HARK! A TALE OF VALOR, FEASTING, AND GLORY!…read more 'Twas our first journey to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, and from the very moment we crossed the castle gates, we were utterly blown away! How a man can journey from a shopping mall in Baltimore and, mere moments later, find himself standing before a mighty castle, I know not. We were assigned to House Black & White, and naturally, we had but one duty: to stand at the tip of the spear and make our house heard throughout the realm! And by the King's beard, the feast did not disappoint! The dragon was prepared with great skill and was absolutely delicious. Our server, Julian, was a true champion of the realm and absolutely killed it from beginning to end. Then came the tournament... WHAT. A. SHOW. If I had to describe it to a commoner, I would say: WWE + Game of Thrones = MEDIEVAL TIMES. Jousting, sword fighting, horses, knights, drama, action, and enough excitement to keep the entire castle roaring. Our knight fought with honor, integrity, and bravery, and he had House Black & White fired up like we were preparing to storm the gates ourselves! Alas... House Black & White fell short of victory. But our knight fought valiantly, and we made certain the entire castle knew exactly which house stood behind him. We were encouraged to be the loudest house in the castle, and by the end of the night, I believe we gave it our absolute best. I walked through those gates wondering whether the ticket price would truly be worth it. I walked out wondering: "How in the heck do they make a profit putting THIS much into a show?" The actors. The horses. The food. The costumes. The sets. The production. The action. It is absolutely packed with entertainment from start to finish, and it's one hell of a way to spend a couple of hours with family and friends. I went in not knowing what to expect and left already thinking about when we could do it again. In fact... Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, may soon have a visit from House Black & White. If you've never been, GO WATCH THE SHOW! You shall not be disappointed. 10/10. Would feast, cheer, and battle again. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must return to my kingdom and await the next tournament.

I'm glad we picked a weekday to attend. It was less crowded. We were a party of two. The gate opens at 6pm. You are not allowed to enter seating until 6:45. Show started at 7pm. We looked around the gift shop area & decided to buy a drink at the bar. I purchased a hard apple cider drink and I saw a cup with lights that I liked that lite up different colors. Separate price of course. It was so cool. my husband ordered a beer and he ordered a 25 oz mug with the beer it came to $25.00. My souvenir cup with drink included was $18.75. We were in the black and white group. Which was the VIP Queen Royalty. It came with two pictures. A lanyard and of course your crown. It was a good package deal. If you are affiliated with the military. You get a nice discount on the tickets. We arrived so early that we were seated on the first row. So good for that. Now on to the food. Everything was pippin hot. My chicken was seasoned well. Nice and juicy. I enjoyed it. As well as the corn on the cob. Which was very sweet. I enjoyed the bread. Didn't care for the flavor of the tomato soup. I'm picky with that. It gets a little messy eating with your hands. So keep that in mind and I was told you can request utensils. The water and non alcohol refreshments were included. Didn't much care for the desserts. One was a slice of a birthday cake coated with candy and the other was a mini chocolate eclaire. Our sever was super nice. We were seated at table two. I really enjoyed the show. Very entertaining. Definitely glad we finally checked it out.

They don't recommend for kids/teens, because people are joking and talking ish and some of the improv could take a spicy turn at any moment. The chef and the actors walk around to the tables and introduce themselves. People come here to let out a laugh and unwind. The Food: Delicious! The crab cake sandwich was big/fresh all lumps with crispy hot fries that did not disappoint. The package comes with several options, from homestyle meat loaf to Mediterranean salad with chicken stuffed pita that my friend said was really good. You get 2 courses and a non-alcohol beverage. Dessert was good, a dark fudge cake with strawberries and whipped cream, enjoyable. The Drinks: The 2 martini's I had weren't blended well. I would stick with wine or something like a rum & coke. The Storyline: Creative and funny, about a dating show where the two contestants need to stay together for 3 years to get the million-dollar jackpot. Only issue, there's a love triangle. So, you can imagine who all had motives to secure the bag. They bring the audience into the story with question prompts and even had me in the hot seat for questioning by a detective. So hilarious! I hadn't been in a while and was excited to return -- I'd even told my friend, who had never been, that the food was really good. I have Celiac's disease, and on my last visit, there were several gluten-free options clearly marked on the menu, which I really appreciated. I was disappointed to find that was no longer the case. Our waitress kindly suggested salmon, which wasn't listed on the menu, but unfortunately that's not something I enjoy. I ended up with only an $18 iceberg lettuce salad with tomatoes, shaved carrots, and one boiled egg and without the croutons. I had saved my appetite all day for a real meal out, and left the evening still hungry. I sent an email to the theater the next day asking that they consdier adding a gluten-free option or two and having them clearly marked -- both in the venue and on their online menu. I told them that simple additions like baked chicken, roasted potatoes, and green beans would make a world of difference for guests with dietary restrictions. I sent that email on March 14. Today is March 22 and I haven't heard anything back. I saw some upcoming acts that I'd be interested in and I'd love to go to the theater again, but won't until they've added some gluten-free options.

