West Auto Sales I have been searching for a vehicle in a particular trim-level that that Al had for reasonable price while I was searching throughout the state. I gave Al a phone call about this vehicle on a Friday afternoon and immediately flew up the following morning from the LA area to check it out along with a test drive. The transactional process took a bit of time as this was a small business but the coolest part was being able to pay for it all via credit card! Al and his wife (plus their dog) were friendly to work with throughout the purchasing process and if any taxes/fees were miscalculated on the dealer application that they use, he would write a return check for the difference (which was my case) along with shipping the new license plates. Overall, I've been happy with my purchase and the vehicle has been running well over the past few months. Would recommend this place if he has a vehicle to your interest! read more

Very bad experience just trying to get information over the phone & thru their website, decided to no longer consider the SLK 280 from this location. They claim free CarFax reports are available on their website, but there is no link or PDF; asking for the link got a reply on how everyone else has no problem viewing them - really? I tried disabling AdBlock, switching to Chrome from Firefox, searching with Ctrl-F ... not that their site is so advanced that there should be any browser based issues, its a fairly simple if text heavy description page. Calling to ask questions on maintenance history, was pointed to this non-existent CarFax link. Fine, I don't expect owner/salesman to understand technical details. But they couldn't even answer me about the color scheme (website says interior is black, photos show white/beige color), which should be obvious if they have seen their own car - and its the only convertible for sale among 7 available cars, not like this is a huge lot where you can't keep track of each one. I had read other reviews of issues with asking for PPI and getting a total price estimate, which I hoped not to run into. But I didn't even get to that point instead! Maybe they have better behavior for in-person visits, just don't expect useful inquiry over the phone (or contact form, where I asked for the CarFax link and didn't get any response either). read more

Over the past three years, I have purchased five cars from Ali at West Auto Sales (2007 Jeep Liberty, 2007 Lexus 350ES, 2003 BMW, 1995 Acura Integra, 2001 Lexus LS 430) to keep up with wife, myself and 18 year old daughter needs/accidents. While all of these cars are older, Ali knows his business and how to find the "cherry cars" both mechanically and with the interior/exterior condition. His prices will fit anyone's budget and are "big value" for what you get. I have gotten to know Ali and he is a very honest stand-up person. I'll try and make a #tldr story short. We had a very good experience buying a replacement car for our daughter. Her first car got totaled by someone not paying attention at a red light. Al and his wife are delightful people. We probably could have ordered in food and sat there talking with them all evening. Once we settled on the price (heh, his price...and it is fair. It was on the higher end of KBB but the car was in good shape...and it's nice to not always have to haggle for a car), things went quickly. I could tell stories of cash price purchases where we were stuck at the dealership for another 90 minutes. But I promised to keep this short. The business may be a wee bit not quick to find. I did a quick park on the right because we realized we were there. It's close to Ralston but the next light up is no U turn...so yeah, we did the quick U turn at the next intersection. The car we wanted to see was in very good shape. It was easy for hubby and daughter to take it out on a long test drive. I sat there reading and chatting with Al, and then got to meet his wife. We went to go look at a few other cars that we had appointments for. But dear daughter really wanted the 2007 Honda Pilot. So back up the Penninsula we went. We dropped it off at the Wheel Works near our house and were told that it needed bushings, two new tires, and the brake fluid flushed. Which we gladly did. The brakes were in great shape as were the other major components. At some point this summer, we'll do the struts and shocks. But for $1700, we were able to upgrade my daughter's Corolla to a Pilot. And it was painless. We were able to make a deal with people we liked. And honestly, we'd do business with them again. They haven't been in that location for 17 years for nothing. read more

DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM. Buying a used car is not a joy ride, and everyone knows it. They made it worse more that it is already. I dont even want to give not even 1 star. This small dealership is SUPER WEIRD. I came upon 2004 Grand Cherokee that has 74K miles on it that I would like to buy. I test drove it, and interested, both my husband and I. The price is very good compared to other similar vehicles. Believe me, we browsed around everywhere, Craigslist, Cars.com, carsforsale.com, autotrader etc. We certainly need to have the bank involved,.... who has that much of cash nowadays anyway? The think is we need the car kind of dsperately. The good news is that the bank APPROVED us. So, I called them back, have the purchase agreement faxed to us (the bank has to see them, so they could write a check for them, right),.... which is pretty routine,... but with them, west auto sales, was not as easy as it seems. We talked on the phone after I received the agreement, it was late afternoon, and I said that I would go the bank tomorrow, get the check and go to your place. He said ok. So that night I looked around for mechanics around their place in Belmont to have the car inspected. I got it. And in the morning, I called the delaer and asked about their policy for prepurchase auto inspection. THAT'S WHEN THEY STARTED TO BE VERY FLAKY. On the agreement they faxed to us, he put the date 2/19/09. But then when we are ready to come and buy and inspect the car, they start to back off and told me that we have to wait until next Tuesday. ?????????????????????????????????? He told me that he needs to go to Sacramento for aution. WHAT ?????? Dont they need money? isn't weird that a customer is ready to buy the car, and they told us to wait ????? I think any dealership, especially small one like them, would hold of their schedule to go anywhere, when they knew that they will get money as much as 9000 dollars !!! CASH !!!! There must be something wrong with the car,. because when we told him that we are going to inspec the car, they back off. He even give me such an attitude, like asking me on the phone "why are you pushing me about going to inspect the car today, mam?" that's exactly what he said. And then he said "I need to go to Sacramento, go to auction, we are a small dealership, someone has to go to do this" And I said "well, mister, I have my own agenda and schedule in my life too, I need to buy the car". And then he said that I should have told him that we want to inspect the car after the purchase agreement faxed. Which is indirectly I did say that to him, (check above), that I will go to the bank, get the check and come to your place. I did not mention exactly that we are going to inspect the car, but IT WILL BE CRAZY OF ME NOT TO, Isn't it ???? That's just routine thing to do. He even put the date on the agreement 2/19/09 !! Geezz.... They are just really SUCH A WASTE OF TIME !!!! Buying a used car is really not a joy ride. And they just made it a lot worse that it is already. Especially in this economy crisis. Well, I read the three other reviews here, and got the idea that they might not want me to have a car inspected if I was interested in buying it. So I gave them a call, and asked if I could have the car I was interested in inspected before I buy it. And the man at West Auto Sales told me that I could only "bring my mechanic to the lot." RED FLAG! If you ask any reputable mechanic OR car salesperson, they will tell you that not only is it your absolute right to have the car inspected correctly before you buy it, but that they need to bring it to a garage where they have all the tools to inspect it properly. For this reason, I will not go look at any car on this lot, and I would warn anyone against a lot that doesn't WANT you to have their cars inspected at an auto shop! read more

Of all the used car lots in the area, this is the one that my then boyfriend decided to buy at. The small little lot with about 12 cars max. My boyfriend had just graduated college and had scrounged up enough money to buy a little used car. This lot actually had 2 Japanese made sedans with decent mileage and age. Because my boyfriend didn't have the full amount at the time, with a large down payment of what he did have, the dealer also gave him a very short term in house loan. They made an agreement to pay the full price of the car in about 3 months. This purchase was in 2007. It was a 1999 Nissan Altima. I worked great for us for years. We ended up selling it to a friend in 2010. We are in 2013 right now, and it is still running great for her. Buddy, the dealership dog is very friendly. The dealer asked ahead of time if we were ok with dogs, but luckily we're animal lovers. I also found out that my friend bought her car that this place too, in 2008 or 2009. It wasn't the greatest car, but she had a great experience and was able to purchase a car with the amount of money she had. 4 years later, it was time for that same friend to buy another car. We checked used car lots up and down the peninsula getting turned down or offered high rates by other places. We found ourselves back at West Auto Sales. The same dealer and his dog were there and gave us the same great service. We found a car that would work for her and he worked with her budget and helped us out again. All the cars here have decent mileage and look like they will last a long time. Our old Nissan is still running just fine! read more

