If you read my posts you know A. I do an annual lobster roll crawl on Cape and Maine, each year and B. I will wildly protest food recs that I deem, horrendous or off point. Take my feedback with a grain of salt. Today, I revisted Young's Seafood at Rock Harbor Orleans. I go each year. The rolls are 19.00 this year (cash only). They serve with a bag of Lays Potato Chips. I got a side of slaw and a cup of haddock chowder. I parked at the end of the lot, opened my windows to listen to the Osprey talk and to feel the breeze, gazing at the boats and puffy clouds. The meat was sublime; slightly moist, nice flavor and fresh. The rolls marred the experience so I use my fork and tossed the blah roll. The haddock chowder was fabulous. I don't fancy dairy / milk and never eat chowder but felt compelled. It was heavenly. They gave me some salt water taffy for dessert. So great! Haven't been in a few years (moved from Orleans to Chatham & just never make it back) and regret that now. For $19 you get a delicious lobster roll and small bag of chips. Roll doesn't look like much when you first open the wrapper, but it's the perfect size and oh so tasty! Def recommend! Take it and go down to the benches by the beach (end of the parking lot) and enjoy it with the view. read more

Came for lunch on a Saturday - And discovered a Time Machine!! This place is literally small shed with a refrigerated case for very fresh-looking seafood, and also delicious Lobster Rolls. What's up with the Time Machine u ask? Well, it's the throwback prices - as of May 2023, lobster roll was $18, and a bowl of piping hot clam chowder was $6. (**Cash only) Lobster roll was served on a top split bun (not toasted), dressed in mayo. No celery, onions or other bits (my preferred type). The rustic harbor feel provides great ambiance. The lobster roll is packed full of sweet, phenomenal lobster. The lobster is so good that it's ok the bun is untoasted. I try to tell myself that everyone has different tastes, but I still can't understand how some reviewers are claiming that this is the 'BEST' Lobster Roll on the cape. Recently in town for a wedding, I came here as my very first stop off the highway, per a recommendation from a friend. First, there are no bathrooms. There's a porta-john around back for employees only, (don't bother asking, they won't let you use it). They'll tell you to use the public porta-johns around the corner (2 min walk, 10 second drive). The lobster roll was good, but I wouldn't claim it to be great. It is however cheap, $10.50 for a lobster roll compared w/ the $18 lobster roll at places elsewhere on the cape. Mostly shredded lobster meat (maybe from the legs?), some mayo on a top-split bun. No lettuce, no celery, not on a toasted bun. With no place to eat inside, there are a few benches out back (RIGHT next to that employee-only porta-john... Gross). My suggestion drive around the corner (also where the public bathrooms are), and grab a bench on the beach overlooking the bay. Overall good lobster roll if you're looking for something cheap & no-frills, just make sure you have cash. However personally I'd take the extra drive & pay the extra $$ to get a lobster roll at the Sesuit Harbor Cafe! read more

Grab lunch and step-back-in-time at this charming wharf-front fish store/vintage cottage that serves up creamy, clam chowder chock full of plump, tender clams ($6). Follow that up with a lobster roll that comes with a bag of Lay's potato chips ($18) - cash only. The lobster roll is about 6" long. It's served on a soft, fresh roll (not toasted) that's stuffed with large chunks of moist lobster meat lightly dressed with mayo and nothing else. Steamed clams are also on the menu but we didn't try them. They also sell a wide assortment of fresh fish and lobsters to cook at home. Best of all, the people who work there are delightful. Though I don't know for sure, they seem like true Cape Codders - with a genuine authenticity that you can't manufacture. A five star authentic Cape Cod experience not to be missed. Being from Tennessee, I have little experience with New England seafood. I was visiting a friend who's family lives on Cape Cod and they took me here for an authentic Cape Cod seafood experience. It's a tiny little shack on Rock Harbor with a tank with live lobsters, a country, and a food prep area in the back. We ordered the lobster roll and clam chowder. The lobster roll was absolutely divine. There was a very healthy amount of lobster meat and it was so creamy and delicious, absolutely wonderful. The clam chowder was warm, thick, and creamy, it was the kind of meal that deserves a nice nap afterwards. read more

Cheap, delicious, fresh lobster rolls. Yup, yup, yup. A dash of mayo, and an overloaded bun - these rolls don't stay around long enough for your brain to fully enjoy. They also happen to have terrific stuffed clams and crab cakes. The fresh fish (and smoked blue) looks great but we havent picked any up yet. Very cool lobster tank inside too. For what it is, there's nothing you can deduct a star for. Its a fish market, that happens to have great lobster rolls. Love it. read more

