I spent my Friday evening at my favourite nail spa. The technicians were very busy when I arrived for my appointment. I was running late, so I wasn't concerned about it. It worked out for my plans actually. The owner kept reassuring me that the wait wouldn't be very long, and it wasn't. It was nice to wind down on the couch for a bit before starting my mani / pedi. Lina worked on my pedicure, and Nancy did my manicure. Both women were so thorough and friendly. My appointment ran past the shop's closing time, but neither one made me feel like I was an inconvenience, nor did they rush my service. I walked out of there feeling relaxed and refreshed. This is such an amazing place to go to, everyone is so very friendly. I highly recommend this shop. read more

A staff member humiliated a customer who was there as a belated Mother's Day/birthday gift. The staff member talked so loudly that the whole salon could hear what she was saying... how the customer smelled of alcohol and she was getting "high" off her smell. The customer had had a very small glass of wine before coming in. Resulted in the customer leaving crying. So horrible. read more

What a dump. And "welcome" nails is far from how they will make you feel. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place, unless you enjoy being abused by the staff. read more

Made an appointment the same day, and they gladly took me. Upon arriving I did have to wait 20 minutes, but I was not in a rush so I didn't mind. Ellen did a great job on my nails, she was very gentle (something that not all nail technicians are) and careful, and I am very happy with my manicure, especially considering the state my nails were when I walked in. Good pricing, good customer service, but they do live up the rumour that there's a good chance you'll wait. Not recommended for someone who wants to walk in and be out quick, but otherwise fantastic work. Would definitely go back. read more

Cannot speak to the quality of their work as I walked out after it became apparent that they had no intention of honoring my appointment in a timely manner. Around 12:30 today my mother called me and offered to take my sons for a couple of hours so I could get my nails done. Once a month or so she makes this offer if she finds space in her schedule. Usually on a Monday and usually with very little notice. Normally I have no problem getting a last minute appointment on a Monday, but today was a statutory holiday and the first two places I called were booked up. I got on yelp and found Welcome Nails. The location was a bit far for me but the reviews were very positive. I called them at 12:40 and asked if they had room for a gel color polish change, hands and feet. The woman said yes, I could come down right away. When I said it would take me a bit to get there, she asked when I could come in. I figured by the time my mom drove over and I bussed out there that I could be there by 2. She said that would be fine and I was pretty happy to have found an appointment. I walked in at 1:55 and a woman I assumed to be the owner looked up from the pedicure she was working on and said "gel polish, yes?" I said I had an appointment for 2 and was told to take a seat at the front of the shop. All of the stations had customers at them so I assumed that someone would finish up soon. By 2:15 no one had given any indication of seeing to me. The customer in the pedicure chair closest to the front saw me looking around and apologized to me. She said something to the gist of, sorry, it's our fault your appointment is late because they agreed to do all four of us. I took a closer look and turns out that all four pedicure chairs had women in them that weren't even half way through their pedicures. These ladies had only begun their pedicures 15 or 20 minutes before I walked in. The woman who had greeted me at the door brought me the nail color wheel to choose my colors from at this point, but neither apologized for the wait nor gave any other indication that I'd be seen to any time soon. When I got up to walk out at 2:20 (I wasn't really interested in finding out if it would be another 20, 30, or 40 minutes before they got to me) the owner was apologetic and said that she could start on me right away. I'm not sure how, all the stations had unfinished customers sitting in them, unless she was going to ask someone to vacate a chair mid-pedi. That wouldn't have been right either. I said I didn't want to stay any longer and said that she shouldn't have taken my appointment. I could have found someplace else. She had agreed to take me at 2, both myself and my mother planned around that, I bussed for nearly 45 minutes to get to an out of the way (though well reviewed) salon, and I got there to find that less than half an hour before my appointment she agreed to take four clients with no regard to my appointment at all. She didn't care about my time and I definitely no longer felt like giving her my money. read more

