My car was having issues, chiefly a bad alternator. Valley Specialists got me in ASAP for a diagnosis- which revealed an unfortunate amount more was wrong with it. They worked with me to triage the work that needed done to keep it from ballooning out of hand. When they actually got in to do the work, they found out the faulty alternator was the result of a shoddy job done by the previous owner and was going to require them to drop the engine to remove and place new mounting bolts. I panicked. My estimated repair cost had almost tripled. I scrambled to get the money together because I needed my car and approved the repair. Their mechanic decided to take an extra hour and see if there was any way they could get it done without dropping the engine, and miraculously, he was! It cost an extra hour of labor, but I was relieved beyond measure. Throughout this entire rollercoaster ride, Valley Specialists kept me informed, made me feel my business was important to them, did a fantastic job (ahead of schedule!,)and- I can't stress this enough- was honest through and through. I had already approved the additional $2k of work and would never have known it they'd just charged it anyway. Neither I nor my family will take our cars anywhere else any more. My nightmare started last Fri night (11/12/21) when I stayed overnight in NE Salem at a friend's house and woke up to find my 1992 Acura Integra STOLEN. I was in shock of course, having never had a car stolen before. I got a call from Salem police two days later saying they found the car. It was impounded so we drove up on Monday afternoon and went to rescue it. I couldn't believe how the thieves sought to destroy my well-loved classic car. I couldn't start it and there was TONS of mud inside the car, under the hood, the back area under the hatchback was smashed along w/ a taillight. I knew I was going to pay for someone else's crime, which sickened me. The tow company recommended Valley Specialist so I had the car towed there that afternoon. Very nice staff, the young woman who runs the front office was so kind, love the sweet mascot they have (dog). I was fearing a big mess and big bill. The next morning I got a call from the shop and the first step was replacing the starter. I approved it. About 2 hrs later I found a receipt that I bought a new starter from a local shop for a new starter. I called the local shop and they called Valley Specialists and told them it was under warranty. I got a call from VS about 1 pm stating the car was working and that seemed to be the only problem w/ the car-mechanically speaking. The starter was swapped out for free and the bill was just $132 for the labor! I was thrilled! Without a doubt.....Valley Specialists are top notch and honest! I took in a Honda Accord to have the timing belt and water pump replaced, and asked them to throw the old parts in the trunk. When I got home and inspected the old parts, I found it very difficult to believe that they had been in service on an engine for 10 years. And within a matter of days the bearing in the water pump belt tensioner went out. Altogether a very unsettling experience. I have no proof that I was scammed, and the tensioner failure may have been an improbable coincidence, but I have never returned to this shop. read more

I went in to have a couple bolts fixed and they ended up making it worse for me. They owned up and said it wasn't done right but still expected me to pay to have their mess up fixed. The owner has a terrible attitude and was extremely rude. They will scam you if you are unaware of the mistake they will make on your car. read more

We took our Honda Odyssey to have the AC fixed. We had been quoted more than $1,100 elsewhere. The team at Valley Specialist repaired the AC, and fixed our inoperable sliding side door for under $600. When I asked how they could when other auto repair shops quoted between $1,100 and $1,200 to fix the AC and another $500 to repair the door? They said the other shops quoted to replace the entire AC unit, the simply repairs the damaged part. To add to our pleasure they replaced our old worn Key fob with a brand new one. They were extremely fast, professional and cared more about us, their customer than making money. read more

I took my car to get a diagnosis so I could find out what was wrong and how much to fix. First of all, they were very rude and unfriendly, but I figure they are supposed to be good at working on Honda's, so I looked past that. When I went to pick up the car, I got a $90 bill! They never gave me any indication that they were going to charge me, since I had told them I was intending on bringing it back to them to have it fixed. I was pretty upset and told the guy that he should let people know BEFOREHAND if there is going to be a charge just to look at it! I will not take my car there for them to fix it! read more

Took my vehicle there, took all day and nothing was fixed, in fact the problem was worse. While it was in the shop the center console was broken. They didn't take any responsibility and wanted to charge for me for doing nothing. My biggest problem was that they weren't up front with not fixing it or breaking the console. One star for customer service and skill. We took our Pilot for repairs, they could not fix it. It took 4 trips, they forgot to put on a clamp, and the gasket they replaced developed an oil leak, which they did repair on trip 4. They did not charge for any of this ( only good thing). We have since had the car repaired and the other technician found a random bolt floating around inside the engine compartment, which could have eventually caused damage. The 2nd technician adjusted valve guides and torqued the valve guide, which we were told were ok and 4 lifters were off. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

