This is my story and this happened a year ago. I came back here to write a review and warn others of this place that scams customers for money. The reason I waited so long to write a review is because I went against their advice of replacing something they said was broken and I didn't think it was. I've been driving my vehicle for a year since my experience with this fraud business and my vehicle runs fine. It started a year ago when my battery died. They were the closest shop to me and were very friendly at first. They charged me almost $600 for a new battery which was a little absurd but I needed my car running so I accepted. They wanted to run a diagnostic test cause they heard something coming from my engine. When they called me back the next day they said my oil pump was bad and wanted to charge me $6400 to get it fixed. An oil pump broken... on a 2020 Hybrid RAV4. Being a student, I didn't have the money for that so I declined and did some research. The part to replace costs only $200, so it would cost $6200 in labor? Even if you took the engine out of the car it shouldn't cost that much in labor. So I called my friend who works on cars and said that price is ridiculous and at most is $4000 to fix. I then got another opinion, this time from my mechanic I normally go to in Tempe. He asked if I heard noise from the engine. I said no, just the normal noise an engine makes. He said if the oil pump went bad and I was driving, my car would be throwing a fit and giving me signals that something is wrong. He said to not take it back to that shop and call him if I notice something wrong in my car. Well here I am, one year later still driving my RAV4 everyday to work and occasionally going up north to off-road for some camping trips. This shop tried to lie its way into stealing $$6400 from me. The sad part was they were so nice at first and when I declined their work for the oil pump, when I went to pickup my car they didn't even make eye contact with me when I walked in the building. I stood there for 5 minutes while they fiddled on their computers. No "hey welcome in" or "how can I help you?". Just sat there and didn't acknowledge me then printed a receipt and gave me my key. Legitimately a terrible business with horrible scamming people that work here. I warn anyone to stay away from this business. read more

We took our Smart car there after another repair shop told us nothing was wrong with it. After about 20 minutes the technician came and explained in full the problem he located, what it would take to fix and got the parts ordered. It now runs like it was new and we could not be more pleased. Everyone there was friendly and so informative about our vehicle. My car recently failed emissions and needed work done. I was qualified for the VRP program and it showed they were one of the qualified auto repair shops! WHICH THEY ARE MORE THAN QUALIFIED . As soon as I went in they were straight to the point! They gave me an estimate and told me they can fix my car and pass emissions for me! so all I had to do is register it when I got home. They kept well contact with me letting me know of any hiccups which btw wasn't any. Other than the amazing work they do. They were so honest, polite, and welcoming. Im going back to them from now on. I had a really negative first experience at Bell Road Automotive. I understand this is not everyone's experience, but I was really discouraged by this company's customer service and their ethics. Customer service- For starters, we were refused the service that we wanted for our vehicle. As we voiced our complaints, we were met with some really disappointing excuses and intimidation. I have never been in a customer service scenario where I felt less understood and less listened to. When the conflict was over, the owner, Andre, decided to stare at me while the receipts were printing as a form of intimidation. It was a poor look for sure. Ethics- We received a grant for $900 to repair our vehicle at approved locations. It's called VVRP; mind you, the grant is funded by tax payer dollars. Andy's rates are $1000 more than the quotes from places that are not in the VVRP program. This means that Andy has increased his rates to benefit from taxpayer dollars and over paying customers. I am really disappointed in this company, and I have experienced my last visit with them. read more

Price was expensive 75+ tax for inspection of vehicle to figure out the issue. plus when they found out what they thought was the problem they quoted me 2954.37 Well he figured something completely different out about the car he said it was the AC Compressor clutch. And a tension belt. He said u can only replace clutch if u buy whole new ac. There's been no problems with my ac .my ac Works fine out here in this heat. But still my car had the same issue once I started driving and I went back to store and asked him he said the sound that I'm hearing was from the ac compressor. I was puzzled so I went to 2 other shops and they both told me wheel bearing. The one I went with was on 19n Campbell he looked at my car in the shop and confirmed wheel bearing. He fixed it that day and quote was super cheap. Around 300$. I'm like how do I pay 75 to inspect my car and they find a different problem that I didn't even know about? While this other place inspected for free and actually fixed the issue I was concerned about. No more loud noises when going past 40 lol. Even said he would do the 2954$ job for 1300$. It was quick service I will say. And somewhat friendly staff. Long story short I paid 75 plus tax for an inspection and they told me the thing wrong was my ac compressor and a belt. Costs would be $2950+ the ac never has problem for me so I was stump. Went to 2 other mechanics and they both said wheel bearing. They gave me a super low quote after inspecting the car for free. So I went with that and now my car is not making noise anymore when I go past 40. read more

