A classic serving up legit weiners outside of Olneyville. This location is a staple and has been around for quite a while and continues to satisfy. A friendly team can always be found inside as you order from the counter or take a few minutes eating in their "retro-esque" vibe. Definitely worth the stop. No frills, but you'll get your fill! read more

It's been a while since I've been here but I must say NOT QUITE LIKE I REMEMBER IT ! The rolls were so soggy and wet which ruined the whole wiener! The wiener dogs didn't seem like the smaller wiener dogs - and again rolls not the same. Sorry about this but it just not the same place I remember. read more

BLT from New York Lunch in Woonsocket. $5.50. Cash only. Included chips and a snappy quarter pickle. Perfectly toasted bread. Crispy lettuce and tomato. The bacon was paper thin and salty, but not smoky like I prefer. Sandwich alone- I would give it a 6. Whole lunch experience- 8. Overall a very nice cheap lunch. I would like to try the grilled cheese next time. They also have dynamites, many other sandwiches, wieners, breakfast and some whole meal options. read more

Came for the Saturday meat pie, but they were sold out. So we sat with a weiner combo $10.50 as we killed time before our next adventure. Weiners were tasty and definitely what we were looking for. Service was on par with what we're used to. Friendly. Fast. And they knew what was going on. It's a small town diner. Lots of stuff on the wall that shows how the time has passed. read more

Writing this one from the treadmill, trying to sweat it out So I'd go more 3.5, but due to extreme friendliness gave a round up. The chicken is most definitely pre-made/frozen generic stuff. The wieners are average, not bad though. I was a little taken back by my 'club' sandwich. It is anything but traditional. It was more like a chicken, bacon sandwich. Bummer, since I was really craving a traditional club‍Once and done for me personally. The locals were coming and going for the weiners, so it's a hometown spot for sure. That's all I have to say about that. Bon appetite! read more

The wieners were amazing with no snap at all, people are super nice, and they give you free candy (dictated by Daddy)

First time going, and will never come back. They screwed up my order. The cook got mad because she was asked to correct it, then she didn't bother doing it anyway. read more

Three wiener special is the way to go - with onion rings for sure! I grew up eatting weiners from another establishment so I compare all weiners to the other places meat sauce which I love. It was a Friday night. We walked in and we're unsure if we order at the counter or if there is wait staff for tables. We sat down and then went to the counter. I had 2 weiners. I would prefer the onions chopped smaller and the meat sauce was very thin but a lot. Overall it was ok. We ordered a large fry... Not so large for 2 adults and a child to share. Then where do we pay? But I have to say kudos for keeping this place straight old school RI. Cluttered walls with all kinds of 'memorabilia', red booths and a juke box! read more

Used to be Better Of all of the greasy spoon wiener joints that infest the state of Rhode Island, this used to be my favorite. It's a guilty pleasure. However, something slipped here. I know it changed ownership recently, but the old owner still works here, so I don't know what happened. RI wieners are a very subjective item among natives. Everyone has a favorite joint, but this spot had the most consistent version. Not anymore. My last couple of visits, the product has been subpar. Buns not steamed enough, wiener a bit dry, and very salty sauce. For years, these issues weren't a problem, which set it apart from all of the others. Overall, they still serve a good wiener, and it's still a cool late night spot to grab some grease to cover up a night of drinking, but I think my heart is now with NY System in Olneyville. This place is CLASSIC !! Like stepping back in time. And the wieners are awesome. Great service and very friendly. Highly recommend!

Go! Super friendly staff, basic diner fare, limited menu but who cares, it's about the weiners! Let me say, I preferred them substantially above New York System's in PVD. Go "with" the works, the minced raw onions don't over power, nor does the meat sauce--you still get distinct flavors and textures...and the special includes 3 with fries/or onion rings. Hey, relax! It's just fun, nice, and Woonsocket is a city you have to respect! read more

NYL went downhill fast after the original owner sold out several years ago. They sold to an foreign family that didn't even know what hot weiners were. Now they are no better than that rathole called Moonlight.... Just another hole in the wall selling garbage weiners and stale rolls. Went here once and will never go back. Got rotten meat or meat sauce and stale rolls. If you want real, original and good weiners, you have to go to Providence. There's also Sam's in North Providence. Very good but they are way overpriced. read more

