I just love this store! Many of the artisan or unique household accessories I've personally looked up online in the past few months were actually here on display, available for purchase! The types of items stocked here are totally down my alley, so I admit, I am biased. I love modern, clever, functional, non-fussy things, items with clean lines, nothing superfluous (I hate clutter. So things have to be practical!), smart and contemporary. It's like the buyer at this shop totally read my mind. I loved practically everything here. They have the coolest binoculars, lightweight puff blankets in a bag (light as a feather. Really!), candles, decanters, baskets, placemats and trivets and coasters, reflective tags and pins, cards, stunning jewelry, thick "butcher" aprons with the coolest hardware clips, organic baby linen bundles and gifts, contemporary tea infusers, glassware, adult card games and notebooks.... I could go on and on. Everything is cool here and beautiful to look at. The ladies who work here were all super nice and totally let us browse at our leisure. They were also very knowledgeable about all the merchandise. I've seen some of these items at local craft fairs, so I know they are locally made, by local artisans. This store is a hidden treasure! There are many unique little trinkets here along-side some popular must haves. Definitely a place to go for the hard-to-shop-for person on your list. Walrus is a great new store on Cambie, focused mostly on small things you'd use in your house or give as gifts. They have lovely tealight holders, bowls, ceramics, vases, design books and jewelry, among many other things. This isn't a comprehensive home decor store, but more a place you'd go to find a lovely gift for someone or a treat for yourself. Everything has been chosen by someone with an outstanding eye for design -- you can't go wrong. The textures of the bowls & ceramics make you want to pick them up and touch them. In some ways the mix reminds me of Vancouver Special over on Main (without furniture). But the pieces at Walrus are polished, stylish and distinctive without screaming their modernist credentials quite as much. Best of all, their prices are quite reasonable. I got a lovely serving bowl that looked like stone -- actually made of crushed stone & resin -- for $30. They carry a fair number of small things for under $20. All in all, I'd say they're a great addition to Cambie Village. read more

Walrus is my go-to stop for unique gifts. There's something for everyone here, truly. From jewellery and lotions to home decor, it's all thoughtfully curated and I appreciate that they bring in unique items. I even found some items that I saw online that I thought were only available in Europe. Plus, the owners are sweet and helpful and you don't feel like you're being pushed to buy things. Just prior to Christmas I called to see how late they were open so I could do some Christmas shopping. Even though they were closing in 10 minutes, Caroline told me to come down anyway since there were some other people still in the store and they'd stay open for me. Great service! read more

I went to this store trying to find "Native" brand shoes. They had a good selection, although not the color I wanted, but the owner explained to me that the company only sends out certain colors at a time and the ones I wanted, yellow ones, would be sent out soon. He took my name and number and said he would hold a pair for me when they come in. I had been into 4 other stores looking for a yellow pair and not one of them told me that the color wasn't being shipped yet. SO, a big thank you for being honest with me and helping me out. I still bought a pair in another color I liked for a trip I was going on. And will buy the yellow ones once I get the call that they are in. I appreciate owners being honest and letting me know that a product isn't available and risking the chance of losing a sale instead of just pushing another product on me. They had lots of cute things for gifts and for spoiling yourself. Good prices and the owner is great. I will be back for sure. read more

Walrus is my go-to gift store when I want to fung something to impress upon a friend or colleague. Caroline is wonderful and her taste is exquisite. Be mindful that the store is not for everyone - it is reserved for those who appreciate the finer things and don't mind spending a bit more to get quality. This little store is a hidden gem in the Cambie village neighborhood. I just finished lunch and passed by and I saw what interesting little things they had by the display window. I quickly went inside to discover a whole new world of uniqueness and cuteness!! Their products ranges from accessories such as umbrellas, jewelry by local artists, home decors to jars of honey etc. Their products are more one of a kind, things I haven't seen before and believe me when I say that because I do like to shop a lot from all over town! Store is tiny but well-kept, clean and modern-looking. The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon with customers browsing in the store with complimentary coffee and cookies. Price range is reasonable, I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for something I can't always get my hands on. Street and side parking available. read more

I received the Weekly Yelp in my inbox this morning on the theme of shopping local and was reminded, by my own quote, how great Walrus is. Good one, me. Inspired, I dropped in for a return visit and it's still as great as it ever was. The man that works here, who I assume is the owner, is the kind of person that's so nice it makes you want to cry. You know that kind of person? That's actually so nice that you just want to cry for no reason other than their niceness? No? Just me? Okay. Moving on...they continue to stock a great selection of Canadian items. All of their jewelry cases are unlocked so that you don't have to worry about hassling an employee just to look at the pretty things, and you are totally free to browse in peace, unless you have questions, in which case they will be answered by a lovely and knowledgeable employee. Upon first glance, Walrus may seem like a modern minimalist store with hip and expensive useless trinkets like the Yaletown counterparts it seems to mirror. This can not be further from the truth. The store is cleanly laid out with a good retail traffic flow in mind. The shopkeepers are friendly, passionate, and knowledgeable. There are quite a few useless trinkets, but all well-designed, reasonably-priced, and just so darned pretty! Keep an eye out for up-and-coming items from local designers at this place. read more

GREAT customer service! I go to Walrus to purchase the Urbanears headphones. Every time I visit, the staff are friendly and helpful. There are many unique gift items as well, with a focus on local brands. Today, I went in because I broke my last pair of headphones. As I was looking over the colors, the lady behind the counter asked if I was familiar with the product. When I told her that they are by far my most favorite brand and that I needed to replace the ones I broke she asked to see the old ones and offered to replace them FOR FREE! I reiterated that it was "user abuse" and therefore not acceptable for return and she said "don't worry about it, just make sure you have the color you like." I was absolutely amazed that she turned down the opportunity to make a $70 sale. It was a random act of kindness that will keep me coming back as a loyal customer.
