Toby's is celebrating 45 years and I hope they celebrate many more years. There are not that many places doing dinner theatres anymore. You can arrive as early as 5:30 p.m. even though the website says the doors open at 6:00 p.m. When we arrived at 6:00 p.m. and there were already people seated and in line for the buffet. Once you check in, you will be seated and told to wait for someone to tell you when you can get up for the buffet line. However, you can almost immediately go to the salad bar after placing your drink orders. Only water, tea, and coffee are included. Tea can be unsweetened iced tea. Your table is called based on when you arrive to the theatre. There is a little bit of a wait but not too much. Plenty of options. Veggie options include: white corn, green beans, spinach, potatoes, cole slaw, salad, cheese and crackers. Seafood items include shrimp and fish. Other meat choices include: carved beef, ham, fried chicken, and ribs. Desserts include ice cream sundae, chocolate cake, and cheesecake. The food was typical. The fried chicken wasn't really fried. When I see fried chicken, I think crispy fried skin. The skin was not that. There was definitely plenty of food. I was disappointed that the ice cream came in styrofoam bowls. We had actual dishes and utensils during our entire meal. Styrofoam takes 500 years to decompose. For the entertainment, we watched the Jersey Boys. I was very impressed that they were able to do a production in the middle of the theatre where the buffet line was stationed. Everything was on wheels -- the buffet stations and the props used in the production. Excellent stage hands that seamlessly changed the sets from one scene to the next. Everything was used to immerse you in the production. They made good use of the different levels of the stage such as stairs that led up to a second level at three areas of the room. There were also multiple entrances. It didn't matter where you sat in the theatre, the actors turned to every section during their performance. I have seen Jersey Boys before a the National Theatre in D.C. It was a great production with awesome singing. I didn't get that level here. It felt slow as the show started but it did pick up later. Costumes were very nice. You almost didn't notice that many of the actors played multiple characters. I will say that this was a long night. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. and the show ended at 10:55 p.m. We sat in dining room chairs for 5 hours and those seats were not comfortable. If I come again, I will be bringing a back pillow. Also, note that the noise level is extremely high during dinner. It was very hard to have a conversation without raising one's voice. Parking: They have a good size private lot which is a good when there are events at the Merriwether. Traffic was heavy coming off Rt. 29 due to an event and we were worried about parking but was glad to see that they have their own parking lot.

My wife and I absolutely love Toby's. How fortunate we are to live near one of the few remaining dinner theatres that run musicals instead of some kind of cheesy fixed show. Their talent works hard to wait on tables, as well as performing their hearts out. The talent is excellent and while production values are strong given their resources. The food...well, it's good. The adult drinks are well-mixed and generous. And of course, we enjoy seeing theatre-in-the-round. Being around fellow theatre-goers is fun, too. Thank you for being there.

Jersey Boys was incredible! Broadway quality for the acting and singing. There's so much food. The earlier you get there the earlier you can get called for the buffet. There an once cream buffet and cake as well. Coffee and water are included. Bring cash to tip. The waiters are the actors and they are so nice.

Loved our experience at this dinner theatre! Supposedly this is the only dinner theater left in the DMV area and I can see why! When you arrive, someone escorts you to your table that you are sharing with others. You are invited to the buffet and then share a meal together with your table. Then, the show begins! It was very well executed and I loved being "on the floor" right next to all the activity! The props were solid and the singing was fantastic. It was such a fun night!

I've been here a few times and always had wonderful experiences! I've seen Cats, Pirates of Penzance, Shrek, and most recently, we celebrate our anniversary watching The Chorus Line! Buffet is always served first, which comes with bread, salad, and hot meal options of carved turkey, beef roast, chicken, fish, and vegetables. My favorite is the beef roast, and cheesy spinach casserole. I also like that they have alcohol and mock tails served in a souvenir glass with the play's logo, very fun to collect! The service is amazing! The performers bring out the drinks, and the pre show host recognizes guesses celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. The plays are in the middle of the stage, so there are no bad seats. This is a great place to see a great show and have a nice dinner. Especially for special celebrations. We look forward to come back soon, in March to see The Beauty and the Beast!

