REASON FOR BRINGING THE CAR IN: Check engine light was on. CONCLUSION: I cannot recommend Curt's Auto Repair for the following reasons: HIGH PRICES. HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR WITH THEM FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE THEY GOT AROUND TO CHECKING IT OUT. CHARGED $145 FOR THE ESTIMATE (which took 2 days & was very difficult to understand due to the language & tiny font). AND THE CAR RETURNED TO US WITH A BROKEN DOOR. I still can't figure out why Curt's Auto never reported the broken door to me after they ran a "curtesy" maintenance & safety check on the car. They pointed out that the car should have a new radiator hose, new spark plugs, etc., but they said NOTHING about the broken door (which is a huge safety issue, because you couldn't get out of the car unless lowering the driver's side window). REASONS: My wife & I dropped off her car Monday afternoon. We didn't get an estimate until Wednesday afternoon. The estimate was not ready when we picked up the car. They were having lunch, so we waited another 45 min for them to return. Still didn't get a written estimate. It was a verbal estimate which we were charged $145 for. The estimate amounted to $3,500 to fix an oil leak, replace spark plugs, & a radiator hose. After receiving the estimate, I noticed there were shop fees & hazardous waste fees on EVERYTHING!!! They even charged a hazardous waste fee PLUS a shop fee just to replace a plastic dashboard air conditioning vent. Completely Outrageous!!! I just finished reading other YELP Reviews & found other customers that have been gouged by their prices. So, we're not the only ones. Another thing: When we dropped off the car, my wife told Anna (who was, by the way, very pleasant) to make sure that the VIPER remote is used to open the doors. When my wife went to get out of the car after stopping for gas, the door wouldn't open!!! I can't prove that they broke the driver's side car door, but NOBODY INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH IT after doing a safety/maintenance check on the car. FOLLOW-UP: I took the car to Christian Brothers Automotive in Peoria, Az. I chose this place based on what was written in Yelp reviews. They gave me a detailed estimate with pictures in a few hours. The estimate was very straight forward & easy to understand. The broken door cost me $350 to repair. The entire bill was $1,300. My wife & I left Christian Brothers Automotive very satisfied. They fixed the car at a reasonable price in about a day including the estimate and guaranteed their work for 3 years (labor included).

The little things that set them apart!

Like so many people, I was overwhelmed, scared about the cost, and unsure who I could trust. I felt like I was getting the runaround and hearing that my best option was to trade in my vehicle and buy another one. It was an incredibly stressful time. Thankfully, I decided to get a second opinion, and that decision changed everything. From the moment I contacted this shop, I was treated with kindness, patience, and respect. After my vehicle was towed to their shop, they took the time to thoroughly inspect my vehicle, explain exactly what was going on, answer every question I had, and never once made me feel pressured. They focused on helping me understand my options so I could make the best decision for my situation. That kind of honesty is rare. In a world where it's easy to feel vulnerable during a major repair, finding people with integrity is priceless. They earned my trust through their transparency, professionalism, and genuine care--not through sales tactics. One of the biggest lessons I learned through this experience is this: always get a second opinion before making a major financial decision about your vehicle. Every transmission and every vehicle is different, especially high-mileage ones. Before agreeing to a service your transmission or deciding to replace your car, take the time to have it evaluated by a reputable transmission specialist at Ken's. If you're searching for an honest transmission shop in Phoenix, I wholeheartedly recommend coming here first. Businesses built on integrity deserve to be recommended, and this is one of them. Thank you for treating me like a person instead of just another customer. You turned one of the most stressful experiences I've had into one that restored my faith that honest businesses still exist. I will gladly recommend you to my family, friends, and anyone looking for a transmission shop they can truly trust.

The mechanic that said it was a transmission problem. This business say it was not. A true honest business owner who has a Veteran daughter. Without indicating there was ANY cost involved whatsoever, Front Desk Guy sweetly asked "would you like us to give it a once-over?" Which, since I was at that time a regular customer, I THOUGHT that meant just give it a safety-check out of courtesy to a repeat, publicly complimentary, senior-citizen client that they maybe cared for! How wrong I was. After having it several days, they tell me that they can't fix the original problem because they "Couldn't find the part - and wouldn't install an after-market part off of Ebay" (My car is a 1999 w/ low mileage) Then the real Clinker after 3 days: They call and say, "We couldn't fix your problem, but come and get your truck and pay Christian Bro's nearly $200 bucks for a "diagnostic" that I WAS NOT INFORMED UP FRONT would cost anything at all! But also, this 'Diagnostic' informs me that my truck needs OVER $4300 DOLLARS in servicings and repairs - Including NEW BRAKES that, apparently the "Diagnostic expert" wasn't aware had been replaced by them on that very truck a few months earlier! I felt totally taken advantage of and complained to the manager, John, who gave me some "yada yada" and stated that that particular employee working the front desk was fired - However, and this is the whole point of the story - This manager of this multi-million dollar, allegedly 'Christian', gold-mine on the corner of Thunderbird & 75th Ave would NOT refund all, or any part, of this deceitful charge with a humble apology for their unscrupulous employee (note: Failure to disclose a COST right up front is a LIE ) Not only that, but Upsell #1 opened the door for MEGA-UPSELL #2 of $4,319 dollars! I STILL look back at this lengthy report with shock and awe. According to this diagnostic that I didn't ask for, there's no reason, whatsoever, my truck is still able to roll down the street. According to them, practically EVERYTHING on my vehicle is on it's last couple of miles.; Lastly, and final insult to my patronage, my age, my intelligence, nor would Christian Brothers even offer a discount or a half-off on the next visit to them. You know, a way of saying, "We still want your business". I think they saw a senior-woman and saw a dumb sucker ready to be plucked out of the stream of suckers. In that lone experience, I learned Christian Brothers is all about "Show me the $ MONEY $" They are only after the money, and customer retention is completely moot. They could care LESS if you are a returning customer. I am no longer using Christian Brothers for any auto repair needs. If anyone knows of an HONEST, caring, competent auto mechanic around Peoria/Glendale please be so kind as to DM me. I'm shopping for one. **I tried to scan & copy the actual Invoice from this incident, but for some technological mystery beyond me - I couldn't get this file search in Yelp to access where I am sure I put the two files.**

