I think shorter than Olneyville's, much more heavily seasoned, but with less celery salt. The meat sauce worked and the bun was soft and fresh. Can't go wrong here. -- Patty Melt: A dainty variety on thin white bread, with a thin, low grade burger patty and a minimal amount of condiments. Not bad, but even as a lover of patty melts, I would have preferred my friend's standard cheeseburger. -- Fries: The standard frozen variety, typical of diners, but well executed, served piping hot with crisp exteriors and fluffy interiors. -- Coffee Milk: Tall glass whose to tint made it hard to see how concentrated the coffee syrup was, but a good amount. Noticeably more sweet than most. Not cold though. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Comparisons to Olneyville NY System are inevitable. For 30+ years this was 5 stars. New ownership saved one of my childhood favorites and I've been back multiple times since reopening. I can confidently say - 4 stars at best. Positive changes - bright decor, updated systems, and the takeout window - along with expanded hours. But - it's just not the same. So many people behind the counter but kitchen service is slower than it ever was before. Wieners sit on the grill, piled up and burn. Portions are drastically reduced. Breakfast prices are way up and the constant addition of new items - while make sense for new owners - have taken away the true identity of this local icon. Staff is still incredibly nice - although there are twice as many. Love the idea of merchandise and the lively atmosphere. But Saturday afternoons aren't the same. The magic is - not gone - but hidden under a shiny cloak of, dare I say, ego. Go from a partially nostalgic trip - enjoy the service - but you won't be racing back weekly. read more

Last stop on day three of the RI Food Fights was another classic location, Wein-O-Rama, which was notoriously closed and then reopened by some local business people to great acclaim. That plays out in the busy parking lot and lots of people running in and out all day long. Unfortunately for us, the legendary status doesn't live up on the product. There was an off-putting spice in the sauce, infant identify it: it tastes like cinnamon or nutmeg, but Is probably allspice. In any event, it doesn't make the product better. The quality of the bun and weiner are quite good. Everything is on there in good ratios. But the taste is so weird and out of place it ruined it for me. It's good that this was the 3rd stop of the day, because if I came out of nostalgia for three all the way, I wouldn't have gone past the first one. Del's lemonade was close so I check out hot dogs and this restaurant was right down the road with great ratings. Nice cashier took my order and bagged it. The hot dog was so good and now what a different celery salt makes. I will add this to my Carolina style dog which has the same ingredients without celery salt. If you grew up in Rhode Island, you know Wein-O-Rama. This place is a true Cranston institution & home to some of the best hot wieners you'll ever have. After being closed for a bit, I was excited to see the doors open again. The second you walk in, it hits you: that comforting smell of grilled onions, spiced meat sauce & nostalgia. The decor is classic, old-school diner vibes with counter stools & no-frills tables. It's the kind of place where locals gather, orders are shouted with confidence & everything feels like home. I started with a cup of New England chowdah. There's no fancy garnish, no pretension & it tastes of the sea. I got 3 "all the way" (mustard, meat sauce, onions & celery salt). The wieners were snappy & juicy, the sauce was savory with a kick of spice & the bite of the fresh onions makes them irresistible. There was a long line for the take-out window & an almost equally long line for getting a seat inside. There seemed to be a little confusion on seating people but I'm sure it will work itself out soon. Service was friendly & efficient. Bottom line: Wein-O-Rama is back & better than ever. Now that Baba's has gone out of business, looking for a new wein spot. This is definitely my new place. Very similar to baba's in taste and texture. Not as flavorful but very close. I never came here before it closed and then re-opened years later, so I can't compare it to what it used to be. There's a takeout window if you don't want to go inside. We sat at the counter around 1pm on a Friday and there were no other open seats. Service is very quick and friendly. We came here for one thing but tried two. We each got 2 wieners "all the way" and then shared an order of stuffies that were advertised as a special (2 for ~$10). The wieners were a little sweet with not many of the other flavors coming through. Someone that doesn't