Welks - street view on Main St.

Great general store. There are aisles of kitchen supplies, basic groceries, cleaning supplies, household goods, lots of organizing materials, school stuff, gardening and plants. It's an eclectic mix with good taste in curating it all. This place is a gem, wish there were more locations.

Their candle and incense corner is worth to visit even it's general store originally. Good quality selections.

Welk's is an emporium befitting of the upper middle class neighborhood in which it exists. It's fun to have one-stop shopping for tidbits related to the kitchen, bath and body, food, plants, homewares, hardware, stationery, travel supplies, etc. I'm glad that it's there, it's just slightly above my price point in most contexts. For instance, I went in looking for a simple candle the other day, and quickly realized that anything over a votive was going to easily run $15+. If you are a freak for containers, they stock all manner of cool jars (including the Weck brand). The bath and body section also carries a lot of nice local brands in things like deodorant creams, lotions, and soaps. My strong advice is NOT to visit on the weekend at peak times. The aisles are narrow and you will only end up frustrated. It's very hard to browse during these times.

Welk's is basically the Main St general store. No, this is not a trashy dollar store. Welks actually carries some really good quality stuff, including a large selection of vegan, organic, and natural products. They've got everything from truffle oil and cupcake pans, to soy candles and coat hooks. As well as a ton of other random and unique items you suddenly have the urge to buy.

Reminds me of a dollar store but with hardware and the dollar items

Setup and feels like a fully stocked dollar store without dollar store prices! They carry everything from hardware, stationary, personal goods and doggie treats.

Colorful Bodum French press.

I put my dollar loonie coin token in the slot and the darn key lock wouldn't come out. Luckily it worked on the other cart beside it. They made a huge change in the checkout area where they converted a large portion of the regular registers into a huge self checkout area. Kinda disappointed at this change since i almost never use self checkout. Granted, it was a little late at 9:30pm, but there were no full serve regular registers available at the time. (only if you pay in actual cash, which i didnt have.) The staff person was nice and rung up my items for me after i requested help. Avoid Wal-mart's homemade pastries! Their cherry turnovers were improperly baked making them super hard to bite into. The amount of cherry filling inside was also lacking. I felt i wasted $6. As i was making my way to the parking lot with my items, i got a unpleasant surprise because there was that fight broke out between the security gaurd and some brazen shoplifters. The shoplifters ran into the wrong store door so it didnt open but they still managed to force themselves out eventually. The security guard tried to grab their stolen goods in a epic tug-of-war match and ultimately lost. The shoplifters got away! Kudos to the security gaurd for trying to stop them. It was a 4 vs. 1 tug of war so he was outnumbered. Also kudos for him vigilantly shooing away people that didn't wear a face mask, which was required, during covid19 . On the plus side, I found a good $2 off deal on shampoo. But best of all, I got a great deal on Purex toilet paper, and there were still plenty left. Got a few packs to use during the second pandemic wave. And yes, you can buy more than one! Score! Overall not bad...3/5.

Over the 8 months from when we first approached them about the renovation until when they FINALLY got everything they had committed to "complete", it was an absolute nightmare. We first approached their "kitchen designer" in September 2024 and gave her our maximum budget that she promised she could easily stick to. The first couple of months until handed over the initial money was great, she guided us to take a certain type of cabinet and counter top to fit our budget constraints. She was very helpful and friendly. She advised me to apply for a Home Depot credit card and pay on that because there was 2 - 3 years of 0% Interest on it) As soon as money changed hands, her whole attitude changed. Her responses became few and far between and when she did reply, it was often hostile and blaming us for her mistakes. The cabinets arrived and nobody showed up to install them. We tried calling and emailing with no replies. When she finally replied, she had "forgotten" to book the installation... And then told us that she had also forgotten to charge us for it. She charged us for PREMIUM installation, when that included things we didn't need. When we challenged this to ask why we didn't get STANDARD installation, that was repeatedly ignored. On installation, the installer pointed out that multiple things had been mis-measured, meaning that there were HUGE void spaces that would be wasted behind cabinets and could have been used for more cabinet space and to make doors wider, etc... Also, the space left for the fridge was the exact measurements of the fridge, meaning that the fridge actually wouldn't open if it was pushed in all the way (because the door couldn't move). Any attempts to relay this to the "designer" were answered with "well YOU signed off on the design" ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY. The installer, Kostya, was SO amazing and professional and made cuts and adjustments to make what he had been provided with work. He then pointed out that because the "design" involved pushing cabinets back (rather than increasing the depth as the "designer" said she would do) that there would be a large area of the kitchen where there was no flooring, meaning that we had to get a patch refloored. Finally he pointed out that there was an entire cabinet missing! Again, the "designer" blamed us, saying we had missed it when we signed off on the order. She ordered it and outrageously told us "You have to wait another few weeks for the cabinet to be made and delivered but I have managed to get you a discount on the cabinet to make up for the trouble" and still charged us for HER mistake! She also hadn't ordered cabinet handles. When we queried this, she told us that we hadn't picked or paid for handles (even though my wife clearly picked handles in the in person meeting!) Despite being told the contrary, the repair and painting of the backsplash was not included in the installation, so we had to get another contractor to do this. The "designer" did not include disconnect and reconnect of gas stovetop so we had to get another contractor to do that. When we contacted the countertop company, they informed us that the Home Depot "designer" had not sent any order information to them, so we had to arrange this all ourselves. They also informed us that there would be a $500 fee for using the current sink (and that Home Depot should have told us this - which they definitely did not) They also gave a quote of more than double what the Home Depot "designer" had quoted, so we had to pick their cheaper countertop stone to try to lower the price. Suddenly I got messages from the Home Depot credit card company stating that my interest free period was coming to an end. When I called Citibank, the credit card company, I was told that 12 - 36 months of interest free credit is not something they offer. When I contacted the "designer" about this, she again did not take any accountability. After we got the countertop installed, the stove top did not fit in the gap because the Home Depot "designer" had not accounted for the fact that the new countertop was 1 inch thinner and so we had to ask the installer to come back and manually adjust the oven cabinet to lower the bottom of it so that the stove top (just) fit in. In total, the cost came to over 1.6 x our original budget, forcing us to go thousands of dollars into debt to be able to pay for it. At NO point did we get an apology from the "designer"... Quite the opposite, we got gaslighted and blamed for her mistakes.

