My family has been eating @ Wells Kitchen since it 1st opened nearly 20 yrs ago now !!! We love the staff & family there as they have always been wonderful & gracious to us !!! The fried chicken , pork chops , steak & baked potatoes are simply delicious & the desserts are all homade . We go there @ least 2x or 3x a month to enjoy the food & atmosphere!!! We also call in on 2 go orders & run by & pick it up when we need 2 My company has been using their catering services to deliver meals in & around tipton county & also memphis on occasion to customers & everyone loves the food & looks forward next time we order from Wells Kitchen !@! I've been here several times, but it was years ago and apparently before my days of yelp since I'm just now writing. From my previous experiences, I remember the food being about average and neither being impressed nor disappointed. On this visit, I ordered grilled ham and cheese and potato soup. The grilled ham and cheese had no ham in it and it was nearly gone by the time the waitress came back around. I can't let something like that ruin my lunch. If it's in front of me, I'll eat it. When we do grilled cheese and soup at home, I normally eat two sandwiches so this was a bit lacking in portion size. The soup was nothing at all to be proud of. I think it was cooked off site in a factory. The fried pie looks like something at Burger King, but it was surprisingly very good. It was undoubtedly made and cooked to order and I could have eaten five of them. I felt like they should be normal size for $3 though. It's all good. Just a normal little hole in the wall spot to eat, but don't expect too much. read more

The people that own this place are very sweet and the food is actually quite good. However, my husband and I have had to stop going here for a couple of reasons. One, they seem to have trouble keeping good help. It is hard to reach anyone on the phone and if you get look and do get an answer prepare to be on hold for a LONNNNNNGGGG time. Nothing against hiring young people, that's great and all but the customer service has really declined. They need to refocus on that and hiring some professional experienced waitresses or waiters. It is a shame because we really liked the food but customer service is a pet peeve of mine. Second, they still have a Donald Trump sign outside of their business. Listen my family and I are independents. It isn't about who an owner votes for but you do not push a political agenda with a business. My husband and as of late have felt very uncomfortable because the restaurant has sold political items up front and if you are not a Trump worshipper (And we are not, never were but anyone okay with the insurrection and what has been learned just wow.) then it isn't a place you are going to want to be at it and that's a shame. I have a problem with any business Republican, Democrat or whatever that pushes a political agenda. A business should be welcome to ALL people. Period. read more

Good food and good service Recently I found myself in Brighton and remembered that a friend had recommended I try out Wells Kitchen. "Well" - I must say he was right. They have great food. I'm kinda partial to Fried Chicken, so of course, I had the 3 Piece Dark and 3 sides. That was some good Fried Chicken. The crust was crisp and crunchy, and the meat inside was moist and tender. In other word, "it was GOOD". I usually try to get Turnip Greens at these type places. Their Greens were pretty decent and I would get them again. The Broccoli and Cheese was not too bad either. The one that caught my eye, though, was the Fried Green Beans. Not your normal side dish. I found it to be pretty good and a "healthy" alternative to French Fries. What?? Green Beans ARE vegetables, aren't they? Healthy? OK, OK - I guess the batter-fried part nixed that. Still they were quite good - oh, and you even have Ranch Dressing to dip them in. On the whole, I would give Wells Kitchen 4.5 Stars because the Staff were rather friendly and checked on me a few times. That being said, I would recommend you drop in and check them out yourself if you're hungry for good food in Brighton. read more