love wieners all the way would probably like them. The buns were nicely steamed though. The stuffies had kind of a cake-like texture to them rather than a stuffing. Not enough clam for me. I let my partner finish mine. Overall, the total of 4 wieners and the order of stuffies put us back about $26 after tax. Everything I've said plus the 25 min drive to get there...means we won't be coming back. It looked like a lot of customers were eating burgers there. I'm not curious enough to go back and give those a try. I love their hot weiners so I decided to try their breakfast. I ordered their Avocado toast which was described to have "smashed avocado" on it. I'm pretty sure I got an avocado spread and barely any of it. I can't believe this was $11! Dunkin Donuts has a better avocado toast than this and for less. Very disappointed. I went inside to order takeout and they told me I had to order outside on a sidenote, the inside was not that busy. All the food was good reasonably priced and quickly received. The onion rings were not my favorite definitely lacked some crunch, they were like soggy onions looking at the menu. Well, I'm hard-pressed to write a negative review of a place that the service was friendly and fast, and the food was inexpensive and adequate. So I'm going to write a neutral one. I live about 25 min outside of Cranston and was running some errands so I looked up some cheap lunch options, and this is where I stopped. I expected a place called Weiner-rama to be a little more hotdog centric. Like a bunch of funny names for specialty dogs (like at Spikes Junkyard Dogs, a "patriot dog" is mustard, cheddar and bacon topped with fresh chopped onions). But this was more of an old school lunch shack, kinda what you'd see next to a beach. There were old menus high on the walls (the kind where you put on each letter individually), but no list of toppings for dogs... or anything really. Not even a paper menu around for me to look over. I played it safe and ordered 2 dogs with cheddar and onion with mustard. They didn't have cheddar. Wait really? Nothing you serve has cheddar on it? Ok... I was offered American cheese instead. It was busy, and me not wishing to hold things up i flippantly was like "yeah ok that's good." I also ordered a milk shake and small fries. Ok, I should've guessed that for $2.95, the milkshake wouldn't be made with ice cream. That's on me. But it was literally vanilla flavored milk with ice cubes in it. Not something I've ever had before, and not really interested in having again. The fries were good, they were frozen (I believe) but hot and crispy when I got them. Totally acceptable snack shack fries. The hot dogs weren't bad, average. I've definitely had worse. But they're basically just roller dogs on a standard untoasted bun. The American cheese was a mistake, again that's more on me than them. Also they only take cash, which if you see the place it LOOKS like it would only take cash, but it's 2021... I'm gonna be one of those people and say it's time to make the switch. $12 (plus a $2.75 ATM fee and $3 bank fee) for two hotdogs that weren't any better than if I'd made them in a pot at home, fries, and watery "shake" just didn't leave me dying to return. I'm sure if you grew up with this place it's awesome, I'm sure if I had known where I was going and what they served the experience would've been better. read more

There was a line when we entered, but we just wanted to have a seat at the counter. I wasn't trying to cut anyone in line. I just wanted to see what was available. Wein-O Rama is the second coolest name of a hot dog place I know. The Gold Medal still goes to Super Duper Weinie in Fairfield, CT. But seriously, Wein-O-Rama is quite the epic name, isn't it? I had a business meeting in Warwick tonight, and needed to check into the hotel and go to my meeting site and make sure I had the AV equipment working, so I was motivated to get to Rhode Island early. Those circumstances also gave me the chance to stop here for lunch. So I walk in a little after noon on a Thursday and the first thing I notice is that this place is SLAMMED busy. Crowded. Noisy. I mean every booth and table maxed out. A few single counter stools were open, so I grabbed one by the register. I see eight people running around behind the counter - 4 guys cooking, a few waitresses running around, and an older woman who alternated between ringing up orders and watching everything else like a hawk. I got one dog with sauce and onions, one dog with everything, a side of slaw, and a soft drink. Ran a little over $8. I enjoyed the dogs, but just as a matter of preference I thought the onion taste was a little too strong. The dogs were very good, nice taste, and snap factor. One odd thing -as busy as