We stayed for three nights at this place. The rooms are great, but the old lady at the front desk has a pretty nasty attitude. The sign at the front desk says that if you stay three or more nights, you get room service. As I mentioned, we stayed three nights. When we went to the front desk to request clean towels and garbage service, she looked up our room number and informed us that we have to stay four nights in order to receive those services. It seems like she was intentionally choosing not to help us. We ended up taking out our own garbage, buying toilet paper at the store next-door and carrying our own linens back up to the room so that we had fresh supplies. On the morning of checkout, we left our room at 7 o'clock to go next-door for breakfast. When we returned at 8:15, our keys had been disabled and we were unable to enter into our room. Checkout time is 10 o'clock so I'm unsure why they chose to disable our keys so early in the morning. Again, we went downstairs and had to deal with the old lady up front. She did not seem interested in helping, but grudgingly gave us keys so that we could get back into our room until checkout time. It's unfortunate that such a beautiful property is being micromanaged by someone like the person at the front desk. Such potential being wasted on horrible employees. We will not be back. read more

Lake View Lodge worked fine for us as a one-night stop while traveling from Lassen Volcanic National Park toward Death Valley National Park, mainly to spend some time exploring Mono Lake. For one night, it served its purpose perfectly well. But honestly, if we had stayed longer, I probably would have agreed more strongly with many of the other reviews. The rooms definitely feel dark, outdated, and a little dingy. Not terrible, but very much the kind of place where you say, "Well... at least we are only here one night." The biggest frustration was the reservation situation. At check-in, we were told we had booked the wrong date, even though our confirmation through Booking.com clearly showed the correct reservation date. We ended up being charged, and now we have to sort it out afterward through Booking.com, which is frustrating because based on other reviews mentioning similar issues, it honestly seemed more like a property-side problem than ours. Now for the surprisingly good part: the little café upstairs, which I believe may be associated with the lodge. That place was actually really enjoyable. Great views, a lovely outdoor yard area to sit and eat, and genuinely good food with huge portions. And when I say huge, I mean the burrito could probably qualify as emergency wilderness survival equipment. If you order it, prepare yourself. That thing could easily feed four people, no exaggeration. We may still be digesting it somewhere between Mono Lake and Death Valley. Overall, this is not a luxury stay by any means, but as a practical overnight stop near Mono Lake, it worked well enough. Just double-check your reservation details carefully and maybe arrive with realistic expectations about the rooms. Oh! Stay AWAY from this nasty lodge!! We planned for two night with this lodge on the July 4th weekend through 2 separate bookings - one through an online agency as the 4th night was sold out quickly around the area, and one reservation by phone. Upon our arrival, they noticed there are some discrepancies in our number of guests as the online bookings indicates 2 adults and my phone reservation indicates 2 adults and 2 kids. I explained that the online booking happened too fast. I probably did not even notice the guest number discrepancy. So the front desk assistant called his female hotel manager in. Here is how the scenes began: The moment she arrived, her first question was "Do you realize it's a felony to lie about the number of guest of your booking? We cannot host you." Obviously, She came in with the already formed pre-assumption that we are trying to lie to them. Lady, in case you have any sort of logical thinking ability - think about this: had I wanted to lie about the number of guests, I wouldn't have told the truth on my phone reservation. At that point I started to beg her as I knew all nearby hotels were sold out and we were traveling with two young children. She then threatened to call the sheriffs if we don't leave. We ended up leaving and luckily was able to find a town nearby with available room for 2 nights. I also checked online about her alleged statement over "felony crime" on hotel booking. There is NO such thing! It is really UNNECESSARY for her to make such a falsified threat to her customers. It is an irony that someone working in the hospitality industry with such a nasty and hostile personality. I really feel sorry for the owner of the Lake View Lodge to hire such an incompetent hotel manager. Traveling around the world, she is absolutely the most unpleasant hotel management I've encountered, bar none. On our way out in the car, my kids said she looked like a Karen. Laughing at it, I have to admit she's very much an ill-intended one! Your money would be better spent somewhere else. Stay away from this place as far as you can. Their management has absolute no human decency at all!!! read more

New employees I believe. I told both front desk managers that our tv wasn't working. Both said that they would take care of it. No one even came to check. I also talked to one of the housekeepers and told her that we needed soap and toilet paper in our room and was told "I don't speak English". Nothing I have stayed here several times and never had service like that. read more

Had car trouble and needed a room with no notice. The room was nice, the staff were friendly and the surroundings were quiet.