I was a customer at Welcome Nails for almost two years, but that abruptly stopped after my last visit. After receiving a finger nail colour change and pedi, both with shellac polish, I woke up the next morning to bumps and blood filled bumps all over my legs. They started at my ankle and went to just below my knee. They were absolutely everywhere, small and incredibly itchy. I had to go to the clinic, and then have blood drawn. After letting them know what I had done the evening before, I was told that when the baths they soak your legs in are not properly cleaned, THIS is what happens. He gave me antibiotics and told me to expect puss and blood, itchiness, and redness. I was not allowed to shave my legs for a week to avoid further irritation, and had to avoid any open water (including pools, oceans, and of course, another pedicure). He also said I would have to expect some scarring from the severeness of my outbreak. I have pictures of my legs 6 days after the initial outbreak, and you can see the sheer number of bumps and blood bumps there are, even after almost a week of antibiotics. To top it all off, my nail polish chipped the next morning, on both big toes. It literally just flaked off, and I'd only worn flip flops at this point. This was a complete nightmare. I now need to pay someone else to fix my polish because I refuse to ever put my feet back in their tubs ever again. To say the least, I am absolutely devastated and disgusted. I had a wedding two days later in Osoyoos, so I had to wear pants from the severeness of bumps and redness, and I couldn't go in the water. I also was to avoid the sun because of the antibiotics. This RUINED my trip, and was so incredibly painful. As a side note, I have never written a review before, but I felt needed to pass this along as a serious warning about the consequences of unclean baths. My doctor also clarified, for those of you who are wondering, that this was not an allergic reaction, but an infection to the "breeding ground that unclean spas harbor when not properly sanitized". read more

I decided to treat myself to a birthday mani/pedi last week at Welcome Nails. They were not able to take me the same day as I wanted, so I booked for the day after and that was fine. I have been getting my nails done here since last summer and I have always been happy with the results, however this time I was pretty disappointed. I usually book Dina for my pedi and end up getting someone else for my manicure, but I had always left feeling satisfied with the work done on both my hands and feet. This time I felt rush through the appointment because a few people walked in and they decided to take them on at the same time, so at one point there were 3 people doing 4 customers nails. I understand that this place is a hot spot, but the sacrifice of quality was the end result. My shellac manicure was so uneven, thick and lumped and also started to peel after only 2 days and my pedicure was chipping within 5 days. Usually my mani/pedis last at least 3 weeks. I ended up going to get them re-done yesterday because I was not happy, especially because I decided to splurge and treat myself as a birthday treat. If it weren't for the other times that I have gone and received great service, I would give 1-2 stars. I may give this place another change once Dina returns from her undetermined amount of vacation. read more

I haven't had a pedicure in over 5 years so my feet were in pretty rough shape. I saw the reviews on Yelp and was so pleased to find a place in the 'hood that was well reviewed. I was a walk in client on a Sunday and they were able to help me right away (although I made sure to come right when they opened and it did fill up over the next hour). The ladies were just lovely and the price is RIGHT for a pedicure! The salon is very clean and the lady who did my toes did such a good job on my nasty feet, including a leg massage and some interesting pounding on the soles of my feet (!). They also do all sorts of other stuff including waxing, brow tinting, threading, and gel nails. I'll definitely be returning here (hopefully in about a month) to have another pedi & will probably also get a manicure and some threading done as well. Really glad to find somewhere like this in my neighbourhood! PS - they also have curtains by each massage chair so if you and a friend wanted a more private experience it would be possible. PPS - this is not a fancy place but is clean, comfortable and pleasant. read more

This is a great little nail shop. My manicure is 5 days old and looks beautiful. I'm packing to move so I'm truly impressed. The other reason I'm prompted to review is their amazing attention to detail during pedicures. They take the time to properly care for your feet and toenails, taking time to ensure no ingrown toenails etc. read more

