It was a great place to stay for a fair price. It was cozy and quiet. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was hot. They also provided us with extra pillows. Everything we needed after a long day kayaking and hiking. read more

Comfy bed is about all the positive I have. I think improvement is needed here: -Attention to detail. Adequately stocked rooms. Is tissue too much to ask for? Someone to check batteries in the tv remote? -Courtesy. A kind hello from staff, knocking before attempting to enter rooms which might be occupied. -A working ice machine. People stay here because they fish here. Ice is essential to keep your catch until you leave. -TLC. This place needs some serious sprucing up. It has declined tremendously from times we have stayed here in the past. read more

1) There was trouble by front office with the same card I used thru Expedia. I used a different card after I was roused out of bed and told to come to the front office and then trying to deal with 2 employees that did not speak English and a 3rd that fell just short of making accusations. I immediately pulled out another card and paid the bill in full. I asked they make sure they did not charge me twice yet they did on the first card as well as the second (platinum) card. It took me an hour on the phone to get this cleared up with the credit card companies and Expedia. 2) Outside temperature was between 29 & 35*f during my stay and the wall furnace would not light. Called front desk and they could not get it lit. I was brought a plug in heater plugged into a power strip. Every time the heater turned on it popped the breaker on the power strip. This went on for my 3 night stay as no one returned to take care of the wall heater. 3) On my last day, after fishing all day and returning in the afternoon I laid down to take a nap and was awakened by staff to replace my shower curtain. Sadly, the staff member has never heard of soap and deodorant....Had to open windows and the door to air out. 4) There was a broken down RV on the property, overfilled garbage cans and 3' tall weeds in what used to be beautiful gardens. 5) In talking with locals it appears that many customers complain about the place for a myriad of reasons stemming from owners not being onsite. 6) When answering my negative review in Expedia the owner?, Nick accused me of using a fake credit card and called me a liar. read more

Poor management, full trash cans, never saw them change sheets in rooms people spent the night in. Just a bed making and a caddy to 'freshen' the room up. It was a terrible two nights. @160$ a night it was robbery. Dank and dried bugs dead along the baseboard. yuk. Plenty of motels that have the owners on site in the Sierras. This was not one. I stayed here with family for 5 nights at the beginning of September. This place is right off highway 395 but even though it was so close to the road, it was not loud at all. The room was comfortable with a queen & a twin size bed. The whole place was quaint but had enough room to be comfortable. great customer care here and as a guest I was able to see the value the staff put on the guests that stay here. I would recommend this place to other people I know that may like to stay in this area and would definitely stay here again! read more

Toiyabe Motel - front of motel - Hotels Near Me - Walker, California

The room was mostly clean with a broken cigarette under the chair. The room had no hot water which makes me think next time it would be a lot cheaper to sleep in the car at a rest area. The staff was pleasant and the food close by was great. read more

Toiyabe looks like any roadside highway motel, with log cabin design, but it is so much more! It starts with the friendly hosts. Then the cleanliness, and the peace and quiet of a beautiful setting indoors and out. The room is wood paneled with wood ceiling and rafters. The heater is quiet, the television and the wi fi both work. The bed is comfy, and water is hot, the coffee maker works, with microwave and refrigerator. And drawing the blinds in the morning, shows a beautiful mountain scenery. We took a quick drive up Mill Creek Rd, just up the street, and walked along the rushing stream, filled with winter run off. Perfect short hike! This throwback is the kind of motel that helps reminds us that small, local hospitality still exists and makes a great road trip! read more

Dude, this place is great. Needed a place to break up a long drive from Southern California to Lake Tahoe. The staff was very communicative upon my inquiry of a stay on the eve of 4th of July. They also communicated with me a few days prior to my arrival letting me know their hours and check-in process and about the local restaurants closing at 7pm. When we arrived, we we were warmly greeted before given the key to our room. Although the place may seem "outdated", our room (#9) was super clean. It even had an additional twin bed which was helpful for our family of 3. The room had everything you could need--TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, AC, and hair dryer. The yard area is a pleasant area to relax with plenty of seating. There is also free ice and BBQ pits as well as camping stoves for guests to use. I thought this was a nice and considerate touch. Walker Burger is a convenient walk across the highway from here which we took advantage of. Check out was a breeze, dropping off our key at the front desk, speaking with I think the husband of the owner from the day before. If I am being honest, I wasn't expecting to enjoy our stay as much as I did. It's not for everyone, and I think your review of the place can and will be based on your expectations while traveling--especially if you prefer modernization. I relied on previous reviewers when making a decision and I was not let down. I can appreciate the vintage look and the fact that it was clean. Not to mention, the warm hospitality. Don't overlook Toiyabe! read more

