Drove across town a couple of weeks ago to pickup a part I needed for racing the next day, pulled into the parking lot, parked in front of West Marine, walked up to the door as a young woman was locking the door in front of me at exactly 6pm. Been a customer for over 30 years. It is obvious that competition from online sellers has really hurt their sales volume. It is amazing how many people think they should maintain a brick and mortar store and still have the cheapest prices. Sometimes they have what I need in stock, sometimes they have to order it in for me and sometimes I order it online from some place else. read more

Drove 3 hours to the Worst Marine in Phoenix to pick up a $1600 Isotherm refrigerator only to find it had been smashed and severely damaged during shipping. The box had been opened. No WM staff called to notify me the unit was damaged despite it being at the Phoenix store (right next to the cash registers) for 8 days. Come to find out Isotherm PALLETIZES all fridges for shipment. This one was not palletized or secured in any way. This shipment was made without ANY care whatsoever as to the protection of the fridge... or the customer. Refused delivery of the fridge, got a refund and bought from another supplier with great service and palletized products! BTW, Worst Marine no longer offers customers a way to actually speak with another human being (no phone access). Instead you get to "chat" with someone (?) after waiting for 30 minutes -- and only for a few hours each day -- only to learn they "can't help you". Shame. read more

Ah, West Marine. I've had such a love-hate relationship with this company for a very long time. On the love side, when you really need some supplies for your boat, they are the only ones open all weekend and evenings. They also have a pretty well-rounded inventory in general, where a lot of other boat shops have specific things they stock, leading to multiple trips if you need a variety of things. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and most of them are very familiar with boats (though they tend to be more about sailing than power boats). If you have questions on how to do something, odds are that they can help with ideas and product selection. On the not-so-lovely side, the WM stores have terrible inventory management. I don't know how many times I've needed something basic and they are out of stock. Or they stock only one item of something important, but many boats have two engines and need two of the same part when you do maintenance. And the prices...ugh... Often above retail, and many times 2x the online price. Sure, they will price match Amazon and some other online stores, but who wants the hassle? Many other local boat shops also beat their prices by a good margin, but again, then you may have to go to multiple stores to get it all. Consequently I only go to WM if I'm desperate for a part today, and Amazon doesn't have it available for same-day delivery. read more

This was the WORST customer service experience I have EVER had!!!!! I have wasted hours and hours and spoke to store and online employees and supervisors (Heather, BC, Kalyan, Carl, Branden , Kelly, Karen, & Scott-their supervisor along with several others before I started keeping track) and have gotten less then satisfactory information, have wasted hours and hours of my time, and still not received or gotten adequate information with regards to an order I placed months ago. 6 weeks later nobody knows whether my order has shipped or why it hasn't arrived and after 6 weeks, now they're telling me they can 'send an email to their distributor center and it'll take 48hours for a response and even though today is Friday and they said 48 hours from now will have a response which will be Tuesday???? [not sure what world they're living in. It must be a nice one though not caring about anything or anyone, taking zero responsibility and not having any concerns about how their mistakes affect others]. If I could give them zero stars I would. I could go on and on at what a terrible, disorganized, rude, uncaring, irresponsible business this is! They make empty promises and have zero follow up. I'm even more upset with myself for believing them every time they tell me my product is on its way when it has NEVER even shipped. They have stolen time I will never get back and given me so much frustration I probably need my blood pressure medicine dose doubled after dealing with them. I can not convey how terrible my whole experience with West Marine has been. Worst business I have ever dealt with! Don't believe anything they tell you. We hit up this store way more often than we'd like to. But it's a necessary evil when you have a boat, and the lack of foresight to order your supplies online. The prices are a little high, but they're pretty much the only game in town. Plus their staff is very nice and helpful. You can also pick up a Tonto pass here before you head to the lake, and save yourself a stop. read more

I seriously just called this place and spoke to a guy named Rob to see if I could swing by with a new-to-me outboard engine that I just got and...I kid you not...he said that they don't have anyone there that knows about outbard engines. They sell them, right? Why would I want to buy something from someone who doesn't know anything about them??? They suck they sell cheap stuff it would be better to pick up what you need at the junkyard. a bought a paddle board for $1,100!!!! That's not cheap, but I guess they won't care, because they'll sell you a broken one. They ruined my vacation and my day when I looked at the board and it was cracked. Not a little a lot. Same with the fin slot. It would have been a lot better to buy it off of craigslist. For less money and in a better condition. read more
