Had the absolute worst experience ever here I'm mind blown. Harassed by a self checkout attendant for using the handheld scanner on my heavy cat litter. She called over several employees and security to count my items because I scanned my cat litter with the hand scanner. She harassed me and embarassed me the last time I came here too, the exact same lady for the same issue. I spend $300/week at this location, tons of other places would treat you better as a regular customer in this competitive economy, I'll never be shopping at Walmart again. There were lots of little inconveniences in this Wal-mart that need to be fixed. Some of the shopping carts were busted. I put my dollar loonie coin token in the slot and the darn key lock wouldn't come out. Luckily it worked on the other cart beside it. They made a huge change in the checkout area where they converted a large portion of the regular registers into a huge self checkout area. Kinda disappointed at this change since i almost never use self checkout. Granted, it was a little late at 9:30pm, but there were no full serve regular registers available at the time. (only if you pay in actual cash, which i didnt have.) The staff person was nice and rung up my items for me after i requested help. Avoid Wal-mart's homemade pastries! Their cherry turnovers were improperly baked making them super hard to bite into. The amount of cherry filling inside was also lacking. I felt i wasted $6. As i was making my way to the parking lot with my items, i got a unpleasant surprise because there was that fight broke out between the security gaurd and some brazen shoplifters. The shoplifters ran into the wrong store door so it didnt open but they still managed to force themselves out eventually. The security guard tried to grab their stolen goods in a epic tug-of-war match and ultimately lost. The shoplifters got away! Kudos to the security gaurd for trying to stop them. It was a 4 vs. 1 tug of war so he was outnumbered. Also kudos for him vigilantly shooing away people that didn't wear a face mask, which was required, during covid19 . On the plus side, I found a good $2 off deal on shampoo. But best of all, I got a great deal on Purex toilet paper, and there were still plenty left. Got a few packs to use during the second pandemic wave. And yes, you can buy more than one! Score! Overall not bad...3/5. read more

I planned to go there with cash to buy a Samsung S8 tablet. I was directed to the mobile area to get customer service. I was ignored because their supervisor or some lady was arguing with another staff. A third staff was just watching and nobody bothered to pay attention. I raised my voice to ask for help and i was deliberately ignored. Seriously?!?! What kind of service is Walmart providing these days?????!!!?!!??! A drama series for customers to watch and neglect to help??? Horrible... Walmart, that was like $1500 of business that could have been gained but this money went to Best Buy instead, i drove further and got great service from Best Buy. Surprised to find this by accident. It's an outdoor mall which reminds me of KaKa'ako in Hawaii where there is outdoor/indoor parking and shops around a big super center. Walmart is on the upstairs so you need to take an escalator up. There is a McCafe downstairs. read more

I have to say that having a Walmart around the area of Grandview Hwy and Rupert has definately helped the area. Before, this building was a Costco, and if you were not a member, you were not getting in, and you were probably shopping at Superstore up the block. Once people heard that Walmart was going to be there, I think the first thing was fear, as Walmart is known as a business killer, I think that it has made this area become more competitive, and also gives people options as to where to shop. If you really wanted to shop, and spend acouple hours, you could start at Walmart, loop to the Price Smart, then end of at Superstore. They all practically offer the same thing, or variants of things. This Walmart tries to offer everything, from produce, to meat, to a bakery, and all the other things accoustomed to this type of store. When you walk in you realize that this is just one big box of a store. High ceilings, cement floor, isles that stretch right to the end, and you think, was Costco, when they were here, this big? The parking is ok, as I would rather find parking here, than go into the Superstore lot. The location is pretty hidden, as if you didn't know the area, and you were driving on Grandview Hwy, you wouldn't see the store, as it is on lower ground. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! (for context i am a african american woman) Me and my (white) friend were checking out our groceries while the other checkouts weren't being used at all. We were both minding our business checking at 2 self checkout tills beside eachother and mind you we both didn't have a lot, maybe 6 items each. We then pay for our stuff at the exact same time and as soon as my receipt came out of the machine this older woman snatches it out and starts reading my receipt before i could even grab it ASSUMING i didn't scan the laundry detergent i bought. This is one of the more unusual Walmarts out there for sure. Parking is plentiful in the lot out front. So what makes this one so unusual? The supermarket section. I had no idea Walmart sells produce? Haven't seen this anywhere else except possibly China. Even though I went around 2200, the place was crowded as if it were 1700. Awesome. With that said, prices were not cheap at all. I ended up buying nothing in this section. The store also sells electronics, arts and crafts, home and garden, and hardware. Pretty much the same stuff Canadian Tire and Superstore would sell. Those 2 stores (both nearby, of course) have some serious competition. One funny note: they sell Wong Wing frozen "Asian" food here. I'm really not sure how Asian the McCain plant in New Brunswick is, but last time I checked, it's on the opposite side of the world from China. Anyways, just sayin'. Reminds me of this restaurant in Vegas called Ping Pang Pong (I'm serious, look it up). Anyways, I digress. If you're in the area, it may be worth your while. read more

