I like that they offer discounts for military. I was so pleasantly surprised when my husband made reservations here for Valentine's Day. I was trying to get a reservation here all through the holidays but it was always sold out. They are under new management and they seem to be very motivated to make this place even better. The staff and the play were amazing! The food was very sub-par. There weren't many options to choose from, especially if you're on a GLP1. The only thing that needs updated is the food. Show was 5 out of 5! Service was great! Very attentive. You need a larger restroom for so many guests to use at intermission. I know space is tight, but much needed! Food needs some help. Frozen veg overcooked, chicken portion was very small and sweet... too many carbs for those on meds. We will come for the show again, but you should consider show without dinner or get better recipes. Grease- Cheeseburgers (and a veg option like a black bean burger) and milkshakes! Came for my birthday dinner with my sister. This is dinner theater tucked in a shopping center in Frederick. Plenty of parking and easy to get in and to your seat. Once seated you are greeted by your server who is in the show and offered salad, rolls and drinks. Soda is extra and no free refills which is completely fine but good to know. I wish they offered a bar menu with the special drinks on paper at the tables. They will call you to the buffet but you can't go up freely they will offer a second round just before showtime. The food isn't very good definitely reheated frozen food. It's not inedible but not great. You can only have one dessert and extras cost a few dollars. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The performance of Anastasia was great, sometimes hard to hear performers but really enjoyed the show.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One thing to note it starts at 6:00 p.m. but the performance starts at 8:00 p.m. Service was fine, not sure I would turn unless the show is something I really want to see. read more

Never disappointed in the stage production. Frozen was incredibly fun. And the entire cast and crew were excellent. Costumes too. Elsa's blue dresses were a big hit with the little attendees. The experience is more that the sum of the parts! The food is OK, and I'm quite sure everyone will find various dishes to their liking from the buffet. Overall, we had a great experience. The theater is in a strip mall with lots of parking. The owner clearly loves and believes in the theater. The service was good and everyone was super nice. Check in was organized and efficient. What a command performance! To celebrate my birthday, my daughters took me to Way off Broadway to see "Diana" the musical and play about Princess Diana's life and legacy as The Princess of Wales, a must see performance! Way off Broadway is a dinner theater and one of Frederick's hidden treasures. The staff and servers/cast, all were excellent! The very unique thing about this dinner theater is the servers are actually the cast members in the performance. At intermission, Queen Elizabeth (portrayed by Anna Phillips-Brown), asked if there was anything she could get me...I was totally flattered! She played her role very well. Lizzie Bartlett, who played Diana also gave an amazing performance. I'll take my hat off to anyone who can speak in a British accent for the entire performance. For a moment, I thought I was in Britain! The food was delicious! You'll definitely leave there feeling full. They serve a three course meal, salad and dinner rolls, your main meal (buffet), and dessert. A beverage of your choice is also available. Way off Broadway is a great way to celebrate any occasion. They offer a variety of performances throughout the year, so there's no need to drive to Rockville or DC when Frederick has its own superstars right here in town. read more

We came to see a friends son perform and had no expectations. We arrived to a box office with an unpleasant lady behind the glass. She seemed angry that we were there. Turns out she was annoyed I had dress shorts on in June on a 98 degree day. Apparently they have a no shorts rule. We were seated at our table and service began. The salad was wilted and had 2 choices for dressing. We were then called to the buffet where there were choices of Chicken Parm, Ham and Talapia. The food was below average. I once went here back in 2017 I think to see one of their plays and when I arrived there with a friend we were treated very rudely by the mean and arrogant b**** in the box office. I don't know what her GD problem was but I'll take a wild guess and say that she was mad that she discovered she had the same hairdresser as Cardi B. She even told us that our clothes wasn't allowed which was jeans and a t shirt. I thought to myself and I should have said it out loud "what do you expect us to wear a clown suit?!" I asked my mom if t shirt and jeans were ok and she said yes. I even told the lady that my mom said jeans and t shirt were ok. Apparently they have some kind of weird "dress code". The tickets we had were technically supposed to be for my mom and one other guest but my mom and her guest couldn't make it due to something that happened unexpectedly. The lady then made an exception for my friend and I. When we got to the table the server lady was nice. I don't remember how good the food was. But no thanks to the mean lady who was grouchy at the box office that killed our vibe of wanting to see a play. So we left a nice tip and paid and left before we could see the play. I'll NEVER EVER go back to that place and NO I DO NOT recommend it to anyone! read more

