We were a little confused at first and started out in the seafood market. After wandering around a bit, we found the outdoor window where you're supposed to order prepared food. I ended up with a half dozen Wellfleet oysters, which were substantial (2 year olds?), fresh, and briny -- exactly what you want in a Wellfleet. The only downside: They came with a lot of shell bits in the brine. I get that these oysters are hard to shuck since they have those rough, irregular shells (a result of being buffeted by the rough waves in this area). But I can do a better job when I have my good shucking knife on me and I am far from an expert shucker. A Caribbean fish soup / stew was also quite enjoyable, though my impolite and poorly-brought-up progeny made gagging noises when I opened up the container of soup in the car. I guess he thought it smelled unpleasantly fishy. :) He did quite enjoy a creme brulee we found in a refrigerated case in the market, however. Pleasant outdoor seating; delicious-looking menu (some of which isn't as ridiculously overpriced as it is in much of the Cape); pristinely fresh seafood; and super nice staff. But I was a little surprised by how long it took for us to receive the soup, which presumably had already been prepared, when it wasn't busy at all. (I think it took about 15 minutes!) read more

Salmon sandwich was very good! I thought the crab cake-bread ratio was a little off on the Crab BLT (it could have used more crab cake), but that's a personal preference! The hot lobster roll meat portions weren't amazing, lots of claw, but again personal preference. The chowder was very good. It had great flavor and there was a lot in it (potato's, clams, leeks). It was a little less creamy than some NE chowders. Picnic tables where they give you a number and bring you your food, so good for kids, dogs, casual eating. read more

Wellfleet oysters well-shucked and large. Espcially enjoyed the fresh taste of the cocktail sauce. Cole slaw was some of the best we had this vacation. 4 oz lobster rolls were plenty big enough for lunch. Only mishap was that our order was given to someone else, who actually opened the boxes to check (thank goodness) and kinda reathed on them. No offer to remake. read more

We've eaten at both the Mac's in Chatham and the one in Ptown, and thought we'd give this one a try as we were passing through. The location is convenient, right of the highway, and it's very easy to order online. I like that they pay such close attention to allergens, even online! I love being able to get gluten free fried seafood. The food is consistently delicious across locations. We ordered clam strips plate, and an oysters plate. While other locations tend to count of the oysters, this oyster plate was filled with crispy fried oysters. Yum. The clams and fries were also delicious of course. A great place to stop for fried seafood. We're always sure to visit a Mac's location when we're in Cape Cod. read more

The Wellfleet oysters and local littlenecks are delicious. My pet peeve is that the cocktail sauce was too sweet. It had horseradish, but the sauce wasn't right. Fortunately the vinaigrette was delicious, even though I normally never use it. I thought the hot buttered lobster roll was a bit overcooked, but I'm a snob. They're nice to deliver the counter orders to the tables outside, and I enjoy the fresh air. I also had a dry hard cider, which suits the seafood. The meal was pricey. Overall, satisfying and relaxing, for Friday mid afternoon in late June. read more

I don't think the lunch window at Mac's could be slower if you paid them. It's downright painful. The food is fine, despite $15 for a Caesar salad. But the window service is a disaster. Plan to wait 20-30 minutes for anything. read more

When it gets busy there isn't anyone in charge so the staff walks around trying to avoid getting people what they need. It was weird. And there was plenty of staff. Avoiding eye contact and bouncing off one another so not to help folks in long line. Fortunately the fish is pretty good. Just gotta get through the indifferent staff. Great local spot with over the too fresh and delicious seafood choices. My wife had the clam chowder and lobster roll while I had the fish n Chips. Both were very fresh and outstanding. There is limited casual window- facing Inside seating however on sunny days there are many picnic benches outside as well. Service was top notch and friendly. Restaurant was clean, well laid out, and trendy. Easy on and off road with ample parking. Highly recommend Mac's for either take out or a quick bite in. read more

Tried this establishment as it received good reviews overall. The parking lot is unpaved and a dust ball. The prices are expectedly high. Mp next to some items which I find ridiculous. List the price, please. The lobster bisque was very rich but had no discernible lobster pieces in it. Bad choice. The fried scallops seemed fresh but had no taste and were very greasy. We used to be loyal Mac's customers. No more. First prepared food quality dropped. The portions shrunk, and the quality is just not there. Recently the seafood market has become misleading. Twice I selected what looked like center cut thick filets of halibut only to get home and find that they had folded under a large piece of skin that should have been trimmed off to make the piece look thicker and weigh more. Last time it was 1/4 waste - and at $34/lb this isn't right. It's worth the drive to Orleans to find an honest cut of fish. read more