Old, musty smelly room. Water leak on floor in bathroom as soon as we entered our room. Desk attendant had to call the owner and was concerned about having to move us (there were two of us, both photographers with a lot of gear) to another room. Apparently the only similar room available was upstairs and we had requested and been given a downstairs room. We did not want upstairs due to equipment. The attendant reviewed the leaky plumbing and put a trash can under the leak to catch the water. We emptied once before lights out, once during the night and once in the morning. The option of another room or rooms was never given to us. Calling a plumber at 6:00pm was not an option apparently. I can not recommend this motel. There are worse motels. But there must be better ones in Lee Vining. There was no lake view from our room. WiFi was nearly non-existent. read more

This is another situation in which I wish it were possible to give fractional ratings. For the Lake View Lodge, I'd say that it's better than a 3-star hotel but perhaps not quite 4 stars. It's definitely a solid 3.5 stars in my book. We stayed here for two nights during this past Labor Day weekend. It was an impromptu trip for us, and our choices of lodging were limited. I settled on this one because of its proximity to the places that we intended to visit, namely Mono Lake and Bodie. First impressions were good; this was not a roadside motel but was set back from the street. The grounds out front are nicely landscaped with mature trees providing plenty of shade. There are several places to sit and gaze in the direction of the lake, which is somewhat visible from the hotel but still quite a ways off in the distance. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms. There are options for cabins and even RVs parked behind the lodge. By the time we booked, there were only hotel rooms and an RV available, but we probably wouldn't have opted for the cabins after reading that some of them do not have air conditioning and that wi-fi isn't available (a necessity for my kid's homework during our trip). Our hotel room was surprisingly spacious. There was a comfortable overstuffed chair to sit in, which was nice, but other than the desk chair there was no other place to sit. There's enough room to put in a few more chairs or even a dinette table, which would have been appreciated. The room was clean, and though it seemed a little dated in decor it didn't have a musty old atmosphere either. The bathroom amenities are very basic - just small bars of soap and a few bottles of conditioning shampoo. The towels were clean and fresh and reasonably soft. There were two sinks, one in the common area and one by in the bathroom separated from the shower and toilet by a door - a nice set up that allowed us to get cleaned up simultaneously. The shower water pressure was good but on occasion I got a brief cold blast of water before quickly warming up again. The beds were firmer than I prefer and I detected a slight sag on my side of the bed. Each queen bed only came with three thin pillows, which was pretty much the only real complaint I had with the room. The bedding was also basic, with one of those typical knit polyester blankets over the top sheet, but for the late summer weather it was adequate. The air conditioning (a wall unit at the front of the room) worked better than expected, and held up well during the warmer-than-usual temperatures during our stay. Only half the curtain was 100% light-blocking, but the other half was dark enough that the early morning sun - the rooms all face east - did not wake us up. There's a mini-fridge and a microwave for convenience, both of which worked well. The TV was quite small for the room size, but this wasn't really an issue for us. The front desk person was friendly and check-in was simple. There was no housekeeping service during our short stay, which was fine by us since we don't need fresh towels or sheets each day anyways. All together, this was a fine experience for us. Admittedly, I balked at the price (with taxes and fees, it came to about $225/night), but I think that's to be expected during a holiday weekend. If we ever find ourselves in this area again, we'd certainly consider making a return visit. read more

We had a nice visit to Lee Vining. The cabin was clean and well stocked. The price was reasonable. Two small complaints. 1-They would not let me plug my hybrid in to charge overnight. She said the electricity was not sufficient but there were 50 amp RV pedastals so I don't understand why my 10 amps was going to be a problem. We did find a free charger by the park about half a mile away. 2-It was a two bedroom cabin but there were only 2 chairs for the dining table. Either they thought we would not eat in, or they expected one person per room. I went to the office and they brought two more chairs so it worked out OK. read more

