I was with a group of about 20 college athletes. We got great service and the food was fantastic. Had something for everyone.

First, I have to say that this was one of the best buffet restaurants that I have visited. The ribs and chicken were excellent, the desserts were the comfort food you grew up with and the taste was great. I want to expand my Jackson TN restaurant visits but I can't venture away from this place long enough to do so. I think this is becoming the spot for my me and my friends after a visit to the local wellness center. Overpriced, bad food: Three buffet's and three waters. $16.99 per buffet. It was Sunday and I asked what the cost was. The girl at the cash register said, "It depends on the day." Now that I'm home doing the review, I see they charged us for 1 drink ($2.75). So, my total was $58.96. With a 10% tip I paid $64.96!!! Well, maybe the Sunday buffet is better, you say. The peas were bad, the corn was so bland, and even tasted bad after salt and pepper. How can you mess up canned vegetables? The pork was dry and tough, my son said the ham tasted bad, and the Mac and cheese tasted bad. The chicken strips were ok, but not even close to Zaxby's. Fool me once, shame on you!! I'm actually mad from this experience! I was introducing this restaurant to my 12 and 13 year old boys for the first time, and I'm a resident of Jackson. It used to be pretty good, before COVID. NEVER AGAIN will I go there! If I could take away the one star I would. Our waiter was a nice guy from Venezuela. It was I'm the only thing that was positive. My salad was ok. Don't waste your money. The place has a very unpleasant and musty odor. The food is over cooked and seems to come from cans and boxes. The only decent dish was the fried chicken and maybe the catfish, according to my teenage son. Maybe it's par for the course in these parts and for southern style buffets, but if you like to eat fresh and good quality food in a clean atmosphere then don't eat here. read more

This place has been a family favorite for a long time now. Recently visited and the food is just as good as I remember! The catfish is flaky, flavorful, and fresh. I honestly think their catfish has gotten better since I last went. Their cornbread is my absolute favorite I've ever had! And their hush puppies are delicious. Chose this establishment based on previous visits. Mistake. Canned ham? Instant watery mashed potatoes. Runny stuffing with no flavor. Corn, no flavor. Pork tenderloin, dried out. No fried chicken, no Salisbury steak. The chicken tenders were very good, the ribs over cooked but tasty. NO ice cream, being told a replacement machine is too expensive. Overall will not be back. I say this 3.5 stars. Pro get in and get your food is all up to your speed of going through the food bar. Cons is hard to find the restaurant. Make sure you look at the more recent reviews. I made the mistake of looking at the reviews from back years ago and thought this was going to be a great place. It probably was when and if they actually cooked here. That is no longer the case unless you consider instant mashed potatoes cooking. I will say the chickens strips were pretty good and surely they fried them. Everything else, it seems, they have turned over to a food service supplier. So, it comes in already prepared or right out of a can. Very disappointed. The wonderful setting with its lake view did not make up for what is definitely not southern cooking. read more

This is a sentimental favorite for me, but it's still very good. The pulled pork is literally as good as any you'll find in Jackson. The vegetables are prepared the way they should be. Brooksie's Barn has been a landmark eatery for Jackson since I think 1980. Great food! I must say though. Lately they have obviously changed supply on their catfish. It is not good. Fishy tasting I mean pretty bad. I have found this true over 4 to 5 visits and numerous times recently where they catered food at work. This is one of the best Bar-B-Q restaurants we have every tried in our travels. It was recommended to us by a Real Estate Agent showing us a house close by. My wife enjoyed the Catfish in particular. the service was good. the peel and eat shrimp was stuck to the shell, overcooked i suppose. the ribs taste like cardboard , catfish was somewhat ok, if you got a good piece , most were overcooked and hard. the only thing there that was decent was the chicken strips, the rest was pretty much garbage, should have went to McDonald's. lol and the price was ridiculous for the dried out inedible junk they had out. we wont be back. had a large party and the census was the same for everyone. garbage, expensive garbage. 15 % gratuity added to each ticket. about $20 a person. read more

For such a highly-rated buffet, there are few choices. Our party had someone who is allergic to fish, who had to make do with a rather limp, undressed salad. AND pay full price. The hours are erratic, but the ambiance is nice and the staff friendly. However, the food has no variety (only catfish and shrimp the day we were there), the vegetables are over cooked, the cold salad is limp and unattractive, and the dessert variety is either canned pudding or a very tiny slice of pie of indeterminate type. I am sure that Mr. Brooksie Sanderson is spinning in his grave after sampling what is being sold under his namesake restaurant. I so not believe ANYTHING is actually cooked on-site anymore. Everything is either out of a bag or heated in a microwave. This place once had a real bar-b-q pit, homemade veggies and other side items. Absolutely no taste left to this once wonderful example of southern style cooking. Avoid it like the PLAGUE it is. The present ownership should be sued for continuing to use the Brooksie's name.