I used to like shopping at this location. Lot's of parking. Good enough selection. Fruits were fresh and good quality. Poultry decently prized. It's walmart so prices were fine. But lately it's become a hassle to shop here. Unclean. Rude and sloppy staff. Checkout counters are dirty with spilled food from previous customer. They don't even bother to clean up after the customer unless you ask them to. Even then they do sloppy work. Checkout staff don't respect boundaries. They keep asking things like why I bought so much groceries. Do I have a shop (no I don't!). Pressuring me to get Walmart credit card. No boundaries. And a new hassle. They've stopped me at the exit asking me to show my receipt. This only happened once when I first started shopping at this location years ago. I've been coming here for several years and racking up huge bill with every visit. They used to be courteous. Never hassled me like that. It's time to switch to Costco. Easily the worst service in many years for me. Ordered photos (only $12 worth) and went to pick them up. Machine was broken and she told me that it will take days to get serviced. No problem, it happens. Needed photos quickly and would now need to order from Costco. You prepay with Wal Mart for photos. No problem. Now give me my refund as you cannot develop my photos for a number of days and I will cancel this order. She can't do it. Tells me to phone the 1-800 service number. That service call was directed to Manila, Philippines. After 30 minutes, she says all orders are final. Cannot refund. She tried to phone the store in Canada and could not get through. Apparently she had to verify my story. Asked for manager in the Philippines. After another 20 minutes with him, he said he would look into it and phone me later in the evening. Only after I told him that if I didn't get a refund, then I would go back to the store and speak with them. What a runaround for $12. Will never, ever use their photo service again. read more

Never the less, it has become the inevitable result of a world searching for the best deals available. To some, Walmart is a Mega-corp bully engaging in questionable and exploitative practices on its way to become one of the largest business in the world with over 400 billion in yearly revenues! Over 100 million people shop at Walmart in any given week in the US alone. Critics allegedly said Walmart under pays employees and forced some to work unpaid overtime. The fact is that the company's pay is slightly below the industry average but it's understandable when most of the stores are located in lower income/wages areas. It is also commonly said that Walmart squeezes vendors and forcing them to produces goods at lower prices in third world countries. WalMart also hurts small communities by forcing mom and pop stores out of business. Well, that's the nature of a free economy. People are free to buy where they want; there's a BC owned Price Smart and a Canadian Tire across the street from this Walmart. The "soul" of a community is based on the actions of the people that live there. There must be a reason why they choose to buy stuff from Walmart instead of other places. The public is better served with a wider selection of goods at lower prices. Walmart does tend to have lower prices then the competition on a lot of items. For example on a recent trip, a 2.95 L of Tide detergent cost about $12.00 compare to $16 at Zellers, Safeway, and Price smart. I bought some blackberries and blueberries for $2 compared to $5-6 at Safeway. I really like the location of this Walmart as it's literally side by side with Price Smart, Canadian Tire and Superstore. It really gives people more choices to shop for the lowest price and keeps the competition on it toes. Overall, Walmart is on average better for the local economy it serves. It helps consumers get more for their hard earned money and it stimulates it's suppliers to achieve greater efficiencies for lower prices that can be passed on to consumers. Walmart is an example of how capitalism is supposed to work and something Adam Smith would agreed upon in that the exchange of goods at low prices benefit both parties. read more