Dealer would not give me a straight answer on "out the door price" before I took a test drive. Found a car I liked on craigslist and emailed asking the total out the door price. Dealer responded with a generalize 10% over asking and to come take a test drive. I replied asking for a specific price then I got a response that included the total price but missing smog fee. So, then I called and it got worse. 5 minutes into the call and I still could not get a straight price from the Dealer. Instead he insulted me telling a me a $50 smog fee is insignificant and no one has ever asked the questions, then he does not want to sell me the car. Just shady... read more

I was interested in a 2002 volkswagen golf. Went to test drive it, and during the test drive, I hear a consistent squeaking noise coming from the car. My girlfriend was watching me test drive on the side of the road and said she heard a squeaking noise coming from the car as well. I ask him what the problem with the car was, and he initially denied any such thing.. So, I told him to come with me during the test drive (as the initial test drive was by myself) and again, there was the squeaking noise. He dismissed it as wind noise (when it clearly was not) and that his mechanic checked on it, and guaranteed it was mechanically strong. During this time, I started to think this guy was sketchy. I decide not to think much of it tho, and ask if he accepts trade-ins. He says yes, and test drives my car. After he test drives my car, he says that there is engine noise from my car. LOL. My girlfriend and I look at each other because THERE IS NO ENGINE NOISE FROM MY CAR WHATSOEVER. I felt disrespected, but again, I shrug that off. The next day, I tell him I want a 3rd party mechanic to check on it, and he approves, and when I tell him the name of a mechanic shop that was 5 mins from his lot, he says "not that one, I don't do business with them there." Again, my gf and I look at each other and wonder what this guy's deal is. What could be a reason to not let me pay my own money to have a prepurchase inspection done to a car that I am going to buy? The shop that I was looking into seemed legit and had really good ratings. I go back home, and the next day I pick another shop and and I give him a phone call: "I picked another shop, and since you had your mechanic check on it and you ensured me the volkswagen is mechanically strong, if I get the prepurchase inspection done, and there is anything mechanically wrong with the car, I want the cost of the fix to be taken out of the price of the car." His response? "No, it does not work that way, you cannot do that, please don't come", and he abruptly ends the phone call. This guy is sketchy, not to mention rude. Dont do business here. I am a very satisfied customer! I have purchased two vehicles from West Auto Sales. The first purchase was a nice truck bought in 2009 for my son. The vehicle was in amazingly good condition, and the price was incredible. We've been driving it daily ever since, and have had no issues whatsoever. Just last week, I finished purchasing a second vehicle from West Auto Sales! I had such a wonderful experience the first time, I went directly to West Auto Sales again to look for a car for my other son. Al remembered me from the previous purchase, and he and his wife greeted me like an old friend. This purchase experience was better than the last! I bought a Nissan Altima. I put down a cash deposit on the car, and came back a few days later to finalize the transaction. Al and his wife Sola were there to answer any questions we had, and even offered some creative financing. They held the car for me until I returned to purchase. I like this place for a number of reasons: 1) they don't give you the hard sell, or follow you around the lot like a stalker. 2) they have lower prices than their competitors 3) they are forthcoming with the carfax report 4) creative financing 5) family run business 6) for a small lot, they have a good variety of choices We love both of our purchases, and had excellent customer service experiences. I plan to return to West Auto Sales next year when it's time to purchase a new car for my daughter! West Auto Sales has great prices; much lower than others in the area. We bought a car from Al after arriving in CA from Australia - a 04 Subaru Forester. It had low KMs for a car in our price range, and was in good condition for an 8 year old car. After 7 months here, personal reasons mean that we're moving back to Australia, and Al agreed to buy the car back from us. He was really accommodating, and we had the car nearly up until the day we're flying back out. He even dropped me at the bank so that I could bank the check immediately. I can definitely recommend buying a car from Al - I'm surprised that there are negative reviews on here. I am reasonably comfortable with mechanical stuff (older cars are a hobby) so felt comfortable checking the car myself before purchasing, and servicing it. I would recommend getting any second hand car mechanic checked if you're not comfortable however - when cars hit that 8-10 years old mark, they can vary a great deal depending on how they have been treated. read more

