This motel truly is a gem! The reception staff were extremely friendly and efficient. When asked, they were willing to talk with me about the town's economy, history, events, and local places to visit and eat. I was offered tea and coffee on arrival (it was cold!). I felt like I had arrived at a family home. The room was clean, well stocked, and comfortable. Although the property is not new, it is very well maintained and it's clear that the staff/ownership take pride in what they do, We arrived after Memorial Day, and there were small flags around the property. The bathrooms had extra touches (see photos below). The lobby looked like a quaint living room; very inviting. Their attention to detail was evident throughout the property. Without hesitation I would recommend staying here. read more

This is a lovely motel in a small town in a remote area. It has everything one could need in a room, including a fridge and microwave and bathtub and clean bedding. The staff are friendly and helpful and recommended local dinner options. Happy to return if I am ever passing this way again. read more

Sitting in my car in the June Lake area I observed a somewhat disheveled motel maid dragging used bedding to the laundry area causing me to remark on what I'd observed at the Ruby Inn. "Did you notice the cleaning help there?" I asked. "She was so nicely dressed and neat looking. I bet she's the reason the towels were arranged in swan formation and the kleenex presented like a bow on a gift". Despite the 5-stars awarded above, Ruby Inn isn't a 5-star resort. It's a motel in Bridgeport that exhibits true pride of ownership. I saw those industrial laundry machines going and knew immediately that the bedding was laundered throughly, even the bedspread, between each use. Shower cap, soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were standard and replaced each day. Hot water was ample, a refrigerator provided, the room temperature was comfortable, and even near the road the rooms are quiet. If I were to lodge any complaint at all it would be to say that the pool is tiny and that the little cream containers picked up in the front office (where coffee, tea, and cocoa are available morning 'til night) were coddled. The dry creamer in the rooms was fine. The check-in staff, like the cleaning help, were friendly and welcoming and helpful in providing the information I needed to get to both Bodie and Travertine Hot Springs. I didn't wind up at the Ruby Inn by accident. I did my homework and decided this was the nicest place in town despite the 2-night cost of $336. I'm happy to report that, after that two night stay, I had no doubt that I'd chosen correctly. If you're looking for lodging in Bridgeport, Ruby Inn is it. read more

Pulled into town at 5 to be told there was no power and wouldn't be power until 7. It looked like a planned outage, but we weren't informed until arrival (despite only having a handful of guests there to contact) when it was far too late to stop elsewhere for food etc. 7pm comes and goes and still no power. When we inquired at the desk, a man was extremely rude and hostile. Finally asked the utility crews directly, who were far friendlier. Also there is an aggressively Christian vibe. God Bless on their marquee and loud Christian music blaring in the lobby. The bathtub was extremely weird with the shower head really low. I'm 5'3 and barely fit under it. We also found a used plastic knife in the freezer. The decor is 1980s at the latest, which would be fine except for the sharp edge on the table where the laminate is peeling up. It's the middle of nowhere but I would not willingly stay here again. read more

My husband and I came to stay here this past weekend with our pups. Yes, this place is dog friendly. Rooms were clean, definitely on the smaller side but got the job done for our little family. The owner who is at front desk was super helpful with recommendations, tips, and everything in between. She even gave us a map upon our arrival since reception is hard to come by around there. Husband and I are planning to come back over the summer and we will definitely choose to stay here. read more

Spent a few nights here. Covid info: -they are currently not doing continental breakfast but will give you coffee -their pool is closed Pros: -Great place if you are coming with your dog. They have a spacious, fenced in, grassy area for dogs. In that space is also a bench and 2-person bench/swing to enjoy. -friendly staff -walking distance to pretty much everything in town -chairs in front of rooms if you want to relax outside -communal grills and seating available -they have maps of what to check out in the area -they allowed us to do a late checkout Cons: -Small pool. More for relaxing than swimming read more

Mary and Steve saved the day! We were traveling to Tahoe and forgot to pack our snow chains. We were turned around by law enforcement in our 4WD with snow tires. Instead of waiting for the R2 road conditions to open back up a few hours later, we stopped into the only open Motel in Bridgeport that already had a "No Vacancy" sign on. I told my husband let's just try and see. Mary told me they were booked. I stayed in the office to search another location Mary recommended because I had poor reception and needed their Wi-Fi. Steve (Mary's husband) was finished up checking in another gentleman in the office, when he offered me a room they haven't rented out recently due to a broken TV. I took it! We weren't there for TV, just a warm night to sleep. They didn't have yo do that. The room was great! I loved the charm (grandma's house) it has. It's an older Motel so the people reviewing it as "dated", is hilarious. You're on the 395 in the middle of nowhere, are we expecting a Marriott?! It's clean, available with friendly owners. I love that they allow dogs and it's close to a lot of Bridgeport adventures. I would definitely be back here when needed. If you ever find yourself in a situation in the 395 in the winter months, please give Rudy Inn your business. Thank you again read more

