I am so entirely in love with this place! Their work is flawless - my face has never been so smooth, my eyebrows look so elegant, and the manicures are Perfect. I have to say, though, the one thing that impressed me the most was actually how they all work with the different clients. I've been in for multi-colour-coat pedis where you end up sitting and people-watching as each layer dries, and so I get to see the people who work there interacting with a whole bunch of clients, and Neelam in particular can transition so smoothly from chatty and funny to calm and gentle to whatever is appropriate for each client's mood and personality. She's just so in tune with her clients and takes care of everyone exactly the way they need. Just a really wonderfully run salon with excellently skilled staff. Always a treat. read more

I've been trying to find a new 'go-to' place to get my brows threaded and now I can finally end my search! I've been to Spice Beauty Bar 3 times now and I've been happy with each experience. Upon walking in, the place is very bright, and *clean*. The staff members are very friendly and do a great job of maintaining the natural shape of my brows without doing it too thin. Employees wore face masks and used hand sanitizer between clients. I was asked how I wanted my brows shaped. Aloe gel was offered after the treading was done. Eyebrow threading came to $14.70 after taxes. It is more expensive compared to options in Surrey or on Fraser Street, but it is located on Commercial Drive. Paid metered parking available along Commerical Drive or there is parking available in the residential areas. They accept cash and credit card. read more

Was looking for a different spot to do threading which didn't require the full trek to downtown. Location is convenient - just 200 metres north of Broadway/Commercial skytrain station I was able to make an appointment in the morning online before they opened which was super convenient. Mini massage @ the end and the aesthetician checked in with me throughout the process to make sure things were done to my satisfaction. From arrival to departure (including paying) it was about 7 mins for threading. There's a lot of hip and happening breakfast joints (also colourful characters) down Commercial @ 11am in the morning so it was nice to be in a more alive neighbourhood. My usual faves are Dona Lucia and Bombay Brow Bar but they are far for non-Downtown folk. Will try again! read more

I have been going to Spice Beauty Bar for a few years now (except for not being able to because of COVID - boo!). Service is always great, professional and quick. I trust their work completely. I have had eyelashes and eyelashes dyed, eyebrows threaded, and microblading (twice now). The personnel are always great and the prices are well worth the look you get after. Just had a touch up for my brows (microblading). They are dark now, but in a few days will tone down - or up (this is my second time, so I know). I love not having to fuss with my brows! read more

Last time I reviewed I said never again and I should have stuck to that. I was desperate for a mani/pedi last Sunday and my usual place was closed so I thought I'd give Spice a try for nails. Such a mistake. The woman who helped me kept telling my how bad gel polish is for my nails and really gave me the impression she wasn't interested in doing it, but when I said maybe if just do regular then (because she kept going on about it) she appeared really annoyed so I stuck to the original plan. I'm an Esthetician and don't need any explanation about services - I know what's what and how things should be done. I had to direct her to further clean up my cuticles after they still looks awful after she had "finished" with them. They're STILL a mess and consequently my gel polish started lifting three days after I had it done. For some reason the Vinylux polish I got on my toes also isn't staying on and the cuticles on my feet are a hot mess as well. I'd also note that the woman who worked on me obviously knew I'd left an unfavourable review previously as she kept mentioning having done my brows in the past and asking repeatedly if I had been happy. I didn't reply as I didn't think this was appropriate of her, but it made me super uncomfortable for the duration of my appointment. So, after tip I'm out $84 and have to go to my regular lady to shell out all over again to fix the terrible job done here. First of all, it's $12 for eyebrow threading. Granted, it's on Commercial, and the place is pretty nice, but unfortunately, the price is a bit of a deterrent for me to go there often. In addition, there is no designated free parking, but you can try to find free parking in the nearby residential area (which I easily did early in the afternoon on a weekday). Good service, and the lady who did my brows did a pretty good job and even penciled them in when she was done to make them look even more spectacular. read more