We attended the Jingle Christmas show. The food selection was good. The food was hot and delicious. The servers/actors were polite and very friendly and respectful. We enjoyed the show especially the focus on the nativity. The size of the theater seems on the small size but adequate. Well done! Fun, family friendly Children's theater, with audience participation encouraged, and characters who are your servers as well. Lunch is kid friendly, and opportunity to meet the characters and take photos after the play. I enjoyed taking my kids there...they're teens now so they're too cool for kid's theater. Producing quality community dinner theater must be very challenging. I'm thankful that Way Off Broadway took on this task, but am left a little disappointed after my first experience. Way Off Broadway is located within a shopping plaza. The theater is basically a large room with a raised stage. Guests are seated in groups (we had to wait a while to be seated) and are served by performers in the show. The tables and chairs are basic for a restaurant, not something that you'd want to sit on for a few hours. The food was served buffet-style, with each table being invited individually. Second plates were discouraged until after the whole audience ate. The food was very basic. I had the lemon chicken (dry), roasted potatoes (plain), and some steamed veggies (mushy). Drinks were served by the wait staff and had an additional fee. Before the show started, we were offered dessert. I got an ice-cream sundae and was dissatisfied with the portion. A small scoop of vanilla ice-cream is not enough for this girl! So, all of this to say, the dining experience was lack-luster. However, dinner is only part of the experience. The show was splendid! We watched Spamalot, which was hilarious and well done. The performers were so talented! The costuming and effects were fair. The performers really worked hard to produce a solid show and wait tables. It was an enjoyable way to spend an evening! We had a great night, but left with some buyers remorse (it cost about $120 for my husband and I after tip). The food and atmosphere was lousy. However, the theater portion was great and I would definitely watch a show here again. I think it's worth trying, but I don't think we will be back for dinner theater unless there are some upgrades in the kitchen! read more

The performance was cute - saw Gilligans Island. Average but cute. Food was absolutely awful.... Absolutely awful. Frozen veggies - and canned veggies. Chicken that was so dry it was inedible. There was a fish dish that was like cardboard and ham that was dry... even the rice was over cooked! How do you ruin rice? The best part of dinner were the rolls and butter. We paid $50 each for three adults and and $40 each for 2 kids (under 12). $230 total and soft drinks were NOT included! $2 each for soda with no refills!! It was a cash bar.... Which is not u usual - and they requested we tip our waiters (remember - it was a buffet) 15% of the total including the price of admission! If the food had been edible, or if drinks were included we might consider returning... But when we were offered dessert I said I'd read on the web site there was an ice cream and topping bar - and the waiter said that comes later. We all selected a dessert thinking it was in addition to the ice cream. When my husband asked if the two kids could have the ice cream (they give you one small scoop in a little dish) we were told we'd have to PAY EXTRA! Do yourself a favor - head to Toby's or Montgomery College dinner theater. The food is (if only marginally ) better, customer service is better and they aren't charging you a fee per ticket (to themselves!!!) This is Frederick md and not the Kennedy Center - our expectations were not high and still we were totally disappointed. read more

I have been to this dinner theater many times. I have recommended it on numerous occasions. I have even taken groups to several of the shows. It is a fun event overall. We took a group last night and were treated very rudely by the woman in the box office. My husband is on crutches with a temporary medical situation. The doctor told him to elevate his foot whenever he is not standing. We were taking a group to the theater and already had tickets so we went. I found an empty chair for him to rest his leg on during the show. The woman from the box office came over and called him out in front of our entire group and all surrounding tables. She said "Get your foot off that chair. People have to sit there." Seriously? It was a pant leg and a new sock - not a bare foot or dirty shoe. We have enjoyed this theater in the past but I do not know if we would return after this humiliating treatment. read more