I had a confirmed reservation through hotels.com. I show up and they told me they tried to contact me but I have no phone calls and I found an email from late today telling me that they need to interview me. So I get there I get on the house phone and they interview me for 10 minutes. After that the manager says well I don't even know if we have a room which is peculiar because they had a room when I made the reservation. So then he says they don't even have a room. I ended up on June lake at Boulder Lodge. It was $25 a night cheaper, it's very rustic, I have a balcony, and I have a gorgeous view of the lake which I'm going to post on this review. So if I were you and you're looking for pretty reasonably priced hotel go to Boulder Lodge. read more

We have been staying here for many years, usually in Oct. The quality has really deteriorated lately. We stayed in Sept and Oct this year. Our room in Sept had 2 sinks. One sink the faucet was so stuck we could hardly get water. The other sink the faucet broke and rusty water came out, meaning it had been stuck for some time. The handle totally broke off. In Oct. the refrigerator did not work and we were told there was no maintenance person on duty. The next day they replaced it. The towel rod fell off the wall. The sink stopper didn't work. We tried to plug something into the wall outlet and it just fell out. Another guest was not given the room they reserved and there was no appology. Another guest also had the towel rod break and their toilet did not stop running all night. On the plus side the cafe was great and the gardens wonderful. We just hope they do a better job maintaining the rooms or they will be losing long time customers. Judging by the number of bad reviews recently, others are having issues as well. read more

I called and made direct reservations well in advance. I told them I had 2 young grandsons. One was 14 and the other was 15. We were assured by the receptionist that would be okay. The room booked was to be a single king with a kitchenette. We brought a roll up mattress for one of us to sleep on. Any way, upon checking in, we were told only 2 people were allowed to be in the room. Plus, children were to be under 12 years old. I pleaded that this was not my mistake but their's when I booked the room. I wanted to cancel the reservation due to their mistake. They said I was not going to get a refund. 48 hour notice required. So, asked for another room that would accommodate 3 "adults"? They did have a room available but it would be at a higher per night cost. I asked why wouldn't I get the same price as the original booked room? They wouldn't budge. I asked if we could maybe get a rollaway bed. I was told that would be an additional $25 per day. So, background, the original owners, Bill and Ellen Banta would be rolling over in their graves knowing this was going on. 90 years in business and what have the Banta family heirs learned? I started coming here in the '40s, '50s and '60s. Stayed here with my Grandparents and Parents every year for 2 weeks. We even moved into one of the, at the time cabins. We lived here and I went to Leevining Elementary. I thought it was going to be a pleasant, nostalgic and reminiscent stay. I wanted my Grandsons to have the same " karma" experience I had known. Well that was shattered in a few moments. BTW, the front desk folks were in phone contact with a "Banta" owner during this whole ordeal. The owner(s) were very rigid and unyielding to my pleading. I guess legacy was lost here along the inheritance., More back ground. I did not name drop with them. But just for nostalgia, I not only go back to Ellen and Bill Banta's ownership but their son Donnie, his wife Rita, and their son Billie and Susie. Rita was my Sunday school teacher. Donnie would let me ride along to do dump runs. He even took me along to do his preseason scoping for deer. Any way, I have so many great memories of this place from my youth and the original caring Banta family. Too bad that same caring and loving hospitality has not been inherited/carried forward by this Banta generation. Somehow, sadly, it has been lost. Won't stay here again. Solid rooms, surprisingly nice. Decently priced. Great location. Open in the winter (we used it as an ice climbing hub). The built-in restaurant (Epic Cafe) is one of the greatest places to eat in all of the eastern Sierra. I'm not exaggerating. They are closed all winter, but are experimenting with being open on holiday weekends. Nice option (one of the only) for a place to stay in the winter in this area. We drove down from Reno on our way to Yosemite. We stayed at the Lake View Lodge to give us time to drive around the June Lake Loop and get an early start to the park. Our room was large and comfortable. The only quirk was the bathroom sink, which looked like an insert placed in an existing cabinet. Anyone under 5-foot-8 might need a stool to get up high enough to use it. We really enjoyed our stay here. Despite the motel being full, it was quiet. The staff was friendly. read more

