We ate here again in April. The buffet is in full swing again (YAY!), with gloves for handling the utensils. Once again, the food was excellent. The salad bar is awesome and the fried catfish is some of the best I've ever eaten. I will be eating here again the next time I'm in Jackson! read more

So I can only comment on the Barbecue Turkey: DELICIOUS. It's moist and tasty. The vegetables were also seasoned well. I had the greens and baked beans. When they brought out my hushpuppies, they were cold. When I brought it to the server's attention, she brought out fresh ones. I've loved this place since I was kid. Even though Brooksie is no longer here, his food lives on. For those that don't know, this is a buffet restaurant- you can order food from the kitchen, but why bother. Everything in the kitchen is on the buffet. There is a delicate blend of BBQ, Ribs, chicken (baked and fried), pastas, seafood and so on. Not like a Chinese buffet, but a good variety of American blended foods. Where to start? The smell of old ghost town wood? The feeling like if you touched anything it would stick to you? Perhaps the lack of any flavor in the food. I get that people in Jackson are raised to only like the blandest and most tasteless food but this even was bad for a city where food goes to die. Let talk about the assortment. Pulled pork was OK but very bland. Everything else was mushy, overcooked, and almost unpalatable. The presentation was one of tired and worn out retirement home salad bar after mid day supper. Then let' get to the worst of the worst... the price. $14 for a buffet that would make a run for it's money against one of those local casinos in Las Vegas that only skeletons and retired gamblers go to. First time to Brooksie's. In town visiting family and took us over tonight. Buffet is $13.95 and is 100% worth the price! Have all the country vegetables you could ever want plus a nice salad bar. Vegetables ARE NOT cooked in butter and all were very tasty. Greens, black eyed peas, Lima beans, baked beans, etc. all terrific! Pulled pork is some of the best I've ever had. Fried catfish was fresh and good also. Also had ribs, fried shrimp, chicken. For dessert had banana pudding, peach cobbler, and a little soft serve ice cream. We ordered through the drive up window a family catfish dinner with hush puppies, coleslaw and white beans. They gave us baked beans in stead. The hush puppies were thick, heavy & dry. Contrary to what the cooks at Brooksie's would have you believe, rolling something in cornmeal and deep frying it doesn't necessarily make it Southern cuisine. It may however be a plot to drive more business to local cardiologists. The price is remarkably high for such a limited buffet, and nothing really stands out as worth the money. The overall "rustic" theme might be better served if they paved the parking lot and dropped the prices. I do enjoy the view of the pond while I eat, though. read more

We went here for the first time today and have to say were very disappointed. The service was great but other than the hush puppies the food was not good. Most of the items were cold by the time I got back to the table, the green beans tasted like they were straight out of a can, the other veggies had very little seasoning and the chicken and dumplings were very salty. Wonderful place to eat. Been eating there my entire life, and the food is fabulous. The ribs are out of this world, along with the rest of the BBQ, but their ribs are the best thing there by far. They've got wonderful seafood. The entire place has a wonderful atmosphere, especially when seated on the second floor overlooking the lake in the back, where you can watch the fish, and enjoy the view while eating. Overall it's probably the best place in Jackson, TN to eat. By FAR BETTER than Casey Jones Village. When in Jackson, don't waste your time with Casey Jones Village, as far as eating. Food is good- customer service is non-existant. If you do carry out, the wait can be over 20 minutes just to place your order. Carry out line drags because it is a single drive through window. If someone places a large order, the car is not asked to move forward. You wait until the order is complete for other customers ahead of you, even if they order enough for catering an event. Twice this has happened to me and when I asked for assistance the manager said the staff was going as fast as possible and hung up the phone. After the 30 minute mark, I was able to get out of line when the car in the front of the line finally got their order. All of the dishes tasted great! The owner personally greeted us and brought over a plate of ribs, delicious. We were visiting from Texas and my brother wanted to go for his birthday.