My wife and I usually go to Toby's in Columbia, but decided to try Way Off Broadway as it is a lot closer. We had never even heard of it and I took her for her birthday. We saw the very last show of "Singing in the Rain". I am going to compare to Toby's so you can see the difference. We paid $94 for 2 tickets for Way Off Broadway, where Toby's is more but so much more worth it. At Toby's for a Saturday show it is $18 more for a couple. The good: Getting to it is very easy and there is more than enough parking. It is basically a store front in a small shopping center. Getting in is easy, and they are organized getting you seated. The staff and actors are very friendly and will try to accommodate you in every way possible. The bad: First, the food is very bland. Unlike Toby's, who has a full salad bar, here you simply get a basic house salad or a Caesar salad. The buffet is very limited and you will need to salt and pepper just about everything for it to even taste good. One of our choices was ham that was pre-sliced just sitting in water. Toby's has someone there hand carving roast beef or ham. The deserts were outstanding, but they also bring it right after you have eaten and are full. Toby's brings it after the first act when they are refilling your coffee. The stage setup is basically what you would expect going to a high school play. It is literally just a standard stage. The sound system seems average at best, and if you are sitting further back, sometimes you can't hear the actors speak when they are playing sound at the same time. The lighting is average at best and really is limited due to the store front setup. At Toby's, there are levels of seating so it is much easier to see the play. The seats surround the stage, which is floor level, so it is basically in the center of a full circle of seating. At Way Off Broadway, it was probably close to 80 degrees with limited air flow. I caught myself starting to doze off 3 times and couldn't wait until intermission to get outside. The actors are clearly a mixture of very good to just simply average, and it showed. The lead actor barely could tap dance and sing for being a lead. All in all, it isn't a "bad" evening if you live in the Frederick area and want to get out. However, you are going to have a much much better time if you actually go to Toby's. read more

I am here from California and was able to celebrate Spring and an early Passover experience at Way off Broadway. The afternoon presentation was good. The actors used the small stage quite well. Scene changes were accomplished seamlessly. I have seen the play so many times I could step in and probably play any part but these actors survived and thrived in their performances. I loved the tailor. Loved the tailor. There was plenty of food on the buffet and service went fast. I am not a big fan of buffets and for whatever reason was surprised to see ham. Funny isn't it-the things that we notice? The show should not be missed. Nice venue. Good parking. What a fun afternoon. read more

I have been to this "Dinner Theater" several times and have seen about 4 or 5 shows here now so this review is not just a one-off review. Have also been to other dinner theaters like Dutch Apple Dinner Theater in Lancaster where the total experience is well worth the drive. I am providing two scores one for Dinner and one for Theater. Combined they make it 3 stars. I will start will Theater (5 stars). While it it not Broadway, as indicated by the name, there is some great talent working here. The actors are your wait staff during dinner and then they perform on stag. They are friendly, work hard and once the lights go down you will be entertained. As for the Dinner (2 stars). The quality of the food is shameful. The best part of the buffet is the bread table...sad but true. The Kiska family should be embarrassed to serve overcooked, dry, muchy, food to their guests. Everytime I have gone to WOB the food was not even lunch cafeteria quality. I doubt they would serve this quality of food at a dinner party held at their house. Raising the level/quailty of cooking and food should be an easy fix...hire someone who can cook. There are plenty of graduates from the FCC culinary school who could do wonders for you. Here's an idea, call FCC and see if you can workout an intern program with the culinary school. A small buffet like this one should be easy to manage and provided its guests a better experience. The majority of reviews complain about the food yet the Kiskas do nothing about it. I know they are proud of the performances they put on. How about a little more pride in the food you serve. So, go for the entertainment but be prepared to be disappointed by the food. read more