I wish I could give a 0/5 - discriminatory business. I work in the community and live above Spice Beauty Bar, in East Van we pride ourselves on the diversity of people, part of that is honouring everyone's uniqueness. I work as a school teacher down the road, and earlier this week I had an event for my students where I would let them wax my legs if they had fundraised over $400 for our Diversity Week Event. The kids surpassed expectations and raised over $500, but the waxing they did wasn't perfect. I needed to get the job completed professionally. So rushing home I went to Spice after a recommendation by a colleague and former client of theirs. When I walked in and explained that I needed my legs to be completed they simply told me that they would not do men's legs. This is problematic on so many levels. I was enraged and the person working explained that it was the manager's rules, I didn't feel it was appropriate to bother having the discussion any longer and I didn't want to ruin the client who was in the store's experience. Luckily there was a WONDERFUL hair salon down the road - Kokopelli - who had an esthetician who does not discriminate about what you assume is between my legs. I will continue telling people about how Spice Beauty Bar conducts their business, and maybe if I go in Drag they will help me out. The first time I came here, I enjoyed my experience. However, every single time (three times) after it got worse and worse and worse. My eyebrows threaded today were totally uneven and the dye was not even complete...it is in very noticeable patches. I look terrible. Further, the woman threading was treating me like I was an annoyance to her. I was in pain as she ripped at my skin and ordered me around in a monotone "pull up", "sit back", just really unnerving how rude she was to a client. This was my very last time here and I will go out of my way to avoid this place. I hope she and some of the others get training about how to treat people and provide the service I paid THIRTY dollars for (threading and dye and to be treated poorly). Outrageous. read more

The review about Spice Bar not waxing a person due to what's between their legs had me quite taken aback. I would really encourage the management to have thoughtful discussions around this topic and make a change - as that is not ok. I went in today as I'm tired of paying $25 at Silver Orchid. Although Jas is great and does a fab job every time, $25 is a lot for eyebrow threading and it's in the heart of dt and is way too much chaos to get in & out of. I made an apt online but I called in to see if they had an earlier time. They told me to come in and that there might be a few min wait. I got there and was asked to sit in a chair right away! The lady asked if I was just cleaning up, which I was. She did one eyebrow, had me look at it and then move forward. She finished with a little aloe eyebrow massage. Her thread was a bit more course than I'm used to, which is nbd. But my eyebrows are a bit uneven. I should have looked more thoroughly before leaving but I couldn't find parking and parked in the neighbourhood and it was permit only so was rushed to get back lol It's not crazy uneven, but still visibly thinner on the end of the left side. Oh well, it'll grow in. It's partially on me for not noticing The space was clean and trendy. Service was good. Accommodating and nice. $12 for eyebrow threading is better than $25. Tried this relatively new wax bar out because my girlfriend told me they had something called chocolate wax.. Which girl can say no to that! Ever since, they've been my definite go-to. Place is clean, Neelam always takes good care of me from day 1 and educated me on how to slowly get rid of these ingrown hairs that I always seemed to have a problem with when using strip wax. I used to go Dona Lucia, Beauty and Beyond, even Stripped but my repeated visits to all these places only unfortunately allowed me to experience "bad days" the estheticians may have... which results in me walking away with bumps, irritation, you get my point. But since I've been coming to Spice, nothing but excellent results every time from waxing to threading. Prices are so reasonable as well! Try them out :-) read more