I purchased a car from West Auto Sales about 3 months ago, and my experience was pretty good. Al, the owner, didn't pressure me at all, showed me all documentation of repairs for the vehicle and the carfax. I felt like he was very upfront. The selection was small, but all the vehicles seemed to be in good shape, and they had what I had been looking for in particular. The vehicle was in great condition and the price was significantly lower than other equivalents on the market. This worried me, but I was told it was because it was a small car lot with minimal overhead. Made sense. I still wanted to take the vehicle to my mechanic. I didn't have a problem taking the car for a test drive or to my mechanic. My mechanic, which I have been going to for years, said the car was in good shape and mechanically sound, and gave me the ok. The only problem was the driver front-side tire had some kind of "dent" in the sidewall. I brought this to the attention to Al and he deducted the price of new tires of similar value and quality (roughly $400). The transaction was quick and painless. The car still runs great, and I havn't had a problem yet. This was a 1995 Subaru Legacy wagon. Definitely would recommend. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS CAR LOT!!!!! BIG MISTAKE IF YOU DO. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. LEMON LOT INDEED!!!! I purchased my first car ever from Al at West Auto Sales, and all I can say is it was a huge mistake. The office is dirty and they their dog running around while you are trying to conduct business. To put it plainly in my opinion, Al is a liar and cheat. My mistake other than going to him in the first place, was to not have the car pre-inspected. My fault entirely. To begin with, Al was very reluctant to show the CarFax and finally did after asking for it over and over. He claims it was not a law to have to provide one. While dealing with him we had settled on a price. It took a day to get financing and when the paperwork finally came in, the price was $500 more than agreed. Al claimed it was me who misunderstood. I was so excited about getting the car that i let it go. Again, my mistake. I knew he was wrong but I did not challenge it. So, with that said, the same night I drove off in the car, a loud noise starts squeeling. Since it went away I felt it was just the brakes. One month later I am in need of very expensive repairs and the mechanic found several problems that were jerry rigged to keep the car running. Parts taped together and signs of trying to stop leaks. When I brought this to Al's attention he was distant and claimed to not know of any problems. This dealership should be ashamed of the way they conduct business. Stay away or risk buying a lemon. Always have the car pre-inspected. Shame on Al. read more

We were getting the car checked out by the lots' mechanic and were to return the next day to sign papers. When we returned the next day he had sold it to his mechanic because he offered a higher price. Shame on him. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THIS PLACE!!! LEMON LOT... I made the mistake of buying a car from here without having it inspected by a third party...( I know, big no-no... my fault) Anyways this is what happened. I was in needed a car by the end of the week so I went in there and looked at a Pathfinder. The car sounded good, it was clean, the price was good yaddayadda... I bought the car and drove it home. On the way home I noticed bad gas mileage. I thought maybe I wasn't used to the touchy gas pedal..Wrong! three days later I get a check engine light on. I run the code on a car code scanner and get a code for the catalytic converter. I call him and he acts all suprised. he says to take it to his shop and they will look at it. He is very adamant that it is probably the o2 sensor and not the Catalytic converter and his shop will check it out. I already don't trust him at this point but I take it to HIS mechanic anyways. 2nd mistake! BIG SUPRISE! The shop says its the o2 sensor (even though o2 sensors have their own code) its all fixed don't worry all taken care of. Wanting to believe them because I don't want to buy a 800 dollar catalytic converter, I pick up the car and drive it home. 2 days later, the light is back on. I call Al back to tell him...again, he acts all surprised...His response, "unfortunately I have helped you all that I can there's nothing else for me to do. sorry." Result: I bought a car that is going to require an extra 600-900 dollars of work on it. The carfax report says it failed emissions on December of 09 and they just smogged it on April of 2010 ( a couple weeks after I bought the car) Not surprisingly, the shop that performed the inspection and smogged the car is the same shop he had me take it to after my light came on. I have been told by several mechanics that he and the shop he takes it to probably knew about the bad catalytic converter and all they had to do was clear the code and smog it immediately and the car would pass. 3days after I buy the car, the light comes on. Coincidentally it takes about a 2-3 day cycle for a trouble code to re-appear after it has been cleared if the problem has not been fixed. There are too many factors that coincide for this to be all one big coincidence. I know that there are many things that I could have and should have done to prevent this but the main point is he and his shop he deals with (Bel-Mateo auto repair) are not honest people and have no problems screwing you over. BOTTOM LINE-- GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CAR LOTS IN THE BAY AREA... DO NOT GO TO THIS ONE read more