Well, this will be getting one star since zero isn't an option. The staff in this particular Walmart, are the most incompetent swines I have ever had the pleasure of NOT BEING HELPED BY. All I wanted was one person to show me where the rice paper was, since I spent 15 minutes in the ethnic aisle looking for it without such luck. So I jaunt over to customer service where the lady told me it was in with baking supplies, weird flex, but aiight bet. Would you be surprised it wasn't there? So I walk my fat ass back to customer service where I waited for 10 minutes so she could call someone to help me, not her fault she was a bit busy and alone. No one comes. She says it's in the ethnic aisle.... Okay but like can you HELP ME FIND IT LIKE I HAVE ASKED BECAUSE ITS YOUR FUCKING JOB?!?!?!!!??!!??!! I would give zero stars if I could. I have never had a more horrible experience than at this store. I ordered a calendar from the photo centre a few months ago as a gift and they neglected to call me to let me know it was ready. After a week of waiting I called and could get no answer from the photo centre. I tried 3 TIMES throughout the day and the phone just kept ringing. Finally I called customer service and after waiting 30 mins was able to speak to a manager who told me the calendar was there after all. I thought of giving them another chance this month which was a huge mistake. I should have learned my lesson. I ordered a calendar on Monday and waited a week for it (despite them saying 2-4 business days) thinking if I give them a little more time maybe they would contact me and actually give me the proper customer service I paid for. NOPE. I showed up in person on the Saturday to pick up my CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR MY FAMILY ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY LOST MY CALENDAR. The real cherry on top was that I was made to wait 30 mins by two incompetent employees working the online grocery checkout till since no one was at the photo centre to help... AGAIN. I left my information with them to have a manager contact me and heard nothing for 3 days. I tried calling again today and was made to wait on hold AGAIN lol needless to say I learned my lesson. The staff at this location are useless and do not care. The management are even more useless. It is so embarrassing that Walmart has such a catastrophic excuse of a store operating with their brand name. I am always defending retail and retail workers but this experience was just too much not to share. I even tried giving a second chance lol DO NOT SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED CASH HERE. I went to the drive thru to pick up my online order. Once I got there, I had to call, a guy came a min later and got my order number and went to pick up my order. For some reason it did take 30 mins for him to get my order. I thought the drive thru was suppose to be faster and convenient for customers. Next time, if the item is in stock. I won't even do an online order. I would just go there and get the item on the shelf and lineup and pay for it. That might be faster. It shouldn't take 30 mins for the guy to get my order. read more

Will give 2 stars for benefit of the doubt and small merits after my first visit, but in most regards, consider this visit a 1 star experience. We will start with the positive: - location is good with lots of parking and near many other retailers so errands can be done together - large selection and quantity of products .... and that's about it Moving on to the not so impressive: - quality of products available could hardly be considered average, even considering it's walmart and it's a discount retailer! - store organization and tidiness is 'not good' at best, though I suspect this is to do with the shoppers' behaviours as much as the store's doing - signage around the store and on products is both poor and inconsistent (e.g. I found the same product with 3 different prices at various areas: $22, $18, $19) - prices for a non-insignificant count of items are a clear cut ABOVE other retailers (Shoppers, Superstore, No Frills, Home Depot, Best Buy, Dollarama) if you know the going rates - product advertised as available in store on the site are not available (I'll admit that this is not so much the store's fault as discrepancy in technology, but still irritating to experience as an end user) I'm honestly very confused as to how Walmart is making money if it's not through the pursuit of high volume sales of products at (advertised) EDLPs. Is this not the competitive strategy of Walmart anymore and I'm simply not aware? Sigh. Confused. Benefit of the doubt given for now. I'll return and see what's up... read more

Worst walmart I've ever been to. There is hardly any parking in the lot and the whole thing just looks so ghetto compared to the one they built around the same time in White rock. Shopping in the store, everything seems dimly let. There was an instance in which my girlfriend went to get some dish soap and there was a huge support beam in the way of the products they had laid out. Walmart is one of biggest chain grocery retailer, but, there is no store really nearby my house. They have great selection of low-quality merchandise and groceries. The service is friendly and price is reasonable. Based on my first time shopping experience, I was quite disappointed. I saw instant oatmeal was on sale (buy 1 get 1 free) and bought 6 packs of it. When I rang it at cashier, it charged full price on each pack. I told the staff, it's on sale. However, she told me the promotion was expired yesterday. She called the floor manager over and found the price tag didn't remove by mistake. Therefore, they honour the price for few packs of oatmeal to me. However, I was standing at the casher almost 20 mins and waited for them to check out the price and override the system. Well... 20 mins to save me $6 bucks! Worth it? read more

