When I first visited Southern Pines years ago, my mom took me here. I was a little bit skeptical, I'm not going to lie. It's right next to a gas station and the name...well...let's just say I had questions. Usually it's the places that are a hole in the wall and dives that are the best, though. Let me just say...after I ordered my sandwich and saw that it came with pickles, I was already a happy camper before I tried the sandwich. That was probably around four years ago. Then I took a bite...and it was unlike any sandwich I'd ever had before. It did get a little messy, but what's good food without it being a little messy? Honestly, I'm kind of a mess so it probably had something to do with that. Four years later - nothing had changed. I love going there to get a sandwich when I'm in the area. I just wish they were open a little later. My top three picks are the Birdie, Greek, and Real Italian. You can't go wrong with any of them. I've also tried the Wally, Sand, Pitching, Flip, Original, and New Yorker (sometimes a family member will let me try some of their sandwich...and vice versa). All great. There is just something about my top three though. I love that they are made fresh to order, that you can customize them, that they have an option for gluten free bread, and unsweetened or sweet tea (their unsweetened tea is delicious). I usually get an extra pickle when I remember. They have decent selections for sides as well. Nothing like a good sandwich from Wedgies and a cool drink in the summer! I do wish for more drink and side options...but that's me being super nit-picky. Get yourself a sandwich from Wedgies! You won't be sorry. Sometimes, calling ahead or placing an order ahead is the best way to go because it's usually very busy. Give a nice smile to all the kind people there as well. They do work hard! read more

Unassuming location, but the capacity quickly became overwhelmed at lunch, because clearly many folks know how good these sandwiches are. Yes, the bread is quite peculiar but it's delicious, and the stuff between the "slices" is equally good as well as plentiful. I went with the Real Italian and found it full of flavor. Wedgies is where the Exxon gas station is in Southern Pines. Gas prices are higher in this area than surrounding towns and counties. Of course when I saw the cheaper gas, I didn't need it yet. I got gas here two days in a row as my road trip took me on a journey around the area. The station has tap to pay, and a car wash. Wedgies shares the location with a gas station but it is an amazing sandwich shop. I have never tried bread like this and it was amazing and the portions are large. They off gluten free for an extra charge and low-carb at no extra charge. The staff is friendly they have many options and the prices are not too bad. I read the reviews before I decided to go. The appeal of this place was questionable for me because it is attached to a gas station. Do not let that deter you! This is a hidden gem! I was excited because I have a gluten allergy & they have gluten-free bread. They also made my sandwich in a clean environment which I truly appreciated. I was grateful when she made sure to alert the staff I was allergic & to change gloves & wipe everything down. I ordered my sandwich which was a Reuben with sauerkraut. My husband ordered his Pinky sandwich on keto bread. Gluten-free bread isn't always flavorful, but this sandwich was completely delicious. My husband stated he could've eaten two of his own, lol. An unassuming spot with limited space. I ordered the 1/2 wedge combo with pulled pork, chips, and a cookie. Upon arrival the line was out the door and there are two designated lines. One for online orders and another for in-store orders., I placed my order 20 minutes before arrival and checked in at the counter. The counter person asked me my name looked at the orders and without providing a response or wait time went to help someone else. Forty minutes later my order was ready sans the cookie because they ran out and were not baking anymore for the day. The wedgie was a decent size and had great flavor. You can't beat the price. Wedgies is in Southern Pines across the street from Casa Mexicana. It's literally at the gas station but don't let that stop you from trying them! Great sandwiches with cool bread. Pressed flat and run through an oven. I had the pitching sandwich which is basically ham and turkey. Maybe a little smaller than others but very tasty. Mello Yello on tap! A lot of regular golfers meet up here for a quick bite. It takes a few minutes for the sandwiches ti make it out of the oven but it's worth it. Our first time going here, it is right next to the Exxon gas station. You have to call ahead to order and it takes about 10 minutes to get your order. We ordered the Flip, Italian and BLT wedgies with potato salad and they were amazing!!! Outdoor seating is available and there is plenty of shade and you can bring your dog - they have a leash and dog bowl outside. Lots of people outside enjoying the food and weather. There is a cute little truck outside and looks like a table for kids. I've been eating here 3 years, 1-4 times a month because I work 1/4 mile away. It's always always always hot, fresh. They are efficient and friendly. They know me by name which cane be hard to do for a place as well visited by the community as it is. It's a staple place for my work lunch break. I nearly always get a Willy and a broccoli salad. The bronco salad does not have bacon for the rare few who don't like it. It's so tasty I don't miss it. And of course you can ask for them to add it in if so desired. read more
