We've been going to Bridgeport for July 4 for 15 years and have stayed at Ruby Inn every year. Ruby Inn is hands down the best hotel in town. The rooms are spotless and the owners take incredible pride in the property and in taking care of their guests. The hotel is in the middle of town so all of the restaurants, stores, and rodeo grounds on Main Street are within easy walking distance...which is extremely convenient during July 4 week when the town can be very crowded and parking (especially for the July 4 parade) can be hard to come by. The Ruby Inn is very quiet, very clean, and has first class owners. Recommend very highly when you're traveling to Mono County. read more

Like all motels during peak tourist season it is a little pricey but on par with what is in the area. The room was clean, the staff were friendly and beds comfortable. They had a full range of shampoo/conditioners and soap with TP! They are located close to Bodie which is handy. Great place to stay I would stay here again. read more

Used to be a Best Western and I think one of the few chains located in Bridgeport. Personally seeing familiar logos and whatnot in the middle of nowhere is comforting to me. This is a nice place. Fridge, TV, Wi-Fi. Bathroom could use some more careful cleaning, though. Found some stains along the toilet that I wasn't too fond of. Maybe the maids were having an off day, I dunno. This place is fantastic, if you own a dog! There is a beautiful dog area, with a dedicated pooper scooper and a fish cleaning area. It also has a very nice continental breakfast, and lovely bathrooms. The only reason it is not getting a five star review, is that the room had been saturated in smelly, antibacterial chemicals. I have asthma, and the chemical smell made me feel very ill. I suppose that some people feel that this smells "clean", but it put a bit of a damper on my trip to the eastern sierras for fresh air...... read more

Friendly helpful staff. Very pet friendly, my dogs loved the enclosed grass area. Clean rooms. We will definitely be back. I only wished that that the jacuzzi was located towards the back instead the front, because that view of the snow capped Sierra Nevada is breathtaking! read more

We stayed for two nights, place is very quiet and the room is very clean. Close to the restaurants. Right in the middle of the town.

Quite little set up, No smoking room, and no Pets, so it was quite in the room. Felt bad because the Forest truck parked outside had a dog locked up in the cab. The lady who checked me in was polite and helpful, explained how the town, looked, and little history. Comfy Bed, which is always important. Had mini breakfast in the morning, awaiting hardy travelers. Its hard for me to believe people do not understand, at 0600 in the morning, standing outside someones room, you should use your quite voice, kind of like the Marine blaring his music from his car while he was loading it up to depart. The hotel was awesome, its the patrons that mess it up. The bakery they recommended was another great treat. Thanks if were ever in Bridgeport again, we will stay there. read more

Unlike others that complain about the price ($85) on travelocity and other sites -- I'd give the owners credit for keeping the place open in the dead of winter. Given the place was completely empty, one would have expected the owner to upgrade us from Queen to King at no charge. But no... Bridgeport is a place best avoided: gas stations charging $5.09 where 25 miles away they charge it is at least 50 cents less; 50 police cruisers (I could count at the Sheriff's and CHP parking lots) for 500 residents -- all setting up ridiculous speed traps (thank you radar detector...). read more

The Ruby Inn was a cozy little place that my husband and I stayed at recently (June 2011). The room was immaculate, towels folded into interesting shapes (a swan for one!), kleenex and toilet paper fanned out to look different from the "normal" triangle AND the towels were made in Israel...not China! The staff was very helpful and friendly, answering our questions with suggestions and a smile. We used the very large spa; it wasn't really hot but it was relaxing. We recently fled crowded Mammoth Lakes to this idyllic little spot in the small, old fashioned town of Bridgeport, California. Not a five star luxury hotel, this is a lovely motel of yesteryear with comfortable beds in upgraded rooms which have all the modern amenities. It earns our five stars for comfort, quiet, meticulous cleanliness, kind and obliging hosts, wonderful, friendly staff, and proximity to nature. We stayed a few days and enjoyed Travertine Hot Springs, went to Bodie - what a history! and had a picnic by a gushing waterfall high in the Sonora Pass. Mono and June lakes are a short distance away. We hope to go back in Fall for the colors and another large dose of serenity! read more

The Ruby and is a nice hotel. I wouldn't say it's the best hotel I've ever stayed at however in this small town there's not a huge amount of choices. It's a little bit out of date and remind you of the 1950s. However it is spotlessly clean and surprisingly the breakfast that is served in the morning was very good. It was a little unnerving that the owner of immediately began to defend his prices when we entered the hotel even before we knew what the prices were. However, they did not seem unreasonable to me. I doubt I will ever be through here again but I would recommend this hotel to those who are coming into Bridgeport. read more

My dad and I have been coming to the Bridgeport area for over thirty years for camping and fishing. Due to some recent health changes, we could not camp this time so we decided to try a hotel in town. The Ruby Inn was by far the most expensive of the 3 or 4 that I looked at, but going by the reviews on here and the pictures posted, the Ruby was the obvious choice. The staff was super courteous, easily accommodating our needs for access to the room. The breakfast was especially good, not to mention the cleanliness of the room. Beds were comfortable, restroom area was spotless. Another factor that led me to book this hotel was the patio area with the free use gas grill. We almost always catch some fresh trout, and BBQ-ing at the hotel seemed ideal. We did catch some this trip, but other non-hotel related issues kept us from grilling. For the reviews that mention phrases like 'hotel out of the 1950's', or 'hotel was a little outdated' - they obviously do not know the rich history of this part of California and you cannot expect a Vegas or San Francisco style high rise hotel here. I would definitely highly recommend the Ruby Inn to anyone wanting to stay in Bridgeport. If we end up having to do get a hotel next year, I already know where we'll be staying. Thank you! read more

