    A room at Ruby Inn
    Tracey A.

Sitting in my car in the June Lake area I observed a somewhat disheveled motel maid dragging used bedding to the laundry area causing me to remark on what I'd observed at the Ruby Inn. "Did you notice the cleaning help there?" I asked. "She was so nicely dressed and neat looking. I bet she's the reason the towels were arranged in swan formation and the kleenex presented like a bow on a gift". Despite the 5-stars awarded above, Ruby Inn isn't a 5-star resort. It's a motel in Bridgeport that exhibits true pride of ownership. I saw those industrial laundry machines going and knew immediately that the bedding was laundered throughly, even the bedspread, between each use. Shower cap, soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were standard and replaced each day. Hot water was ample, a refrigerator provided, the room temperature was comfortable, and even near the road the rooms are quiet. If I were to lodge any complaint at all it would be to say that the pool is tiny and that the little cream containers picked up in the front office (where coffee, tea, and cocoa are available morning 'til night) were coddled. The dry creamer in the rooms was fine. The check-in staff, like the cleaning help, were friendly and welcoming and helpful in providing the information I needed to get to both Bodie and Travertine Hot Springs. I didn't wind up at the Ruby Inn by accident. I did my homework and decided this was the nicest place in town despite the 2-night cost of $336. I'm happy to report that, after that two night stay, I had no doubt that I'd chosen correctly. If you're looking for lodging in Bridgeport, Ruby Inn is it.

Pulled into town at 5 to be told there was no power and wouldn't be power until 7. It looked like a planned outage, but we weren't informed until arrival (despite only having a handful of guests there to contact) when it was far too late to stop elsewhere for food etc. 7pm comes and goes and still no power. When we inquired at the desk, a man was extremely rude and hostile. Finally asked the utility crews directly, who were far friendlier. Also there is an aggressively Christian vibe. God Bless on their marquee and loud Christian music blaring in the lobby. The bathtub was extremely weird with the shower head really low. I'm 5'3 and barely fit under it. We also found a used plastic knife in the freezer. The decor is 1980s at the latest, which would be fine except for the sharp edge on the table where the laminate is peeling up. It's the middle of nowhere but I would not willingly stay here again.

    The bed was comfortable.

It's not often I review motels, but I thought Ruby Inn was pretty exceptional. - The bed was very comfortable - Rooms were clean - The towels were folded like Origami figures - The AC was effective on a hot day What more can you want from a roadside motel?

Spent a few nights here. Covid info: -they are currently not doing continental breakfast but will give you coffee -their pool is closed Pros: -Great place if you are coming with your dog. They have a spacious, fenced in, grassy area for dogs. In that space is also a bench and 2-person bench/swing to enjoy. -friendly staff -walking distance to pretty much everything in town -chairs in front of rooms if you want to relax outside -communal grills and seating available -they have maps of what to check out in the area -they allowed us to do a late checkout Cons: -Small pool. More for relaxing than swimming

Bathroom details (really appreciate the swan towels and tissue box bow)

My husband and I decided to visit Mono Lake on Thanksgiving. When we arrived in Bridgeport it was after dark and we were worried that our large dog would make finding a room difficult. -- Thankfully, a simple google search lead us to Ruby Inn where the staff warmly welcomed us, made local recommendations, and allowed our dog to stay for free. Also, the rooms are extremely clean and well maintained! You can definitely tell this family run business takes pride in the details: Coffee maker and grinder, folding the wash cloths into swans, etc.

Friendly staff. Clean room. Thank you.

395 closed. Stuck in Bridgeport like rest of ski team on the way to Mammoth for a race in the morning. Staff at Ruby Inn are friendly and helpful. They genuinely want to help those stranded at Bridgeport. Hotel room is simple but comfortable. Room is clean. Nothing is broken. We really appreciate spending the night there. Next time we are in the neighborhood, will definitely stay here.

    Ruby Inn Best Western Bridgeport

You're in Bridgeport for one of three reasons: 1) You're a fisherwoman or man 2) You're en route to or from Mammoth, Yosemite, Mono Lake, Bodie, or some other Eastern Sierra destination 3) You need a respite from the noise and stress of urban life and TOTALLY WANT TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL. Bridgeport is an interesting historic town, pretty isolated and tiny. Despite its unassuming size, it actually has some interesting historic buildings, and it's fun to use as a base camp to explore the surrounding area. While you're there, the Best Western Ruby Inn is pretty much the best place for lodging in town. Sure, there are a number of other motels or fishing lodges, but of them all, the Ruby has the best beds, biggest rooms, and is the cleanest. Management is friendly, and they keep the place well maintained. For a place so modest and so remote, you'd expect to pay a lot less for your room -- the prices are on the high side for a place like this ($165 for a room with two queen beds). But keep in mind the relative lack of competition, and the fact that Bridgeport's season is limited to May through the end of October, due to severe weather that closes Tioga Pass (the main access to Bridgeport through Yosemite) all winter and into half of the spring. You can always get to Bridgeport via Hwy 395 all year. The town throws a big Fourth of July celebration each year, and has frequent rodeos and fishing festivals. If you stay at the Ruby, be sure to make dinner reservations at Restaurant 1881 right across the street. It is a charming Victorian with a surprisingly complex menu and well executed meals. (Save room for dessert, and be sure to order the Hummingbird Cake!). For breakfast, try the Hays Street Cafe -- enormous pancakes, wonderful cinnamon rolls, excellent omelets! In the motel lobby, grab the map of historic buildings -- you can walk around the town and visit all the sites in about 1-1/2 hours. Lots of cute antique shops, general store, old churches, gold-rush era jail, interesting vintage courthouse. It's like walking back in time. If this motel were anywhere else in more populated areas of the state, I'd give it 3 stars, because it's basic, modest, clean and satisfactory, but nothing special or "wow!" Given that it's the best place in town, hence for what it is, it's at the top of its game, I'm tempted to give it 5 stars. However, because the price is so (relatively) astronomical, it gets 4 big stars.