God, where to begin? I can' t remember the last time I was so disappointed in an auto shop. I dropped my car off on a wednesday morning for a wobbly front end situation. By the end of the day I still hadn't heard from them so I called and the guy tells me they haven't had time to check the front end out but found time to identify an ignition coil problem! SO, by this time I surely am not getting my car back today, so I told them to keep it and check the front end and let me know what's up. Next day no word. I drive to the shop and they didn't even know me! Then they tell me that they still didn't have time to check the front and actually tried to make me feel like it was my fault by saying that I just dropped it off without an appointment and they are really busy etc. No apology, no communication, no work done, just guilt. So, I said, "look, just fix the ignition coil, forget about the front end, and I will be here tomorrow at 3 pm to pick up the car. When I arrived at 3 pm, the ignition coil wasn't done, and the guy behind the counter once again said "well, you just dropped it off, and we're really busy...". So, I said give me my keys, I want out of here. They charged me $90 for a diagnostic and did absolutely nothing on my car for three days! and NEVER EVEN APOLOGIZED!!! I guess they are just too busy for our business!! read more

These guys are a joke. I recently met a interest buyer for a car I was selling for an inspection at their shop, as a mechanic I think everyone buying a used car should get one. I felt confident bringing the vehicle to this shop since they are "specialists" and from my prior training and experience I knew this car was in amazing condition. The vehicle was one owner vehicle and i had every service record since purchased at 14 miles. This included EVERY oil change at 5000 mile or before at Lithia Honda of Salem. After returning an hour and a half later and it still wasn't done, (was told an hour) I waited around for about 30-45 min longer. Finally I go in and the rude technician behind the counter says "wow what a list". He continues to tell me that the compression readings (that were all within 10% and over 150 psi) were all low and "all over the place, which in my experience those readings are pretty good. Then he continues to tell the potential buyers that this was due to not changing the oil enough. Mind you the people were holding the file of all oil changes done before recommendation. Then continues to tell them 2 of the back seat headrests were missing and they would be $500 EACH!! I found them for $30 from eBay new. As he continues his list he tells them the Airbag (SRS) light was on and if that wasn't fixed it could "Murder" someone.... And the rear wiper didn't work and quoted like $400 for air bag and $300 for wiper. I told him it was just a fuse and he told me it was not possible. I went out pulled the 7.5 amp fuse that was linked to both systems and came back and put the blown fuse on the counter.... his response was "so" when I responded well "as a specialist I figured you would know the two systems were linked" and he comes back with "now your insulting us"?. No I just expect to get a fair quality inspection. It was a joke. FYI: the only thing wrong with the suv was a bubble in the tire, which they never found! It was completely obvious while driving. read more

One reason why I'm sad to be leaving the area is loosing my Honda guys. When I first got my Honda every shop was worse than the last. I found Dane and his guys. Chill mechanic guys who knew the vehicle and were reasonable when I was late, ok if I called when in the area for an oil change, and discussed with me ways to make taking care of my car on my own and with them easier. They have a sweet stray cat they have to pet as well as a red head golden retriever hang out with if you like while you wait. I've loved their animals and their care of my car for 8 years and will miss my car care experience with them. read more

Had them repair my Acura less than 2 years ago, they repaired damage to the condenser on the A/C, added refrigerant, at a cost of $413. Less than a year went by, A/C kept getting weaker and weaker. Sold it to my son last fall, and he took it back to them this week. They recharged the A/C with freon, and wanted to charge him $218 for that. Less than 2 Years !!! Hello? Anyway, he kept asking them pointed questions about why the cost was so high, and why was it still leaking if they had supposedly fixed it, etc., etc. They got defensive, but eventually knocked the bill down to $168. Neither I nor my son will ever return the Valley Specialists. Can not recommend them. read more

Had some good experiences here, then they neglected to install a caliper retaining bolt during a rear brake job. Found the problem myself, called the shop and was told I'd have to have it towed at my expense to the shop, so they could replace one stinking bolt. If these guys had any customer service, they would have driven the three miles to my house and fixed it right there in my driveway. Always felt they were a bit standoffish.
