This is the cleanest and most organized discount store I have ever been in. We've been doing some home organizing and needed some odds and ends, so we decided to check out Welk's. I did find some nice bamboo trays for the bathroom counter, but we couldn't find decent hangers. Like other Yelpers have mentioned the quality of their stuff is a nicer than regular discount stores, but not has nice as some home organizing stores on Davies. Definitely worth a browse. read more

From the outside it looked like a dollar store, but inside it was much more. (although they recently got new signage which seems to have dropped the word 'discount' from their name). The prices are not as cheap as a dollar store, but the quality isn't shit either. Think of it as more of a General Store. I like going here for the seasonal plants, the random bits and bobs for your house (like that sucker-dart plastic thing to hold your scrubbies in the kitchen sink), and arts & crafts supplies. I've also picked up gardening tools, electrical supplies (like extension cords) and office supplies. They also have a lot of higher quality items that a dollar store wouldn't--especially of the eco-friendly variety. read more

Welk's is a bit of an amusement park. The variety is the most exciting part and you never know what you're going to find here. It's a bit of a hodgepodge of craft store, novelties and games store, and grocery convenience store. Last time I was here, I walked away with an armload of random but fun things, and was able to find some interesting Christmas gifts. It really is a "general corner store" and one of the best in the GVRD because the quality of products is a fairly higher quality than what one would expect and the variety is amazing considering the store itself isn't that big. Best thing is prices are reasonable and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. read more

It is mind blowing that Welk's is able to consistently have what I need in a space so small. And it's always of good quality and only as expensive as it needs to be. Honestly, I can rarely (if ever) check so many things off the shopping list in stores ten times Welks' size. My only complaint is there isn't another location in my new neighbourhood. read more

Welk's is a fantastic place to find things for your home and kitchen or random odds and ends for the home such as door handles, or shower curtains. They have a toy section where I saw settlers of catan, and vinyl toys. I somehow managed to resist the temptation. Kids crafting stuff, office supplies, gardening tools. Welk's is a general store for the home. They also had moleskin sketchbooks for much cheaper than you can get them anywhere else in Vancouver. Around $20 instead of the typical $24. * hint artists *. You'll find a good selection of baking and homewares, gardening supplies, stationary, and household goods at reasonable prices. Canele pan for $20? Yes. A variety of cast iron pans, dishes, and pots? Yes. Moleskin journals and cutesy notebooks? Yes. You know the veggie spiralizer you've been eyeing? There's two different models. Welk's is very clean, very organized, cheap, and changes with the season. There is quite a wide selection of items. It's a great place to get home decor, cookware, stationary, eco-friendly products and everything in between. It's especially fun to go to Welk's during the Halloween season; there are costumes and accessories, corny decorations, and wigs to be browsed. Definitely recommended to anyone. read more

I've been to Welk's a couple of times now, and haven't been nearly as impressed as other people seem to be. Half of the stock is the same as what you find at dollar stores, but the prices here are 2 - 3 times higher. There are also plenty of items that are dressed up to look trendy, but are priced very high. It's not likely that I'll be stopping in here again. read more

Welk's is perfect for Main Street! They carry everything and for very very very reasonable prices. Glass jars with an airtight sealer thingy for only 99 cents! (for the spices!) Also, they carry a lot of arts and crafts stuff, eg. stamps, scrapbooking and and and canvas boards for painting for really really low prices - lots of sizes too! They have pots, pans, cards, DUCT TAPE!, plants, and even shoes! Definitely a plus to Main Street! read more

I just love, love, love this store. I'm not sure I can even explain what type of store it is...upscale general store without appearing upscale? When you first walk in you may think that it is more along the lines of a Dollarama, but it isn't! They have everything! Why have I not heard of Welks before? I practically stumbled into this place while walking down Main Street. I didn't expect much when going in but wow. The store is big and they it really is quite general, in a good way. They have everything you'd ever need for your house from food to plants to kitchenware to tools to light bulbs to board games! A lot of common household items plus many other unique knick knacks at very reasonable prices. I'm always amazed at what I find at Welk's. Like Dr. Bronners' products? You'll find an impressive selection at Welk's. Need to pick up a last-minute expansion pack to Settlers of Catan or Carcassone? They have that too. Welk's carries a number of products from Burt's Bees, Method and other hard-to-find organic skincare lines. They also has an incredible number of kitchen gadgets and accessories, plus gardening tools, seeds and plants. Everything they have is reasonably priced as well. Came here for tillandsia air plants after searching for flower shops in south Van. Not only did Welk's have my airplants, they have Christmas bows, yoga mats, gifts, cooking supplies, stationary, little erasers shaped like corn... List goes on and on! What a neat store! read more

Welk's is a pretty awesome option for household goods. Moderate prices but way better quality than a dollar store. In addition to their selection of everyday household and garden goods they have some staple condiments and a really nice selection of fun designy-type items - Kikkerland and Umbra home goods, etc. I stop in about once a week just to see what's new! read more

I've always drove (bus) by this store on many occasions, however, finally, thanks to Car free day, walked in. At first I thought that it was an elaborate dollar plus store, however, upon walking in I realized that it is a decent grocery store with market value and prices that are awesome. It is a discount store in the sense as they do carry some traditional dollar store stuff and at the same time, carry an awesome array specialty items like coconut flour. This place is addicting. Soap nuts, Moroccan argan oil, alphabet cookie cutters and Settlers of Catan expansion pack - my last Welk's trip purchases. All things I wanted and either could not find anywhere else or wouldn't pay the prices elsewhere. Late spring this year they had organic veggies in planters you put right into the soil. there is an entire aisle for creams, soaps and other bath products reminiscent of wholefoods but some close to half the cost. But you can also get scrapbooking supplies and spice jars and all the other wonderful things discount stores are known for - really a one stop everything shop. I love Welk's, and really hope the new owners keep replacing the plastic crap with local, environmentally conscious, low waste and organic goodness. read more

What I'll always remember is being allowed in after closing time very near Christmas, with very little time to get things done. They had a great deal on boardgames and I got several, but I would have missed out if the gentleman working that night hadn't been so kind. (I always find the staff there friendly.) I shop here often, they have the best deal on quality beads in the city. There's lots of other unique stuff, some dollar store quality stuff, some good values for household supplies. They have good quality natural toiletries and usually have better prices on them than whole foods. However they are out of the way for me and only accessible on weekends. The reason I am giving them a poor mark is because, when I called to ask for pricing on a product they wouldn't give it to me over the phone, confirming that I had to come into their store to see the price. This place is so cool. At first we almost didn't go in because it just looked like a regular convenient store. Then we went to the record store a few shops over and they were eating delicious some delicious snacks they purchased here. Very disappointed in service today. I realize that this store is not Tiffany's or Holt's - however simple civility is all I expect. I found a packet that was similar to what I was looking for and approached a staff member as I needed the same product in plastic. When I asked " do you have this in plastic?" The staff member said "no" . I then found a whole wall of the product in plastic - what I was looking for. I took one of the packages to the same staff member and showed her. She said, and I quote "oh" - that was it. I will not be back - why should I?? read more
