Workshop Tavern has quickly become one of those places I can't stop recommending. It's rare to find a spot where the food, service, and atmosphere all hit the mark every single time, but they've managed to pull it off. The dishes are packed with flavor, clearly made with quality local ingredients, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the level of creativity coming out of the kitchen. The staff is consistently warm and attentive, making you feel like you've been coming there for years. They do take reservations, which is great for bigger groups (anything over six), and even when there's a wait, it moves fast. Never long enough to be a hassle. Okay, looks like I get to play spoiler here, but I call them like I see them, not like I wish they would be. This place is so-so. Only street parking from what I seen. They're a dime a dozen anymore, oh, let's create a craft beer/whiskey bar with bar food in some trendy spot with a trendy name. Voila $$$s. Not impressed. Menu is WAY overpriced for what you get. Mac & cheese bowls average $20? It's just Mac &cheese with a little BBQ pork or whatever. Oh and I asked the waitress if she had any Texas Pete, and she looked at me like I was a space alien and said no. Texas Pete is made in NC, buy some guys, people like it here, and seeing how the BBQ Mac and cheese was sort of bland, it needed some TP. "Cozy" is just another way to say "too small". If you want to be a bar, be a bar, but I'll be honest the food just wasn't worth it. Now, is it really just a bar? Well stocked? Not really. It's mainly a "bourbon" bar. Waitress didn't know what a painkiller or a bushwhacker is, and a Painkiller is made properly with Pussers but most don't do that, it's essentially a pineapple pina colada with nutmeg, or just order these in Florida if you visit. I'll admit some bars just don't know but if you claim to be a full selection bar then carry Pusser's Rum and know that a Bushwacker is a chocolatey Pina Colada famous around Pensacola and USVI. Yet they have like a 60 page drink menu. Sorry maybe I'm grumpy, I came back and gave them 2 stars. Actually, it's hard to find a place that knows how to make good bourbons drinks like an Old Fashioned and Manhattans. I had a very good Old Fashioned. So let's say 2/5 and YMMV and maybe I'll try them again, see how they do with a Sazerac. I went to school at UK in Lexington KY so I know my bourbon drinks. I got spoiled having my first (and best ever) Mojito in a small bar in San Juan PR, but I'll give yours a chance. read more

We stopped into this DELICIOUS place earlier this week, and we cannot wait to go back! It was a Monday and very busy for lunchtime which I love to see. The ambiance was classy and cozy. All the specialty cocktails around me looked beautiful. What a great menu, it was hard to pick what to get as we sat there and saw everything come out! We got the hotdog, the hummus plate, and of course we had to try the Mac and cheese. Everything was wonderfully presented and tasted equally delicious! The service was quick and very friendly. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. All the tables were full, but we were able to sit at the bar. The feel of the restaurant and bar is very cool. There is original artwork everywhere. The bar selection is HUGE! We ended up having wine and a vodka cocktail. The vodka cocktail was delicious! For dinner we ordered the tacos and the Havana. So so good! The service was perfect! Even though the place was full, our water glasses were filled and we were checked on just the right amount to make sure we were doing great. We will definitely return! read more

A group I was with stopped by for dinner after a day at Carolina Horse Park. I always try to find local restaurants to try versus chains. There were about 8 of us and the host was helpful in putting two tables together for us outside. The staff were friendly and attentive, even as things got busier into the evening. My chicken Caesar was good, not mind blowing, but decent. It came with a side of chips. They have a nice sized selection of drinks ranging from craft beer to mimosa flights and cocktails. read more

Appreciate this place on so many levels. Great spirit selection although not drinking for lunch. Ordered the Prime Rib and Mushroom Melt with side of mac and the Greek Plate with Souvlaki. Sandwich was tasty, good bread. Greek plate unfortunately was nothing to write home about. Souvlaki seemed heated up vs. made in house. Same with hummus. Good olives though. Adding this to our list of restaurants we like to go to when we are in Pinehurst 2-3x a year. I had a salad with a delicious chicken breast on top. The small was like a large in most places. On a Saturday evening my daughter enjoyed the prime rib special (great mashed potatoes and corn as the side). I liked the shrimp lettuce wraps and my husband had the bbq plate. I ate his corn muffin and loved it. Service was great and considering my daughter has eaten here 3 times in less than 10 days - I would say this restaurant is a winner! The Workshop Tavern was one of our favorite restaurants when we moved to Southern Pines this year. We've had lunches and dinners. My husband was only underwhelmed by the Spicy chicken Mac. Just a personal taste. On the too sweet side. But always received good service. We ordered for pick up and got home less than 10 mins only to be sad as the mac n cheese was dry and unflavored.
