bunk beds (much to my 9yo sons delight) and a queen bed. The beds were so comfortable! There was also a full kitchen with EVERYTHING you need (microwave, oven/stove, toaster, blender, full size fridge/freezer and all the utensils you'll need). This cabin was literally feet from the highway but it wasn't bad at all. At night with the doors and windows shut I never was awakened by highway noise. The bathroom is quite large and although the shower itself is small it was good. The towels are nice and fluffy and they give you plenty. They also carry good shampoo and conditioner incase you forget your own. I can't speak of the other rooms here...but if you're looking for a nice place to sleep while you're in Bridgeport for fishing and fun...this would be it. Especially with a family. It was clean and comfortable. My only suggestion would be to bring your own ez-up if you would like to sit outside. The side of the cabin gives off a little shade. But after about 3-4 pm the sun is right on you. And there are no trees. The grass is nice and it's fun to sit outside and watch the trucks and look at the beautiful view of the mountains and huge meadow on the other side of the highway. read more

Entomologists wanted, ha! To start off check in is 3pm, so when we arrive at 4:15pm, you'd assume it would be ready for us. But no one is in the office. She comes out from an RV parked next to it and says she needs to make the bed and clean it up still. We notice that the pictures from Priceline must be years old, as much has changed. We unload as shes cleaning, awkward. Hot as an oven, but thats my fault for not making sure, NO AC. Nice usb plug-ins for all our gadgets and the shower was good with nice clean towels. BUT the bugs make it a 1 star, well that and the bullet hole thats unpatched in the window! read more

Such an awesome place. If you are looking for a place to stay while driving down 395 I really recommend Big Meadow Lodge. It's the cheapest in town but don't let that fool you. The rooms are clean, views are great and the fire pits outside make for a peaceful evening. Now, if you are used to staying in big fancy hotels like Marriott you may not agree with me. After deciding to visit Bodie I randomly chose Big Meadow Lodge after a google search. So happy to get there and find out that it lived up to the great reviews. The cabin was clean and the microwave, fridge and coffee pot were nice touches. The bunkbed was the highlight of my eight year old's trip. It was unseasonably cold when we were there so we didn't take advantage of the bbq outside our room or the firepit which had a nice stack of wood ready to go. But if we follow through on our plans to visit the area again to do a bit of fishing, we will definately stay here again. read more

What a horrible experience here. This place is all kinds of gross and creepy. This is a long review, but for those who don't want to read all of it: dead spiders and bugs in every room of the cabin INCLUDING the bed, the service was shady and I'm pretty sure the guy working the day was high out of his mind. Let's start from the beginning. 1) Making the reservations This place is all sorts of unorganized. I call them to make a room reservation about 2-3 weeks in advance, and things go smoothly. However, I don't get any sort of confirmation. I understand that it's a small town, but I thought a phone call at least a couple days before would be helpful. 2) Calling to confirm my reservation Since no confirmation was ever given to me or any details about the time of check-in, I gave them a call the morning of my arrival to confirm. The person answering the phone was just completely out of it. His responses were slow and I felt like an idiot for calling because I thought my questions were "odd". 3) Arriving and "Checking In" We park in front of the building clearly marked "office". But, our mistake, that this isn't their office (although labeled) but they somehow converted it so that a person can stay there. So we were told to go to the back of the building so that they could "check us in". We oblige and walk around to the back. The person who greeted us was probably the same person I spoke to about confirming my reservation - he spoke very slowly and his eyes were bloodshot (probably high out of his mind). He points to some cabin and says "there's your room". And a good 15 seconds pass before I realize that was the end of his sentence and I had to ask "umm.. well, do we have any room keys??" and then he realized that he didn't give me any keys. Then, when he's going to process my credit card, he tells us we can't go into the shady back "office" because it's messy and he's doing "laundry". So the bf and I look at each other... I give him my credit card (unwillingly) and he charges the amount I was quoted earlier. 4) THE GOD AWFUL ROOM Let me just bullet point this to get to the point: - Dead spiders in the toilet - Dead spider in the shower - Dead cricket laying on the ground in the middle of the "kitchen" area - Dead bugs in the window area - DEAD SPIDER IN THE BED I understand that we're in the "mountains" but seriously? A dead spider in the bed? I don't even think house keeping cleaned this place. When I go ask the employee if they have any other rooms, they have none. He offers to change the sheets, at least, but geez louise. This is disgusting. Luckily when I asked for a refund he was able to give it to me. I am absolutely horrified by the service of this place and the cleanliness of this place. I have no idea how this place has 5 stars (granted there are only 6 reviews). read more