I honestly want to rate it higher but the tickets were approximately $70 per person which is comparable to the other similar options. The food is the serious shortfall. This is the second year in a row it's been disappointing. The ham was like a lunch meat style ham cut into slices. They also had a white fish in a hollandaise type sauce which was okay. The sides were mashed potatoes (no gravy) , buttery carrots, and a broccoli & cheese dish. You also get a small salad and rolls with butter. It isn't a buffet as you are served in a cafeteria type line. They offer seconds if you're so inclined. But honestly it's kind of like hospital food. We had to eat on the way home and that's pretty disappointing considering the cost. It pails in comparison to Toby's or Ditch Apple theatre. There was people all around us mumbling about the food or lack there of including a grandmother who told her 10 year or so grandchild that she'd be taking him to McDonalds afterwards. Finally, a guy at a table close went outside to smoke his weed 4 times during the evening. So the 4 older couples around him had to endure the unpleasant odor. I'm sure it was noticeable to the servers in our section and anyone seated or working from the front door to the back of the venue.

The music venue is located below the Hamilton, a storied dining experience in the 600 block of 14th Street in D.C. Doors would open at 6:30 p.m. for a performance that would begin, right on time, at 8 p.m. I travel alone, and prefer not to join tables, opting instead to sit where single seats are available. The Hamilton - Live offers both: most of the seating is in groups of 4- or 6-seat benches where groups gather, and there are rows of single seats on a slight rise above the forward seating, offering a great view of the stage and the screens above the stage. I arrived around 7 p.m. Within minutes Marie greeted me with a menu and instructions to post a card on a holder at my place, signaling her to stop by to take my order. The menu was eclectic, with sushi, pizza, tacos, salads, wings, cheeseburger sliders, and nachos. There are robust vegetarian and gluten-free selections, and a fully licensed bar. I placed the card in the holder at my seat and Marie returned to take my order: sushi - shrimp tempura ($14), with a can of Nutrl Pineapple ($8) and a double G&T ($23.18). The crowd was gathering, and the attending wait staff were moving with speed, filling orders. My meal arrived in great shape about 15 minutes after I placed the order. Nicely executed sushi! Sound quality in the venue is great, and the restroom was clean and well lit. And as the catalogues of both the Dead and Steely Dan inspire dancing, the dance floor was filled right from the start. The band's vibe was low key and spontaneous, with lots of smiling on the dance floor. Total with a 22% tip was $79 (which included a white Russian nightcap). Reasonable fare for the DMV. Taxi, Uber, and Lyft are readily available from the venue.

After that, I have to say things went off the rails a bit. For a start, this is the first "theatre" that had no stage. Not a small stage, no stage at all. We found ourselves, a group of 30-40 people crammed into a large room on the second floor with barely any room in July with AC so weak it was never below 76F. Then the show began. I was expecting a curtain to rise and a stage to appear, but sadly all the story and acting was done between the tables. I will say the acting ranged from surprisingly good to the obviously inispired acting of the audience members who decided to join in. The story was comedic and easy to follow, with references to Sherlock Holmes and even Indiana Jones. Sadly the heat and the terrible location without a stage made it hard to enjoy when the cast is constantly moving around. If they get a proper venue, I am sure they do wonderful things, but this was more like a test run. That I paid for.

Since they are now doing construction for the new building, I figured this would be one of my last opportunities to see a show in the old theater. It was easy to buy the tickets on Ticketmaster. The shows rotate every couple of months. Right now mean girls is the play for most of the summer. The price includes the play buffet and regular fountain drinks. Any specialty drinks or alcohol alcoholic beverages cost extra. Arrival was easy I didn't have physical tickets, but when I gave my name at the front table, they were easily able to locate my reservation. If you have a small group, you will be seated with the strangers that you can make friends with.. It is a very unique place because all of the staff are also the actors. So you will have to place any orders you want at intermission early because they don't have much time since they have to prepare for the second act. Overall, the show was very entertaining. You can tell there is a need for a new theater due to the age of this one, but it was still quaint. I do recommend that you tip based on the original ticket price and not just on the drinks that you get. Speaking of drinks, the prices are very reasonable. If you get the signature show drink you also get to keep the souvenir cup. For this show, it was a cream sickle that you could either get with alcohol or without. I think it was only 1250 for the cocktail that included the souvenir cup. I think I will try to make one more show this year. I know my dad would probably love it so I plan on bringing him before the summer is done.