I've been coming here for so many years I can't count. Back I the day they would line them up on their arm without any protection. The wieners still taste the same way I always remember. Something comforting about a place that has consistently makes food food. read more

While I don't like weiners as a whole, I must say that the cheese fries are amazingly delicious , they are perfectly crispy and not made soggy by the creamy cheese, the staff are very professional and polite, I love that they have vintage signs everywhere, the root beer float is also very good, would recommend the grilled cheese sandwich for picky eaters like me read more

Love this place. Reminds me of Jack's hotdogs back home in the Berks. The Monkees is always on TV on Saturday's at lunch time so I like to sit at the bar. We have been a couple of times and will def become regulars here. Two thumbs way up. This place is not fancy. But it IS perfect. read more

Anyone giving this place less than 5 stars really needs to ask themselves what this place could do better. Personally, I'm drawing a blank, but then again I haven't been coming here for as long as some of the other patrons. It is what it is, a wiener spot, and you can bet that when I'm in Woonsocket and in need a meal and welcoming service I'll be thinking of New York Lunch. read more

Honestly... I would take Tex Barry's over this place 8 out of 10 times, but this place has a great customer base (always packed), price that is unbeatable at $1.60 per weiner, and great, friendly service. This makes it completely difficult to rate it less than 5 stars. Not to mention the weiners are delicious here! I would say it's better than Olneyville New York System without even thinking twice about it. read more

This place is one of the 2 places I have to eat at whenever I come to Woonsocket. The gaggas were as I remembered and the coffee milk was great. The place hasn't changed in years, only the faces are different. Only in Rhode Island can you get a New York system hot weiner. read more

As I occasionally do business in the Woonsocket area, I find myself in a position to try out the local fare. Having never had a "New York System Weiner" before- I tried them out all over town, until I found New York Lunch. Something about them just tastes a little different from the others; maybe it's the combination of the seasonings in the meat sauce, or simply just an extra shake of celery salt. The "special" is reasonably priced as well and $6.25 (inc. tax) for three weiners, a generous order of fries, (always piping hot) and a fountain soda. The atmosphere is "old school" diner. Right on the edge of we're-trying-to-look-like-an-old-fashioned-lunch-counter, and actually being it. Staff was friendly and personable. I've yet to try any of the other menu items, so this is a "weiners only" review! read more

Ive been coming to New York System since I was kid. They have some of the best wieners around. It has been in the same family for years and they are so friendly. The only way to order a wiener is with the works!! Its not a very big place but it has a classic diner feel to it. Back in the day when you had a large order the cook would stack them up his arm to make the wieners. They cannot do it anymore. I miss it. I think it added some flavor. read more

I'm probably one of the few people that eschew going to Olneyville to come get wieners here. Tim's got a good thing going here. Although I have to be in a mood to have "gaggahs" when I do have them it never disappoints. The burgers are a good alternative, too, for those days when you're just not feelin' it. Ask for a coffee milk to be wicked traditional. :) I guarantee you'll enjoy your stay, especially with the prices! read more

I've been coming here since I was a teenager. My friend and I used to take our tip money from bussing tables at Chan's and spend some of it on weiners at New York Lunch. I usually go from 3 or 4 weiners with an order of fries and a soda and it's been consistently great. There's something about watching Tim, the owner, line up a dozen weiners on his arm as he throws on all the toppings with speed and precision right next to a picture of his father doing the same thing back in the day. They've really revamped the place since I started going as well. Lots of new decor, they've opened up the second room, I think there's even a TV in there now. Everyone who works there, especially Tim, is very nice and helpful. They have to be to put up with some of the crazies that wander in late on a Friday or Saturday night. Their prices have always been reasonable. If it wasn't for Woonsocket turning more and more into a shithole, I'd go there more often. That being said, this is still the best weiner joint around. read more

I've been eating here since I was a little kid. Now I take my kids there. The consistency is terrific. Sure, it's not healthy, but whatever...just don't go there every day. The weiners are very good, and I love the fries. It's not fancy. But it's affordable, the food is good and it's a fun experience if you sit at the counter and watch how they assemble steamed buns, weiner, meat sauce, onions and celery salt, 10 at a time, all on top of one arm (kids especially love that part). In the olden days there was no arm glove. I'm kind if glad for the glove update if I'm going to be honest. Oh, and fresh coffee milk...mmm... Don't be afraid of where it's located - there are nice people inside. Just park on the road and walk across the street. Open till 2am. Welcome to Rhode Island! read more