This was a very nice outing and something here in the future we would definitely consider doing again! We saw the musical CHICAGO, and most, if not all, productions here listed on the calendar are musicals (not "drama"). The wait-staff was also the cast. Overall, the talent seems to be hardworking, fun-loving, locals that are here for their passion for acting. Most are young (20s) and aspiring. A few seem to be settled in the community based on bio. This is a small "venue" located in an obscure corner of a strip shopping plaza. But, there is no bad seat in the house, just four rows of tables (five if maxed out). Less than 100 capacity. Seating seems based on when your reservation was made. When I called, they said it was half sold out. We had unobstructed view in row 3. Dinner buffet is posted on their web site. Three entrees that evening were lemon-pepper baked fish, roast pork and gravy (delicious!) and chicken with onions and peppers (baked). Also, brown rice, roasted potatoes, green beans, veggie mix (broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots), cinnamon apples. Price of tickets is in the 40s per person, depending on day of week. 15% (suggested) gratuity on total ticket (meal and theater) is suggested bc wait staff is cast and that is their primary income source (tips). Drinks (other than coffee/tea) are extra, but moderately priced. read more

We went to see the Three Little Pigs and Pinkalicious, and had a blast. The shows had a good pace for kids, and the food was kid-friendly. The price is right too. I'd like to see them offer a salad for the moms, and lids for the cups :) Honestly, those are the only recommendations I have. The actors serve you in costume, which the kids LOVE! Way Off Broadway produces outstanding theater productions for a community theater, in this wonderful, family run business. My wife and I have been entertained by more than 60 great shows over the past 15 years. We have enjoyed couples night out, a night out with our teen-aged children, and get-togethers with family and friends. Their Christmas show is a spectacular way to get into the holiday spirit with festive songs set around each year's unique show plots. My parents look forward to joining us for the Christmas show when they visit for the holidays. During the rest of the year, Way Off Broadway presents wonderful musicals with singing talent better than we expected in a community theater. We appreciated the opportunity to introduce our children to quality theater in a family-friendly environment at a reasonable price. The audience arrives between 6:00 and 6:30 for dinner before the 8:00 show. We typically arrive about 6:15 to avoid the line when the doors open and are quickly seated at pre-assigned tables. This leaves plenty of time for a relaxing dinner and drinks before the show. Before we moved to Frederick, my wife and I lived in New York and frequented Times Square. Way Off Broadway has been a welcome venue to continue our theater experience. read more

I attended dinner and a performance of Singin' in the Rain. There was a mix-up with our tickets and it was unclear whose fault it was. Regardless, the management was rude and unsympathetic and offered no solutions. (We had come on Friday and were told that we had tickets for the Saturday performance.) The confusion may have been our fault, but the customer service was ugly. We were told there was no way we could attend that night's performance and dinner, and that no portion of our money could be refunded. It was only because of this that we came back the next night. We returned on Saturday night. Dinner was a served salad plus buffet style hot food. One of our party requested another salad and was told there was no more available. None of the hot food was what I would expect to be served outside a school cafeteria. It all tasted bland, overcooked, and pre-packaged. The desserts were advertised as if they are a local favorite. I chose the peach cobbler and was disappointed. The peaches appeared to be canned and the topping was mushy and bland. As for the performance, the production was amateur. Recorded segments were poorly-timed and difficult to hear. Costumes did not fit properly, either too tight or quite baggy, which distracted from the actors. Two or three of the actors were wonderful. Others had little stage presence and their performance seemed flat. I would not recommend this establishment, although from what we observed many elderly people have loved the place for years. I will not be returning to the Way Off Broadway Dinner Theater. read more