This was our first stop on a drive from the Los Angeles area to central Oregon for a birdwatching trip. We found Lake View Lodge to be overpriced, in our opinion, for off-season, especially when compared with our next night's stay in Winnemucca. Yeah, I know that Mono Lake and Yosemite are a far cry from the mountains south of Winnemucca, but Tioga Pass was closed, as were some of the roads from 395 into the White Mountains and Benton area. Previous commenters commented on the remodeling. We found it to be a little strange. Furniture and surfaces were nice, but the sinks were way too high. We're people in the 5' to 5'8" range, and the sinks were at mid-chest level or higher, with faucet controls even higher. I guess their carpenters were ex-NBA players or something. The lodge did not offer breakfast, and had otherwise limited amenities. read more

Recommended by a friend and room was perfect for our group. Other rooms available with kitchens or for families. A mini-fridge and microwave were all we needed. Check-in was safe with Covid precautions well posted and in-person contact minimized. No room servicing during our stay to protect housekeeping staff which was not a problem. Extra supplies always available at office. We were particularly appreciative of the clerk who was helpful and accommodating when we had to leave early due to imminent road closures that would have impacted our travel home. Convenience makes this a star resort. Rooms are either ground or second floor level and parking is ample for the rooms. The garden is gorgeous in late July when we were here. We parked right in front of ours. There's a cafe affiliated with the hotel that gives a discount if we are guests of the hotel. Their breakfast was delicious! It's 13 miles from the East gate of Yosemite. It has views of Mono Lake and is about 12 minutes from South Tufa towers. The room itself (we got two queen beds) was large enough to hold all our (4people) stuff and still be comfortable. Two sinks, microwave and mini fridge. Housekeeping services were perfect. The room was very clean & stocked every day. The pillows were flat and the linens were a bit on the thin side but the beds were comfortable. The temperature was great. It was very cold outside and the heater worked wonderfully. We had a refrigerator and microwave, both of which worked well. We had a peekaboo view of mono lake but our window was so dirty we couldn't actually see out of it. All the other windows were sparkling clean though. There was a bloodstain on my top sheet. The shower changed from scolding hot to painfully ice cold. Internet was fast and consistent. I gave three stars due to the flat pillows, old linens, stained sheet, and dirty window. We rented two of the "Cozy Cabins" to crash out after a long 300 mile + street bike ride through Yosemite. Pretty neat,small cabins(really perminent trailers)with a small kitchen,shower,fridge,tv's. The Lodge also has conventional hotel type rooms & small cottages to rent. Gal at the front desk was helpful,even as we checked in @ 10pm. I must apolgise to all the other guests,as the four of us stayed up until 2am drinking on the small front porchs. $120.00 per night. Prolly be back!! read more

DO NOT STAY AT THIS MOTEL. They have a misleading cancellation policy that charges you a fee of $25 even if you cancel your reservation 30 days prior, or even 360 days prior. I had to cancel my trip to yosemite last minute because of unhealthy air quality from surrounding fires, and shut down roads and they refused to give me a refund for my stay. Customer service was horrible and the management was rude and not willing to accommodate at all. now i'm out of my job for the week and also having to come up with my money for the cost of the hotel. I obviously wouldn't have canceled if i could've come on the trip, but with the fires and conditions, it was impossible; and they were not understanding at all. read more

We stayed at Lake View Lodge for three nights. We just stopped by at the reception desk and booked a room - a family suite with a kitchen so we could cook. Overall, it was ok, though for ~$250 per night (including taxes and fees) I would expect more. I guess this is what you pay for not planning ahead and booking in advance. The location is convenient as you can explore the area around Mono Lake or drive to Yosemite. Lee Vining, CA is a micro-town or village with a couple of gas stations and one grocery store that had very limited offerings. We could count produce options using only one hand. The place is old and would benefit from a major renovation. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. Some power outlets were loose and couldn't even hold our iPhone chargers. The ceiling is a bit too low so it felt a bit trapped to be in the room. The layout of the building is that either you have curtains on your windows closed so you have privacy but sit in the dark, or you have some natural light but full exposure. Overall, it was an ok place, but perhaps there are better alternatives somewhere in a 15-20 min drive range, for instance around June Lake. read more