Such weird rude people. We are driving home from Reno and pulled in to this place to change our baby real quick. While I understand I am not a guest of the hotel, it seemed like a safe place to stop for just a 5 minute break. Immediately an older white late comes out and asks if she can help us, I say no we just had to stop for a second for our baby we are headed home to california. She responds very curtly saying this is private property and we need to pull back on the highway. I say I'm sorry and we will be leaving in just a minute. I assume this interaction is over. I very quickly change my son buckle him and get going. As we pull out there is an older white man filming us and flipping us off. I found that to be completely unnecessary and quite strange reaction for an honest mistake which I quickly apologized for. Very odd and uncomfortable. The place had a for sale sign up. Makes sense the couldn't stay in business if that's how you treat passerby's. read more

Cozy, clean, comfortable rooms in a wood cabin style. Fantastic showers. If you hunt or fish there's a courtyard area set up for food prep and grilling. This should be your first choice if you're passing through the area, it's memorable in a good way. read more

Super nice room. Family road trip needed 3 rooms and it was affordable to do so vs sharing rooms. Reasonable rate, super nice service, clean & comfy! Love supporting small businesses and so glad we pulled over! This place is right off HWY 395. Would stay here again if ever in the area. Pulled up to our room, unloaded suitcases and fell fast asleep. Definitely recommend this cute motel! read more

My husband found this cute little cabin style motel while searching lodging online. We both wanted to go to Tahoe, but also be in the middle to exploring the other cities on both sides of the state line. This place was perfect as it was available & more importantly safe & reasonable. Reviews on Yelp says it all. On to the long story...... The husband & wife that run it, assuming they are the owners, were really accommodating and informative- they made you feel at home, answered all you questions about the area and where to go. The gentleman kept mentioning it was not Ritz, but to us, it didn't need to be. Had all the necessities of home. And it appears you can barbecue or cook (there were outlets outside, maybe if you ask the owners & clean up-although It was really cold). But best thing about it to us, it was peaceful, quaint, clean and safe. You have a flat screen w/basic cable, wi-fi, microwave, coffee pot, mini fridge, they were Ok when we told them my daughter came w/us,-unplanned & gave us another room with a twin bed. They were also ok we had a small dog. ($5 fee vs $10 & up the others charge). The room may be small, but don't let that get in the way - it's quite accommodating. Bathroom was larger than average motels. But this is not your typical motel, it was more like mountain lodging. Heater & hot water work very well too. They give you enough towels & paper products. They also do the cleaning themselves-they really take care of the place and for that matter people who stay there visiting. The outside is wide open with bbq grills, and lawn area for dogs, although I felt bad people don't clean up after their dogs, they're so sweet, they appear not to say anything and end up cleaning it up themselves. Areas w/benches to sit at and best part is at night staring at all the stars!! It was Christmas and they had it decorated so cute with country charm. God, did I leave anything out? One thing about the area is that there are a few general stores one of them w/a deli that has food already cooked to purchase. Other than that, I didn't see any thing else open- burger joint across the way is closed for the season & I saw a coffee spot inside another lodging-resort but wasn't sure if they were open or served food. So...there's not much there, you either be okay with that and/or be prepared prior to going there or drive 13 miles to the nearest gas station w/a convenience store and a casino resort that has a cafe & restaurant-both close before or by 10:00 pm, gas station & casino obviously 24 hrs. The next closest city with accessibility (markets, banks, stores etc) is 20 miles in Gardnerville NV. Its all about planning & not getting there too late, because everything shuts down early due to it being off season & a small town. Needless to say, when we first got there w/out eating, we ended up driving the 13 additional miles to Topaz gas station to get something to eat & drink. Yup all about planning. Anyhow- final word, we will be back to visit:) read more

I had this little tiny town motel booked for the night thinking I was going to be able to get out of Southern California in time to be able to drive there and stay the night. I had to call and cancel because there was no way I was going to make it there. They still charged me for the stay with their old policies for cancellation before Covid. And there is no way they needed to rebook the room because they're not even close to full. Note to self. Never stay here in my travels. read more

Loved this place! So quaint and cozy. Looking forward to staying again for the holidays!

I love staying at small, family run hotels and motels because typically they're a lot better maintained, cleaned more thoroughly, and the service is better. The Toiyabe Motel is no exception!! I was greeted by a gentleman and his wife (I am assuming) at the front desk upon checking in. They were both incredibly friendly and we made some good small talk about the area. The room was very clean and had all of the amenities that larger places have. The amenities in the bathroom were very plentiful as well. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was spacious, and the room itself was big enough for the two of us and all of my stuff. We may have had some quiet neighbors, but noise wasn't an issue whatsoever. There was also a beautiful garden out side to enjoy as well. Seriously, this place is an absolute gem. If you're in the area and need a place to rest your head, this is it!! read more