This is going to be somewhat difficult since the owners are seemingly nice people. I brought my Wrangler JK to this shop for a general inspection and possible radiator leak as i was slowly losing coolant fluid. The Jeep overheated on my trip to Heber, i found out my coolant reserve was low, after replenishing the coolant the jeep was fine. Their inspection found a radiator leak and so it was recommended to replace it along with a cooling system flush. After this work was done, the Jeep is overheating past 2000RPM. They recommended replacing the thermostat. And then they replaced the thermostat again due to issues. Jeep is still overheating past 2000RPM. They recommended replacing the water pump. Same issue still. At this point, there was not much to replace on the cooling system, so they recommended hooking up yje computer and get some reading to find out what's going on. Clearly they didn't know what the problem was and were replacing cooling components hoping to fix the issue. I lost faith in their ability, so i took my Jeep to a different mechanic. Same day, the other shop knew exactly what was going on. Bell Road Automotive had replaced my radiator and thermostat with after market parts, and so the jeep was overheating when load is applied to the engine as the after market parts couldn't keep up. Upon replacing the radiator and thermostat with genuine OEM parts by the new mechanic, the jeep is running perfectly. Bell road does not want to refund me this money as they say, they used OEM parts. The new mechanic gave me the after market radiator and thermostat, i looked up the part #s and guess what i found... After market parts. In fact, the thermostat they used, says 'China' on it. Qnd the radiator is made by Agility after market. What do you think? read more

After getting a quote from another place around the corner for almost $2000. I took it in and he told me all I needed to fix was my wheel bearing. I asked him to also look at another issue I had had since then. which turned out to be an oil sensor the total bill was $530 they were honest upfront and did the work in a day. not only that they went to Discount Tire to get the tire key because I didn't have one. The owners were a nice couple who moved to Arizona from Rhode Island. The husband does all the work on the cars and his wife takes care of the customers in front. A very cool down to earth couple. They are great. I noticed that the wife also sells Avon products. She had a little room displaying her items for sale. When I was there women were coming in for their Avon needs. I thought it was cool. Didn't seem to interrupt the car repair part of the business at all. After my car was done. I was happy with the service. Within a few weeks the check engine light went back on. I was told I'd be charged 80-160 just to look at it.... Again. Chances are it's not related to what they initially worked on. This is why I don't trust shops. They didn't seem too concerned after they just worked on my truck for almost 2 weeks. The bill says over 4700 and they don't even have the decency to cut me a break on taking a look at my vehicle when it could be an easy fix potentially. That's not good customer service. The best experience I've ever had with a mechanic shop. My check engine light had been on for a while and I tried the normal things like gas cap and oil changed. Even took it to a different shop earlier in the week for them to scan it. Didn't have time to leave it and I told them I would be back but could tell they were annoyed so I wasn't going to bring it back there. When I called to set appointment at Bell Road Automotive, which I found on yelp. Randy was super nice. When I took it into the shop, Randy again, was super nice and understanding. I appreciated the fact that he knows car troubles suck and are an expense that no one wants. They took my car in and the sweet lady gave my daughter and I a ride home. (With the car seat). My house was a little farther than I thought but she did not complain. When I got a call a few hours later, Randy went over the outcome. He said " we have to try this first and cross your fingers that hopefully it works". If not, it could get very expensive. I agreed. A couple hours after that he called and said good news, it worked! Your car is ready. The best part about that is that he sounded so excited on the phone that it worked and I wasn't going to have to pay for anything else. I really appreciated that!! The lady came all the way back to our house to pick us up to take us back to the shop. When we got there Randy gave me the bill. Are you serious? It