Well, I was right in the middle of a job needing it for a long haul when it began acting up really bad. Especially because I've got a diesel and I know they require a special touch. Well, not only was I expecting the bill to be much higher but I honestly wasn't expecting to get it back until Thursday or even Friday. Turns out it was a sensor for the accelerator and they had it ready for pickup on Monday by 3pm! It drives BETTER than even before the problems began and I now know where to take it for my tune-up and maintenance like oil changes. The company was sending their customer home paying for the Uber ride since the car was staying overnight. The parking lot was full and my passenger was happy with their service. I needed to replace my Wife's car AC cabin fan and radiator fan. I bought the parts at the dealer expecting to do the repair myself. After watching YouTube videos I decided someone with actual skill and experience needed to do the job. I made an appointment through Yelp. The repair took about three hours. I was happy when they called with the request to proceed after testing that they did not try to up sell me on other repairs, just I was right that the fan motors were bad. When I picked up the repaired car, they did have a list of issues and discussed the importance of repairing each. Most were just fine right now but watch for issues in the future. They did say there was a split hose from the engine air filter to the engine which needed replacing sooner than later. Since I do the routine maintenance on my cars at home they suggested buying a new hose and installing it myself. They were happy to do it but said that part was easy to replace. I also appreciate they returned the replaced parts without me asking. First repair and I'm impressed. I posted on an Uber driver facebook group about the company. One driver replied they don't go Cha-Ching when a female walks in. Everything about my first repair was transparent and fully discussed before the repair and when I picked up.

This vehicle has a dual clutch 7 speed transmission. Has 2 actuators that assist with the shifting. 1,3,5,7,and 2,4,6,and reverse. The reverse actuator went bad. I drove my Tucson to 2 transmission shops. Each told me basically the same, but with different price points. I went with Pro Tech, with a price quote on the back of Ray's business card of $1495. Parts, labor, reprogramming the transmission, and tax. This type of transmission is electric so whenever anyone type of work being preformed on the transmission afterwards it has to be reprogramed. After explaining to Ray that was a little pricey. He informs me that he is unable to do so,but that I should go online ,and order the actuator from Ebay. Upon his recommendation I did just that. I sat down in their lobby, got on Ebay. Found the actuator showed it to Ray,whom in turn told me that was it. So I ordered the actuator. A week later it arrives, and I made an appointment with Pro Tech transmissions. That was on a Friday. Drove my Tucson to their Bell rd location. Saturday I get the call from Ray telling me it will cost $1045,and that they had to use another tech to program the transmission. That should of been red flag #1 but I was a trusting fool! I go to Pro Tech, expecting everything would be fixed. I get in and it wouldn't go into reverse, but the check engine light isn't on so that is some sort of progress right? Ray gets in hooks up a code reader tells me it seems fine. Then Ray tells me to drive to the Pro Tech location at 54th ave and Camelback. I'm thinking kool finally getting it fixed! How wrong I was. After about an hour waiting in their lobby, and guy named Mike shows up,starts telling me that they broke what's called a speed sensor. They are going to fix it,and paid for an Uber ride home. 2 days later Mike calls me up,and tells me that they fixed the speed sensor, but they need to install another actuator, and the clutch pack is bad! They want $5,000 to repair it! Huh? I called a tow,and had the Tucson delivered home. The tow driver has to jump start the battery to get it off the flat bed,and again for me to drive it but barely up the driveway. WTF? I drove the Tucson 10 days before to 2 different transmission shops to obtain price quotes for any repairs. And my Tucson not only did not get the proper repairs that I paid for. But it was delivered back to me with a completely dead battery, covered in soot and I am un able to drive it! So again I say here DO NOT GO TO any Pro Tech transmissions locations.

When I picked up my car, the cruise control was no longer working. When I brought this to their attention, I was met with skepticism, as if my concern wasn't valid. That was frustrating, especially since I know my vehicle and how it was operating prior to service. They asked to keep the car for further inspection, which I agreed to. A couple of days later, they informed me the issue had been "fixed." However, when I asked what the problem was, I was told it was the cruise control switch. What raised serious concerns for me was what came next. When I asked for documentation or a repair record, I was told there was none--because the mechanic had paid for the part out of his own pocket. That explanation simply does not sit right. If a repair was performed, there should always be documentation--regardless of who paid for the part. Transparency is basic professionalism. The lack of paperwork, combined with the fact that the system was working before my visit, strongly suggests something happened while the vehicle was in their care. More disappointing than anything was that no one took responsibility, and no apology was offered. Mistakes can happen in any shop--but honesty and accountability matter. Because of this experience, I will not be returning.
