Wiring harness chewed through by rodents on my 2014 Town & Country. Took in at 7:30 and was repaired by 1:00. I was figuring a new wiring harness would be needed (big expense with labor cost) and be without the vehicle for days, but they were able to repair wiring for a lot less. Rodent prevention treatment was done. Highly recommend having it done, even if you are not having rodent problems currently. read more

This review focuses on the business practices and not the work. One of our family vehicles was brought here to have the brakes looked at and replaced if needed to address "shuttering" that was happening when braking. This was all that was requested by the individual who took the car to this facility. As the day passed, it was communicated to me that during a conversation with the facility they mentioned they replaced the back brakes AND rotors and the shuddering was still there, so they are going to try the front brakes and rotors next. I asked if they authorized rotor replacements as that is quite a bit more expensive than just getting brakes done. They said they did not, they were just told what they did. To help calm them down I let them know that more than likely the rotors did need replaced as the car is very old and the odds are they are the true cause of the "shuttering", however they should have not taken the liberty of doing work that was not requested. They should have called them and gotten verbal confirmation of performing work that was not requested. I took the liberty of calling the facility to get a better understanding of what was going on, as I did not just want to take one side of the story. I did express the concern of performing work not requested but left it at that as I believe that the work did need to be done, but the cost was going to be exponentially more than expected. After everything was said and done the work was done and the shuttering was gone, but a new noise the person was not used to hearing was present and after this sour experience they were really concerned something else was wrong and wanted to have the car checked again. They called this facility and was informed that they could look at it and check, but if nothing was found wrong with the work they would charge $70. This shocked me. I honestly couldn't believe there would be two situations back to back showing extremely bad business practices. Eventually the person got ahold of a different person working there the following day and they had told them that there is a warranty on their work and there would not be a charge for verifying their own work. They took the car in the next day to be checked and the other person that they had told them it would be $70 to get it checked out was clearly not happy about it. I do not enjoy calling out specific people so I have refrained from doing so as best as possible in my review. But the person described as "the wife" in other reviews seems to be the focus of all the issues you will see that were negative about this place. For the sake of the business it would be smart to find a better face to the customers. To anyone and everyone willing to read reviews, please do not ignore the bad reviews. Do not ignore the harsh replies from this place as it another aspect of the bad business practices. Until some staffing changes happen I would avoid and find another place to take your vehicle to. Do your research and avoid the unneeded stresses brought about from bad business practices like what I have described and what others have also experienced. If it wasn't clear, we will not be bringing any of our vehicles back to this place. read more

I was new to town, referred to this place by a coworker. Brought a 2009 Forester I had just bought used in for some work. The first visit here was great. They were nice, accommodating, didn't try to take advantage since I'm a girl. My steering fluid was low (unrelated to what I brought the car in for) and they topped it off for me no charge. Every single visit after that was a nightmare. One time something they fixed went wrong, and even though I could bring the car back and they corrected the error no charge, I could tell they were less than thrilled. THEN came a time when I had an "appointment" to drop off my car in the morning (even though it wasn't going to be worked on at that time). I ended up getting called into work around 4 am prior to the drop off time, and was stuck in surgery without my phone until 9am. Completely forgot about dropping the car off. I got an angry call from the wife who does the paperwork stuff, saying I was supposed to drop off the car. I said I was sorry I completely forgot, got called into work etc. Before I could explain further, she said "Well next time a heads up that you aren't coming would be nice" and she hung up the phone. I went here for a radiator issue (which I had to come back because the day after it was fixed the coolant fluid was entirely gone), steering rack and pinion thing (which ended up leaking crap from the front differential), power steering fluid issue (which I thought was related to the steering rack thing, they put in the wrong fluid). The last time I was in for that power steering issue, I made an appointment with a younger guy and asked if, while my car was here being looked at, they could also change the transmission fluid because it's really hard for me to get to downtown when I don't have a ride and stuff and I have to keep coming back here to drop off the car quite a bit. I arranged for a ride home because they said it would take a few days. An hour after I got home they called and said "ok it's done!" I'm like, wtf?? The husband, I think Russ or something, said they didn't change the transmission fluid because he wasn't sure why I wanted it done, whether it was to fix an issue or routine maintenance. I was so mad, then they charged me to fix whatever had to be replaced. NEVER go here. Check out West Gate Auto Center in West Salem instead. Been going there ever since. Small shop, super friendly and knowledgeable. read more

