This is a park with walking and biking trails wih ample access to the truckee river. Typically quiet and has enough room to not have to crowd any particular arrea. This is also a quality place to see spring blooms and fall color changes in the area. There is a small parking lot that is pretty safe since there is really no other reason to be in this area unless you are using the park. As far as naming of this park, I believe it was named after Dr. Massoud Dorostkar, an anesthesiologist in Reno who donated the tract of land for use as a park. What I dont know is how to properly prononuce the Persian surname Dorostkar. is it DO-roast-car or duh-RAWST-kahr? Either way this is a great scenic hike and picture worthy site that is a short bike ride from downtown.

There is plenty of sights to see and if you like wildlife watching, this might be a place for you to check out. Also, plenty of sage brush to smell too. Nothing like sage brush smell after a good rain fall. Speaking of which the next time it does rain you should definitely come by here just for that because it is therapeutic and healing. I love it. There is plenty of parking. I have never had an issue finding any parking. It can get a little crazy during spring time because of all the hikers and mountain bikers. But it has never made me think about not going because there wont be parking. There is plenty. There are no restrooms on this side of the trail. So, be aware of that. So during the summer time might not be the best time to come here because this trail is very sun exposed and doesn't have a lot of trees to provide shade, unfortunately. With that said the views here of Reno, Nevada at night is pretty awesome and beautiful because there isn't many trees here. It is a good and bad thing because it is very hot during the summer but I just keep looking at the pros haha. I would definitely recommend going spring time and fall time. Very pretty hike and easy to moderate hiking difficulty. It also depends on your health level and how far to go on the trail. I hope this helps you and thank for reading my review.

The first part of the trail is paved, and borders a neighborhood, but you quickly get on the dirt as the trail winds up into the Mt. Rose Wilderness. It's tree covered along some short switchbacks until the forest ends, revealing a large rocky meadow and the peak. From there the trail winds steeply upward, at times offering numerous options for traversing your way to the top. One thing remains constant throughout this portion, loose rock and gravel. You will slip, so be extra cautious and aware, as well as prepared to adapt along the way up. The peak seems farther than it is, and the incline can appear daunting in places, but it is not as hard as it looks. It's just challenging enough to be enjoyed by all, and it's off leash dog friendly! Top: go early in the AM to catch the sunrise or the evening for the sunset! Since it's exposed, midday would be HOT!

Coming in the Winter is quite a different story as everything is leafless and dry, so I decided to venture out into the canyon. It was a steady incline, but worth the views of downtown and nearby snow-capped mountains. Awesome time! Also worth the mention is The National Monument to the Basque Sheepherder just past the trailhead.

The loop is small enough for even the most out of shape person to go around. Currently the asphalt is unbroken and smooth enough even for someone with a walker. The sad thing about the loop is the dog feces on the side of the trail. Too many rude dog owners are being donkeys and letting their dogs do their business in the brush. The trailhead also has a seasonal toilet as well as a nice covered space for what I assume is for nature talks before organized nature walks. The scenery is not up close but seen from a distance. Seeing the different topography of the area and the relative quiet are the draws for me. We did see a father teaching his daughter how to ride her bike here. The path is nice and wide. This park honestly would be good in any season but the high heat of summer. Parking is plentiful.
