Rating: 4.0 Came to try this ice cream place since we live nearby and had not tried yet. It's a small local ice-cream shop located in Warwick RI. Inside is kind of like a diner converted into an ice cream shop. There is a counter where they serve ice creams and bunch of tables, seats and diner counter as well. When we came there were bunch of kids likely from the neighborhood. They offer hard, soft, dole whip, sundaes, waffle nachos, shakes, float and parfait with bunch of topping options. I tried their waffle cone cup with 1 scoop of strawberry cheese cake and 1 scoop of peanut butter pie hard ice-cream. Hard ice cream was pretty good. Waffle cone cup was a bit stale. Probably will just get sugar cone or ice cream in the cup next time. Service was good and staffs were nice. Keep in mind that it's cash only but there are bunch of signs outside so they make that clear. Overall it's a solid ice cream place. It's conveniently located near where i'm located which makes an easy stop for ice cream if my partner or I wants some ice cream. Only thing is that it was not particularly much different from other typical ice cream place. If you are looking for your standard ice cream and don't mind paying cash this is the place. read more

I love papas so much, however, i am extremely disappointed that they have discontinued their soft serve flavor line. my usual order consisted of one of their fruity soft serve swirls. i can no longer order that now seeing as all of their fruity soft serve flavors have been discontinued. their soft serve flavors were what made them unique and i am so sad seeing that they now have the same selection as any other ice cream place nearby. i wish that they would bring back these flavors as this loss has negatively impacted how my recent trips to papas have went. read more

Cute little family friendly ice cream spot! We stopped here on our way home from the beach and loved it. The employees were all friendly and helpful. This is a cash only establishment. They have tables and a bar for seating. I overheard that they give free pup cups for the dogs while placing my order. I ordered a hot fudge sundae and it was really good! I'd consider myself an ice cream expert, trying all places around Rhode Island and MA, and I absolutely loved Papa's ice cream! I'm typically a big home made ice cream girl but this place had an amazing assortment of hersheys ice cream, flavors from oatmeal cookie to peanut butter Oreo/cookie dough, coffee Oreo, Superman, crazy vanilla, and so much more. The ice cream was rich in flavor but not too heavy, and they had an assortment of toppings! They have a drive thru but I recommend going inside to see the awesome decor from old school diner to sports memorabilia. The staff was amazing, attentive, polite, patient and friendly!! When I left a tip they were extremely thankful, something that is not common. And lastly, a man who seemed to be the owner, was working along side the staff helping them with stocking ice cream and making sure they had everything they needed. Highly recommend!! read more

Cheerful service, wide selection of flavors and convenience. Huge plus? There's a drive thru!! Not homemade, but quality products that are always tasty. They have soft serve as well as hard. Also noticed that they have some vegan offerings. They are also open later so we can stop by to get our ice cream fix. Check hours as I do think they shift (and maybe close) during the fall/winter. We visited the shop early September as part of the RI Food Fights ice cream passport. The parking lot was a decent size. In front of the shop are several picnic tables. The inside of the shop was that of an old school ice cream parlor. There are low tables and a small red counter overlooking to records, Elvis, and other memorabilia. Papa's Ice Cream has the most flavors of Hershey's Ice cream I've ever seen in one shop, and that's not a bad thing! All flavors were listed on several boards with the ingredients, as shown on the Hershey's Ice Cream website. I definitely prefer this method of knowing what's in each flavor without asking. We were able to try multiple flavors without any issue. I selected Banana Pudding and the boyfriend selected Better Brownie Batter. The ice cream consistently appeared on point. It's a nice shop. I do not believe any other Hershey's shop has banana pudding so I might return for more. read more

One of our favorite local ice cream shops. The owner and staff are always smiling and pleasant. The drive Thru is such a great bonus especially when stopping with kids . There's usually a long line when we go, but the efficiency of the staff makes it move quickly. The taste of the ice cream is worth it. Every kind we've tried is delicious from coffee oreo, chocolate, cake batter , PB, Little Blue panda (unfortunately no longer available) . The shakes are so creamy and thick . One of the best ice cream shops in Rhode Island! A great selection of flavors in both hard and soft serve, and generous portions as well. We have our favorites when I visit, but every time I try something new I'm always pleasantly surprised. Great service from a wonderful team, and I love the Elvis decor! Papa's Ice Cream is a great ice cream shop in Warwick. It was pertly of outdoor and indoor seating to enjoy your ice cream right away. They have an insane variety of Hershey's Ice cream flavors, as well as, plenty of soft serve and topping options. My boyfriend had the rum raisin which is his favorite and I have the honey roasted peanut butter. I have to say my flavor was incredibly rich and I was unable to finish the (very big) small sized cup. A small is around 4 huge scoops of ice cream, so you definitely get a bang for your buck. read more

I was craving a chocolate milkshake on a recent weeknight, and this was the first ice cream place I happened to stumble upon, so I pulled in. Although the parking lot is a bit small, and they happen to have a drive-up window (which is a bit unusual for a mom-and-pop ice cream stand), somehow, I was able to navigate and park my full-size pickup truck with no problem. Talk about options - they sure give you plenty of options, from where you can place your order (drive-up window; outdoor walk-up window; and indoors at the counter); to the sheer variety of ice cream flavors; to where you can eat your ice cream (indoors; outdoors at fenced-in picnic tables; or at your vehicle). The outdoor ordering window is small, and apparently, employees were more focused on drive-up customers, and customers inside. I got tired of waiting for someone to open the window, so I walked inside to order. Even then, service was awkward. Instead of asking me if I needed more time to decide, a young woman just stood there, silent. I thought maybe she wasn't ready to help me yet, but I guess she was waiting for me to speak up first, so I wish the service was more proactive than passive. As I waited for the employee to make my milkshake, I observed that the inside of Papa's was tiny, with only a few tables. Someone made a kitschy attempt at using 50s-era memorabilia to decorate, but indoors really didn't have much of an atmosphere. It was, however, clean, including the bathroom, so there's that. I paid around $4 for a small milkshake, which was slightly pricey, in my opinion. I walked outdoors, but decided I'd feel most comfortable drinking my shake in my truck, as the outdoor tables in front of the restaurant didn't seem any more relaxing than indoors, due to being surrounded by a PVC picket fence. It seemed rather confining (as the old country music song goes, "don't fence me in ..."). The milkshake tasted good, but the consistency was marred by small chunks of ice throughout, so there was either an issue with their blender, or operator error. It did satisfy the craving. Overall, I'd probably rate Papa's 3.5 stars. I might have rated it 4 stars, if the service was better (it wasn't super busy), but I rounded 'em down to 3 stars due to lack of ambiance and my texturally-odd, chunky-style shake. read more

When you need to scream for ice cream Absolutely great ice cream joint. Many different flavors and combinations with friendly and funny staff. "Are you really going to eat that whole thing?" Yeah I ate it and it was GOOD! Has a little area with picnics tables in the front, but at least on one occasion some idiot drove through the area and smashed things up. No one was hurt but I tend to watch my back when I sit there. The element of danger adds to the causal ambience. A great place to pack on some extra pounds.for the summer. read more