The Short Version: Great place to stay if you're up in Bridgeport to go fishing! The cabin was really clean. Has everything you need, including a coffee maker, fridge and microwave. Travis, the manager, is super-friendly, and will even go fishing with you if you want to find some good fishing spots. Travis showed us the other rooms, and some of the rooms have bunk beds plus a full size bed - great for a family or groups traveling together. Our cabin had a queen bed. Very impressed, and glad we stayed there. The Longer Version: Travis, the manager, took over the Big Meadow after his father, Skip Baker, passed away from pancreatic cancer a year ago. He's working hard to keep his dad's dream alive. He's incredibly friendly and helpful, and you can tell that he takes his task of keeping the Lodge in the family seriously. The lodge is conveniently located right next to a very good Mexican restaurant. We had our cattle dog and a 5 1/2 month baby with us, and Travis gave us a great deal on one of the private cabins that had a queen bed. The cabin was really cute and perfect for our little family. Their website says that it is like camping indoors, and I think that's underestimating the comfort of the cabins. Since our little son got a bit sick, I had to stay back at the Lodge sometimes while my hubby went fishing. Travis joined him several times, and showed him some great fishing spots on the West Walker that we later explored together. We're already planning our next trip up there, and we'll be giving Travis a call when we go. The Big Meadow Lodge is now our official place to stay in Bridgeport! read more

Great place to stay if you want a getaway in Yosemite. It is close to so many local attractions as Twin Lakes, Yosemite National Park (Tioga Pass entrance), Mono Lake, and the Ghost Town of Bodie. Me and my boyfriend were there this weekend. We stayed at cabin 3. Perfect for a couple or a small family. The cabin is so clean and well equipped with microwave, coffee maker, cups, towels, bath bars, shampoo etc. This is the same as a hotel but with a "too good to be true" price. If I am going to Yosemite area, I will pick this place for sure. The most important thing, the manger is super nice and the doggie is so friendly as well. Unforgettable place! read more

Group of us senior gals wanted a scenic trip up to Yosemite and ghost towns, so we pooled our Soc Sec $$ for gas and lodging. This place had been recommended to us by friends as rustic, scenic and suited to our budget. Friendly young kid managing the place made us a campfire and swapped life stories. Seems he's trying to run the lodge for his Mom and siblings -- learning as he goes along. (Sweet kid...we wanted to take him to Yosemite with us!) Kid was very eager to please and even offered to take us fishing, which we declined. Our room was spacious and clean with big, comfy beds. Felt like summer camp when we were kids. We extended our stay to two nights so we could explore Bridgeport and surrounding area. Loved it and would go back. read more

My buddies and I have been coming to this place for the past 4 years. We wouldn't stay in any other place in Bridgeport because the cabins are clean and warm. The Cabins all have direct TV which is a bonus. Double bonus is the excellent cell phone reception and the view while sitting on the porch. This is a family owned business and they are trying their best to keep a dream alive from a man who loved the town of Bridgeport but passed away a few years back. You can tell the place is loved because of the decor and the clean cabins. Reading through the reviews it's safe to say everybody, except one grumpy person who didn't even stay, thinks this place is wonderful. I my sister, and our kids loved staying here, just 1 mile south of town, over the newer strip hotels in town. Comfort w a blast from the past and best prices in town plus they are pet friendly. We sat outside out cabins in bouncy comfy lawn chairs, sipping wine and watching the sun set over the Sawtooth Mountains as the kids ran and played on the expansive lawn. We feasted on s'mores over the glowing fire pit. Located next to 395, convenient and easy to find. New owner shared plans for making stays even better. We liked the wooden hangers for fishing waders outside each front door, the the quaint inside racks for keeping one's fishing rods safe at nite. Bridgeport is a Mecca for serious and not so serious fisherpersons. It's the closest place to stay if you are headed to Bodie.I highly recommend Big Meadow Lodge for it's attention to guest amenities as well as it's welcome simplicity. read more

I was a bit leery when we drove up to to this lodge and checked in but I had reservations and we were very tired. When we went into the cabin my first thought was how small it was. Then I saw all the knotty pine on the walls and ceiling which was truly amazing and gave it a warm and cozy vibe. It was clean and the beds were very comfortable with lots of blankets. The cabin was updated with a nice flat screen tv with Direct TV and lots of channels. It has a small refrigerator and a real coffee pot. (not the little 1 cup motel coffee pots like we had in Reno.) We had never stayed in a cabin like this and we will definitely plan on returning. read more

My two kids and I found this cozy rustic lodge by chance and had a blast. It is meant for people who enjoy the outdoors. You are on a few acres and my son enjoyed checking out the local wildlife aka bugs and creatures but thats what lil boys should be doing in the great outdoors. We stayed at Big Meadow Lodge this week and had a great time. It was recommended to us by my in laws, who have stayed there several times and love it. We had reservations and when we got there in the afternoon we were greated by the manager Travis who is a very nice young man. He showed us to our cabin and made sure we had everything we needed. The room was clean and super cute. It is rustic and decorated with primitive pictures and denim comforters on the bunk beds. It was exactly the way we wanted to spend my sons 15th birthday. During the day we spent most of our time fishing, because that's what boys like to do. We tried the spots that Travis recommended to us and caught our limit each day. That part was awsome too. At night we enjoyed a camp fire and Travis and Charlie even joined us for chocolate cake and played guitar with my son, who is the most awsome musician :) We will defiantly be going back soon. The Big Meadow Lodge is a Fish Camp. Some of the rooms have a queen bed plus a set of bunk beds. They are clean and comfortable. I've stayed in 4 of the 6 rooms while working in the area. I go to bed early and get up early and quiet is very important to me. It is quieter here than at the motels in town, having only 6 rooms. Three of the rooms are stand alone cabins. read more