This place just opened and I am so relieved. Commercial drive has been missing an affordable wax bar! This review is for a bikini wax with Neelum (I hope I'm spelling that right). I was a bit early, but she was able to take me right away. She was pleasant and professional, and mentioned that her boss is a stickler for hygiene - no double dipping! Every girl knows that having killer eyebrows can be the most defining feature of your face. A girl who knows her eyebrows are on point is nigh unstoppable. A girl with a ragged bush garden might feel like she has to wear sunglasses and a hat to the salon. Eyebrows are very, very, important. My eyebrows in particular are pretty intense. They are jet black, sometimes curly, and if left untamed form a singular black line from temple to temple. Needless to say the waxing pot and I have been friends for years. I saw this shop as I was walking down commercial and thought to myself... eyebrow threading on commercial? Really?! And went right in to check it out. Pros: Clean environment Friendly staff Quick and relatively painless Cons: - 12$ for eyebrow threading? In surrey it's 3$. That's a huge price difference. In north burnaby on Hastings there's a place that charges 7$ and I thought that was unreasonable. Holy! - No one asked me what I wanted done. I was asked to sit down and that was it. If I hadn't stopped her to communicate that I didn't want them too thin I wouldn't have had any say at all. - she left one eyebrow significantly thinner than the other, and put makeup on me before I left the shop. I don't know if this was done to hide the empty spaces or what, but I washed my face last night so it didn't hide them for long. Now I'm kind of irritated because in order to not look like I lost control of my tweezers I have to put makeup on them every day, and touch it up if I happen to sweat at any point. I'm too low maintenance for that malarkey. All things considered I wouldn't call this a negative experience, just not a great one. I might go back and try some other services but I doubt id let them touch my eyebrows again. read more

This is what has been missing on the Drive! A threading bar! Dropped in for brows and face with the charming and talented Neelam. She was charming and knowledgeable and great with the thread. Finished off with a light aloe massage, and voila! lovely brows! At $12 it is pricier than Main St or Fraser St - but I can walk to SBB, get a great shaping, and do the Drive thing afterwards. I was so pleased with the service that I stayed for a pedi. My hooves really needed some attention, and again, Neelam was great. The place is very clean. Decor is spare, white walls, walnut floor, splashes of orange and turquoise and a green wall - succulents growing in white porcelain containers along the mid-wall. Found out about Neelam's salon through a friend, as her eyebrows were looking fierce! Called and made my appointment super fast...excellent service on the phone and from the minute I walked into the door...she also took me early awesome :) I've lived in Vancouver for 3 years and have been to multiple places to get my eyebrows done in hopes of finding the perfect salon...well Spice Beauty Bar is my perfect salon!..Super thankful to have found Neelam as I no longer have to wait to fly back home to LA to get my brows done. My brows looks freakin' FANTASTIC every time!! $12 might be pricey to some...but ladies...don't cheap out on your brows...they're the most important thing on your face and Neelam makes them look ON POINT! I came here to get my eyebrows threaded and wow! What an amazing job! I went in with flimsy caterpillars over my eyes and left with two distinct and gorgeous eyebrows! She was quick and efficient and shaped my terribly uneven (seriously my eyebrows don't even look like they belong in the same family) and unruly brows into matching beauts I'm proud to have prominently on my face. I found about this beauty bar by coincidence. However, nothing in life is a coincidence. I was definitely in need of a brow shaping, and the space looked so nice. The staff is very respectful of anyone. I've been in other brow bars, but this one is the best by far. Had a great experience with this place, really glad that its close to my work place. I went in for a brazilian and was a pretty good experience. Its not my first time getting one so comparing to that she did an awesome job at keeping me distracted from the pain which personally was not too bad at all. This is definitely going to be my future place for a brazilian. Plus the fact I'm not paying $60 for a brazilian unlike some place is a keeper for me. She didn't double dip, the place was super clean, was not rushed, kept me distracted, not priced ridiculous high(I paid 45 with tip and tax included) and really convienent location, so over all was a 5 star for me. I've been coming here since the first week it opened. I've been many places for eyebrow grooming, but the ladies here are far beyond exceptional. Always greeted with smiles and the salon is clean and beautiful. The prices are reasonable for the area and they always add a little extra touch. Love to get my eyebrows threaded and a special head massage at the end. They know their stuff and I always feel comfortable leaving my fuzzy eyebrows in their hands. My go-to brow place. Decent prices, great, quick service and the threading is very nice. Almost no pain!! Gotta love the aloe at the end to soothe my red skin I usually get my eyebrows, upper lip and chin threaded but the last time I was there, the girl recommended wax for the last two and then just a small clean up with the thread. Neelam is AMAZING. Went for my first brazillian post-baby when the "baby" was almost 2. After giving birth I decided I'd never, ever get a wax again, because why inflict pain in that area ever again if I could avoid it! My resolve lasted 2 years (I got sick of other methods of maintenance). My first wax with Neelam was perfect, amazing, fast, and not as bad as I'd worried. I even brought the kid along, and Neelam didn't mind. My second wax was with someone else (I forget her name!) and, sadly, it wasn't so great. There was a tear (yes, THERE). I didn't want to complain (I'm a whimp?) so I just coated the area with neosporin with antibiotics and waited to heal. I told Neelam when I went again (which I don't think was cool of me, you should tell immediately, right?), and she was apologetic, gave me a discount, and that was that. Except, even with Neelam's awesome skill, I tore (yes, THERE, and YES, AGAIN). Again I didn't call to complain (I'm a WHIMP). My fourth wax at Spice was with Neelam, I explained about the second tear, and said I really think this has more to do with me post-birth than with her skill (scar tissue. Yep, you can't blame me for warding off waxes forever). We agreed that she would be extreeeeemely gentle, and work in very small strips. No tear. Great wax. I'm going to go regularly, and I'm glad I persisted with Neelam in spite of the challenges. She's great. She talks you through it, gives you pep talks ("You're an amazing, sexy woman! I can tell! Your man is lucky!") and it helps to keep you laughing and feeling good about yourself while she's doing such violence (consensual violence!) to your bits. In my experience, at Spice and elsewhere, good service is a collaborative process of good communication and courtesy on both sides. Neelam is definitely doing her part to deliver good service, and that makes it easy to do my part, even when I'm a bit shy about raising a concern. Thank you, Neelam! read more

