Came from California with my dune buggy, that had been in my garage since 1984 finally decided to get it going all the way and I called Paul and he said bring it down, the state of Arizona wanted an emissions test, (this buggy's parts were made before emissions even existed) and it failed, Let me tell you these guys are the bomb! Took our "new" 1974 VW Super Beetle to Wedge Vee Dubs after buying it off Craigslist in Fresno without even having seen it. It ran but wasn't starting consistently. It has been garage kept for probably 5-10 years. Anyhow Paul at Wedge Vee Dubs was great and got it starting good and running smoother. Took my bug in to have the dash swapped out and a new steering wheel installed. Kept the car for almost 2 months, charged over $2k. My daughter who was having trouble with her Vanagon called them and asked if she could bring it in. She was stranded out in the desert and trying to make her way into town and needed a VW specific repair shop. Paul (manager) proceeded to tell her that they hate working on Vanagons, and that she shouldn't be using it for travel. Funny, that's what they are made for aren't they Paul? Pretty heartless Paul. I can't believe the negative reviews that I am reading. We have been taking our VWs here for years. Never thought to write a review until I "googled" in order to pull up their hours. We have been to other VW shops in the Phoenix area and there is no comparison to Wedge. They have always done great work for us. Let me drop a note here for the potential customers ! You don't give a quote of over $600 cost to a solution which has handled less than $100. I hate so much when these type of repair shops realize how limited you know about the car and they just want to take advantage of it. Unfortunately, these people have treated me that way and I feel responsible to let you know that if you are gonna ask their service, make sure you get quotes for the same problem from at least two other repair shops. Bought my first bug the other day. I am unfamiliar with it right now. First, I got there, and the guy I spoke to on the phone was talking to another customer. NO PROB!! I have no prob with that, just ACKNOWLEDGE ME and tell me "I'll be right with you" Don't act like I'm not even there. Finally, a nicer guy comes out and helps me out and looks at the bug which was in their garage for service about 2 weeks prior for points adjustment. HE ASSURES ME that anything he finds that is minor, he will fix for free due. Turns out, the vehicle ran outta gas. Like I said, I am very unfamiliar with this car and the gas guage on it is confusing, so yeah, it's stupid to run outta gas and bring it in for service, but it is what it is. THEY CHARGED ME $77 to adjust points that they adjusted 2 weeks prior and on top of that, the guy in the office started talking trash about the guy that sold me the vehicle when I went in to pick it up. When I drove it home, the THROTTLE CABLE broke. Common occurence in this vehicle, I am told, but I find it suspicious. After all the crappy service I got there, I suspect that they may have tampered with my throttle cable to get it to break easier. 2 guys were real nice there, Big Willy and some other guy, not sure his name. I gave Big Willy the customized plate that came with the vehicle cuz he collects them. Still got the shaft in my opinion. Why should I get charged for points adjustment that was performed there 2 weeks prior? They sure don't know how to win a loyal new customer, that's for sure. I KNOW they stiffed me, but Oh Well, LESSON LEARNED!! Got the BBB response today. That's right, Chris Maxey, I was a 1st time customer. I am also a LAST TIME customer. I love these guys. My daughter bought a '70 Baja from them, (now dubbed Burt) and with a few minor fixes (and instructions on how to do them ourselves) she has a great 1st car. I appreciate the time they take to walk through the simple things and the enthusiasm they have for the brand. My girlfriend bought a new 71 SuperBeetle and we had emailed Wedge about inspecting it and helping us get a list together of priorities for repairs/maintenance. The first day we drove it it took a crap and we had to tow it to Wedge. While waiting for the tow truck our email was replied to and we called and told the we were coming. Paul was able to diagnose the issue and give us a pretty good idea of the stuff he needed to do as well as get it through emissions. He gave us an estimate and less than a week it was all done and through emissions. He was friendly and very knowledgeable and the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the estimate and the actual price was higher. He obviously did more then anticipated which is understandable but my bank account hurts. I would definitely recommend them and I will definitely be back. read more

Looks like my review just written wss premature. I'm wcn and just wrote my first reveiw a coupleweeks ago. The reason I should have waited, well i left Yuma, az. headed back to Z Z Oregon where Ilive, ass nd guess what happened to the $3100 head job these people st the Wedge did for me? The engine totally failed. I put exactly 1231miles on that engine before it broke down in Fernlry ,Nv. I had it pulled to the VW dealer in Reno, Nv. As nd after their inspection of the problem they told me in no un certain terms than the Wedge screwed up the repair job they did. I had the head gaskets copletley fail, as nd leaked antifreze all thoughout the entire engine. They claim the engine is shot and completely froze up, If you think I would hall the entire car back from Reno to Phoenix on the chance that these people would honor their warrantee? Not a chance! That's $3100 down the tubes. I wouldn't let these people touch anything I ever owned again, not if they were the only people in the biz. They are not. Go somewhete else is my advice. Do yourself a favor and read my first review. These people treated me like crap, played imature games with me, over charged me and did an absolutely crappy job. That valve job lasted 1231 miles total before breaking down, and they gave me the car back with problems I didn't have when I took it in there (leeking radiator), and I had to spend another $90 at a shop back in Yuma to correct the incorrect radiator bleed job they didn't do correctly. After years of stellar service at Karl's VW, we were told 'Paul' our hero had gone. BUT, they recommended a shop near by that works on new Beetles. Ours isn't so new any more, but wifey will drive it into the sunset before she retires it. The crew at the NEW shop, Wedge Automotive was a lot of the same folks that worked on wifey's Beetle for the last 10 years. Brought in my 1973 VW Super Beetle which I aquired from a family member. It was in fairly good shape I needed a once over since it was stalling a bit and leaking oil. Chris and Paul are awesome and explained each item that I needed for repair and what items I could hold off and repair at a future date. Chris kept me abreast of the repair process and had a few suggestions for items that needed to be repaired. Goodness the car is 40 years old and I knew that it needed a few items. They completed the car on time...and not more oil leak or stall's. This will be the only place that this Bug will be going for any work. Took my van in to get the clutch replaced which they did. Being from out of town I immediately headed north through Payson, climbing the long hill noticed fluid on my rear window. Pulled over checked it out smelled liked tranny fluid. Called and drove back, they put it on the hoist pulled the tranny plug and fluid poured out. Is it possible to over fill it? The mechanic that removed the plug didn't think it was possible but whoever worked on it the first time found a way. Never had this problem before. Two months later outside of Arlington, WA the clutch went. The old clutch lasted 240,000km ( Can. vehicle), the new one less than 10,000km. Packaged the clutch up, mailed it to them and sent an email expecting a response which I never received. The shop in Snohomish were amazed the clutch could go that quickly and said they would have replaced it if they had done the work, easy for them to say I realize. Couldn't recommend this shop as there are others in Phoenix. Wish I could remember the name but there is one on the SE side, not as convenient a location but had minor work done there the year before when I was passing through and had me back on the road in a short time, very helpful. If you're going to run a business in today's world understand that the Internet is a powerful resource, shoddy workmanship and poor customer service is going to cost!! read more

i just moved to the valley and needed help with my audi. it overheated on the way to work a few weeks ago. the guy Rod came out and made a temporary repair & filled it up.