I REALLY REALLY want to like this restaurant, but we've given it so many chances (at least 5) and it's a major letdown every time. It's not even "just okay" ... it's actually terrible. And I am NOT a hard to please person, at ALL!! Many years ago, we came to this restaurant several times with my parents, who lived in the area, and it was great!! So when we moved here a few years ago, I was looking forward to having this place to go to for some good home cooking. I don't know what all has changed, but it's definitely not the same. Service has been terrible and the food ... hit or miss. Last time we went (and it will be the last time), it was the week before Christmas. Got there right about 7pm. There was only one other table in there at the time, so not busy. I ordered the meatloaf, because I LOVE meatloaf, hubby ordered fried chicken. My sides were a salad and mashed potatoes. The salad was very good and fresh. I asked the only person in sight (girl sweeping nearby) if they had any crackers to go with my salad. She said, "I don't think so." I was sitting there LOOKING at a box of crackers underneath the iced tea urn. So my nephew walked over and got me some. The rolls that we were served were ROCK HARD on the bottom (literally, like concrete), but if you cut off the bottom, the top part was good, so we were able to eat the top half of each roll. The other thing that was in the bread basket (I don't even know what it was), a very thin, greasy burnt looking disks ... tasted it, out of curiosity, it was awful. When my dinner arrived, there was a huge portion of "meatloaf" on the plate ... but it didn't look like meatloaf at all. It was two big globs of meat ... very dried out and hard, with a couple little ribbons of ketchup on top. I understand that meatloaf had been the special of the day all day and I obviously got what was left in the pan after sitting on the steam table all day long. Any kitchen manager or head cook who would think that it was okay to serve that disgusting looking blob of brown goo (which tasted even worse), has no business working in any kitchen. It was inedible (and I really tried because I was really hungry!) and very unappetizing to even look at. It should've been trashed and meatloaf should've been marked off the specials board. But after 3 bites, I just couldn't force myself to take another. My husband's fried chicken was good, so he shared a little of that with me. Our server did not reappear to refill drinks until we were done. We sat there for about 15 minutes (after finishing) waiting for a check, while 4 young ladies and one young man (all employees) sat at a booth near the kitchen (2 of them at the nearby table in chairs facing the booth) while the 4 people at the booth chopped up onions and tomatoes and chatted, never once looking over at us to see if we needed anything (we did). So finally we got up to leave and went to the register, paid our bill and left ... so very disappointed. Please don't think that I don't have a great deal of understanding and empathy, as to the struggles and challenges of restaurant work. Over a decade in the restaurant business gives me a better than usual knowledge of how things work (or SHOULD work). I realize that the owners can't be there all the time and I realize that there will be glitches every now and then, but for it to be far below average every time on our last 5 visits, something is wrong somewhere. Kitchen needs to be retrained and shown what kind of food NOT to serve and waitstaff needs to be trained on how to take proper care of their tables, even if it's the last table of the night. read more

I usually love this place. The specials are great! But I just got a pick up order of a catfish basket w/fries and a chef salad. The catfish was great. Fries were soggy and full of grease. The salad had rolled up turkey and ham on a bed of soggy lettuce with over ripe tomatoes. I will be back for the lunch specials but $24 for that was totally not worth it! They need to update prices on here too! $12.99 for the catfish and $10 for the salad. read more

The food is good here and the price is even better :) Good home-cooking. The fried chicken is awesome! And I love their baked potatoes. My kids like the cheeseburgers and the fried pies...yum. We like it when the guy plays the piano. He's really pretty good. And if he's not playing, they have a TV in the corner so we can watch the news or whatever. The service is always great so we go here pretty frequently on week nights. But don't go if you are trying to eat healthy. This is not the place :) Oh and go to the bathroom before you come here - the thing is so tiny it gives me claustrophobia ;) read more

We tried it for the first time the other day. The service was good, good meaning it felt like a family member was bringing the food to you. I had the grilled chicken. It was absolutely cooked perfectly. The slaw, fried green beans, and turnip greens were on point. The price ($7.49) for all the food was a great value. It is a hidden gem. read more

The service was awful. The waitress came to our table maybe two times. She had an very nasty attitude, like she didn't wanna be there. So - I've been here three times for lunch. The first time, my husband and I ordered the Chef Salad and the Cheeseburger w/fries. Ordered a side of fried green tomatoes to share. The chef salad was pretty good. The cheeseburger was "okay", nothing special and the fried green tomatoes were clearly made from either frozen or jarred pre-cut slices. Not terrible, just not great. The second time, I ordered the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and brown mushroom gravy. The hamburger itself was tasty. The green beans were grossly over-cooked and the mashed potatoes were not even room temperature. They were so cold the gravy actually congealed on them! I made the mistake of going a third time (this was over a period of 7 months). I ordered chicken and dumplings, fried green tomatoes and greens. There was no chicken in my C&D and the broth was clearly out of a can. The tomatoes were okay (same as before) and the greens were pretty good. I won't be going back. The prices are WAY too high (nearly $20 for that C&D lunch with unsweetened tea!!) and the wait staff can't be bothered to look up from their phones long enough to see if you need anything. I see this placed advertised as "home cooking", but buddy I'm telling you, I certainly wouldn't want to live in THAT home! read more