I would give this place a 3.5. Rooms are very clean. Kudos to the housekeepers. Beds were soft, and I slept well. The decor is dated, like stuff you would see at your grandmas house. There were a few spiders in the room, which I suppose is inevitable given the location. Make sure to check the ceiling, especially the corners for spiders. The room had a sweet odor that I didn't like. It's a nice place to stop if you need to sleep and rest. read more

Very clean and comfortable room. We are a family of 4 (husband and I and our 2 teens) so we opted for the largest room they offered (2 double beds in one room and lock off room, also with 2 queen beds) Stayed for 4 nights and was amazed at how cozy everything was. Enjoyed the in-room coffee maker with bean grinder. Housekeeping really takes the time to pay attention to detail and adds nice personal touches - such as the folding of towels into animals and a Kleenex bow-tie. Sure, the decor is a blast from the past but everything was in perfect shape and clean. You just don't find that anymore. During our stay in Bridgeport, we enjoyed several restaurants that were great, including the Bridgeport Inn (great dinners) also spent a couple days at Twin Lakes, Yosemite and Bodie. The boys enjoyed the on site hot tub at night. Only issue we had was that the lock off room didn't get cooled down sufficiently . There was a floor fan provided but it wouldn't suffice. Maybe install a small AC unit for that room. I'm sure it's only an issue in the hottest part of the summer. Overall a nice stay in Bridgeport and when we return we would definitely stay at the Ruby Inn again. read more

I would give this lovely, well-kept and quiet motel 5 stars but the outside sign said "God bless" and there was a crucifix prominently displayed in the lobby. My husband and I decided to visit Mono Lake on Thanksgiving. When we arrived in Bridgeport it was after dark and we were worried that our large dog would make finding a room difficult. -- Thankfully, a simple google search lead us to Ruby Inn where the staff warmly welcomed us, made local recommendations, and allowed our dog to stay for free. Also, the rooms are extremely clean and well maintained! You can definitely tell this family run business takes pride in the details: Coffee maker and grinder, folding the wash cloths into swans, etc. read more

You're in Bridgeport for one of three reasons: 1) You're a fisherwoman or man 2) You're en route to or from Mammoth, Yosemite, Mono Lake, Bodie, or some other Eastern Sierra destination 3) You need a respite from the noise and stress of urban life and TOTALLY WANT TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL. Bridgeport is an interesting historic town, pretty isolated and tiny. Despite its unassuming size, it actually has some interesting historic buildings, and it's fun to use as a base camp to explore the surrounding area. While you're there, the Best Western Ruby Inn is pretty much the best place for lodging in town. Sure, there are a number of other motels or fishing lodges, but of them all, the Ruby has the best beds, biggest rooms, and is the cleanest. Management is friendly, and they keep the place well maintained. For a place so modest and so remote, you'd expect to pay a lot less for your room -- the prices are on the high side for a place like this ($165 for a room with two queen beds). But keep in mind the relative lack of competition, and the fact that Bridgeport's season is limited to May through the end of October, due to severe weather that closes Tioga Pass (the main access to Bridgeport through Yosemite) all winter and into half of the spring. You can always get to Bridgeport via Hwy 395 all year. The town throws a big Fourth of July celebration each year, and has frequent rodeos and fishing festivals. If you stay at the Ruby, be sure to make dinner reservations at Restaurant 1881 right across the street. It is a charming Victorian with a surprisingly complex menu and well executed meals. (Save room for dessert, and be sure to order the Hummingbird Cake!). For breakfast, try the Hays Street Cafe -- enormous pancakes, wonderful cinnamon rolls, excellent omelets! In the motel lobby, grab the map of historic buildings -- you can walk around the town and visit all the sites in about 1-1/2 hours. Lots of cute antique shops, general store, old churches, gold-rush era jail, interesting vintage courthouse. It's like walking back in time. If this motel were anywhere else in more populated areas of the state, I'd give it 3 stars, because it's basic, modest, clean and satisfactory, but nothing special or "wow!" Given that it's the best place in town, hence for what it is, it's at the top of its game, I'm tempted to give it 5 stars. However, because the price is so (relatively) astronomical, it gets 4 big stars. read more

Ruby Inn-Magnuson - Friendly staff. Clean room. Thank you. - Hotels Near Me - Bridgeport, California

Pet friendly! Hubby and the kids wanted to go to Bodie ghost town, so we decided to stay in Bridgeport. If you are expecting fancy hotels like you'll find in the bigger cities, don't bother coming to this wonderful little town. The folks at the Ruby Inn were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was spotless. We were happy to see a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker in the room. There is also an ironing board, iron, and blow dryer. Nice little basket of soaps and shampoo. We were a little leery because our room and was close to the street, but it was incredibly quiet and we slept very comfortably. The pool is teeny tiny, but absolutely perfect for the kids. There is a barbecue area, with a propane grill you can use. Two nice areas for smoking, and a great fenced in dog walking area. Coffee, tea, juice, bagels, pastry, eggs and fruit are available starting at 7:30 in the morning. Wish we were staying longer; this is a cool town, and the Ruby Inn was perfect for us. We are definitely planning another trip when we can stay longer and do more exploring! read more

