    French onion soup

Great spot the food is delicious. Staff is great! We usually sit in the bar area- had the French onion soup again which is my fave here!

Plenty of TVs and the bartenders will put your game on.

Fast service, friendly, and great food. Everyone from bartenders, waiters and kitchen seems proud of the food they serve. You ask what's good and they say "everything. It's all good." Nothing is half asked, they do a really nice job. It's not fancy, but it's really good pub food. Whether you get a salad, salmon, burger, wings... it all meets or exceeds expectations. Bar is friendly with a changing tap selection and lots of TVs to put on any game you're interested in. I wish the bar was larger, but I do seem to always be able to get a seat. If you're at a high top, though, you get the same attentive service. I drove past this for a while before stopping in because it's kind of an odd looking place and I wasn't sure what to expect... but it's great. Go. It's now in the regular rotation for me.

I had to review West End Grill because Monica was the best. Such a good bartender, and gave great recommendations. Thai chili wings, salmon over-top of a bed of white rice, mixed with squash and zucchini and asparagus, crab dip on the side, and tator tots - oh em gee *all pictured** The wings were also good, crunchy. In a good way. Monica's strawberry margaritas were great too! Thank you to her for a great experience.

I was in the area and decided to stop at a local establishment before heading back home and stumble across this spot! I'm glad I did. The service, food, and atmosphere were a whole vibe. My waiter explained the menu and the drink I was interested in thoroughly and even made suggestions as this was my first time here. Appetizer: jalapeño poppers that had chicken in them. They were different, but delicious, especially with the dipping sauce. Entree: Franco-Irish Dip. Also delicious, the Irish onion dip sauce was excellent and flavorful. I had their cider to drink and it was satisfying as well. I recommend this place especially if you want to come here to watch your favorite game. They have an ample amount of bar seating with big-screen TV's everywhere.

All the outdoor seating was full, and inside there was only one table available. Most of the tables are larger, so we noticed some groups sharing space, which actually worked out fine. The restaurant has a great open-air feel even indoors thanks to the large garage-style door that opens up an entire wall. For drinks, my wife ordered iced tea and I had a Peach Mule. The mule was good, but next time I'd skip the rim garnish. They also have a big beer selection, and the prices seemed very reasonable. For food, we ordered the brisket burger (single patty with cheese, topped with shaved brisket, jalapeño slaw, raw onion, pickles, and sauce). They offer a deal where you can add a side and drink for $5, so we added onion rings and also ordered the Serpent Fries as an appetizer. The fries came out first and looked great and they did not disappoint. Fresh cut with bacon, pico, scallions, and a serpent sauce (seemed like a beer cheese). Really flavorful, I did ask for ranch, which was an extra $0.50. I understand charging for extras, but not everyone uses ketchup or mustard, so that felt a little unnecessary. The burger came out shortly after, and it was excellent. We split it, and it was packed with flavor. Honestly, adding bacon would make it even better a "Triple B" (Bacon, Brisket, Burger) would be perfect. The only letdown was the onion rings. The onions inside were very thin and overcooked, leaving them dried out with little flavor. Even without the over-frying, the onions themselves just didn't have much taste. Definitely something they could improve. Overall, it's a great spot for burgers and fries, and we'll definitely be back for that. We saw other dishes come out that looked good too, so there's more to try next time.

Also, the decor is great and the tap line is long. Aside from RAR beers there are a few rotating handles with beer from "guest" breweries. But no need to venture out to guest brews, RAR has great selections. If you're not a beer drinker they also have spirits and seltzers. I'm not sure about wine but I suspect they have a few options. Foood selections are comforting and simple - mostly burgers, wings, fries, tots and salads. For slightly more special options they have a brisket burger, crab dip and a few other tantalizing selections. I'll gladly work my way through the whole menu. I love that they brand Chessie into the buns. So cute! Chessie's has bar seating and lots of community tables so introverts be aware. When the weather is nice they have a great patio. To relive the memories of this great neighborhood bar, they sell merch and canned beer.

I started with the steak wedge salad, which was really tasty--the bacon had a slightly sweet flavor that stood out and complemented the dish nicely. For my entrée, I went with the tomahawk pork chop and a loaded baked potato. The pork chop was cooked well and had great flavor overall, though it leaned just slightly on the salty side. Still very enjoyable, especially paired with the potato. Where things really took off was dessert. Our table ordered a few to share--the brownie, chocolate cake, and crème brûlée cheesecake. The brownie was easily my favorite: rich, soft, and topped with caramel sauce alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Definitely the standout of the night. Service from Eli was good--friendly and helpful. I would have appreciated a bit more check-ins throughout the meal, but nothing that took away from the experience. Overall, a solid visit with great flavors and a few standout dishes. I'd definitely come back, especially for that brownie.

During a visit about a over a month ago, I observed an interaction between a manager and an employee that felt uncomfortable to witness. From a customer perspective, the tone came across as harsh and seemed more appropriate for a private conversation rather than one happening in front of staff and guests. On a more recent visit, I became concerned after overhearing multiple staff members discussing cleanliness-related issues while I was dining. As a customer, hearing those types of conversations during a meal was unsettling and raised concerns for me about overall food safety and sanitation. I want to be clear that I am only sharing what I personally experienced and overheard during my visits. However, as someone with severe allergies, trust in food handling and cleanliness is extremely important to me, and these experiences made me uncomfortable. Because of this, I felt it was appropriate to bring these concerns to the attention of the appropriate authorities so they can be properly reviewed. I hope management takes the opportunity to evaluate both customer experience and internal practices moving forward, as both staff and guests deserve a safe and respectful environment.

This time, in April 2025, we arrived around 7pm, and found parking in a garage about a block away, though with better timing we might have parked right out front on West St. This was intentionally a little early for their 8pm live show, and we found a table in the front window, with fun people-watching, and walls lined with a gallery of local artists' works. One of the regulars suggested their generous creative 49 West Salad of fresh greens, cucumbers, tomato, and red onion, with blueberries, apples, almonds, and gorgonzola cheese! An exciting flavor experience! They also, steered us right on 49's Reuben sandwich, with traditional house-made tender juicy corned-beef and melted swiss, with house-made Russian sauce on soft marble rye, with the sauerkraut substituted at my request by house-made creamy cole-slaw. A rich delicious messy sandwich! And well-made drinks: a refreshing lemony minty fizzy Mizuwari with Baraky Japanese whiskey, and their Old Fashion 49 which includes some orange-y Grand Marnier. Both were creative strong and flavorsome takes on classics. Of course they also have a broad ranging menu, especially after 5pm. When the back room opened, we sipped our drinks (and got refills :-) while swaying to one of our favorite musicians, Tom Mitchell, playing this evening with Jim Stephanson as the talented and versatile Blue Rhythm Boys: Jazz, Western Swing, Blues and more, for a $15 cover. It was fun to hear them riff off classics and off of each other, mixing in stories and reminiscences, and this evening sweetly dedicating some to a friend's 75th (more or less) birthday. You just feel at home with them, and we do seek out Tom's performances, and then seek out his fellow musicians next gigs, too, as far off as Columbia and Rockville! A wonderful relaxing evening, with friendly efficient staff, good food, nice locals, and great music.