There are two types of mani/pedis, frills and no frills. The frilly kind you get at spas with names like Chakra and The Zen Den. These kinds of places have aromatherapy candles and offer you organic, herbal tea. The non-frilly kind you get at nail places with names like Lovely Nails or Happy Fingers. These kind of places have TVs tuned to soap operas not in your native tongue and offer you water in an environmentally offensive cup. Welcome Nails falls squarely into the latter category. Not a frill to be had but for a reasonable price I left with an excellent manicure done by a very sweet girl named Dina. I would've happily given four stars but had an appointment for 3:00 and didn't get a chair till 3:30. Otherwise, very pleased and will return! read more

I went in on a Saturday afternoon and was taken right away by Kim and I asked her to do a quick brow wax. I can honestly say this is one of the rare times I stood up and looked in the mirror and liked it right away. She did a great job and was truly "WELCOME" ing. Thanks! read more

Unlike some beauty parlours that have been able to accommodate my need for immediate mani-pedi gratification on a Saturday afternoon, I didn't feel like a twinrix vaccination was a must prior to my nail service. This place is clean and inviting and the ladies working are sweet, courteous and professional. I was very happy with the overall experience. Massage chair, foot bath, hand and foot massages in addition to expertly applied nail polish - seriously spectacular. Their prices are reasonable and they have a loyalty card. I've been back - without an appointment - and the overall quality has been consistent. Oh, and last time, they busted out some hot stones for an impromptu hot stone foot and leg massage. It was mostly excellent. You should go...wait...no, you shouldn't...cause then it's going to be harder for me to get in... read more

I am really picky when it comes to nails so had a pedi! They were really nice but I needed more hard skin off my feet. I walk about 20 km 3-5 times per week so I have lots of hard skin. I guess there is only so much they can do. read more

I usually go to another nail salon to see my girl but she was fully booked and had no space available to take me in. My gf's birthday is coming up and we needed them done together as its a birthday treat for her. It was great they were able to fit us in as a walk in. I had chosen this place through the review. I'm quite a detailed and fussy girl as I like to watch every spec. The girl doing my pedicure did a good job but it was a bit painful but I continued to let her do her job. As I got to doing my hands, she was unable to correctly get the shaped I had asked for. I had showed her what I wanted but she was still unable to copyright the shape I had shape which is fine, so Helen ended up having to do my hands for me. Overall the job Helen did was on point for me. If my two main girls are ever busy again I would go to Helen again. I'm very happy with the finishing touches and for her stepping up to finishing my nails. The salon did not rush me out and took their time with me which is also a plus. Thank you Helen and I will be seeing you again. read more

I popped in here to have my shellac removed as i was in the neighborhood. The lady did such an amazing job, my nails were left in amazing condition! I first went to Welcome Nails today, and I have to say that I won't be going anywhere else! The lady who did my nails, Nancy, was very thorough, gentle and was a perfectionist (in the best way!). My mani/pedi combo looks amazing. The best part was, that I didn't feel like an inconvenience or rushed out of the door with wet nails. They even took their time with the standard massage that you get with a manicure or pedicure, rather than other places I've been too where they just slap on some moisturiser and call it a massage. Highly recommended! read more

This is my new go-to spot! They did a wonderful job of my shellac manicure. Their colour selection is huge! And they were happy to help me narrow down my choice. My nails were shaped exactly how I like, they took the time to review photos I had on my phone, and the finished product is beautiful :) Great quality and service! read more

I was a walk in this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. The place is really clean, good ventilation, and has friendly staff. The pedicure chairs are kind of uncomfortable and it feels like the seat is missing a few layers of cushioning. This really makes a difference when you're sitting in the same position for an hour and a half like I was! As a nail polish addict, I was a little bit disappointed that they only offer OPI and a small selection of China Glaze. That being said, I quickly found the colour I wanted and am happy with how it turned out. Prices are reasonable. TV was set to the most bizarre and boring Sci-Fi stuff but the very sweet stuff would have undoubtably changed the channel had I asked. In short, I will definitely be back! read more