WOAH....lobster rolls. We were hungry and looking for a snack/lunch. We had been directed by a friend who lives locally to a 'shack' at approximately this intersection. So...we drove there and found this spot! It's very tiny, but wow, this lobster roll packs a punch! It was a simple roll with lots of meat and not anything else. Delicious - I could have eaten two. I hear they also will steam your lobster for you and you could check out the fresh lobsters in the tanks in the store. Friendly staff also. I will seek this spot out again - if I lived there, I'd have a hard time not visiting weekly. YUM. read more

Local gem. We got the lobster rolls here, $12 and full of lobster meat! They are cold style lobster rolls with just enough mayo, no lettuce or sides. When staying in Eastham a neighbor recommended Young's for lobster rolls, compared to the more touristy type places on Route 6 it is more affordable and delicious. It is small and quiet, there were no lines and no waiting. The lobster rolls were really good, so another day we got crab cakes, seafood cakes and clam chowder... everything was great! The clam chowder was some of the best I have ever had! Next time I stay in Eastham I will definitely try buying some some fresh fish to cook at home. Tip: Cash-only! read more

The 4 stars is for the shack in general, but I would give the lobster roll a 3/5 stars, as it was just average. But you get what you pay for! $11.50 for a roll is pretty good by Cape Cod standards, though I probably won't get it again. No sides, no frills. To some degree, I think that opinions about lobster rolls on the Cape are similar to opinions about Chinese restaurants in the New York area. People tend to prefer the places which are the most familiar. For us, Young's is the favorite lobster roll in the area. We prefer to take our lobster rolls to a Cape Cod league baseball game or somewhere else to enjoy. read more

my husband and i came here yesterday afternoon on the recommendation of a local for a good lobster roll. i'm originally from CT, and tend to prefer the CT style of lobster roll (with hot butter), as opposed to mayo. however, this lobster is already pre-mixed with the mayo, so we decided to take a chance on it anyway. we also got a tuna roll, and a small cup of clam chowder. for those who dislike mayo lobster rolls- this is a great option. it was very lightly dressed, and you definitely still get the sweetness of the lobster. at $13, it was a steal. it was packed full with lobster meat, and an excellent value. the tuna roll was also chock full of tuna, though the tuna itself had become really broken down and fine; it was very thoroughly mixed though, again, not too heavy on the mayo. my clam chowder was excellent, a classic rendition of this New England staple. it had a good amount of clams in it, and wasn't too heavy on the potatoes. service was friendly and efficient. we took a hint from others and enjoyed our food sitting outside overlooking the pier on some parking barriers. this is a cash only operation, so come prepared. the menu states that they do offer steamed lobster, and will even pick them for you! seafood in the to-go case looked pristine. this is a great local spot, and we would definitely come back. highly recommend! read more

That said, whenever I am in the greater-Orleans area, I head to Rock Harbor to the simple and humble Youngs Fish Market. Why? To enjoy what is arguably the best Lobster Roll around. Anywhere. Period. For $10.00, you receive what must be at least 1 Lobster's meat, mixed with a 1/2 tablespoon of Mayo on a soft Hot Dog Roll. People, put a few cold ones in your cooler, head to Youngs, buy (2) Lobster Rolls (per person - 1 just never is enough), place in cooler and head to either Skaket or Nauset Beach. There are two problems: 1) They are expensive on the Cape 2) Just because every place HAS a lobster roll, doesn't mean one should eat a lobster roll at every place (some lobster rolls on the cape suck/are a rip-off). Young's Fish Market is your solution. Introduced to my by my lovely girlfriend, Young's Fish Market has $10 lobster rolls (yes, $10 lobster rolls!). Packed with about one full lobsters worth of meat, a little mayo on a hot dog bun (so it's not huge), this roll is no frills, but damn are they good. Young's also have other prepared seafood salads and cakes and delicious looking lobsters oh so ignorantly swimming around in their tanks, just waiting to be plucked for dinner. Word on the street is that the guy behind the counter can call the weight of the lobster (to the ounce!) just by looking at him, but I have never seen it.... Our last trip down the cape the lady and I brought two sodas and Cape Cod Chips and then chowed down right in Rock Harbor. Tough to beat. I also got a crab cake to bring home and had it on top of a salad for dinner. Really nice. So, if you are on the Cape in Eastham, Wellfleet, Orleans, Dennis, Brewster, Chatham, or passing through any of these places, stop at Young's!
