A 4.5 star review, rounded up because the owner was so kind in helping us find the perfect table…read more We showed up at Caroline's as a referral from Connor at our hotel, the Eagle Wing inn. There are multiple different seating options, everything from an outdoor patio to high top bar seats, tables, and the indoor booth seating which is what we selected. The dining room is comfortable, and with open windows it provided a nice breath of fresh air. We started with the seafood sampler, a wonderful combination of fresh and delicious shellfish (clams, oysters, shrimp and a lobster tail). We then split appetizers instead of entrees, having the tuna tartare and the Chatham mussels, both of which were excellent. There was some minor room for improvement - after we were done with our seafood sampler, we sat for about 10 minutes while our server Danielle seemed to be in an enthusiastic conversation with Caroline out in front of the restaurant. It provided for some interesting dinner theater, but with so many other employees standing around, it probably would have been an ideal opportunity for somebody else to chip in and take over. Also, the mussels came in a wonderful wine / garlic sauce - some bread would have been a thoughtful addition to soak up that wonderful broth. Fortunately the quality of the food and the vibe of the restaurant more than compensated for a couple of service issues - we visited in late May, so hopefully by the time this restaurant hits the busy season, they'll have the issues worked out. Overall, I would certainly not hold back from referring this restaurant.

Service was very friendly. The food came out incredibly quickly. Almost too quickly. I wouldn't have minded waiting a little bit to have more time to enjoy my wine and the ambiance. There was bread service which I enjoyed because a lot of restaurants have stopped offering bread. We had a beet and arugula salad to start which was delicious. For dinner I had the scallop dish with a seafood demi glacé and mushrooms. It was very rich with umami and paired well with the sweetness of the scallops. My husband had the grilled swordfish which was good, but not very special. The piece of fish was a little thin and slightly overcooked. The buttery caper sauce was good . Our lemon meringue tart was tasty, but the tart crust was tough and nearly impossible to cut through. Overall it was good, but not great. It was also very expensive. My dish with 4 scallops was nearly $50. The total with our food and just two glasses of wine plus tip was nearly $200 which is quite steep, even for the Cape. If we were to return next year I think we're more likely to come for a lunch.

I ended up with a half dozen Wellfleet oysters, which were substantial (2 year olds?), fresh, and briny -- exactly what you want in a Wellfleet. The only downside: They came with a lot of shell bits in the brine. I get that these oysters are hard to shuck since they have those rough, irregular shells (a result of being buffeted by the rough waves in this area). But I can do a better job when I have my good shucking knife on me and I am far from an expert shucker. A Caribbean fish soup / stew was also quite enjoyable, though my impolite and poorly-brought-up progeny made gagging noises when I opened up the container of soup in the car. I guess he thought it smelled unpleasantly fishy. :) He did quite enjoy a creme brulee we found in a refrigerated case in the market, however. Pleasant outdoor seating; delicious-looking menu (some of which isn't as ridiculously overpriced as it is in much of the Cape); pristinely fresh seafood; and super nice staff. But I was a little surprised by how long it took for us to receive the soup, which presumably had already been prepared, when it wasn't busy at all. (I think it took about 15 minutes!)

The hot lobster roll meat portions weren't amazing, lots of claw, but again personal preference. The chowder was very good. It had great flavor and there was a lot in it (potato's, clams, leeks). It was a little less creamy than some NE chowders. Picnic tables where they give you a number and bring you your food, so good for kids, dogs, casual eating.

I was looking for a place with good salads and this restaurant came up on my Yelp search. Due to…read morethe high rating (4.6) I decided to give it a try. The place is set up like a casual restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. When we walked in they had their radio set on a Christian station praising all kind of Christian ideology for all to hear. When we walked in, the lady behind the counter just looked at us with no welcoming smile nor attitude. I said Good morning and I got a slight smile from her. I then asked if they had any diabetes friendly items on the menu....She said...I don't know what that means ????!???!?! How can you work in a restaurant and not know what diabetes is ??? I then said, items with low sugar content. She still said, I don't know. So I decided to order a salad. Their Basco Salad was described as a bed of fresh greens and a nice Lomo on top. The salad came up fairly quickly and it was delicious. The boneless pork loin was well seasoned and warm. The greens were fresh and well balanced. I liked the food, but the stern long face of the lady as well as her inability (or un-willingness) to help made me drop one star out of my experience.

If you are craving an absolutely divine lobster roll on the Cape, you must visit Captain Cass Rock…read moreHarbor Seafood (also known as Cap't Cass)! Located at 117 Rock Harbor Rd, Orleans, MA, it's a quintessential, nostalgic New England lobster shack. It features the BEST lobster rolls we've ever had! Believe me, over the past six decades, we've eaten hundreds of lobster rolls. We've tried them from Maine to Gloucester, Mystic to Newport, Block Island to Hyannis, and Provincetown to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Cap't Cass beats them all! The outside of the shack is an absolute Cape Cod icon! The exterior walls are covered in vibrant, colorful vintage fishing buoys, and beautiful patriotic bunting hangs right above their big "Coffee & Beignets" banner. Seeing that bright red "OPEN" sign lit up on the white siding made us so excited to head inside! Cheers to a fantastic meal! Dave and I had a wonderful time clinking our glasses and getting ready to dive into our food. Sitting right by the window, we could see the bright green buoy hanging outside, while the wall next to us featured some awesome decor--including big lobster claws and a beautiful painted fish plate! We even brought along our trusty Cape Cod summer guidebooks to plan the rest of our perfect weekend getaway. Our lobster rolls were piled high with massive, fresh chunks of meat. We paired it with a side of perfectly crisp, golden-brown onion rings, a splash of fresh lemon, and some creamy coleslaw. Every single bite was pure heaven! Our server Quinn added to our meal with her pleasant personality, attention to detail, and excellent service. The inside of Captain Cass has the best nostalgic charm, too! They have a great chalkboard wall featuring their cute "Cass-A-Boo-Boo" lobster mascot, framed historic "The Cape Codder" newspaper clips, and vintage buoys. They even serve those fresh beignets all day and have their official Cap't Cass hoodies and shirts back in stock! You can get the rolls served two ways: traditional cold with mayo, or our favorite- warm and hot with butter. We are already planning our next visit to this local favorite! Bonus: It's just a quick ten-minute drive from our favorite inn, the Ship's Knees Inn in East Orleans. Big thanks to our innkeeper friend Pete Butcher for highly recommending it. We are so glad he did!

The parking lot overlooks rock harbor with fresh seafood coming in daily. Enjoyed a lobster roll, which was packed with tender lobster meat and lightly sauced with mayo.