My waxer didn't apply pressure after each strip, and I was left with a coat of wax on me. My downstairs is on fire. I hate to say it, but even if Sugarbox is more expensive, you get what you pay for. I even specifically asked about the date I would be using it as I knew I had a travel date booked. I've been twice now to have my eyebrows waxed. They did an alright job cleaning up my eyebrows, however I could really do without the scolding and the bad attitudes. BOTH times I was constantly reprimanded for waxing and not threading. If you don't want to wax someone's eyebrows, then maybe don't offer it as a service?! Some people prefer waxing - shocker, right? It's really not that hard to understand. "Gossip" is a far cry from what I received. I'm an adult, not a misbehaved child in a classroom. Be professional and provide the service you advertise. You wouldn't like it if you went to a restaurant and were constantly berated the entire time you ate because the cook didn't like making the meal you chose. Also, stop telling me you can't shape eyebrows with waxing. I've been having my eyebrows waxed for 10 years and my esthetician was always able to properly shape my eyebrows. Just because you don't know how doesn't mean its not possible. The first time I was there, I arrived a minute before my appointment but because the woman for the next appointment was early, they took her before me, which pushed my appointment back and was an inconvenience to me as I had somewhere to be shortly after. I booked my appointment at that time for a reason. Between my experiences and reading other reviews, this is clearly a very unprofessional location. Super disappointed and unimpressed with this place, as it is in a convenient location for me, but I would go out of my way to a different location and receive proper, professional service than return here. You couldn't pay me to get anything done at this location again. Two stars because the actual waxing was okay. Honestly I could have done it at home with a DIY kit from Shoppers. read more

I use to go to dona lucia, but thought I would try this place out because it was closer to my house, although it is a few $ more then dona I read the great reviews. It was great to be shown my eyebrows before she started to show me what she was going to do and I felt completely trusting . She did an amazing job, and gave me a little eyebrow massage at the end too. Maybe they will lower their prices on the eyebrow threading as I would like to keep coming here. read more
