Roasted Boneless Pork Chop
Ben L.

Really solid neighborhood joint. I first heard of this place featured from an episode on Eater with George Motz saying he loved coming here, funny enough the day I went, which was 1/24/26, George was eating dinner at the bar. It's a cute place, nothing fancy but a place you really can come hang out any day of the week. If I lived in the area I could see my myself ending up here any day of the week. I guess that's why when I went with fellow Yelper Sara L she said she has gone many times and wanted to take me since she knew I would enjoy it. The food: Gebackene Champignons- Fried Mushrooms- OK to preface they are kinda plain and boring the first few pieces. But the more I ate it the more I was like wow, these are actually good and kinda addictive. I enjoyed these and I enjoyed they gave a nice big portion. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=wXMnSOv4x6gNG-gHh3t40Q Potato Latkes- These were on the specials page and they were good, nice crunchy and fried well but these were mixed with something since the taste was a bit different and the color wasn't that nice golden brown color you associate with latkes. Goulash- This was a dish George had and honestly, they were amazing. Highly recommend. I thought the flavor but more importantly the texture was amazing. A lot of times when you have slow cooked beef, they could sometimes get stringy and chewy, no not here. Also the spätzle was a really great pairing. Mussels- These were some fat ass mussels. The flavor of them was good, the night I went they were spicyyyyyyy. This was a well made dish and i appreciate their creativeity but I do prefer a simple garlic shallot butter and white wine where I want to drink the broth afterwards. The broth on this was too spicy too drink. Roasted Boneless Pork Chop- Pork chops are always a gamble and the one here was just OK. The sauce it came in was nice, kind on the heavy side but a delcious cream sauce. The pork was cut super thin and unfortunely they came out dry and chewy. The fries were a nice shoestring fry which were nice and crunchy. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=14_-Katrn9Glu-wA65-CHg

The famous pretzel August 2025

They're celebrating 10 years in business next week. I hope they get another 10 years in business. This is a great little restaurant celebrating a unique cuisine underrepresented in NYC. Go here in person, order for take out or delivery, you can't go wrong. They even have brunch on the weekends. Full bar too! Their food is made with love that you can taste in every bite. Portions are generous. Large pretzel with 2 dips is great for sharing. Same with the delicious fried mushrooms, ask for extra sauce since it's that good. The brunch spatzel with scrambled eggs and bacon was large enough that it lasted me for 3 meals. Prices are very reasonable.

One of my favorite local spots! 10/10 drinks and food! Also has one of the best burgers in the area! A lot of seasonal specials drinks and food wise. Great service and friendly staff, always cozy vibes.

Cannot say enough about the tender braised beef goulash at Werkstatt. And those pretzels! The best in NY (as advertised). My dining companions enjoyed the paprika chicken and mussels, though the former was a tad "heavy" and the latter turned out to be quite spicy. The draft wine didn't go over well but the replacement glass was very good. Noisy but fun atmosphere, and friendly service.

It's been two years since our last visit and it is as good as before . Food was freshly made , service was very friendly and attentive . We will be back !

Wow!! What can I say but WOW!! Having just driven in from Christmas in Coastal Virginia we were hoping to eat a hot dinner quickly. Ready to settle for any place my son ordered from, I was delighted when I saw the restaurant he chose was Austrian & German cuisine. He knows I loved German food, which I attribute to my one German/Swiss family line that I identify with so closely. It's definitely overrides other lineages in my genes. Everything on the menu looked terrific. I decided on the Tender Beef Goulash with Spratzle. It had been quite some time since I had good Goulash. Of course a side of Sauerkraut was required. I wasn't prepared for how tender & delicious the beef was prepared. It was a perfect cut of beef & so tender it was easily cut with a fork. The gravy was equally delicious. I finished the beef quickly & mixed the Spratzle in the gravy, topping with Sauerkrauts, Yummy!! My Pescatarian son ordered the Salmon with Brussel Sprouts & Risotto. He immediately commented on how tender both the Brussel Sprouts & Salmon were. It was a 5 Star dinner for both. The restaurant itself is in Prospect Park South. Although delivery was quick & the food was delicious, I really want to visit the restaurant itself. The award winning Owner Chef has a menu filled with entrees that are so enticing. I want to experience the ambiance of its authentic charm. Werkstatt is permanently on my list of the "Best of the Best" in Brooklyn.

Front entrance, cute, it has a pub vibe

I have never had Austrian food before but we visited Hungary earlier this year and fell in love with the food there. We got so excited when we saw they have goulash and paprika chicken here. We got the braised beef goulash and the calamari and kielbasa. The Austrian goulash is a bit different than the Hungarian ones I've had in the past. It's thicker and even feels more like a sauce stew than a soup. We wanted to savor every drop of the sauce and it pairs so well with the spatzle. The beef was so tender and juicy and the spice captivating. I am a sucker for calamari but I surprisingly liked the kielbasa better than the calamari within the appetizer dish. Our first visit was a take out order and it was packaged nicely. The inside is very cozy and a pub-like atmosphere. I highly recommend giving this place a try! Can't wait to come back again and try their chicken paprika and other dishes as well. They do have a preference for cash payment.

