Today is the second leg of the Rhode Island Food Fights WienerFest. Started at Axelrod's Fry Shack in Warwick. The hot weiner was OK, although it pretty much goes against every thing that people complain about when they evaluate them... The onions aren't chopped right. The sauce was okay. The buns weren't the right kind. And these are more a hot dog than a weiner. But overall they were decent. If you're looking for a quick lunch they would be fine, especially with those fries. The fries were actually great, very tasty with a nice salt blend. So good in fact, that I suspect the burgers and chicken are probably pretty tasty and worth stopping by for. The service was really good as well. Very nice people work there. They probably don't sell a lot of wieners because they're one store away from Sam's, but they are not a total waste of time either. Not sure how this place Responsible is still in business. Went to an event with food trucks and Axelrods was there. I bought poutine fries and buffalo fries $28 Both were served cold the fries are frozen not even hand cut. The brown gravy was cold and the cheese curds had no taste. The buffalo chicken was cold, cold fries, and stated with blue cheese but they only had ranch dressing. Do better people you know we're all hitting hard times here if you're gonna go out and do a festival make sure your food is hot especially if you're gonna charge $28 for two orders of french fries absolutely insane. I will never purchase from you again, and I hope everybody reads this. read more

I have never thrown food away until today. $18 for Buffalo chicken fries. The plate was supposed to come with blue cheese or ranch. When it came out it had neither. I asked for the side of blue cheese which they replied they were all out. It would have been nice to know prior to purchasing. This was completely inedible. It was drenched in hot sauce like soup. I didn't want to waste the food so I tried wiping the sauce off with a napkin and dumping the liquid out. It didn't help at all and went straight into the trash. For a drive thru place that's rather small, this had some great food. We ordered the Carwash fries which had cheese curds and gravy. Nicely seasoned and perfect ratio of toppings for the fries. We also got some cheese sliders. The bread was delicious and the burgers hit the spot. read more

Overall 3.75 rating. Been going to Axelrod's for several years now. THE SHAKES- should get a 4.5 rating This is the place to go for a milkshake. Forget all the other places that you think are good, their selection and fresh ingredients make for an excellent shake experience. They often have monthly or seasonal shake specials. SLIDERS- rated a 3 I would rate their sliders at a 3. They are good for what you can get locally, but I prefer Camp Nowhere or Newport or Providence for burger sliders and even chicken sliders. That said, they are worth a try. FRIES They have many specialties fries- hence the name. I'm not personally that into loaded fries but I have tried a few different ones over time and so far I haven't hit anything overly soggy or bad. Their ingredients are fresh and made to order so nothing is sitting around. One LARGE complaint I have is that when I have ordered the standard, plain fries, they were cooked very well, potato taste is fresh and good BUT the staff put so much salt on them that *twice* recently (June of 2024) I have been unable to even eat them. A sprinkle of salt is good, but the overload of salt they throw on them is repulsive. Someone needs to coach the staff to sprinkle not douse. I will request no salt on my next order of fries to see what happens. OTHER Wieners and fries special. I really like this meal deal because it's only around ten bucks (as of the time of this review) and you get 3 loaded wienies and a small fry. The curbside pickup makes it convenient. I would recommend ordering online and doing the curb pullup rather than wait in the drive through. Unless you're ordering a shake only and you see no one ahead of you in line, do curbside instead of drive through. Yes, they do have a few tables and seating area but there's no ambience there so I'd skip that and just get items to-go. read more

OMG This is the best chili cheese fries I've had in the world! Well, worth the price. First time trying them, but will definitely be back.

I recently moved to the area and kept wanting to check this place out. It's a cute little stop on a busy road. I finally gave them a try last night and I was disappointed. I ordered 2 honey hot chicken Sandos and a kids chicken nugget meal. 2 Oreo shakes and the strawberry shortcake. The milkshakes were great! After waiting almost 20 mins for our order, when we got home it was 2 orders of cheese fries with bacon in the bag. The staff was nice and apologized for the mix up. Once I picked up the correct order, the chicken sandwiches were good but not hot. The kids meal was with cold fries and the nuggets were practically burned. I hate to bury a new business so I'm rounding up my 2.5 stars to three. Great concept... Hot fries with tasty toppings at a drive thru. Sure! I ordered the Poutine fries with brown gravy and curds. They were just okay. My thoughts are when you're dealing with just a couple ingredients make them GREAT and they lacked any oomph. The fries were crispy but under seasoned and your run of the mill frozen bag fries. The gravy was the jarred gravy variety. And the cheese curds... There weren't many. My suggestion... Doctor up the gravy. This working momma ain't no stranger to a jar of gravy but I add a few touches to make it mine. And maybe just toss those lil taters in some seasoned salt. And obviously make those curds the star. I should not have to dig for cheese curd treasure. Lastly, I think they have to come down on their prices. $8 is steep... Especially if you're slinging stuff out of a jar or freezer. Or improve the ingredients to justify it. They also have sliders and shakes but to get this shack on my regular rotation I'd need more than I got tonight. Worth a try if you don't mind spending the cash. read more