I will never shop at this walmart Metrotown store even though it is across my place and convenient. However their unacceptable no return policy is illegal, and total crap! I purchased a light bulb package of 2, and a manual food chopper last year, March 2020. When I tried both items only once at home to see if they work, the chopper did not do the job well, and the bulb colour was not what I wanted. After a few days I went to the same store to return the items (Of course after cleaning the chopper well), they said they would not refund me my money because I opened the packages. I asked them how else I could figure out if they work or not. Then I threw both items in the garbage bin in front of them, and left the store for good. An absolute BS! It is highly non recommended. Waste of time and money. I got the customer service rep and her boss' names whom I will report to the head office today. Avoid at any cost. read more

So, it's kind of a shock to me as well that I'm giving a Walmart store a four star. Maybe because in Canada people are just more friendly. The employees are very helpful and super friendly unlike the Walmart employees in California. This review is base on my experience shopping at this Walmart location in Vancouver, plus I'm also comparing it to the Walmart I been to in California. First of all this Walmart has tons of parking space and it's is super Chinese so I felt right at home. They sold Vitasoy box drinks, the Chinese brand of Jasmine rice and they have the legit rice cooker, so freakin cool! They had tons of good deals as well. This store was very clean and organize, produce was very fresh as well. For a moment while I was shopping, I forgot it was a Walmart (I'm a Target Wh0re). The bathroom here was very well taken care of when I went. It was clean, lemon scent and it wasn't broken down like some Walmarts. My friends and I decide to drop by to Walmart before we headed back to our suite. We wanted some items and end up buying snacks and water, which both was very easy to locate in the store. I don't know why all the 2 stars. I think the locals should check out our Walmarts in California so they'll appreciate their Walmart after seeing ours. LOL, It was fun to see how different their signs are when things are on clearance. But either way I'm a fan and I would definitely come back to this Walmart location if I was ever in the area. I went to the store today(10pm) to buy 3 small canister of bbq propane that was on special for $10 for 3. It was a 4ft long shelf with a sign across the shelf with the discounted $10 for 3 cans. I proceeded to the checkout and the female cashier rang up the price of over $18 total for the 3 cans so I notified her of the price on the rack then she left her check out counter to investigate while a line of over 10 customers were in line behind me. 10 minutes later a man called himself the store manager showed up telling me there he is not aware of the price and as me to show him and a 3rd employee of this price as he has no idea where this item is stocked. I find it ridiculous that after 25 minutes was wasted with customers in line waiting and 3 paid employees and forcing a customer to walk from the longest possible NW corner of the store to SE corner and back to show a whole 4ft long shelf price tag. Also the manager was busy texting on his phone while dealing with me. And no apologies. I guess when you want good prices, quality or intelligence doesn't come with it.... Failed!! read more

I don't see why some people are so down on this Walmart location. In terms of other Walmart's I've been to, it's not bad. It's not super clean, but I wouldn't say it is overly dirty either. There's a decent amount of parking in front of the store, but if you can't find a spot there's a few spaces along the left side of the store, as well as on the street. As for stock, they seem to have a decent amount of groceries, cleaning supplies, electronics, kitchen supplies, and pharmaceuticals. The pricing is all over the map, sometimes it's really cheap here, and sometimes you're better off going to Superstore or Save On Foods. As I recommend in other yelp reviews, definitely check out the flyers every week. My husband and I will stop here after Costco to pick up grocery items that we don't want a massive supply of, particularly milk, eggs, and fruits and vegetables. As for the check outs, their express line moves relatively fast. Walmart is really good at having lots of tills open. I don't think my husband and I have waited in line longer than 10 minutes, even on a really busy day. I do wish they had a larger book section, since it's pretty small at this location. I know people have ethical issues with Walmart, but outside of that, there are many worse stores you could go to. read more