The Ruby Inn is the absolute best hotel in Bridgeport, which is the most centrally located town from which to stage excursions to Bodie, Yosemite, and myriad great fishing trips. It is a bit pricier than the other hotels in town but no other hotel comes close to being as nice. The owners take great pride in the property and it is meticulously maintained. All rooms have satellite television and wireless. Bridgeport is an extremely remote outpost. The two main routes to Bridgeport from the Bay Area, the Sonora Pass and Tioga Pass are closed half the year due to snow. Because of this most of the businesses in the area only have 5-6 months to earn a profit, hence the cost. The Ruby Inn would be a nice hotel if it were in a major city. In a very small and remote location like Bridgeport, it's a five star resort. read more

I'd stay here again, the place is clean and the staff is very welcoming and nice and knowledgeable about the area. It was cool that they have designated smoking areas even though the hotel is non-smoking. For me thats great because it's getting harder to find hotels with smoking rooms now, and having a place to do it outside rather than having to hide from them is cool. For the price and location within the town, you probably can't do better. The town is very small and everything is within walking distance. The first night we had 2 drunks outside our window, fighting and arguing like only really drunk people will do. As it is a pet friendly place,the previous visitor left their fleas behind. I think I made a good meal because they came home with us. Into the car and also the house,so clean ,clean clean we must do. Other than that we really liked Bridgeport. read more

Reminds me of all the Best Westerns I stayed in growing up as a kid in the 60's and 70's. A light breakfast is included, but no breakfast area. No big deal. Loved our stay at Ruby inn. Went to Bodie for a day trip and stayed in Bridgeport in the evening. Glad we stayed at the best inn in Bridgeport. Very clean and great service. The owner/operators (Steve and Mary) were very nice and gracious hosts. Within walking distance of everything as Bridgeport is a very small town. Had dinner at Rhinos pub and grill and had a great evening in a great town. Highly recommend to everyone wanting to stay. Open all year, and I even noticed that they have an "Adopt a highway" along the south border of Bridgeport. Great people doing a great service for their community. read more

I agree with the other reviews, but it has this neat little coffee machine no body mentioned. It grinds your packet of beans first, then you can fill the filter and get a great cup, much better than the ground packs you normally get. Even the decaf was good. read more

I'll only stay there again again if i can't find somewhere else. Bridgeport is a "nothing" destination. It's a place you stay at when you can't get accommodation at Lee Vining or June Lake, which are much nearer Yosemite and Mono Lake. Nonetheless prices are high. With tax, 2 of us paid $190 for a motel room that was a bit better than "American motel standard". Standard hotel practice is to leave the a/c at a middle setting, if the room is booked. Ruby Inn left the a/c off, and a typical summer daytime temperature is 98 degrees, so the room was like an oven when we arrived. I complained to the freak at the desk (see below), and got a shrug for a reply. The front desk staff were mixed. A very helpful lady, and a freak of a man, who'd obviously worked there a while. The freak did several things that annoyed me greatly. 1) he told us that the room door required 2 hands to operate, one for the door handle, and the other, simultaneously for the key card. Unfortunately, due to an accident, i only have one hand. When i mentioned that i could not get into my room unaided, he just shrugged. This may violate the Americans With Disabilities Act. 2) When we told him that the ethernet jack for internet connection in the room did not work, he said it must be our cable. This was ridiculous. My friend is an IT professional, and uses the cable regularly. 3) He effusively recommended a restaurant for dinner that was an expensive dive (commission?) 4) He told us the restaurant was a mile from the motel. It was almost 2. This may sound minor, but 1 mile from the motel there is nothing. At night there are not even lights, so we thought we had got the directions wrong, and nearly turned back. When i mentioned this point to the freak, I got another shrug, and he said "1 mile, 2 miles, so?". I replied that if there's no difference between 1 and 2, how about giving us a $100 room rate, instead of nearly $200? He didn't think that was funny. read more

We just stayed at the Ruby Inn. If you are expecting a modern hotel with concierge service and up to date furnishings then you probably shouldn't be in Bridgeport! The motel was VERY clean, well maintained and the staff were friendly. They helped with directions and the continental breakfast was nice. The only issue we had was a minor one. We originally were given a room close to the front of the motel. When we closed the door we could here some traffic from 395. I went and asked for a room further from the highway. They did accommodate me and gave us another room but seemed offended and suggested I bring some earplugs if I was such a light sleeper! The staff person? owner? went on to say they had just replaced the windows, implying I was being too sensitive. No matter, we enjoyed our night there and had a great time. And although the wallpaper and tile in the bathroom was out of date, the water pressure and shower head was wonderful! So great after a day of horseback riding! read more
