A very simple spot but the hot dogs are always delicious. I first found about this chain when I was in college. They always toast their buns perfectly. I like a basic dog with cheese or ketchup, but they have so many good options. It's a cute family spot and kids love it. Service is always efficient and speedy. The inside is cute. It's nothing fancy. But it's adorable. I hope they continue to thrive---I'm sad many former locations have closed in the past 20 years. read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is top notch for what it is. It's not gourmet but man it's good!! The dogs and veggie dogs are my goto but I've seen people get the pizza and chicken and it all looks good. The Fries are good but add the spikes fry salt and they kick ass. Very courteous and knowledgeable staff.My wife is vegan and they prepared her hot dogs to her liking.They also warned me that the Freakin hot hotdogs are really hot as they let me sample the very very very very hot sauce before I ordered.The result I loved it and ordered 2 of them! The slow intense burn hot dogs were tremendous as the home made rolls hugged the hotdogs like a grandma hugging a grandchild.The fountain soda Pepsis and the crispy fries and onion rings made this meal even better.The restaurant was clean and bright with fun 50s vibe.I was almost expecting the Fonz to walk in the door.The staff took great pride in their work and had great fun in a very busy establishment.Sadly it was time to go so I ordered a hot hot hot dog to go!If I wish I could give Spikes 10 stars! read more

I don't know how to rate this. It's my favorite food in the world - I've been coming here for 30 years. When I got out of the Marine Corps in 2002, it was the first place I went (Thayer St). The guy working there gave me a Spikes coin (I still have it!) and said "Welcome home"! I went on first dates here. I revere Spikes and always frequented the closest location to my home, regardless of how far away it became over the years. Last month, I picked my parents up from the airport (PVD) on a visit and we stopped by Spikes after for lunch. After we ordered our dogs, we sat at a booth and were reminiscing of Spikes runs in the 90's. When our food came, the dogs were tiny. Normal hotdog size. I expected standard Spikes sized, so I asked the bearded gentleman working the counter if the dogs had shrunk. With all the attitude in the world, he looked at me like it was my second visit to a Spikes location and said "What are you talking about? They're the same size they've always been.". A week later, I dropped my folks off at the airport and decided to give spikes one more chance. The dogs were back to regular size. Same staff, same location. Nostalgia requires 5 stars after this considering this review. To the staff - be better. I'm an OG Spikes customer. Assume everyone knows what to expect, and deliver it. I work for DoorDash, and every single time I get an order from spikes they keep me waiting well over 15 minutes. I get paid by the order so when someone paying me five dollars to deliver their food, and 15 minutes of my time is burned up waiting at their freaking store, it usually works out to making five dollars in over a half hour thanks to them anyone working for DoorDash up finding themselves in the line. It's not because they're so busy because I've been in when there's no customers and have been standing there for 10 minutes watching them slowly put a burger on the grill. I first encountered Spike's when I lived in Providence and they had a location on Thayer St. and I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say I ate a hot dog almost every day. I was just out of college at the time and two dogs with some different toppings was a feast. I live in the Berkshires now but still manage to detour my way to a Spike's a few times a year and it's such a treat when I do. Nothing has changed - and that's a great thing! The dogs are perfect. Big but not huge. The buns are fresh, almost like little baguettes, and stand up to the wide variety of toppings perfectly. Last week in Warwick I stopped to get a dog for myself and my daughter. My girlfriend said she was fine. I get myself a Reuben dog and she asks for a bite. 10 seconds later I'm walking back in for another Reuben dog because she claimed that one! Found this place purely by chance. So glad that we ran into it. Really nice service. Interior clean and simple, with good seating. We had a German Dog, Burger, and Curley Fries, along with homemade root beer! Excellent all around. High quality meat on both sandwiches. All kinds of toppings. Just a mile away, I drove by a McDonalds with a long line of cars in the drive through. Why go there, when you could come to Spikes for FAR BETTER quality food, at the same price? A girl at the counter said hello when I walked up to the counter so I responded with "hi I'd like to place an order" she responded with we'll get to you when we can. I was there on their opening day in Warwick. I mean the ORIGINAL Spikes. Not this location where they are now. I moved away from RI in early 2000's. Spikes was our favorite place to go. So it has been many moons since I have stepped into a Spikes (how long? Club Hell was open, that's how long ago) and wanted to share the joy of this fine establishment with the wife. Of course, we decided on the Warwick location instead because it was near the hotel we are staying at. Having gotten out the last night of Comic-con, this was a quick stop. To start of, the place was dirty and no patrons were in the restaurant when we ordered. Bits of bacon from the previous patrons on the table were noted, all the tables were pretty much in the same condition. The bathroom floor was slippery like it was greased, having worked in a kitchen I knew it meant the mop water had a high concentration of soap/degreaser when it was last cleaned. The barrel was overflowing with used paper towels. Now the food on the other hand, phenomenal like I remember! Just juicy, tasty junkyard food that was a perfect nightcap after hitting the bars and grabbing a quick bite. It's even good sober! The Junkyard Dog was great, I was transported to an earlier time, a somewhat better time when Bush was in office and I was directionless in life and having fun. With no responsibilities other than crushing college debt with no way to pay it back. We didn't have smartphones, we were in a terrible episode of Star Trek with our flip phones in that time. Of course I came back to the reality that Trump was elected. *sigh* The bacon ranch fries (curley fries mind you, curley damn it!) were delicious. My wife enjoyed her BBQ bacon cheeseburger and mozzarella sticks. I liked this location with all the stuff on the walls, fitting with the junkyard theme. The crew were nice and pleasant, and food was fast. You guys just need to put a little effort in cleaning up. I don't care about dirty places (to a degree) because I am giving the benefit of the doubt, that's why I'm giving my rating. Oh and the toilet was broken, so that was a whole thing in itself. A junkyard where the dogs aren't mean I very, very seldom eat hot dogs or wieners or whatever you what to call them so I'm hardly an expert. From what I can remember they have all tasted pretty much the same; it's what you put on them that makes the difference. The fact that I don't really care for mustard, ketchup. relish or many of the other usual condiments might be one of the reasons I don't eat tube steaks very often. I am also sure that there are people that can see and appreciate the subtle differences between the hot dogs themselves. I just never cultivated such a talent. Since our whole town was flooded and not much was open a friend suggested that we try Spike's. Even though it is only a few miles from where I live never even noticed it before. As soon as I walked in the door I liked the place. A very causal but quirky decor with lots of humorous signs and little thingies to looks at while you wait for your dogs. Even a huge hot dog model pouring ketchup on his head. Fine art at it's most creative. The dogs were just like I remember hot dogs to be. All right but probably not something I really want to go out of my way to find. Plenty of other things I like better. Spike's does have a zillion different opinions available and it took me a while to realize I just wanted my dogs plain. Both my friends loaded all kinds of colorful, enigmatic and mysterious things on theirs and the condiments probably weighted more than the dogs. They also said the dogs themselves were excellent although I'm not sure how they could even find them under the avalanche of other stuff. If you like dogs Spikes would be a great place to go. Quirky and entertaining decor and a vast variegation of options to customize your dog. It's worth a trip just to check out the giant hot dog pouring ketchup on his head. I wanted to check out Spike's because I was really craving a good hotdog. The staff there were VERY kind. The prices from their online menu were very low, so I thought, why not! The hotdogs are nothing special. The bread is very thick and overpowered the hotdog. It was expensive for a couple of plain hotdogs and some chips.