This is the ugliest Wal-Mart that I have walked into. It looks like a Costco and the floors are ugly. Not an inviting environment. It also still makes me weirded out that you can buy your groceries at Wal-Mart. The guy I am dating did some research on his phone to find a battery that I needed for my car this weekend. He found the battery at this and another location (the other location doesn't have a yelp page so this is a 2 in 1 entry). My step dad and I went to both locations and neither had the battery in stock in spite of the website saying that they did. When we asked for assistance, there was non to be had. When someone did decide to give us the time of day, they weren't an expert in cars, or anything for that matter. There was a language barrier and they almost sold us a different battery that would've fried the engine. His attitude was, "We have a book, go look it up, I am busy." Fair enough. The customer book is there for a reason, however, when it came to looking up my model of car, the entries and options were confusing and I just needed a little more guidance. My dad and I just walked out due to the really ignorant, arrogant and spaced out customer service. Not to mention that they didn't have the product their website clearly said they had. First note of warning.. do not come on a weekend! It is crazy! That being said.. I'm not quite sure why I always seem to come on a weekend. Sigh. This is your typical big box chain store. Selling everything from groceries to beauty products to car maintenance supplies. It tortures my very soul to cave in but, when you're looking at the bottom dollar, Walmart can not be beat. Seriously. The selection of groceries is pretty impressive. It's not as good as say.. Superstore but, you do find a wide selection of staples. Produce however, is limited. I prefer to purchase my produce from the farm markets as most of the stuff at Walmart comes imported. The Supercentre is big! And you can easily lose yourself for hours. I suggest bringing a shopping list because if you don't.. you will be all the more tempted to do the impulse purchase of whatever Walmart has decided to put on super discount. How did I miss this Walmart before? One night before Christmas I had to hit it up - it is tradition to go to Walmart at some absurd time when it's open 24 hours. In this case it was because I needed rice crackers and Swifter Wet Jet liquid. I totally forgot super Walmart had a full grocery store. So my likes were cheap cream cheese, a decent selection of gluten free food at a very reasonable price (comparatively), and their dried fruit and nuts. My usual pesto was also here, also cheap. I was so loaded with groceries we didn't really get to look at other stuff. And some rude customer and dropped the worst fart ever in the pasta aisle which had me gagging while locating my pesto then evacuating as quickly as possible after I found it. So the customer service at ANY Wal-Mart is never great but this one experience over the phone was the most confusing interaction I have ever had within any store. I know...sooooooo white trash of me to give a Wal-Mart 5 stars..and I won't apologize for it 'cause this new Super Center rocks my world and makes me smile:) For years Wal-Mart has been trying to open a store in Vancouver to much debate and out cry from local business' and residence...well..I am sure to the dismay of some..they finally found a home and opened this weekend..and I for one and super excited they did!! It must be the prairie boy in me..there is just something about Wal-Mart that makes me so happy...and this uber Wal-Mart takes the cake...they have everything..even a full grocery department...the cheapest meat I have ever seem..6 pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts for $7.99??? and it's fresh...CRAZY!!!!!!! They are certainly going to give Super Store a run for their money... Of course they carry all the usual Wal-Mart stuff.....home appliances..clothes...electronics..shoes...out door furniture...plants...it really is a one stop shop..and boy did I shop!!! One complaint...I was wanted to buy a vacuum and there was no stock on the floor..so I stopped a lady in a Wal-Mart uniform and asked for help..she said it wasn't her department and I should find someone else..I had already been looking for someone for 10 mins I told her...she suggested that I continue to look or come back later...hmmmm...not exactly top notch service but I guess what should I expect..it's Wal-Mart...I did eventually find someone and I am now the proud owner of a Bissel bag less easy vac! Open late, lots of parking, and so close to home. This is a supercentre so you'll find more produce and foods than the big Walmart in New Westminster. Their cosmetic/beauty aisles are usually well stocked and organized , I spend a lot of time there perusing nail polishes (obsessed with the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails for $2.77) Produce is generally pretty fresh, great prices comparable to Superstore but I would say better quality. We've purchased meat here too a few times because of the smaller packages when we are looking to make small meals for just the two of us. The bakery dept leaves something to be desired though, everything always looks kind of stale like it's been sitting out for a while and the baguettes or other bread items we've purchased in the past are not that great. Customer service isn't bad here, the employees are helpful enough if you have a question but I've found that they're not that knowledgeable (asked some questions in Electronics last time and couldn't really get an answer). This is probably just lack of training though. All in all this location is very convenient for us and we manage to get in and out pretty quickly! read more