We recently stayed at the Toiyabe Motel on a road trip down Hwy 395. Such a great family run motel. Sam and Linda are great hosts. The room was a classic knotty pine with all the added features such as fridge and microwave. Even tv and WiFi! We initially chose the Toiyabe because the hotels in Bridgeport were more expensive. We were delighted by this little gem of a motel. Clean, economical and friendly. read more

We attended our very first and certainly not our last Eastern Sierra UTV Jamboree. We arrived a few days before the Jamboree started extending our whole stay at Toiyabe Motel to 8 days. The room was very clean and had all of the amenities that larger places have. They provide a really nice BBQ area as well as a room to play cards or visit out of the cold weather. Very beautiful landscaped garden, the grounds were clean. Dog friendly is always a plus (Pirate thanks you both). Plenty of parking for all of our toys. We were very fortunate to have stayed at the Toiyabe Motel. Sam & Linda are now FAMILY FOREVER. read more

This is the right way to run a motor inn. It's how I imagined that they were operated in the 40's and 50's. The rooms are clean and everything worked. Usually WiFi is spotty in these types of inns. WiFi was strong and easy to connect. Probably the highlight of the stay is the warm friendly atmosphere that the owners bring to the place. They were extremely helpful with anything we needed. read more

Have been here twice already and will keep coming back. Great shower, clean room. Rustic look is very cozy and well done. Mini-fridge, complimentary coffee. Cozy outdoor garden/relaxation area (trees to create shade). Apparently great for fishermen too (place to clean out the guts, bbq etc.). Sam and his wife are super friendly and accommodating. The two restaurants in the area (the BBQ place and Walker Burger aren't open very late, so plan your meals accordingly if you're travel from afar). The breakfast place right nextdoor is family-run, reasonably priced, and will leave your tummy satisfied. read more

The owners, Sam and Linda not only have a wonderful, quiet and super clean motel, but they are gracious hosts. My husband and I stopped here after I spent the day in the emergency room in Carson City. Unexpectedly stopped in for a night at Toiyabe Motel and were immediately charmed by the coziness of the rooms & property and the incredible hospitality of owners George and Kathy. As long as you're not expecting the Ritz Carlton you'll be pleased here. Check-in was a breeze. The man behind the desk was really pleasant and very helpful. I explained my schedule for the next day and he did his best to help identify the best place to get breakfast. The room was clean and the AC worked great. Everything seemed well-maintained, nothing run down. Check-out was even easier than check-in. The place is spotless, the service top notch. The only thing I suggest is if there's three or more in your party, book two rooms, as the rooms are very small. They allow dogs and only charge $5 as opposed to other places $10. The owners are absolute sweethearts. read more

Terrible!! Huge difference between air conditioned (Not this place!!) And rooms "cooled" with ancient swamp coolers....I'm not into breathing mold...wet carpet from swamp cooler + hot summer day= NASTY!! This is a good little motel just off of 395. If you need a place to rest, feel like you just can't quite make it into Reno or want to stay somewhere a little cheaper before getting into Reno, this is definitely a good place. Despite being right next to 395 you don't get a lot of road noise. The rooms are clean, maybe a bit small. The interiors are very cool, they remind me of a cabin. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. They do allow most pets. They also provide a second key no problem. There are a couple places to eat within walking distance, but both close by 7pm. I plan on coming back this way again, and will definitely stay here. read more

Clean, quiet, roomy, inexpensive. Very friendly owners. I wasn't crazy about the memory foam pillows at first, but by morning they felt just right. The Toiyabe was much cheaper than Bridgeport, Lee Vining or Mammoth hotels; and nicer than similarly priced hotels in Minden/Gardnerville, so I'll probably be back. Just be aware that there aren't many services in town, especially in winter. But Linda was careful to let me know the options when I booked the room. read more

The Toiyabe is a wonderfully friendly place to be. The accommodations are comfortable with good clean rooms with a knotty pine style. The big plus are the new owners, George and Kathy, they go out of their way to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay. George also had some good tips on where to fish and what bait to use. We really enjoyed our stay. read more

My brother and I stayed at this motel for one night on 10/09/2017, travelling from Klamath Falls, OR to Yosemite National Park. The room was very clean, and had all the necessities. The temperature outside at night was below freezing. I woke up at 2:30 AM and the room was very cold. I kept trying to increase the temperature in the room via the thermostat, but no heat came out from the heater. My brother tried calling the managers a couple of times between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM, but no one answered. We both bundled up in our outdoor coats and hats to keep warm. Finally, at 6:00 AM, the manager was contacted and he came over right away. He checked the wall heater unit and the thermostat, and determined that the thermostat was broken and needed to be replaced. Since daylight was starting, my brother and I checked out when the manager went back to his office. We both thought the manager would offer us some sort of compensation for our inconvenience. When he did not, my brother told him he thought some compensation was due us. The manager handed my brother a $10 bill. Neither of us thought that was adequate, but we headed on our way to Yosemite. read more
