Potato soup with grilled ham and cheese without the ham.
    Brian L.

I've been here several times, but it was years ago and apparently before my days of yelp since I'm just now writing. From my previous experiences, I remember the food being about average and neither being impressed nor disappointed. On this visit, I ordered grilled ham and cheese and potato soup. The grilled ham and cheese had no ham in it and it was nearly gone by the time the waitress came back around. I can't let something like that ruin my lunch. If it's in front of me, I'll eat it. When we do grilled cheese and soup at home, I normally eat two sandwiches so this was a bit lacking in portion size. The soup was nothing at all to be proud of. I think it was cooked off site in a factory. The fried pie looks like something at Burger King, but it was surprisingly very good. It was undoubtedly made and cooked to order and I could have eaten five of them. I felt like they should be normal size for $3 though. It's all good. Just a normal little hole in the wall spot to eat, but don't expect too much.

    Great Fried Chicken!

Good food and good service Recently I found myself in Brighton and remembered that a friend had recommended I try out Wells Kitchen. "Well" - I must say he was right. They have great food. I'm kinda partial to Fried Chicken, so of course, I had the 3 Piece Dark and 3 sides. That was some good Fried Chicken. The crust was crisp and crunchy, and the meat inside was moist and tender. In other word, "it was GOOD". I usually try to get Turnip Greens at these type places. Their Greens were pretty decent and I would get them again. The Broccoli and Cheese was not too bad either. The one that caught my eye, though, was the Fried Green Beans. Not your normal side dish. I found it to be pretty good and a "healthy" alternative to French Fries. What?? Green Beans ARE vegetables, aren't they? Healthy? OK, OK - I guess the batter-fried part nixed that. Still they were quite good - oh, and you even have Ranch Dressing to dip them in. On the whole, I would give Wells Kitchen 4.5 Stars because the Staff were rather friendly and checked on me a few times. That being said, I would recommend you drop in and check them out yourself if you're hungry for good food in Brighton.

Venture to the city square in Brighton, TN to this local favorite and leave feeling like you just left Grandma's kitchen! Hearty portion sizes are affordably priced. A variety of southern veggie options are available and change daily. Home cooking at its best! Try the coconut fried pie!

Small place, but according to the locals, Well's Kitchen is the place to be. Packed out, but looking forward to trying the all-you-can-eat fried catfish. I'm not sure Brighton has any other restaurants.

I had the veggie plate with butter beans (they were a bit sweet and limas, not true butter beans), fried squash (the slice it long ways and hand batter), spinach mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs (delicious, no notes). I tried both hush puppies and a roll. Personally, the hush puppies weren't my favorite, but the roll was buttery goodness:). Most importantly, I asked our server at the beginning if they still had chocolate cobbler and if they were running low to go ahead and bring it out. At first they had plenty, but a few minutes later cobbler was in front of me because she noticed it was running low. So dessert first! Don't mind if I do:) it was warm, gooey, and delicious. Others in my group had the chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their meals! Service was great, though the kitchen was a little slow. It took about 30 mins to get our meals. Fun, old timey atmosphere - great service - and delicious home cooking. Will definitely be back.

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!

I ordered a medium rare ribeye, which was slightly overcooked but still a very good cut of meat. I did not care for the coleslaw or the gouda macaroni and cheese. The meal was served with toast. The chocolate pecan pie with ice cream was good. I arrived at 6:30 and was given a glass of water that a drank immediately because i was thirsty. Any establishment that must function understaffed should be like Nashville clubs and set out a jug of water so people can refill their cups on their own. They took my drink order at 7. There were no empty seats at the bar so I sat alone at a table. The experience was OK but they need at least one more server. The only reason they get by with charging over fifty dollars for the steak is because there's literally no other place within 40 miles you can get a good steak. The sides are below average. The servers are friendly but obviously overworked. The bathroom was clean and there was plenty of parking.

The restaurant portion of the building was almost empty, and I was seated almost immediately, but I was placed at a table in a high traffic area next to the kitchen. After a while, I flagged down an employee since it was unclear to me who my server was. I put in an appetizer order of their heavenly eggs. They included a wonderfully tart sauce, and the serving size was three eggs. The mushroom gnocchi that I had was delicious, and enough to feed two people. The potato dumplings were expertly made, and some of the best that I've ever eaten. Other than the service being a bit hit and miss, I would return if only for the excellent food.

Glad my small order got in before there's as I had finished eating when they bought the last plate to one of them. Food however, meh, just so so. I believe their sandwich plates are better than their meats & 2. The country ham was very good, tender and flavorful. The cornbread was not as they gave me a roll, guess they didn't have cornbread. The peas, well, canned, and on a large leaf of lettuce? The greens, canned. If you're going to advertise a hot lunch special, and it's limited to only 1 meat and specific veggies, seems like you would cook them as homemade vs straight from the can. The guy playing the piano at lunch was nice. Definitely a 'fu fu' place.