First time going here, because i heard that the locals enjoy it. What a mistake. Not only did it take 30 minutes to get our so called fast food after we ordered, almost the entire order was wrong. I complained to the woman at the register about the screw up, and she proceeded to give me all kinds of reasons why it was like that. After paying $70, she never offered to make it right. First off this is a location that you pick up food to go or use the drive thru. There are clean picnic tables on location. The couple working there were very nice, food fresh and fast. Fries and shake very good. I did not care for the burgers (sliders with cheese) and chicken sliders. The burger was definitely fresh ground beef, but really nothing special about them, the beef actually tasted tough. The chicken was fried and very greasy, most likely straight out of the fryer onto the roll. This is a gastro type food so to be expected. The fries and shakes make visiting definitely worth it. It wasn't anything to brag about. I wanted to give this place a try on a recent day that I was in the area. First of all it's just a drive thru with a walk up window. A few picnic tables are available as well. I ordered the basic sliders with cheese. I really didn't care for the rolls that they came on. Otherwise the meat was tasty and quite similar to what you might get at White Castle. They have quite a few different varieties of fries, but I just got the regular seasoned ones and they were quite good. I also got a vanilla shake and it seemed a bit small for the price. I found it to be a little overpriced for what you get. It cost around the same as a trip to 5 Guys, but you get a lot more food for your money there. A fun little drive-thru spot that's able to pack a lot of great flavors into their food. I came here on my journey to find a milkshake in the Warwick area. Yelp didn't give me many options (deferring to a McDonald's near my house), but Axelrod's came up and, after driving by it a few times before, I decided to give it a shot. The shack makes up for it's small size by offering a bright aesthetic and short but robust menu. They have plenty of french fry options, and enough unique milkshakes to make one's final decision difficult (not that it's a bad thing to have to put thought into choosing a milkshake). I got the creamsicle for myself, and the fruity pebbles for my partner. And both were great! Super creamy and super thick, and a decent size for the price. The fruity pebbles was our favorite, because the creamy ice cream balanced nicely with the sweet, nostalgic taste and aroma of fruity pebbles. Have yet to try their fries but I won't wait too long. While I waited for my order, all I could smell was poutine. It smelled amazing! Can't wait to come back to this nice little shack. read more

I don't even know how to put into words the supreme awesomeness that is the axle grease wing sauce. It's like some sort of cheesy big mac concoction, poured over perfectly fried wings. Just heaven. And the sliders. OHHH the sliders. I had the hot rod deluxe slider, which also has said sauce on it. Basically, it turns anything it touches to gold. I could bathe in it. This is for the Warwick location. My son and I were on our way to Subway when he all of a sudden, he wanted to eat there. I parked the car and went up to the building. My son and I both were saying excuse me to get the little girl's attention. The business is not that big, and I know she heard us, but kept her back turned towards us. After a minute or two another girl walked out and helped us. I don't know where she was, but I wonder how long she heard of trying to get our order taken. If my son wasn't with me, I would have said how I felt. Just because I look different from you, does not mean you get to be disrespectful to me. Teach your kids respect for everyone. Maybe I got a lemon, but I was the only one there so it's not like they were busy. Got the carwash fries(poutine) and it was just very mid. The fries were bland, as was the gravy however the bottom was too salty. Idk what the cheese was but I'm pretty sure it wasn't cheddar curds. I think it was just mozzarella. If I wasn't working I'd go back and ask for a refund. I'm not gonna say steer away from this place, but as the only customer at the time I expect a little bit more love and care for my meal from an establishment like this. OMG!!! The shakes that are on the menu are not the shakes that you get. If it was the correct shakes the menu would have to have ones called FUR BALL!!! OMG!!! Both shakes came FULLY LOADED WITH CAT FUR!!! Not to mention it was like $20 for two what I would consider small shakes. First of all, I am so utterly disappointed because I was eagerly anticipating trying this place out. Such great reviews that I was sure it was going to be great. Sadly, we had a horrible experience. Given the Covid 19 situation my husband called and asked if we should do call ahead or drive thru, and the girl said it didn't matter. My husband opted for the drive thru since he was headed home from and errand and figured he could swing by. He ordered the "Drag Strip" and "At the Car Wash." He also ordered the "B-Day Cake" and "Butterfinger" shakes. After AT LEAST 10 minutes of waiting, the girl handed him the milkshakes. He noticed they were small and didn't look like the website's pictures but then also realized they were extremely watery. After another 5 minutes, the girl came back to the window. My husband asked if the milkshakes were supposed to be this watery and she replied, "yea the milkshake machine is broken." My husband then said, "so I have to pay for these?" while she said, "yes, sorry." A couple minutes later she said the two orders of fries were taking so long "because of the meat." Meanwhile, I should mention there was a car behind my husband that had been waiting 10-15 minutes and decided to back up and leave. Not once did they ask my husband to park. After a total of 20 minutes, my husband got the fries. The girl asked if he wanted "a can of soda" to make up for the 2 milkshakes that cost $4.49+ each, and he was all set at this point. So let's get home and pray these fries are so great to make up for all this...nope. The "Drag Strip" fries which took so long to make because of the meat? The meat did not taste like hot weiner meat at all! Ground up meat with not enough seasoning. Not quite sure if there was celery salt on them either. Staff is super friendly. I went there for myself once and to deliver for GrubHub both times the staff was very friendly. I got the Smash Up Derby and added queso cheese. The food was fresh, and the portion size was generous. I didn't like the the seasoning on the fries though. I noticed it a lot when I got to the bottom when there weren't much toppings. I was pleasantly surprised to see this place open up a few months ago. Sliders, milkshakes, and fries smothered in delicious toppings what more could you want? I have been here twice and both times I have gotten the Drag Strip (fries smothered with wieners, sauce, onions, celery salt, and mustard. You get a huge portion and the fries are crispy and delicious. I have tried their sliders as well and they are also quite tasty. I will definitely be back, I want to try other things on their menu, especially the milk shakes! I would recommend calling ahead since although it is a drive-thru, everything is made to order. Was in Warwick and saw this place and thought that it was right up Fatboys alley. Ordered the Lugnut sliders with cheese, Screaming Chicken fries, and a Butter Finger shake. Everything was average. Nothing really stood out to make me want to come back. Fries were soggy from the sauce. The burgers left me feeling gross afterward. Place looked unkept. The young lady at the window gave excellent customer service. Prob won't be back. Def had higher hopes. read more