Public Safety Complaint: Injury Caused by Negligence at Marshalls Marine Drive, Vancouver…read more I am writing to report a serious safety incident that occurred at the Marshalls store on Marine Drive in Vancouver on Monday, August 4, 2025, at approximately 2:30 PM. While trying on a pair of jeans in the fitting room, I suffered a painful and entirely preventable injury due to the store's negligence. As I pulled up the jeans, I was suddenly scratched by a long, sharp, exposed needle protruding from a security tag that lacked a protective end cap. The result was a 15-centimeter-long bleeding cut on my left thigh (I have photos)--a painful and alarming injury that could have easily been avoided with proper safety protocols. Upon realizing the injury, I immediately returned the faulty security tag to Commie, the store associate at the fitting room desk, and showed her the bleeding wound. Commie responded with empathy and promptly escalated the issue to the store manager, Aonchal. Unfortunately, the store's handling of the situation from that point onward was highly unprofessional and deeply disappointing. Despite my request, store Manager Aonchal declined to view the injury and offered only a few adhesive bandages, which were insufficient to cover the full extent of the 15-centimeter bleeding wound on my left thigh, as documented in the attached photos. I was left to treat the injury myself at home, using my own medical supplies to adequately dress the laceration. Manager Aonchal further stated that there was "nothing they could do," and advised me to contact the company's 1-800 customer service line at a later time. No formal incident report was filed, and at no point was there any demonstration of genuine concern for my safety or well-being. As a result, I felt dismissed, unsupported, and treated in a manner lacking basic compassion and professionalism. In response to my continued concern and request for a professional resolution, another manager, Omer, arrived and offered a $25 gift card. I declined this offer, as I found it to be an inadequate and dismissive response to a serious physical injury. A bleeding wound of this nature--caused by a store's carelessness--is not worth $25. My intention in raising this issue was not for compensation alone, but to highlight a dangerous lapse in customer safety standards that could affect others, including children. This was not merely an unfortunate incident--it was a public safety hazard. The failure to properly secure a sharp object on a garment is a clear case of negligence, and it exposes all customers to potential harm. --- I formally urge Marshalls and its parent company, TJX Canada, to: Immediately review and correct in-store procedures for tagging and securing merchandise. Ensure all security tags are safely capped or removed before trying-on. Implement proper training for staff in responding to customer injuries, including incident documentation and basic first aid response. Acknowledge this incident and take public responsibility for the harm caused. --- I am now left with a painful wound, a visible scar on my left thigh, and a sense of mistrust in your store's ability to protect and care for its customers. I share this publicly in the hope that no one else has to suffer from the same injury or the same dismissive treatment I experienced. Sincerely, A concerned and injured customer

This review is regarding the PARKADE only, not a reflection of the mall itself or the stores…read morewithin. You MUST validate your parking at Sungiven Foods for 2-hour free parking, all other stores only validate for 1.5 hours - and I learned this the hard way. It was my first time driving to City Square, and I saw the sign in the parkade that read "Enjoy 2 hours free parking with purchase". I went to Dollarama first, and had my ticket validated there. I shopped around, and Sungiven Foods was one of my last stops before returning to my car. As I was driving out of the parkade, I was surprised that there was an overdue balance of $4.25 at the gate, even though I was in City Square for less than 2 hours (I had a timer on my phone). I called parking assistance and they sent Chandani to deal with the issue. She did not want to listen to my situation and was very rude and unhelpful. She kept insisting I pay for the ticket or go back upstairs to revalidate, and then walked away. I understand she may not have any authority to authorize anything or override the ticket, but she did not bother to listen or try to get help. I checked my timer, and saw that I was cutting it very close to 2 hours, so if I had re-parked my car and went back upstairs to revalidate, I would definitely go over the 2-hour limit. I paid the ticket and checked the website when I got home, and I understand that the City Square regulations states: -90 minutes FREE parking with a minimum $5.00 purchase from City Square retailers. -One retailer stamp per parking ticket allowed. Please bring your parking ticket along with you to the retailer for validation. I am upset because there was no indication (either on the website on signage posted in the mall or parkade) that the retailer stamp HAD to be from Sungiven Foods specifically (and be validated there first) in order to qualify for 2-hour free parking (instead of 90 min). Chandani also gave me the wrong information, and I would not have been able to re-validate at Sungiven foods anyways if I went back upstairs, as only one retailer stamp per parking ticket is allowed (as per the website). I did email the admin at City Square as well with my concerns over the signage, and asked for a possible refund. Chasity from Reception & Administration directed me to Precise Parklink in regards to the ticket refund. I didn't bother contacting Precise Parklink because on paper, I did exceed the 1.5 hour parking limit, but the reason for this is because of the misleading and unclear signage in my opinion.