Have been visiting several places, eating lobster rolls all week here at "The Cape" and I can honestly say that this place serves the best lobster roll I've had yet. The bread is warmed, unlike other places I've been to, which I prefer, because in my opinion, that helps the sandwich not fall apart. We also had a dozen Wellfleet oysters which we loved. I ordered a blackened swordfish sandwich (knowing that isn't a local Cape speciality). Tasty but surprisingly very poor in terms of value. $17 snack. The fish portion - not sure steak or filet - was quite small. The bun had tasty pickled red onions, greens and sauce. A standard bun with fish portion smaller in diameter and thickness less than the bottom half of the bun and NO SIDE included. Fries/salads to add are not discounted if combined with a sandwich as far as I could tell. This was a fun, casual place for fresh seafood. It was so good, we came twice! There are a lot of fried and non-fried seafood options to eat at the cute picnic table area outside of the building. The staff was very helpful with recommendations and brought our order to us at the picnic tables. There were so many gluten free options which was pleasantly surprising - even for the fried seafood. we were looking for a place for lunch after our excursion at the Nauset Light. this place fits the bill because it : 1. is no frills, seemingly good seafood 2. is CLEAN 3. has a good outdoor dining setup (shaded or open air picnic tables, very important since it rained a lot the day we went). the seafood market itself is super clean and didn't have that fishy smell at all. the staff was quick to greet us and offered us assistance. they also sell some prepared foods and some produce (fingerling potatoes, shallot, garlic, fresh corn on the cob), i'd say pretty much all the accoutrements to make your own seafood feast. the restaurant portion is located in the back and we ordered the following to try: -wellfleet oysters (half dozen): super fresh, briny, not to mention local! just what i needed! -onion rings: hand coated in flour and fried to order, unfortunately, a lot of the coating came off during the frying process and even less made it to me. i ended up with lots of soft, uncoated onion rings. -clam chowder: not a lot of potatoes or clams, very soupy. -steamer clams: large sized steamers, super tender and succulent, however, they were quite gritty so not as enjoyable. -lobster roll (small [4 oz.] and large [6oz.]): we both opted for the chilled version with mayo. it is perfectly seasoned lobster salad with lots of tail meat, piled high, and served on a buttered and toasted roll. i felt the 4oz. is a pretty good portion size already and i was kinda sad when i lost a few pieces as i bit into the lobster roll. -fish & chips: thick fish fillets and lots of thin and crispy fries. my brother is a big fan of fish and chips in general and didn't really have complaints. though he does prefer thicker fries. -lobster dinner: cooked to perfection and served with a fresh corn on the cob. while some items were not as good as expected, i really liked the oysters and lobster roll. the service was helpful and friendly. i recommend this no frills spot for those who love good, fresh seafood, but without the hefty restaurant price tag. read more

I have come here before, maybe 2-3 years ago. Used to be really good. Went this past week and this place has really gone down in quality. Fish on the fish and chips was really dry, small portion. Looked at pictures online, and the amount of fish given was almost twice as much as I was given. 8$ for a cup of clam chowder and it's less than a cup. Come on Mac's where did you go?! read more

Delicious lobster roll!' Get the 6oz, you won't regret it. The clam chowder is loaded with clam and thinner than most but tasty. The fried whole belly clam strips scream cape cod!! They forgot my side of tartar sauce but it was aok the strips spoke for themselves. The French Fries were over fried, more like chips. That was a disappointment. Their jumbo fresh raw prawns taste like the ocean and reasonably priced. They were easy to order from either by phone or in person. Masks required. Very nice people. Good seafood eats!! We are huge fans on all of the Mac's locations. It is wonderful to see a thriving business that gets it right. This is our first stop when driving up the outer arm of the Cape, and often our last stop when headed home. The seafood is always fresh, the staff is always kind, and the chowder and bisque are always spot on! The chowder is some of the best on the Cape. You owe it to yourself to stop in and try some. Crab sandwich was underwhelming. We had to take one piece of bread off to even taste the crab meat. Pretty tasteless. Actually very tasteless. Fried Clams above average maybe the best we've had with a nice dipping sauce. The clam chowder was good but very little clams in it. Average. Nothing stood out. Stopped at Mac's on the way out to Provincetown yesterday to grab some lunch. Thanks to Yelp, we knew exactly where this location was and what we planned to order. I had a large cold lobster roll and I tasted the hot, buttered version....along with a few spoonfuls of New England clam chowder. The large lobster roll is 6 ounces; the small is 4 oz. The 6 oz. sandwich is filled with generous amounts of lobster....literally spilling out of the thick, buttery Texas Toast. My only complaint was the abundance of thin, long pieces of "leg meat" as opposed to lobster claw or tail chunks. I liked that the amount of mayonnaise is minimal, but I've learned that I'm more of a purist. Hold the celery and the Old Bay seasoning. Let the lobster shine. The calm chowder was delicious. Consistency was a bit thin but the clams were abundant and not too chewy. The take out items looked amazing. All of the pre-prepared dishes in the"deli" area screamed "gourmet". The fresh fish display was super clean and not a hint of a fish smell anywhere. Super fresh. I also caught a glimpse of a fried clam belly order and I started drooling. Next time. My friends and I have visited different Mac locations for years, but our recent experience at the Eastham location over the weekend was the most disappointing we've ever had. Our order included a large plate of fried calamari for $22. Approximately 1/2 of the dish consisted of fried breading, and the calamari itself was utterly bland. While the calamari was no doubt fresh, it was hard to appreciate because the excessive breading overwhelmed the flavor of the seafood. Also many pieces were sliced so thin that the ratio of breading to seafood seemed about 3 to 1. This is the kind of dish you'd expect to pay $12 for at an Olive Garden or Red Lobster, but Mac's should be embarrassed to serve it for $22. read more

We've started coming out to the Cape every fall. The off-season can be very relaxing, with its lack of traffic and empty beaches. The only problem is that all of our favorite summer places are closed! Well it's Mac's Market to the rescue! While their restaurant on the pier closes up at the end of the season, their Market is open throughout the year. I can stop in there and get a lobster roll, fried clams, whatever I want. Wellfleet oysters were $1.25 each this year. (Make sure you pick up a shucker) We had a fried scallop plate this time. It came with nice homemade coleslaw and some light and crunchy french fries, just the way I like them. We also took home some smoked salmon, a dozen oysters, and a sriracha aioli. We've gotten lobsters here before to make rolls at home. There is an array of prepared salads and fish and crab cakes, in addition to the wide selection of fresh fish, with the local catches labeled. This place is gourmet, so expect to open your wallet. Everything here looks so good, my wife and I agree that if we had the money, we might just move to Eastham and eat all of our meals here. There are a lot of great places to eat on the Cape, but for the seafood lover, you could begin and end with Mac's and do alright. If it swims and is worth eating, you can find it here. read more