The menu for children are Peanut Butter & Jelly, Hot Dog, Cheese Pizza. What does a child do when they are allergic to peanuts or all nuts? (Do they have a jar of soy butter or cashew butter or nutella? No.) What do they do when they are not eating hot dogs for the known bi products and undesirable ingredients which may have parents only allow children to eat tofu hot dogs? (My daughter's school switched to Tofu hot dogs and taught the children of the chemicals and unwanted body parts such as pig anus that hot dogs are made of to educate them to eat something better quality like a tofu hot dog. And hot dogs have been linked to cause cancer. Which worked and most of her class never want to eat another meat bi product hot dog.) And what about those children who have issues with the cheese on pizza? Ever have those kids who vomit from the chewy cheese? I hope she outgrows this one day. And what about the kids who are allergic to gluten and can't eat the food offered? Well this is the only options and when I asked the owners if they would consider adding a additional healthy option... they said they did not want my child to come to the theater. Wow. I even asked if I could pack from home and purchase a more expensive meal from the adult menu. They reassured this was there menu from 15 years ago. Has any other parent of family member noticed that we learned about foods and have been trying to improve the quality of food we feed our children in the past 15 years? The Doctors tell us this. We as parents avoid fast food and artificial ingredients. I just expected a classy theater to see this need for alternative foods and make moderations for the customer base who cared. Try feeding the adults this kids menu and see if any of them complain of the limited menu. Was I expecting too much to ask that the food the children consume matter to these business owners and that they promote healthy eating? This in itself is very disappointing that a local business can't consider change from a 15 year old menu. I think the owners were so satisfied with there old menu and unless they notice how limited this menu is, they don't see why to improve it. Hope other adults ask them to make moderation for the well being of the children. They have an opportunity to set a standard for healthy eating. I'd rather pay $5-$10 more per child to have a quality menu. read more

Attended the Christmas show this past weekend and left with a luke-warm feeling about the food and show. We have attended previously, but this one left us disappointed. If you expectations include meager offerings and a show that was about an hour too long, then you shouldn't be disappointed. We were greeted rudely by the hostess when we arrived 15 minutes early. Once seated with our large party and after the meal had started the wait staff began harassing a member of the party about removing his cap. The prodding continued throughout our meal until the member decided on his own to leave. I was told that the wearing of caps was prohibited by their dress code, which I was not aware of when we reserved. I was told to check the website which I have done and here in print is the dress code with no mention of caps; DRESS CODE: We do ask that you respect the theatre and the other guests. Business casual is the usual dress of the day. We do not permit jeans, shorts, work out cloths, or flip-flops at Mainstage Performance. WOB reserves the right not to seat any guest who is dressed inappropriately. Let me just mention that the guest was wearing a cap when the party was seated and we were seated without any mention of this. In addition the misspelling of clothes as cloths is also a WOB Production and not the responsibility of this writer. read more

Great acting and singing. The talent is great. We are subscribers so we have been coming for several years. The food isn't fabulous but it usually is decent, but w e don't come for the food, we come for the show! Some of our favorites have been "drowsy chaperone," "phantom of the opera," "les miserables," and "Jekyll and Hyde." The plays themselves are fine...solid community theater level. But the dinner part is absolutely awful. The food is a small steam table of horrible, institution-type food. I guarantee everything is out of a can or a freezer, and tastes as if it's been sitting there for days. Imagine a high school cafeteria, and you get the idea. Then after you've eaten, you have to wait, and wait and wait for the show. It was about 45 minutes from when we finished dessert until the play started. I don't think they really understand the concept of dinner theatre. If you could play $10 to go see the show, I'd recommend this place. But as a dinner theatre, it's an absolute mess. read more

Last evening a group of friends and I had the pleasure of attending Way Off Broadway's production of SISTER ACT directed by Bill Kiska! We were pleasantly greeted by the hostess, promptly seated and tended to by an excellent server who immediately brought us our choice of house or caesar salads. The beverage menu provided a variety of choices all reasonably priced and I elected to order the show's special drink, a "Holy Cow", which was a delicious twist on a White Russian. The buffet had a nice variety of chicken, pork and fish entrees and sides along with your choice of Angelfood cake, Devilsfood cake, Apple pie, and Ice cream. The food this go around was very tasty. The show was outstanding. I was so impressed with the talent and energy this ensemble of performers maintained from the opening number until the finale. The banter between lead character Delores Van Cartier (played by Genevieve Williams) and the Mother Superior (Jessica Billiones) kept the pacing of the show on point. The comedic timing along with Williams' facial expressions had me in stitches. There was great casting choices made with the ensemble of nuns and hoodlums. The use of the stage in designing the sets and lighting was both effective and impressive for such an intimate theater. The cast vocals under the direction of Jordan B. Stocksdale and choreography by Dee Buchanan was wonderful as well. The cast received a well deserved standing ovation at the end of the production. The experience was well worth the price. read more