We stayed for two nights, place is very quiet and the room is very clean. Close to the restaurants. Right in the middle of the town.

We decided to do an overnight to visit Yosemite's high country, the ghost town of Bodie and a few other places along the amazing Highway 395. While in our travels, we've been through Bridgeport several times, and usually stop in town to eat or refuel, we've never stayed in town for a night. I booked the hotel online, which was very convenient. The price was right, and I feel like I got exactly what I expected for my purchase. This location has a lovely park like feel, with single story rooms in the shape of an L around it. It is located right off the main street, and close enough to walk to several food locations. Parking for each room is right outside--which is especially nice. The rooms are modest but clean, with comfortable beds and all that you would need to have a good stay. Some of the furniture was starting to show some wear, but it didn't impact the function or comfort of the space. I really appreciated how friendly everyone at the reception desk was, both in recommending places to grab dinner or breakfast, and also in knowledge about the surrounding areas. The coffee in the morning was also just right.

We were staying up the road and walked down to check out the fish hatchery. After reading about the program we decided we needed to bring our kids to see it. After watching these massive trout swim around for awhile they read that they could feed the fish if they went inside and asked for Jimmy, and I've never seen them move so fast. The nice woman at the host stand hooked them up with food and told them Jimmy was throwing pizzas, but he'd come out to say hi. As it turns out, Jimmy is the owner of the property, the chef, and the hatchery manager too! His passion is infections and it's so obvious he loves this place so much. We enjoyed learning about the property, hatchery and fishery from him, and the kids felt like they'd made a friend for life. There's a restaurant here too and a little play area in the back of the restaurant, making this a great roadside stop. They also have fun accommodations including cabins, covered wagons, and others, all situated with a nice break from the highway. We came back with our younger son and he loved it as much as the older two kids! That visit we enjoyed the restaurant, which I'll review separately.

The quaint, cabin-style setting felt cozy and intimate, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-prepared everything was for my stay. I stayed in a studio-style cabin with a separate room featuring bunk beds, plus a restroom and shower equipped with heating and AC. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, and the cabin stayed warm even when it was 30 degrees outside. If that doesn't charm you enough, just step outside and take in the picturesque rolling mountains--covered in snow this time of year--and appreciate the character and care the owner has put into the property. Customer service was excellent: quick, friendly, and hassle-free. They even gave us supplies to make s'mores, which we enjoyed by our private outdoor fire pit. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations, and I'd love to come back in the spring and summer to enjoy it all over again.

There was a bed, of course, but it wasn't one of those lumpy speed bump mattresses. It was actually very comfortable. I slept quite well during my two night stay. The TV mounted on the wall was small, but it had Directv. I have that at home, so I was familiar with what buttons to push. Only issue was that you couldn't have the door open when watching, as it covered half the TV. I guess that's OK. I should only be watching half as much TV anyway. My room, #22, was very clean. The toilet was sanitized for my protection. The paper seal on the seat assured me of that. I found the seal after having a few beers. I guess that's what it means when you "have to break the seal"! The rest of the room was just fine. The air conditioner worked and it didn't make much noise. I did have an issue with the blinds. For the life of me, I couldn't get the last panel to close properly. It left a space wide enough for stray eyes to look in. A mirror reflected the sight line onto the bed. Which wouldn't be all that bad, but, well, let's just say that because of the way I sleep, it wouldn't be a pretty sight. I hung a towel to mind the gap. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Quick Tip: Every room has magnetic screens to keep our flying friends out. However, those little buggers are fast and will follow you in. The property sits just off HWY 395 with the majority of the sites situated towards the back of the property, beautifully surrounded by the hills. The property and all sites are pristine with small bits of shade provided by adjacent cottonwoods and evergreens, and during our stay we enjoyed a steady breeze that made the temps quite enjoyable. Each night the host creates a community campfire that burns hot and long, bringing everyone together. They provide the wood and Michael tends to it, and they even have the large sticks for roasting marshmallows too. Connecting with people from all over around the fire was the highlight for me! There's also supposed to be stocked trout pond, but it was dry on our visit due to a missing pump that's supposed to be fixed soon. Recreationally that's about it. There aren't any hiking trails accessible from the property nor anything walking distance, that basketball area is located right next to the highway, and the lot is gravel so not ideal for bikes, which is why as family travelers, I'll say the property tries, but this isn't the most ideal.