One of my fellow Yelpers prefers New York Lunch OVER Olneyville, so I had to stop in and try for myself. I was worried about parking since this place is in the historic district, but then I remembered that Woonsocket is an economic sinkhole, so there's not too much going on. Parking was easy, right on the street. Anyways, this place is super cool and friendly. The weiners were very good and, in my opinion, second behind Olneyville due to the amount of toppings. The buns were super fresh and steamed, the wiener perfectly cooked, meat sauce was right on, and the onions were chopped a little bigger and cooked out more than Olneyville, so they're not as harsh. The toppings were a little light compared to ONYS, but the price was considerably lower. read more

New York Lunch has been serving up it's famous weiners forever. These hot dogs are like nothing you've ever had. The weiners themselves are kept warm on a grill while the buns are kept in a steam table. They place your weiner in a bun and add mustard, onion, and their special meat sauce and a sprinkle of celery salt. It's fantastic. They also have other items...but who cares...the weiners are the star attraction. They also have one of those silver milk dispenser machines....it has coffee milk inside! For those who are unfamiliar with Rhode Island, it's the state drink and darn good. As for the location, there is convienient parking in market square about a block away and that will enable you to access downtown Woonsocket as well. read more

It's a weiner shop that has been around for sometime now. One of the better places around and way better than onlyville weiner. Can get crazy with the late night crowds at time and a bit of a wait. Whiners are done like most are they places steamed. Inside was nice really done like an early diner would be plenty of room now inside. Almost reminds me of a Johnny rockets. People are friendly and always willing to chat. Other food there is good as well. It's clean and well lit inside and taken care of. read more

I paid a visit to this place a couple of times during my stay there and those "weina's" are certainly in a class of their own. The coffee milk was pretty good as well. Now, when all the bars closed, the only things on my mind was getting some of those tasty weiners. When we got to NY Lunch, there was a line out the door. When we finally made it inside, I noticed that the guy prepping the weiners was placing about ten or so weiners on one BARE arm and used his free arm to add the meat sauce and other toppings. Having the weiners on a bare arm did raise some Unsanitary Flags for me. But to make matters worse, his other arm had a bunch of sores on it. Sadly, I did eventually eat only one. I say again, just one. If he would've worn a plastic sleeve like the some of the other weiner shops, I certainly would have ordered a hell of a lot more than just one. read more

My adorable husband is from Woonsocket, spent his whole life scouring the streets of Woonsocket. I am a Boston gal, so one time when I was picking him up from work, I noticed all over the place, "Wieners sold here, get your wieners here", there just seems to be a market for wieners in Woonsocket. So my adorable husband says, "You wanna try some gaggers and beers? (sounds like gaggas and be-ahs, of course) and I say, yeah, I'm game. So we go into to New York Lunch. Hubby orders four, two loaded and two not, a bag of chips and two rootbeers. When we get to the car, we open the bag and proceed to munch on our delightful Woonsocket gaggers. I eat up the yummy chips and I go to wash down my lunch with an ice cold rootbeer (because rootbeer just seems to go so well with these dogs). . .and I get a mouthful of Coca-Cola. I will say that the Coke was my only disappointment. But I will tell you one thing, I will be watching for that plastic sleeve I've been hearing about with the dude with the funky arm. Yum!!! read more

Being new to the Woonsocket area, I had the feeling this was one of those places I just had to try. Growing up in Worcester MA, we ordered "hot dogs" from Coney Island. And we ordered them "3 up" if you wanted 3 dogs with everything on it. So coming into New York Lunch was a whole new ballgame! First off, you've got weiners, not hot dogs. Secondly, you're ordering "3 all the way" and they've got no chili, but meat sauce. And celery salt. ?! Let me tell you, DELICIOUS. Not only were the wieners scarfed down in just a few minutes, but the fries were overflowing and piping hot. The staff was the friendliest I've met in Woonsocket yet. It is always an absolute pleasure to go to New York Lunch for a quick, cheap lunch/dinner and a friendly atmosphere. They've got plenty of seating, too! I've tried the wieners at a few other places in the area but none can compare to these! read more
