Never fresh, even at prime lunch time (noon) it's like it's been sitting around for hours, how is that possible?

The Halal Spot - Butter chicken Platter & Chicken Potato Pot

The Halal Spot

Grabbed lunch a short while ago at The Halal Spot in Old Bridge. I have been here on quite a few…read moreoccasions and this place never disappoints. The food is outstanding and the people are very friendly and extremely welcoming. My "go-to" dish is the chicken and rice platter with salad. As mentioned, the food quality is exceptional, very flavorful and always fresh. Chicken chunks are very tender and well seasoned. The rice is delicious and the salad is always fresh, crisp and cold. They have a wide variety of sauces and they always ask if you need more. And, yes, the platters are enormous. It is literally impossible to walk out of this place feeling hungry. The Halal Spot also has lamb, falafel, butter chicken and wide variety of other dishes. So if you are looking for a place that serves outstanding food, enormous portions that is reasonably priced. Your "go-to" spot should be The Halal Spot. Yes, it is that good!

Service was quick - we ordered take out…read more The menu they offer seems a little all over the place, but sometimes there's nothing wrong with offering some variety. I ordered the paneer platter and it was ok. I feel there was more rice than the paneer given. I wish there was a spice level option as well because I like spicy food. The web page pictures are misleading because for one the Makhni in the picture is more of a yellow curry base, whereas what I got was more of a red-orange (more so the color shown in the tikka masala image). My friend ordered the butter chicken and it was the same deal with the color, but I also have never had either dish before with a more yellow curry base so lol I just wanted to say it's inconsistent. We also ordered the Heavenly Hummus to share. Hummus was good, pita was good, but whatever was spread on top of the pita to make it a "garlic bread" was very strange tasting. We didn't particularly enjoy that portion of the pita.

My introduction to Chick-fil-A came courtesy of a friend who rang me up, bubbling with excitement…read moreover their "Paint a Pot" spring welcome event. She and her husband are regulars, and on occasion, they even join in on Bingo nights there. We decided to grab a meal before the painting program. Brilliant marketing strategy on Chick-fil-A's part, I must say, because it absolutely worked on me. Walking in as a first-timer, I was studying the menu when the manager noticed and came right over to help. I mentioned I didn't have much of an appetite, and he guided me toward the nugget meal; a smart suggestion, since it came with a choice of drink and waffle fries at a very reasonable price. Helpful, attentive, and not pushy. A great first impression. Here is my rating for the meal: ~ Chicken Nuggets ~ 4/5 stars A small mix-up on my end: I accidentally ordered the classic nuggets instead of the grilled variety. I'd seen the photo but missed that all-important word, "grilled." Entirely my fault -- and honestly, no complaints. They were freshly made and wonderfully crispy. The manager also noticed I was unfamiliar with the sauces and asked whether I preferred spicy or sweet, then generously sent me off with Zesty Buffalo, Sweet Sriracha, and a ranch to play it safe. A thoughtful touch. ~ Waffle Fries ~ 5/5 stars These were the standout dishes of the meal. Generously sized, with a slight crispness on the outside that gives way to a soft, fluffy interior. No condiments needed -- they're perfect on their own. I highly recommend it. ~ Strawberry Hibiscus Lemonade ~ 4.5/5 stars Balanced, refreshing, and thirst-quenching. The citrus is front and center, with a pleasant sweetness that doesn't overwhelm. A refill was happily offered -- and happily accepted. ~ Strawberry Hibiscus Sunjoy ~ 5/5 stars My friend recommended it, and she was absolutely right. This one blends their classic lemonade with freshly brewed sweetened iced tea, landing somewhere between tart and floral and lighter on the sweetness than the lemonade, and a touch more nuanced. It's my new favorite. Don't skip it. The staff throughout the evening were attentive and genuinely warm, keeping the dining area clean and tidy without missing a beat. One curious observation: there's a basket near the counter where unused condiments, dipping sauces, and children's meal prizes are collected, sanitized, and offered to the next guest. All in all, a wonderful first visit. Good food, great company, and a charming painting event to round out the evening. I'll be back, and next time I'll remember to say "grilled."

The bun was super delicious and the fresh veggies with the perfectly grilled chicken breast made and bacon- spectacular!! The sweet gentleman in charge of the dining floor was super sweet. He cleaned my table to ensure before I ate it was clean and sanitized. Bathrooms were clean and the restaurant was neat and organized. Staff were attentive and nice. I'm glad I decided to come to this location for dinner. Will come to dine-in again!

Even now, if I am aware there is a WC in the vicinity, I will drive out of my way to grab a sack full. Of course, these days they are even better than in my childhood as they offer more alternatives than just slider or cheese slider. Gotta have that Double Jalapeño Burger doubled with crinkle Fries and soda, and savor them all the way home. True to form, while in Keyport, NJ, last weekend, I checked and discovered a White Castle not 6 miles away on Route 9. It was about 10 minutes away, and though it lengthened my home bound route, I was totally game. I found it (despite its tricky entrance driveway right off the highway), ordered my standard double double, and slowly indulged all the way back to Pennsylvania. By now, I know how to hold the cardboard sleeve it comes in so that I don't touch the burger and simply squeeze the holder enough to expose what my bite can handle. Easy and clean down to the last chomp. This was strictly drive through, so I can't comment on the inside of the building. However, service was prompt and professional, with a little bit of whimsy from the cashier who seemed to enjoy his job immensely. Although I was pretty much sated from before in Keyport, I found out a long time ago that I always have room for White Castle. May it always be so.
