The name is a bit misleading. Yes, they do sell computers and peripherals. However, NYU's…read morebookstore is also at this location. And even calling it a bookstore is misleading, because it also sells NYU shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and other NYU paraphernalia. Regarding computers, I have noticed that the prices are competitive with other retailers, and when I once purchased RAM for a computer, it was actually cheaper. You will probably get better prices online, but if you need something computer-related immediately, you should check this place out. Textbooks, however... Well, as my dad says, "that's how they get ya'!" They are way overpriced at any university. Unfortunately, the Barnes & Noble on 5th Avenue and 17th St., which used to have decent prices on textbooks, is no more. I loved going there as an undergrad and grad student and saving a few bucks. If you are a NYU student, you are probably stuck getting your textbooks here, unless you shop for them on Amazon or something. On the other hand, you can rent textbooks at this bookstore. I have never rented a textbook before, so I can't say anything about it. There is a regular bookstore, and the prices there are decent. They also sell classics at a discount for $3-$6. The clothing section is pretty good, and the prices aren't bad. Depending on what you get, items can vary from $15 (t-shirt) to $70 or so. They used to have a cafe, but unfortunately they closed it down. However, it is a nice place to visit, especially if you want to pick up an NYU shirt.

Yes, YouTube tutorials are one thing but since I'm a hands on learner; sometimes I just can't get it. This 5 star is going to the wonderful Reinaldo! Who saw me looking clueless next to the available graphics cards. Micro center has such a wide variety of everything that it can get overwhelming but he helped me every step of the way and even took a look at the list I made. Constructive criticism may hurt my feelings but his advice wasn't to sway what I wanted but give me more perspective of how it will run in comparison to how it will look. With streaming and my art set up, he knew I'd need a better parts. At this point, I didn't mind paying a bit extra because he EXPLAINED why I would need them instead of just upselling me for the heck of it. 10/10 service and care. Also big 10/10 for micro center getting employees that are knowledgeable and love what they do. Along with having EVERYTHING. (If they don't, the employees can help you find it at a different micro or help you order it to home) Thank you!

Well, I just ended one of the absolute worst shopping experiences of my life. I left this review on…read moretheir other site too. I specifically came here after ordering a Web order of one of the two things they had - and then the following sequence of events happened. 1. My web order was not on the shelf, even though I had a confirmation email, they saw the confirmation email in their system, and then weren't able to find it after 10 minutes of searching. They then told me to go to the floor (no help, no direction on where to go) to go find what they lost 2. I am told to go to a sales representative on the floor. I tell him what I need, knowing that there is still one left in their inventory since I didn't buy them out with my Web order. He searches the generic name of the brother labels i'm looking for (literally "brother's label cartridge"), the results are very long, he doesn't go past the first page, and he tells me that they don't carry that here at all 3. I then show him the page on the website with the right name. He finally looks it up. he tells me it's an aisle seven and tells me to go there. 4. I go to aisle seven I search for another 10 minutes, no help from any staff at this point, and no cartridge to be found - neither the one I ordered online nor the one they had left in inventory. Look, I know mistakes happen, but there was a point of friction on every single step in this process. There was no accountability, no support when things went wrong, and no accommodation once the experience is wrapped up. I've had two negative and two neutral experiences. I've tried. I'm sorry. Never coming back, and I'll let my friends know my experiences when it comes to electronics

It feels a bit like a cousin of B&H with a slightly different personality and focus, but the same strong sense of expertise and professionalism. The store is large but not overwhelming, well-organized, and clearly oriented toward photography and content creation, though it also has dedicated sections for musical instruments and scuba gear that make the place feel unique. The scuba area is a little unexpected at first, but I suppose people who love gadgets and gear often overlap with that world as well. I honestly haven't purchased much here over the years aside from a few items, though I definitely bought a PlayStation controller here during COVID. A lot of the appeal for me was simply walking around, learning about new products, and talking with staff who actually know what they're discussing. You really get the sense that the employees are enthusiasts and specialists, not just salespeople. Their pricing also feels very competitive, with an emphasis on staying current and cutting-edge while still maintaining a "money well spent" mentality around sales and service. The atmosphere is calm and professional, and while the store is smaller than B&H or Abt, it's still an excellent size. If you're downtown or near Union Square, it's also much more convenient than heading all the way to the Penn Station area. Highly recommend for anyone into electronics, photography, audio gear, or just technology in general.

The variety of products and the hands-on setup make it easy to explore everything, especially the Surface line. On two out of my three visits, the representatives were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful with my Surface 7 Laptop. Robert, and on another visit Steven, were exceptional. They took the time to assess my accessibility needs, carefully researched options before making any adjustments, and made sure I fully understood what they were doing and how it would help me. The store itself is sleek and modern, with a fully accessible flat glass automatic door and plenty of turning radius throughout the space. As a wheelchair user, I felt welcomed and comfortable every time I visited. The staff made sure I was supported and satisfied without ever feeling rushed. I didn't explore the second-floor gaming area since I'm not an Xbox gamer, but overall, all three visits were consistently positive. I genuinely enjoyed the level of service--honestly, better than my experiences at the Apple Store. #tysadventures26 #microsoftstoreonfifth #microsoftsurface #nyc

When I got home to Miami and plugged everything in correctly, the dock simply did not work. The Surface charges perfectly when connected directly to the wall -- but the dock itself is dead. Here's the unacceptable part: I was told the only place I can return or resolve this is the same physical store in NYC. No mail return. No remote solution. This is incomprehensible for a company the size of Microsoft. Selling defective hardware and then forcing customers to physically return to the same city is not "customer service" -- it's negligence. If you don't live in New York City or don't plan on returning soon, DO NOT BUY from this store. What should have been a premium experience turned into a complete waste of time and money.