They are amazing! Amazing customer service. Russ is the McGyver of auto repair. I went to them originally because I got a few quotes for a repair well over 1000 dollars each. He fixed the unit itself for about $350 instead. That was years ago it's still going strong. I drive older cars. (I hate a car payment. ) They have always gotten to my car quickly and fixed it quickly. I trust them completely. Paying for car repairs is not fun but I know I'm getting it done for the minimum reasonable price with generations of experience. They are a personable Mom and Pop shop. Took my car into see why it had the check engine light on, and rather than calling me to tell me what the codes were. I came back to a $260 charge just to change my oil and reset the engine codes. I wouldn't recommend this mechanic if you want transparency through the whole process. A simple call to recommend an oil change would be better received than coming back to a surprise bill. The person who I assume is the owner told me their policy wouldn't change. So I guess their policy is to charge you before explaining the problem. read more

One of our family friends owns an auto-body shop in Salem, and he recommended us to Wayne Parker's for some electric work we needed on our Nissan. (I asked him, since finding trustworthy/competent auto-electric work is very tricky, in any town). He said Parker's is the only place he'd take electrical work. They did a great job on the electric, and communication with the mechanic was very good in the process.... But we also discovered, they do a lot more than just electric work. So we've kept bringing in any bigger jobs I don't have time to do myself (or once I get stumped), to them... Each time we've been satisfied, and felt like they did a competent job at a fair price; with good communication. Most recently, they did the power steering pump on our 2000 Dodge RAM Cummins. But this time, something very very odd was happening with our truck. Power steering and brakes going went out completely, at the same time? Parker's ended up putting in a lot hours, over a week's time of trying to figure out what they heck was wrong. That 2000 Ram has a very odd BrakeBooster + "HydroBoost" system, which has unique problems nobody could imagine until they get dig to find "word on the street" for this year and its problems... Which it appears Parker's did... They fixed it, and I was most impressed that they were willing to keep the cost in the ballpark of their original estimate... Exceptionally stand up service. Russ and Mark have worked on our cars for many years. I really don't trust anyone else to do the work at this point. They are very honest, never performing unnecessary work, and they stand behind their job. We recently moved out of state (Washington), but have brought our car back to them to get some needed repairs done. They are not the cheapest out there, but they are also not the most expensive, and you definitely get good quality for what you pay. read more

The guy was not only a jerk, but an idiot. He reputedly "rebuilt" a motor wiring harness for our car after a fraudulent mechanic set it on fire while listening to my several thousand dollar stereo system while spraying carb cleaner on our hot wiring harnesses. I will post some pics of the burnt wiring that left his establishment. When I told him his work looks like the wiring I did as a child, he said, "You better watch it." OK tough guy. This past fall I came to Parker's with something of a desperate situation. The rear-window defrost button mechanism in my 1995 Escort had broken, and it was difficult if not impossible to find suitable replacement parts from Ford or local suppliers. But they somehow found a way to not only fix the mechanism, but create a whole new switch button, which was actually an improvement on the original! Now that it is wintertime and the frost shows up on my back window almost every day, whenever I flip that new switch on, I am thankful to Parker's for going above and beyond to install it. read more

Took my 2014 Ford Edge in for a noise in the front end when turning the steering wheel. The first attempt to fix it they couldn't find anything wrong but tightened everything and said it was fixed, but I could still hear the noise. A few months later I took the car back in because the check engine light had come on and the engine was having issues starting, also the noise under the hood was getting worse. They discovered the front strut upper mount bracket was worn and causing the noise and the check engine light was due to a transit signal but they recommended several items that should be changed and or cleaned and it would be $250-. I had them take care of the items they recommended and they ordered the bracket for the strut. A week later the check engine light came back on with the same issues as before. I stopped at Autozone and they tested the car for free and informed me that the purge valve was bad and for $32- I could get a new one. I got the valve and within 15 minutes I had it changed and the car has been running great. I told them about this when I took the car into have the bracket changed and they told me that their computer did not show that item was bad but if the light comes back on to bring it in and they would check it for free. After getting the bracket changed I noticed a new noise coming from the front of the car when I hit a bump and when I tried to use the windshield washer it was not working. I looked under the hood to find a puddle of fluid and the line for the washer was not only disconnected but the connector to the spray nozzle was broken. BTW the line runs directly over the upper bolt access for the right strut that they worked on. I'm not going to address this with them because I don't feel that it's worth my time to go in there anymore. I'll go back to Autozone, get the part I need and save myself the pain and suffering of having to take time off work and drive down there. As a former aircraft mechanic for the Navy I can tell you that you are only as good as your work. In my eyes they are not very good at what they do. read more

(Even when we were at the counter paying them.) Went to them for a burned out heater control in a 1993 vehicle because it was the only auto electric shop in Salem. Felt totally slimed. read more