The dinner theater is a great theater of talented individual. The dinner is terrible. The food is extremely bland, most of it is terribly over cooked. You would expect a lunch lady to poke her head out of the back. Though we have been here at least five times and paid roughly $100.00 with drinks and the tickets the food has always been awful, but we are paying for these talented performers. If we could guaranteed to get a seat for show only that would be great. Maybe, hopefully, they will figure out a good bufette sometime soon. read more

I've been to this dinner theater about five times in the last few years. Let me start with the positives! Every show I've seen here has been great. They have all been musicals. The actors/actresses are so talented, and I am always so impressed with the performances. They never disappoint. Also, the actors are the wait staff! The dinner theater itself is dated. The tables/chairs are old and uncomfortable. The decor is old and drab...dark maroon walls/curtains/wallpaper. My number one complaint about this theater is the temperature. It is so hot in there. My brother and boyfriend were sweating through their shirts. The ice in our drinks was melting so fast the wait staff were coming around with just ice for our drinks! I looked around and saw other people fanning themselves with their programs. During the performance, the actors/actresses had sweat dripping off of them. I don't know if the AC unit is just old or they're too cheap to turn it down, but it's so uncomfortable to watch a play when you're so hot. Second complaint is the food. We paid $45 a ticket. The buffet is just terrible if I can be totally blunt. I would say it's comparable to a school lunch buffet. The food is overcooked and has no taste, to put it simply. The dessert is ok...but by the time I got my one ice cream scoop, it had melted into a puddle in my bowl (see above paragraph about the room temperature.) I really wish there was an option to buy a ticket just to see the play. Let people go somewhere good for dinner, and then enjoy the play! You also arrive at 6pm and the play starts at 8. Two hours. Two hours of sitting in a dimly lit room, eating horrible food, and doing a lot of waiting. Also, water is included but any other drinks are extra, and you also have to tip 15%, not just on your drink bill, but your $45 ticket. So for the price you're paying, I think you should get better quality food. The mac and cheese had zero taste. The tilapia had been broken into crumbles by the time we got in line, the green beans had been sitting there for so long they had turned from a bright green to a dark green, and were so overcooked. The ham was soggy as it was sitting in about 2 inches of juice. I think you get the idea. All in all I'm torn about this place because I love the plays, but everything else needs major improvement. Went to WOB for the first time last night to see Fiddler on the Roof. I will start by saying that as with any local dinner theater local talent is highlighted and combined with a dinner to provide patrons with a relaxing and enjoyable evening. Last night there were about 40 patrons. There are two primary parts to the evening 1. Dinner and 2. The show. Let's start with the first. Dinner: I disagree with comments or thoughts that Dinner Theater is not a dinning destination. The dinner (small buffet) adds an extra $20 plus bar tab per person to the ticket price and as such IS a dinning destination, and must be considered in the overall experience...otherwise it would just be theater. As for WOB, the service was great and very well organized. No crowding at the buffet table, salads and drinks were served in no time. Unfortunately the food itself was mediocre at best and not worth the extra dinner price. Virtually everything was overcooked and either mushy or dried out. The desserts were low budget (possibly generic) store bought cake, pie, and ice cream..your choice of one. The best part of the meal was the salad and coffee. I do have to say the bar prices are very reasonable for this type of venue. Now for the show: Having frequented Dinner Theaters in various towns and cities and having been to large productions in London and other major cities I know that local performances are just that..local. they do not have the same budgets for talent, stage sets, and production support such as sound and lighting. However, the show itself was great. The performers did an excellent job and really delivered an enjoyable performance. The stage props were done very well for a small production. The lighting was also done well but the sound system, or person running it, needs work. All in all, we had an enjoyable evening but once again I must highlight...great performance, great service, but the food was not worthy of the performance. WOB needs to find a better cook or enter into a catering agreement with one of the many restaurants or caterers in the area.