was less than he quoted me over the phone just a few hours earlier!! I usually feel screwed after leaving a mechanic. What really sucks is in terms of this business I think if they had better customer service they could be way better. I've taken my car a few times and for one they never had once called me to let me know when my car was done so I was always sitting around waiting all day and then when I call they're like " oh yeah it's been done". Well I brought my car in this time and it was supposed to be a one day thing. They got the wrong part and kept telling me " it should be here tonight" then another day would go by, the part wasn't there and no one would contact me to even let me know if it was there and it was done or if it never showed? Which apparently the guy working there told the owner he told me Monday which was also a lie cause if someone had told me that I wouldn't have been freaking out every day. It took me like 5 days to get my car back meanwhile I was having an anxiety attack every day wondering when tf I was going to actually get my car back, what was going on with it and also struggling to find a ride to work every single day since my work is 30 minutes from my house which I told him but they didn't seem to care. And the owner was out of town the whole time this was happening apparently (even when he is in town tho they still never call me to communicate things, which maybe is kind of important when you're running a business? Lmao) and I spoke to him and he apologized but I figured maybe they'd at least do something to make things right but they literally did nothing and still just overcharged me almost $800 for a new thermostat. Oh where do I start? I was driving up to Phoenix from Tucson (job relocation) and as soon as I hit the 17 my car started making an awful noise. Well I safely got to my destination and deemed my car unsafe to drive. I immediately yelped a close-by repair shop and found this gem. I called and spoke with the owner's wife (her name escapes me) and she was ever so welcoming and friendly. It was a Friday afternoon and she still told me I was welcome to bring my car on in to get it checked out. I had my car towed in and in about 3 hours, she called me back to let me know what was going on with my car. I am a mechanically oriented kinda girl, but I appreciated her efforts in breaking everything down into layman's terms for me, just in case I wasn't so fortunate to be as mechanically inclined as I am. Before they did anything, they let me know exactly what was wrong, what caused it, and how they were going to replace it. She was upfront and honest. One of the things I appreciated was that for one of my problems- my cat converter had snapped, they were offering to weld it together to save me money as opposed to just buying a new part. This spoke volumes about the lengths they go to watch out for their customer. I'm not going to sugar coat anything and say that the work I needed done was cheap... because if it's something good, it's not gonna be cheap.. and if it's cheap, it ain't good. However, I went ahead and gave them the OK for the work. They quoted me a time frame for the car and met that commitment 100% with no issues. Another thing I appreciated was when I went in to pick up my car, I wasn't lectured on what I will "need" to do to my car in the future. It was in and out, and Andy honestly told me his opinion and that other than the repairs he fixed, there was nothing else wrong with the car. Although my start to my move into the Phoenix area was a bumpy one, I thank Andy and his wife for providing me the utmost courtesy and making this as easy as possible for me. I am glad to say that I Have found my "go to" mechanic in a new city - something that is otherwise very hard to find. 5 stars for Bell Road Automotive. Hopefully I will be seeing them later rather than sooner, but I know they will take good honest care of me each time. read more

I had very good experiences every time I took a car here, back during a yearlong stay in Phoenix for work. The mechanic/owner of this small shop is one of the best I've found in Phoenix. He was honest, the work was done quickly, his charges were reasonable, and I've never had a problem with any of the labor or parts he used. I had him fix belts, seals, radiators, you name it, as my car needed quite a few repairs (it was a used fixer-upper). It's a shame that I no longer live anywhere near this place, or I would definitely use it for any future car issues. Literally the only thing I did was drive the car there.. 2ND. There was no talk about the possible cost of said repair. 3 . At no time did MATT start yelling, or act "belligerent" he simply had the facts and she (owner) did not know how exactly to respond.. 4th . 