BUYER BEWARE online orders provided through GrubHub set for take out, per the restaurant do not exist. Per GrubHub they do not deliver from the restaurant. Either way both the staff members and the owner Joe do not care about security nor customer service. One star for concept. I was so excited to try this location as was my 4 year old. Shakes and Fries, oh my! I love an online order so I was so excited to see Yelp partnered with GrubHub to facilitate that functionality for a new local business. Sadly some things are too good to be true. We called the restaurant at 5pm to confirm an online order was placed for take out picking up at 5:30. We were told by Erica that the order for Melissa D would be ready at that time. In the pouring rain my husband arrived with our young son for what should have been an easy prepaid pickup. At 5:34 I get a call from my husband that someone had already picked up my order. Imagine my confusion as no address was even included with my order. I asked, how did they verify the people picking up the order were picking up MY order? How did they know where to deliver it? I was assured it was on its way to the address associated with my card on file and it would be at my house when we got home. Myself and my husband and son arrived home from the restaurant and yet no delivery was in sight. I contacted the restaurant again and was told that is not "how GrubHub works" and that they pickup the food and deliver it. They told me they don't verify anything about the oder and just hand it over to them if they give the name. No confirmation of where it was being delivered, no concern or customer appreciation. I was told we never called to confirm the order by phone. Erica then said she didn't want to deal with his and hung up on me. So not only do I not have my order I also have been pretty much called a liar who doesn't know how GrubHub works. I contact GrubHub immediately to report the issue and was called back quicky by their agent who confirmed they would cancel the order after speaking with the owner. They also expressed they had asked if the restaurant would remake the order and they refused. Wow. I spoke with the owner who felt due to my escalated tone I was unable to communicate. I very clearly attempted to explain my frustrations but was told I would not let him "fix it" so he didn't know what I wanted. I was told I should come back and pick up the order but only after I explained via text how disappointing the service experience was vs our phone call where I was asked "so, are you all set? Another obvious nod to him being unwilling empathize with the events that transpired. Well Joe, what is for you to think about your business. I want you to listen before you speak over a person with a crying hungry child. I want you to honor your commitments and take ownership of problems. I would like you to think about contacting the police for the stolen food you gave away. Lastly I would like everyone to know how your business is run. If you cannot handle communication with a third party vendor due to your business size, take action and properly train yourself and your staff. You can pass blame on to GrubHub all you wish but as the business owner this is 100% on you. So the food could be excellent and sadly I will never know. I hope this experience will protect another busy family from being inconvenienced in this way. I have never had to write a review of this nature and hope to never again. TLDR: Be careful out there .... AxelRods is less of a shake shack and more of a shake down. read more

Found this place through yelp! Since we live nearby, my husband and I wanted to try it out for dinner. We ordered the cookies and cream milkshake, fries, tri-five tenders, lugnut with cheese sliders and hot rod deluxe sliders. My lugnut sliders were delicious--they have the special sauce in it, which makes it even more delicious! The fries were bland and I was disappointed that they didn't have more flavoring. My husband loved his milkshake, tenders and sliders. It was also the perfect amount of food--for the price, definitely worth it! Both the chicken and beef sliders are good and the fries have a good seasoning to them. I think the "signature fries" are a little expensive for what they are but the one I've had also tasted good. The service hasn't been bad the few times I've gone but my experience was definitely more positive when I ordered ahead. The food they make is not quick enough for a drive-thru format and you'll wait 8 - 10 minutes for your food which is acceptable for ordering ahead but not at the drive-thru. Overall?