Lee Vining is a small place. Food options in town are few and not recommended. There are maybe two gas stations that are probably closed at night. I'm not even sure if this settlement -yes, settlement, because I don't think they are even incorporated- has any traffic light. ---The hotel itself--- If I had booked the hotel for this trip, I would've booked the hotel in Mammoth Lakes instead. It was cheaper, and our following destinations were right there. The extra food options aren't as over salted either, and there is cellular service. But we did, and it was a good experience. The hotel itself, though basic, have spacious rooms with above-average/better-standard amenities such as separate bath and washing facilities (the door is past the sink so you aren't stuck in the brushing-teeth line if someone is showering) and a microwave. Wi-Fi wasn't reliable, and cellular service in the area is generally poor until you are approaching Mammoth. ---Why I'm reviewing--- I'm giving this hotel 4 stars, partly because it does the job without issue, but more so because of the unobstructed view of Mono Lake. We had a ground floor room in the third/left most section of the hotel, so we had to walk 30ft to the other end of the parking lot to get a picturesque view of Mono Lake. Oh my god, so hard, right? If you wake up early before sunrise, you will have a prime view of the sun rising over the mountains with the entirety of Mono Lake in the foreground, possibly with trees on the washer of the shot giving your picture a theater feel. The view makes up quite a bit for the lack of internet access, especially if you are a nature person. Though having good Wi-Fi wouldn't hurt when you want to plan ahead during the night. Note: Sunrise was around 6:50 the morning we left. The time of sunrise will affect the location of the over the lake. The later, the more the sunrise will drift to the South, and vice versa. I don't know if the drift goes far enough to go out of view and am not responsible if you fail to enjoy the view or fail to wake up. I also do not control the weather as I am not a god, so it's also not my fault if the clouds do indeed decide to ruin your view. However, if snow in the area has greatly enhanced the view, please do share the photo here on yelp! PS. The morning drive to Mammoth Lakes was quite spectacular, better than the sunset drive when the mountains (except Crater Mountain on the left if early enough) are in the shadow and already dark. This lodge was BEAUTIFUL and with an AMAZING view. This was one of the nicest places We have ever stayed, with amazing staff at the front desk. So helpful and friendly. The $200 room we received had luke warm water at best. It was too cold for a shower or a bath. We requested a discount but were told they would pass our grievance onto the owners. We decided to only stay one night since it was the only place open during the winter. We never heard from the owner or manager regarding any discount. Pretty disappointing. Lake View offers a variety of types of accommodations, and the location is great if you want to enjoy day trips to Yosemite or Mono Lake. If you plan day trips into Yosemite, reservations for day use are required. I recently stayed in a "bare bones" cabin at Lake View, It was a small cabin with a queen bed, table lamps, and patio. Restrooms and showers were in an adjoining building. Facilities were simple and clean. Bedding was adequate for temperature, and there was a heater for the room, no a/c (almost never needed). The cabin would be amazing if there were four pillows (not two), a small mirror, and a small table and chair in the room. The patio area could use a fire pit and table. The images on line show a fire pit, but I only had four chairs, no table or fire pit, very bare. The community restrooms were clean. My only complaint is that I had to pull really hard to get shower on, and shower drain backed up (which was fixed after I informed cleaning staff). The cabin was located behind the motel, in a hodgepodge of cabins, trailers and service buildings. Not a very attractive location but a comfortable place to recover from long day hiking. Staff was friendly and helpful. You can't check in until late, due to Covid cleaning requirements. There is very limited restaurant options, a diner next door with average food and prices. The grocery store is is stocked considering the location. The cafe at the Mobile gas station/mini mart/gift shop/cafe is good for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are hit and miss. If you're at the Mobile station, continue up hill, really awesome Mono Lake vista point. Motel rooms at Lake View Lodge are comfortable but cost twice as much as bare bones cabins. You're paying for location not luxury. There is a wonderful garden/patio with chairs in the shade to enjoy the evening air and view of Mono lake. I love Yosemite and Mono Lake, I visit several times a year. If I'm not camping, Lake View is an affordable and comfortable option. Happy Trails read more