Red Flag! I wouldn't advise my worst enemy to go to this dealership. First off, they are scam artists.. West Auto Sales is nothing more than a beat up house with 10 cars in front. Family owned by an Iranian family. Speak fine english.. ok, so I was a first time buyer struggling to get approved for a car loan. I was driving one and I happened to see a Chevy s10 at this dealership. After all my terrible luck I still managed to get approved here. I test drove the truck and everything seemed fine.. Expect for when I popped the hood it was a little hotter than normal, but the gauge sayed the temperature is fine, So I thought nothing of it. Car shook a little after every stop . And the radio didn't work. When I asked Ali about the radio he continued to avoid my question.. and at one point he said "ill Give you discount on the price of the car" .. Keep in mind they already know I'm low on funds because I told them.. they even let me pay a portion of my down payment and the rest the next month..I spent a lot of time in their office. So when the day comes for me to buy the car of course I'm a little excited, we finish all the paperwork. AND THIS IS WHEN ALI STARTS TO ACT REAL SHADY. AFTER I give him all my cash and the deal is done, he tells me he's gonna take me to fill my tank. When I go to get in the truck to leave,he tells me the driver door doesnt shut sometimes, and then proceeds to get in himself. He starts her up and rolls the window down.. Why did he need to roll the window down?? We drive to the gas station, and as I'm sitting at a red light I start to realize the temperature gauge rising QUICK. So we get to the gas station and he goes up to slide his card for gas, I tell him there's already 3 quarters of a tank. He replies with "oh on chevys sometimes the gas gauge doesnt work, sometimes this one doesnt work". And he tells me if I dont put the gas cap tight enough the check engine lighy goes on... Right then I'm thinking: why didn't you tell me this before? I did ask him, and he replied "I dont jip people, this car is fine". He obviously knew something was wrong because when I kept asking him why he didn't tell me this, he slammed the car door in my face and said "call me". Luckily I got my money a couple hours later.. The people there in the "office" are a husband and wife that work together to take peoples money for piece of crap auction cars.. This place preys on people that are first time buyers, and people with bad credit. Because they know if they get you approved you'll buy a car from them! And trust me, they'll find a way to approve you, just to take your money and leave you with no car. read more

I was looking to purchase a small used pickup when I discovered exactly what I wanted on my internet search. The vehicle description , photos and video made me inquire as to the availability. This is how I came to be aware of West Auto Sales. Frankly I was a little suspect of a small used car lot as pictured on the internet thinking it might just another used car lot just out to make a fast buck at the risk of the next person to stop in. Boy was I wrong! Al, the owner, could not have been any more forthcoming and helpful with my purchase. When I contacted him I told him I could not get there till the following week. He agreed to hold the vehicle with a $500.00 deposit till I could make arrangements to fly down there. Upon arrival at SFO he would not let me get a cab but came to pick me up with my wheelchair and luggage in the truck I was going to by. The truck was very impressive and worked perfectly. He demonstrated all the features on the way back to his lot. I knew I had made the right decision. I told him I was going to leave right away to go back home. His only concern was get the paper work done fast enough to beat the afternoon traffic jam so I could get back without traffic delays. While his efforts were valiant, 2:30 PM was not early enough. I could not believe how nice Al was. It was like a long time friend selling me a truck, with his only concern being my well being and safe return. He asked me to call him when I got back home to make sure everything went well. The following morning I called to let him know that I arrived at 11:00 AM with absolutely no problems with the truck and very pleased with the performance of the truck for the 812 mile trip. This man bent over backwards to take care of me and I consider him to be a new found friend. While I'm not likely purchase another vehicle in the bay area, I certainly would return to his lot if the need ever rose to the occasion. He does not fit the stereotypical profile of a used car salesman. I certainly thank him for helping me make my purchase and would recommend him to anyone read more