5th. The husband wouldn't even come out and defend his "costs" he claimed.. So as a single mom who is naive to car maitenece or the costs , I'm concerned that I would have paid that not thinking twice. I'm sticking with Andre and his wife at Bell Auto for all my repairs moving forward. The guy is honest and upfront and you can tell right away he is genuine. There are a lot of places you can take your car where you'll find an owner who is in business for 1 reason. To make as much money as possible from helpless and unaware car owners. Andre is in business to create mutually beneficial experiences out of unfortunate situations. I plan on replacing my car in January - it's a janky piece of metal on mismatched tire rims. There's a lot of work that needs to be done to it but I told him I only need it to get me through until January. There was one problem that was making the car un-drivable. He quoted that single repair and after I asked if he thought anything further needed to be done to get me through December, he didn't push to up sell other repairs that probably should be done in any other situation. He also warned me that there was a chance for further damage if he replaced the radiator hose and if that occurred, I'd have to put more money into the car to make it last. He assured me he'd be careful but promised me nothing and again, didn't pressure me to move forward with the repair. He called back a couple days later and informed me that he was able to do the repair without damaging the rotting piece that he was concerned about. When it was all said and done the repair cost me $200 and the car has been running perfectly since. I can't say for sure that there isn't another car mechanic would've have approached it the way he did, but I'm no longer taking the chance on anyone else. It's nice to officially have a car mechanic who has my best interest in mind. Thank you Andre! Oh! And his wife is amazing. My 1988 Toyota Corolla recently failed emissions and I was put into the " Voluntary Vehicle Repair Program " to get my car fixed. So I took my car to Bell Road Automotive for the necessary repairs. That same day I received a quote to fix of $1,763.00 and I was told I need to have the carburetor rebuilt, a tune-up and a oil change. I was shocked by the very high price and when I asked if I could get the estimate in writing so I could see the cost breakdown the technician refused. I could not understand how they came to nearly $1,800.00 for the 3 services they recommended. So they wanted $900 from me and another $900 from the state. It's a total double - dipping scam. Plus the fact that they refused to put anything in writing to show how those 3 services equal $1,763.00 is a HUGE red flag. I had my own mechanic work on the carburetor after I failed the 1st time and he changed the oil then. So I currently have less that 10 miles on the new oil change. The carburetor was rebuilt less that 3 years ago and I have a new distributor, cap, wires and spark plugs all done 6 months ago. I kept all the receipts. So, I do not believe the technician even pulled the dipstick on the car, because if he had, he would have seen the oil was clear, the carburetor was clean and the spark plugs were new. The whole experience was repulsive as if they thought I knew nothing about car repairs and how much they should cost. It is a 1988 Toyota !!! A brand new carburetor cost $300. to rebuild the one I have cost half that amount. A oil change cost $40. and a tune-up, another $300. these are all " high end " ballpark estimates that do not even total $900 when you add the cost of labor. But since the maximum paid by the State of Arizona is $900. they come up with this outrageous total to over inflate the price x 2 to take advantage of both the customer and the state program designed to help people to double their revenue. Steer clear of this place. Unless you like over paying and being scammed. I reported this incident to the officials at the VVRP, the state's attorney generals office and the better business bureau. They are NOT accredited with the BBB. Steer clear, buyer beware or at least get a kiss before they f**k you. You WILL pay more, much, much more. read more

Wish I could give them zero stars. Went in to get my emissions checked as there was a minor leak. Guy quoted me $180 for the EVAP test alone, which was just a smoke test and doesn't involve that much labor and time... I get quoted $997 to fix a charcoal canister and the gas cap. A job that should be MAXIMUM $700 if that. I tell them to hold off on even touching my car as I'm a college student and a teenage girl so I know how mechanics are... I then get a call the next day, the day I was going to pick up my car and bring it to another shop, that the work was done. I correct the man I talked to named Lee and he says their service operator Andy screwed something up and my car got the full parts. He takes out the new parts and puts back in my old. I go pick up my car, and magically $180 turns into $220. I correct the man at the desk and this character "Andy" who I'm not sure if he's the shop ghost they blame for their mistakes or a real person.. gets blamed for this mistake. I say I was originally quoted for $180 and one guy says "Alright just charge her for $180"... The "shop minimum" apparently changes through calling out their bs.. Crazy how that works... I pay the $180 because I'm obviously not going to win this fight as a young girl. I get in my car and begin to drive away, I look in my back seat and see a black grease stain in my cloth seats the size of my hand. I'm now boiling at this point. So thank you to this shop for charging me $180 for literally nothing. I hope the "labor" y'all endured in checking the canister leak by moving the seat back didn't break your nail.