Lake View Lodge is likely the best accommodations in an area of few choices (small strip motels). There are some nice outdoor communal areas with table and/or chairs .. on the deck on lush lawn. Sit and catch the late afternoon breeze, enjoy a cigar, beverage of choice, and relax. From some second level rooms there's a view of Mono Lake. It looks as if there has been recent room renovations of this older "motel" - our room was a cancellation and was huge. Secluded on the second level with a tea table and chairs just outside the door. Oddly placed older furniture and a bathroom with many corners. The room and grounds were clean and convenient to destinations to the north on the 395 (Bridgeport and Bodie) and to the south (June Lake, Mammoth Lakes, and Bishop). Hwy 120, the road to the east entrance to Yosemite, is a few hundred yards down 395. Plenty of parking. Wi-fi is not consistent, dropping often. In room little coffee makers ... bring your own coffee and filters (#2 possibly) or buy at Mono Market next door. The in-room coffee is ick. Or, walk down to either of the two coffee places. Check on your rooms amenities when making a reservation. Lake View Lodge is consistently full so make reservations as early as possible - it was full each night of our 4-day Wed-Sun stay. The parking lot clears out during the day. It's a small town and the front desk peeps work other places. Don't be surprised if the barista you see down the street is the same peep that checked you in. Lakeview lodge is our favorite place to stay when we go up for June Mountain trips. Lee vining is a dead town with nothing open past 8pm which kinda sucks, but lake view lodge provides large sized rooms, standard amenities all at a relatively low price. read more

It's not a Best Western anymore but they haven't removed the signage. We stayed in a cottage that is really a mobile home and actually were very comfortable... I think almost better then a regular hotel room. There is a separate living room, dining room and kitchen. It is more like a Suite with your own parking space and you get a nice redneck porch to chill out and drink your Bud. I would recommend stay here again. read more

This has to be the worse lodge I have ever stayed at. We stayed on the 2.5th floor. There was no direct stair well to this room. (It was taken out. I don't know why.) We had to drag our luggage all the way from the far end of the hotel. When I sat on the corner of the bed it collapsed ( I weigh 160 lbs and the average bed can handle my weigh just fine.) It was listed in the AAA guide and said they offered a 15% AAA discount. Gal at the check in desk said they were no longer affiliated with AAA. One night for a horrible room was $186.59. read more

A view of the lake? Ha! Ask to see your room before checking in to this hotel. For almost $200 a night they wanted to give me a room that was like a jail cell, dark with a view of the dumpster in the back! When I said NO they switched me to a room that still had no view, and was musty-smelling & dreary. It is truly outrageous that some hotels take advantage of their popular tourist location by offering overpriced substandard rooms. read more

Employees are very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the premises leave a lot to be desired. The room is dark - lit by four lamps that seemed to have 10 watt bulbs. Too dark. The bathtub did not have a shelf for your soap and shampoo. The sink is altogether weird - too high and jams into your chest. And, there are hardly any outlets. We had to unplug a lamp to charge our phone. read more

I want to like this motel and have stayed here 2-3 times and the accommodations are adequate in my book. I like old school. But their charges suck. I looked online and booked through their website and selected the room based on the price given. I wasn't really shopping prices as I knew I wanted to stay here. But after I booked the room all the added taxes and fees were added, increasing the rate from about 140-150 per their website advertised price to about 180-190. Ok, not totally unexpected but still disappointing. We arrived to check in and the woman at the desk said I booked through Expedia (which I most certainly did not - I actually made sure I didn't so expedia wasn't skimming their profits) and said she had to charge me another $11 to cover that. I went back in the morning and showed them that I did not book through Expedia, and then I was told it was an environmental fee. $200 a night for a room in the middle of nowhere and they stack on stupid adders after you drive all the way up there. Lake View Lodge just lost my business, forever. read more

We had a Queen room (one Queen). It was a tiny room with a fridge almost not accessible (hard to access). The TV was in a weird angle to the bed, so not really good to see from there (not that you spend much time in the room though). For the price of $159 we expected a bit more and if staying there again I would spend another $10 a night for a bigger room (double queen or king). View out the window was also underwhelming but again, you probably do not spend much time there. Overall ok, since it is very clean and sufficiently. AC seems a little old but since we did not need it it was fine. If the room would be bigger it would have been much nicer. As it was, it was very cramped. read more
