We had an early dinner on Friday night-arrived before 5 pm. I had read the menu on line so we knew what was on the buffet. I'll list the food I tried-fried chicken ,fresh & great-chicken nuggets-ok but fresh-mashed potatoes fresh & great, cabbage -great, green beans with red potatoes-great, Mac & cheese ok spoon was coated. Fried catfish-fresh but did not try it. Greens-great, salad bar-fresh & good, fritters -seemed undercooked, yeast rolls-very good. The desert bar was the probably-three cobblers-2 were picked through & weren't ever replaced with fresh-apple & black berry. Cornbread tamale pie-picked over -just ok. The smaller peach cobbler was replaced twice. There was no banana pudding. I asked for cobblers & banana pudding twice within our 2 hour meal on a Friday night. We were about to leave the banana pudding came out. It was runny ,bland ,mostly cookies. No bread pudding on buffet. Cute place with great service. Food was decent enough, but the mashed potatoes were bland and sticky, the apple cobbler was also too sticky, and spaghetti and meats were unusually sweet. It was minimally dirty, but the atmosphere is amazing. Provided a good experience, and the service was great. Is a good part of the Casey Jones museum. What a cute place. It reminded me of Cracker Barrel except they offer much more. The first thing you notice is the ice cream and candy section. Then your eyes move to the right and they sell an assortment of accessories and shirts. But the main reason we came here was to EAT! That's straight and to the left. The dining areas are split into sections and there is plenty of seating. There was a large salad bar, 4 types of soups(also gumbo at the farthest section), a small dessert section with a choice of peach or blackberry cobbler, and 3 hot bars. My favorites were the fried chicken and fried catfish. Everything was delicious and the waitstaff never let our drinks run out. Next time we go to Jackson, I want some more of that buffet and pick up some honey and a t-shirt too. read more

This place is very filthy. Cock roach infested. The areas where dishes are washed and stored are filthy, bugs crawling all over, year old trash and grease and dust covers all surfaces on the dish machine and in that area. Your dishes that you are eating off of are coming from basically a big ass dumpster. Sprayed with a lil hot water then handed to you. The owner would rather make more attractions such as a petting zoo or a 10 percent discount during the snow days rather than invest in CLEANING AND BOMBING THE PLACE FOR BUGS. Brooks Shaw is The sorriest owner of this establishment in its history. His father would not stand for this. Don't spend your money here. You just might get deathly sick. I did every time I ate here. Being a guy who often travels around for work and having to eat by myself, I tend to eat a lot of buffets. Guy eating by himself in a restaurant or a bar comes across as creepy. But a fat dude by himself at a buffet? It's not only commonplace, but maybe even becomes sympathetic. Anyways, all this actually means is I typically have to settle for eating trash every night. That's until today, at least. Everything was shot, fresh, and constantly rotating. Absolutely nothing felt frozen, instant, or from the can. Their breakfast buffet is always made fresh and it's as if your grandmother is in the kitchen cooking it all-- just the way you like it. The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Stopped for dinner in early December '23 and it did not disappoint! Paid for the dinner and was seated in a wooden booth. Server quickly arrived - friendly and knowledgeable- took our drink order and told us to help ourselves to the buffet. Most items did not need name cards..... although it would be nice .... If you would like to experience what Cracker Barrel aspires for, authentic Southern comfort food, this is the place. Difference is, most of the furnishings and fixtures here are authentic antiques and parts of local history, not reproductions. The food here is prepared with care and a lot of friendly faces. I've eaten at this restaurant many times since it was started at another spot a little way South of the current location. At some point in time, it was moved to the current spot and combined with another local legend, the Casey Jones home and museum to form a tourist attraction near the busy Interstate between Memphis and Nashville. On a recent trip to Jackson, we enjoyed the Saturday morning breakfast buffet and it was a real treat. I tried great scrambled eggs, a breakfast casserole, wonderful grits, hashbrowns, red eye gravy, country ham, sausage, link sausage, smoked sausage, bologna, bacon, biscuits and freshly made pancakes. Everything was great, no exceptions. This is a really unusual accomplishment for a buffet and particularly at breakfast. Don't miss the local history exhibit with the Woolworth stools, a fine tribute to some courageous local college students. read more

There were biscuits, egg, freshly cooked-right-from-the-griddle pancakes as well. They is fresh fruit, various pies/cakes and a lot more. I loved the chicken and biscuits and the cinnamon pinwheels (reminded me of my childhood). The service was excellent and I loved the coffee. It really hit the spot for breakfast. For what we paid we could have gone with the buffet. There was no service other than the persons that put the food in a styrofoam container. At this price you should have real plates and silverware and table service. The prices in the store area were very high. Kind of like a Cracker Barrel. The ambiance is like an old country store. OMG did we find the jackpot with this location. If a Brooks Shaw's was near me I'd gain 50lbs in one month. This is a chuffed style restaurant with the lunch at $9.99 and $8.99 for seniors. My wife and I decided to take a day trip a couple weeks ago. We ended up in Jackson, TN. Ended up in Brooks Shaw's Old Country store. Think of Cracker Barrel general store side just with better stuff. We ended buying some Apple Butter and Apple Cider jelly (note: both are absolutely delicious). There seems to be two restaurants, one side is family style all you can eat, and the other side that we ate at was like going through a cafeteria line (think Piccadilly- only WAY BETTER). I got the turkey and dressing with jalapeño cornbread, creamed corn and mashed potatoes. My wife got the veggie plate with collard greens, cabbage, mashed potatoes and peas. Plus two drinks and it was like $22. If you leave hungry, it's because you either have no taste or it's your own fault. Everybody was so nice and welcoming, and the food is amazing. If you have a sweet tooth, they also have an ice cream shop with about 20-25 different flavors. Great way to finish off a meal! read more