Had my Halloween nails done here. They did an amazing job and the staff were super friendly. The quality of the acrylic and the nail art were outstanding. I can't emphasize enough how much Dina does such a good job on my nails. She doesn't just go through the motions of "this is how to do a gel manicure: step one, step two..." she actually looks at what she's doing, fixes as she goes and I'm always happy after.. so after years of looking for my nail lady, I think she's the one :) It takes time to be able to have faith in your nail lady but after months and months of consistency, I've been able to trust her enough and she doesn't disappoint. I can't go anywhere else anymore unless Dina moves. I'm following her! read more

I stopped by here after seeing the good reviews and I was not disappointed. They were quite busy for a weekday afternoon, but they happily sat me down right away, even though I didn't have an appointment. I'll definitely make one next time, as it's a popular spot. The nail technician, Nancy, gave me the best manicure I have ever had. She was absolutely meticulous, and I left with a perfect, glossy gel manicure. I was a bit nervous after my last manicure at another local salon as they nicked me quite badly and I bled all over the place, but Nancy was very careful. I have often had problems with my skin peeling around my cuticles after a manicure, but not this time. I'll definitely be returning! read more

yesterday, i was there for the 1st time, and it was great! don't remember the name of the lady that took care of me, but she is the one that sits at the reception desk. very friendly, very accommodating, place was very clean and, even though, i didn't have much time, she was still able to get me in and got all done: pedi and mani, which were done in a very detailed way! LOVE that place and for sure, i will go back again! thank you! - thank you guys! read more

Love. This. Place. Been coming here for years and despite moving from this neighbourhood to Richmond, I still make the trek back to this humble little salon on Hastings. Always great service and all the girls are super friendly and nice. They're always willing to go the extra mile and put up with my crazy nail ideas from pictures that I bring in. Their prices are also super competitive with the current manicure market. Very affordable. Ask for Ellen! read more

I have been looking for a place like this!! I'm so glad I found it. I used to go to a ritzy place in Yaletown and became unimpressed with the quality of service attached to such a steep price tag. The women working here truly make this place welcoming. Seriously, they are the sweetest, most personable staff I've ever experienced. The place is very clean and well stocked with the latest nail decals, acrylic glitters and huge selection of gel colors. I really appreciated the attention to detail I was shown. Even when it got busy I never felt like I was on an assembly line. They took their time and did it right!! This is my regular nail salon for sure!! Thank you, thank you!! read more

Great manicure, clean salon. Very affordable when you compare with other places which offer similar services. I would recommend it without hesitation. 4 stars instead of 5 is only because it is nothing fancy which is expected for the affordable price I guess. read more

Unfortunately, I had someone who could only point and smile so rapport was non-existent. While I appreciate a well priced manicure, I REALLY would like it to last longer than the time it took me to walk home (20 mins). I had one chip that spread across the entire nail. What a waste. Pedicure was meh.... no foot massage and I think that's pretty standard these days. I won't be back. read more

I booked a last minute appointment for me and my sister today for pedicures. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when I called very late last night and they were able to accommodate both of us, first thing the next day. Based on the other Yelp reviews, we knew that punctuality isn't Welcome Nails' specialty, so we went in with this in mind. They were short staffed so we had to get our pedicures one at a time, which was a bit of a drag. However, we were both very satisfied with the end result. Phuong, whom I think is the owner, arrived later and gave me an extra foot massage while I was waiting for my sister's pedicure to be finished! So that was a bonus. The place is simple, clean, accepts walk-ins, and they are a very friendly bunch. Bonus, it's just a 10 minute walk from my house! Plus it's just a block away from Platform 7 Coffee and Tacofino, which we naturally went to afterwards to finish off a fun girls' day. I will definitely come back to Welcome Nails! read more