Is a vaccine card needed for outdoor dining?

We do not require vaccination proof for outdoor dining. However, on the outside part of our back room, we do require vaccination proof due to its proximity to the indoor diners. I hope this is helpful.

I went in (I did have an Boba tea in hand on this sunny day".), looked at the menu, already decided what i wanted to eat and drink. Anyway, i go to the bar and tell the bartender ( later mentioned he is the owner), "table for 1" outside. He kindly mentioned "no outside drinks". I said ok no problem... "should i dump it or can you hold it, i am buying drinks & definitely food". He mentioned "the law " many times and an incident he had earlier. I said fine... even though I will buy drinks and food. The bartender then expressed "this will not work out...." Confused i said what do you mean....? He expressed that he is the owner and he is not going to serve me. " it's not gonna work out , I am all of this and you cant stay here" I didn't understand why he REFUSED to service me ...just after simply asking questions. No attitude and definitely nothing off putting. Question, a patron like myself will have service refused for simply asking a question?? Or was there more ? Why was I refused service? I dont want to make this about Race....but there was no attitude, no aggression....just a question.

It's a perfect place for a thoughtful cocktail without the crowds. My wife and I stopped here on a Sunday afternoon while our son was celebrating a birthday with his friends at the Brooklyn Battle Blaster Nerf Arena nearby. We had the place entirely to ourselves when we arrived, and that hour of peace and quiet with a great drink felt just luxurious. Bitter Monk comes from the same team behind Sugar Monk, the amazing cocktail bar in uptown Manhattan. It's an intimate bar that doubles as the tasting room for Atheras Spirits, their micro-distillery. The menu is built around house-made amari, herbal liqueurs, and bitters, with herbs, roots, flowers, and wild plants (many of them foraged) worked into the drinks. Added bonus: Everything they pour comes from New York State. The space itself is gorgeous. Colorful stained glass glows behind the bar, framed by a metal piece that reproduces the Atheras Spirits logo. The ambiance is elegant but relaxed, cozy with a loungey vibe; the kind of place where you can settle in without feeling like you need to dress up. I had the Devil and the Blue Sea (Svol aquavit, Atheras Akhenaten amaro, tamarind, yuzu, lime, patchouli, and baharat). It was complex and layered without being muddled. My wife had the Gaia Martini (Atheras Botanical Monks Gin East, Method dry vermouth, Svol aquavit, and Atheras mastiha liqueur), a beautifully herbal take on a classic. Both were excellent. A friend who doesn't drink joined us later, and he had real options. He ordered the Butterfly Field, a zero-proof cocktail with Lyre's London Spirit, yuzu, lime, lavender, butterfly pea, orange blossom, juniper, pepperberry, and egg white. It got the same care as the regular cocktails, not a token mocktail. Side note: They don't take reservations; it's first come, first served. Happy hour runs Thursday through Sunday until 4 pm, with a choice of four cocktails for $13-14.

The drinks were simple but delicious. He was also flexible with changing the contents in each drink or playing around with the ingredients. I could hang out here just for the bar alone. Food: We started out by sharing the large wings. They come out in a good size with a crispy skin. I then had the pan seared salmon with white rice and veggies. I felt the salmon had a good sear. The rice could have used a nice gravy to marry the salmon with. My friend had the lime Shrimp rice bowl which she said was good. We were rewarded at the end by a generous slice of chocolate cake served by one of the owners. What a nice surprise! Great portion size and reasonable prices. Overall, the food here is solid and I could see myself returning to try more dishes.

Unfortunately, our most recent visit was the complete opposite. We arrived right when they opened, sat at the bar, and ended up spending around $200. Once the bar got busy, it felt like we were completely forgotten. After finishing our drinks, we waited about 40 minutes trying to order another round. When we finally got the bartender's attention, instead of acknowledging the wait or apologizing, he simply told us he had "many drinks before us." We waited another 30 minutes before deciding to just ask for the check. There was no apology for the delay, no "thank you," and no goodbye after we'd spent a significant amount of money. He handed us the check and walked away as if he couldn't have cared less. It also seemed like he was the only person behind the bar who knew how to make the cocktails, which created a bottleneck all night. That's an operational issue, but unfortunately it was made much worse by the lack of customer service. We know this place is capable of providing a great experience because we've had it twice before. Hopefully this was just an off night, but based on this visit, we'd definitely think twice before returning.