Made a spontaneous weekend trip and needed a room on our way to the Bristlecone pine forest and was told by a friendly woman on the phone that they had vacancies. Online reviews were good so we stopped and got a room. It's a classic roadside motel but very neat and the grounds are nicely planted and well taken care of. The rooms are large and quiet. Windows open, which is sorely lacking in most newer hotels. Even though it's on the highway, it's quiet. The room was one of the cleanest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. It's a bit dated and there were some water stains on the ceiling but it's clean. CLEAN, clean. Baseboards even wiped. Picture frames dusted. No grout issues. And the towels folded in fancy shapes; the Kleenex and toilet paper were folded with bows. The linens were so clean and fresh. Bed was firm but comfortable. Pillows are soft. Friendly staff. Tea & cocoa at night. Real pride is taken in maintaining these rooms and the property. For a last-minute hotel, we couldn't be happier. We would definitely stay here again. read more

We were recently evacuated due to a fire in my town and we drove to Bridgeport and found the Ruby Inn....i was drawn to their sign and the quaintness if the Inn. Loved my stay at the Ruby Inn in Bridgeport. A real throwback to Americana circa 50s and 60s of last century. Quite a refreshing change from the soulless motel chains we see these days (e.g., Motel 6, La Quinta, Holiday Inn, ... and on and on). The room had a certain "motel smell" which I love and associate with the motels I stayed in with my parents in my childhood. There was a sense of adventure... The motel has a hot tub which I saw other guests using. It looked inviting. Mary and Steve, the owners, were very friendly. As I understood it later, they stay up until late in the evening and then sleep late the next morning -- at the motel. The motel has been in the family for 40 or 50 years. Ruby was the grandmother of Mary (or Steve?). Don't miss it if you are passing through! read more

My crew and I have been saying here at he Ruby for almost 4 weeks while we worked on the nearby marine base. Steve and Mary are extremely polite and run an amazing business. The rooms are good size with a bed, two bedside tables, long dresser, dining table, big closet, fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and large flat screen tv mounted on the wall. They have a small breakfast from 730-10 in the office. Not a whole lot, but hits the spot before work. They have muffins, bagels, and pastries along with coffee and juice. The only problem I encountered was the refrigerator is very small. There is no smoking in the rooms but they do have two smoking sections on the premises. There is also an oversized jacuzzi and BBQ grill. I will definitely recommend my company stay here anytime we are working in Bridgeport. read more

Stopped-in here totally last-minute after the owner of another Motel in-town screamed and threatened me. Came-in here hoping for a better experience and couldn't have found a nicer place to stay! Staff was super-friendly and went-out of their way to make sure my friends and I felt welcome. We stayed in the older, single-story portion of the property and while the rooms were a bit dated they had everything we needed, including a large flat screen TV mounted on the wall. Great place to spend a night or two. Ample parking for trucks and small trailers. Will stop-in here again on my next trip to the area! read more

Not a fancy new hotel if that is what you are looking for, but look around those don't exist in Bridgeport. We picked the hotel because it was dog friendly and were pleasantly surprised with our experience. Checked in late and the owners were still very welcoming and friendly. Gave suggestions for a late night dinner and offered to all around to find somewhere that was still serving food. They have a great dog area, fully fenced in so the dog could run after the long drive. The room was spotless! The bathroom was spotless, the make cute towel animals and fun creative folding in the toilet paper and tissues, which show me the pride the owners take in the property. They do have a little picnic area with a gas BBQ and a large hot tub, we didn't use them but had we wanted to they were available and well kept. If I stay in Bridgeport again I will definitely stay here. Yes, it did seem pricier than the some of the other options but the reviews were great and I am glad we made the choice to stay here. Very clean, very friendly staff, dog friendly. read more

I guess the most important thing to say is that this Gem of the Sierra is both meticulously clean and quiet. it is, however, greatly overpriced, but then again in mid- January it is the only motel open in town and I am grateful it was here. the bathroom was immaculate with origami folded towels. the tissue box was presented as a bow tie and I should have taken a photo of the TP because the cascade of folds was so sweet and lovely. the heater worked and we could watch PBS from the station in Reno. Downton Abbey! The shower is nice and hot and there is a heat lamp! The building is older, but it's in excellent condition and very clean. The heater worked great! Great motel to stay at and fantastically friendly desk staff. Nice quiet room with very nice large tv with channels galore ! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is there's no pool.
