I have to say that having a Walmart around the area of Grandview Hwy and Rupert has definately helped the area. Before, this building was a Costco, and if you were not a member, you were not getting in, and you were probably shopping at Superstore up the block. Once people heard that Walmart was going to be there, I think the first thing was fear, as Walmart is known as a business killer, I think that it has made this area become more competitive, and also gives people options as to where to shop. If you really wanted to shop, and spend acouple hours, you could start at Walmart, loop to the Price Smart, then end of at Superstore. They all practically offer the same thing, or variants of things. This Walmart tries to offer everything, from produce, to meat, to a bakery, and all the other things accoustomed to this type of store. When you walk in you realize that this is just one big box of a store. High ceilings, cement floor, isles that stretch right to the end, and you think, was Costco, when they were here, this big? The parking is ok, as I would rather find parking here, than go into the Superstore lot. The location is pretty hidden, as if you didn't know the area, and you were driving on Grandview Hwy, you wouldn't see the store, as it is on lower ground.

This is Walmart is ok. If you need help then I am sorry. You won't get help. You have to rely on yourself. It seems like most of the employees are responsible for ringing the good in or hiding in the back. I mean to pay is great, line up is not long. This Walmart is big. It used to be Costco but now is Walmart. No photography studio.

Walmart gives consumers the lowest prices at an arguable cost. Whether Walmart is good or bad for the economy or society as a whole is debatable. Never the less, it has become the inevitable result of a world searching for the best deals available. To some, Walmart is a Mega-corp bully engaging in questionable and exploitative practices on its way to become one of the largest business in the world with over 400 billion in yearly revenues! Over 100 million people shop at Walmart in any given week in the US alone. Critics allegedly said Walmart under pays employees and forced some to work unpaid overtime. The fact is that the company's pay is slightly below the industry average but it's understandable when most of the stores are located in lower income/wages areas. It is also commonly said that Walmart squeezes vendors and forcing them to produces goods at lower prices in third world countries. WalMart also hurts small communities by forcing mom and pop stores out of business. Well, that's the nature of a free economy. People are free to buy where they want; there's a BC owned Price Smart and a Canadian Tire across the street from this Walmart. The "soul" of a community is based on the actions of the people that live there. There must be a reason why they choose to buy stuff from Walmart instead of other places. The public is better served with a wider selection of goods at lower prices. Walmart does tend to have lower prices then the competition on a lot of items. For example on a recent trip, a 2.95 L of Tide detergent cost about $12.00 compare to $16 at Zellers, Safeway, and Price smart. I bought some blackberries and blueberries for $2 compared to $5-6 at Safeway. I really like the location of this Walmart as it's literally side by side with Price Smart, Canadian Tire and Superstore. It really gives people more choices to shop for the lowest price and keeps the competition on it toes. Overall, Walmart is on average better for the local economy it serves. It helps consumers get more for their hard earned money and it stimulates it's suppliers to achieve greater efficiencies for lower prices that can be passed on to consumers. Walmart is an example of how capitalism is supposed to work and something Adam Smith would agreed upon in that the exchange of goods at low prices benefit both parties.

I really like this store.....I know most people hate these big corporate places but I'm just a poor asian dude trying get to a bowl of rice! Their selection is pretty good and it really is tough to beat most of their prices and it's open til 11pm (could be later though).

I got lost finding my way here because on Google Maps, it shows a marker of the store but in reality it's a TD bank. The building has very few signage telling customers where Pharmasave is. I assumed it was on street level until I went around the rear of the building and saw people walking up stairs. There was a tiny sign at the back lot that said "retail shops". I find out that I circled back where I came from to the front of the street. I hope whoever is in charge of the building signage can put better signs. I only realized the store was downstairs in the basement level when I saw customers going down the escalator to somewhere. There was no obvious shop sign with the pharmasave logo on it anywhere near the front entrance or inside the building. They really put better signage. What's interesting about this shop is that they have a huge and wide front entrance but they closed the store gates all the way until the cashier area. I guess it was a makeshift way of reducing theft in the other areas of the store. It sort of looked like the store was going to close soon because of this. I liked that this store has so many items. They were way more types of items than i thought they would have. From the top of my head, they got processed foods like chips, snacks, energy bars, candy, and chocolates. Then they got health related stuff, bathroom item area, cosmetics area, men's and women's accessories area, a well-stocked pharmacy with lots of supplements, many over the counter medicine, plus much more. I like that pharmasave recently started collecting air miles loyalty points. The staff were trained very well on how to process the points. Pharmasave only started collecting Air miles a week before my visit in September while other Pharmasave locations were still figuring out how to add it to their system. Kudos to the store manager for getting the air miles system implemented quickly at this location. The service here was good when I checked out my items. The staff lady was quick in getting me through checkout and was pretty friendly. She helped me point out some questions I had about my receipt and thanked me for coming. It would have been nice if there were more staff in other parts of the store to help me in case case I had any questions about items i see on the shelf, but it looks like there's only 3 staff total. 1 pharmacist, a store manager, and a cashier/clerk. What i didn't like were the prices. I found a couple things that were ranging from a little overpriced to extremely overpriced. A quick google search on my phone showed that some items were almost double the price of competitors. A bottle of shampoo I like to buy was $9 at Pharmasave but was only $5 on Amazon. On the other hand, there were interesting niche finds. I saw an ancient TV antenna cable that you can only find in few electronic shops hidden in the clearance section. Also, a pack of Blank burnable DVD's were only 80 cents. After about half an hour of looking for something decent to buy at a reasonable price, I got a cliff bar and some hand wipes that were cheaper than competitors. The cliff bar was $1 each but were almost expired, but the hand wipes on sale were cheaper than anywhere else. 5 packs of hand wipes and a cliff bar were only $12 after tax. Not bad! They were not advertised in any flyer so I'm pretty glad i found a hidden find. Finding hidden gems in mostly overpriced stores are kinda exciting in a way. I felt like a treasure hunter of deals of sorts. I give this Pharmasave 4 out of 5 stars based on this visit. They should install better signage outside the building so customers won't get lost finding it for the first time, like I did. I appreciate that the staff are friendly and efficient at scanning their newly added Air Miles loyalty points, which is better than some other branches. The store is one of the biggest Pharmasaves in Metro Vancouver, so you're likely to find the item you're looking for. Some prices are outrageously high, but it's worth it if you're willing to browse through the hundreds of items for unadvertised discounts on the shelves and items with little red handwritten clearance priced stickers. If you're a "hidden gem" hunter, this store is for you!

They were so different in quality that it wasn't even the same dish. The egg itself tasted like rubber and the salmon was super dehydrated. The sourdough was so stale that I didn't touch it and bought a croissant from the bakery instead.