they were made it easy to explain a little snafu I experienced. When more than a few minutes passed after I ordered, my server asked the cook where the dogs were. He said he made them and put out for pick-up. Turns out a different serve grabbed them (the orders were slightly different) so customer A didnt get what they ordered and Customer Me had a little extra wait. So as succesful as this place is (45+ years in the biz) they can still use a little tightening up of the ordering process. It's a cool place to visit just because its a local institution and the whole experience is a real spectacle to behold. Not sure if that translates into wanting to go back. It's been many times that I try to make it over here but the business has very short unusual hours so today I was lucky enough to make it there I was a half an hour before they closed. You have to be careful not to miss the place they do have a sign it kind of looks like a bowl Arama sign for the window Rama the restaurant is to the left depending on where you're driving isolated by yourself in the strip mall they have around here. I walked in and it has pretty muchDiner experiments to the countertops spinning chairs and booth. The waitress was very nice there was not a lot of people there but she was very attentive to our needs I was able to ask her for pretty much anything. Now mainly we were there for the wieners. It was nice the bread was not hard it was moist the good ratio of meat sauce and Frankfurters. Delicious just like Olneyville. It is a CASH business. I had to borrow money since I don't like to carry cash especially transmissions of anything hand to hand during COVID. I forgot to mention the Coffee milk. Great compliment to our meal. Sorry guys I did not go there for the weiners. However, I will say it felt like I was the only one. Everyone around me ordered the weiners so I'm guessing they're good and very popular. I decided to get the cheeseburger jumbo special, it just basically comes with fries and a drink. I enjoyed my meal but I have to say...those fries were everything. I love it when fries are nice and crisp and salted just right and I'm not a fries person. I cleaned that plate up, lol. It was busy for a Tuesday early afternoon, typical diner I guess. My only issue was there was not a clear spot or person making sure people in line were seated. I didn't know who was there to pick up their order or waiting to be seated. Then a man comes in after me and finds a seat at the bar. I had no idea we could seat ourselves or else I would've plopped myself down from the beginning. Been getting wieners there for 60 years. They have not changed a bit except for the price. To read reviews telling them how to make them is ludicrous. Changes would ruin them. They are what they have always been. If you want it your way, go to Spikes and don't wreck the experience for the rest of us. I have been going to Wein-O-Rama since 1967. In the 70's I could get 6(weiners, aka gaggers), a small fry, and a large coffee milk or soda for less than $5. For a $1.05 you could get two eggs, hash browns and toast. (99 cents plus tax) It hasn't changed much, just a few more grey hairs and a few more pounds after they have served the community for over 50 years. The continue to support the locals. Today was my first time back in about a year, last time I got 3 just sauce to go and the were better than ever. I was having breakfast with two friends I have know since I was 5 years old and we have been going to weinorama for just as long. I am sure nostalgia and being with my old friends had something to do with it, but as always I wasn't let down. We all got 2 eggs, hash browns, wheat toast, and they had bacon while I had sausage. Now my friends can talk and were telling story after story, by the time I was barely half way done they were already ordering 2 each all the way. The whole time I was thinking can it really be this good. The eggs were over easy, cooked to perfection. They were so light and flavorful. Plenty of delicious hash browns and my dry wheat toast was toasted to perfection. The sausage was very tasty like I remember from the olde days. I took my time and enjoyed every bite. The coffee always taste good and hot. When I finished they where already done. I needed to get in on this and ordered 1 just sauce. It was so good, the soft steamed bun, the tasty dog along with the most delicious meat sauce. I am not sure how they do it. They only difference from most of the N.Y. systems is there weiners are individual, were as everyone else seems to use one big long weiner cut down to size. It is the small places that use used to frequent that you want to come back to and make you feel you are really back. We needed to wait for a seat. And we were starving.