I have a serious obsession with Grease! My GGGF and I went to the matinee showing for Grease. Service Our Server/Actor Calvin who also played Kenickie was amazing. He always kept the coffee flowing and the drinks going. He was so polite, kind, and hilarious. It was a joy to have him as our server. Food The Brunch was decent but nothing to want seconds for. The doors opened promptly at 10:30 am, and they immediately started with the salad bar. I would suggest a fruit bar with possible yogurt or granola bar instead. Salad at 10:30 am just seems wayyyyy too early. Ambiance Typical theater setup nothing fancy. But the chairs will hurt your behind from sitting so long. Also, the bathrooms need a MAJOR upgrade. Show Ok so I'm a huge Grease fan and I did hear most of the songs from the movie. Although they were not in order and some of the added scenes and songs were a little confusing, all in all, it was still a great show and the actors did a tremendous job. If you plan to go please tip them well, this is how they make a living and for some of them, this is the only job they have.

Go for the show and forgive the food. I was recently invited to Toby's for their version of Spamalot and loved it! It was campy and irreverent, as any Monty Python-based show should be. For anyone who doesn't know, this musical is adapted from the 1975 film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." There are also songs from Monty Python's other films ("Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" that I remember from "Life of Brian") This show is a silly musical based (very loosely) on the Arthurian legend. We attended the matinee. The acting, sets, and staging (round theater) is wonderful. All of the seating choices seem to have a great view. The staging is such that the actors turn their attention throughout the room during the show. The wait-staff is the actors! Ours was delightful and seemed truly happy to be there (as were we). He made sure that our cups were well managed. I drank coffee and two margaritas (not very strong, but tasty). The show and waitstaff is why Toby's gets 4-stars. Now, to--yikes--the food. Brunch was a buffet. To be honest, even before COVID, this gives me pause. People were required to wear not only masks, but gloves too. That allayed my fears and I tried to navigate through the options. The brunch food was not great (less than mediocre). Most of the food was breakfast related: french toast, etc. For a gluten-free person, it had very limited options. I ate the "cafeteria" scrambled eggs that looked like a brick in a big tin (surprisingly etable), potatoes, and bacon. There was also fish and some other lunch fare. I had some roast beef (with horseradish sauce). The bacon and eggs were fine, but the roast beef (even with the sauce) had no flavor. The potatoes were a stand out. They should keep the potatoes on their menu. I felt safe there. The seating allowed for social distancing. Masks are required outside of sitting at your table during the meal only. I will go back. The next show that caught my eye is Sponge Bob (the musical).

We looked around the gift shop area & decided to buy a drink at the bar. I purchased a hard apple cider drink and I saw a cup with lights that I liked that lite up different colors. Didn't care for the flavor of the tomato soup. I'm picky with that. It gets a little messy eating with your hands. So keep that in mind and I was told you can request utensils. The water and non alcohol refreshments were included. Didn't much care for the desserts. One was a slice of a birthday cake coated with candy and the other was a mini chocolate eclaire. I honestly want to rate it higher but the tickets were approximately $70 per person which is comparable to the other similar options. The food is the serious shortfall. This is the second year in a row it's been disappointing. The ham was like a lunch meat style ham cut into slices. They also had a white fish in a hollandaise type sauce which was okay. The sides were mashed potatoes (no gravy) , buttery carrots, and a broccoli & cheese dish. You also get a small salad and rolls with butter. It isn't a buffet as you are served in a cafeteria type line. They offer seconds if you're so inclined. But honestly it's kind of like hospital food. We had to eat on the way home and that's pretty disappointing considering the cost. It pails in comparison to Toby's or Ditch Apple theatre. There was people all around us mumbling about the food or lack there of including a grandmother who told her 10 year or so grandchild that she'd be taking him to McDonalds afterwards. Finally, a guy at a table close went outside to smoke his weed 4 times during the evening. So the 4 older couples around him had to endure the unpleasant odor. I'm sure it was noticeable to the servers in our section and anyone seated or working from the front door to the back of the venue.

Continuing my alphabet series…read moreonto the letter I representing prior to 2018 is I is for iPic theater and also the 2014 movie, Interstellar! I've been here twice in November 2014 & November 2023. Funny both times were in the month of November, but 9 years apart. November 2014: I was living in northern VA, and I received free tickets to see Interstellar as this theater had recently opened. My impression in 2014 and still holds true today is that this is the nicest theater I had ever been to. Some theaters have reclining seats, but these are large and you get a blanket if you want. There were some good food options, granted overpriced for what you got, were tasty. I brought a date for those movie showing and paid for our food. I got a burger, and she got a flatbread pizza. Burger was good as I recall. 2017 to coming back here in November 2023: I moved to Maryland in 2017, Wheaton 2017-2020, so wasn't too far from Pike & Rose and did go there sometimes. However, in 2018 I became an AMC A-Lister, so I just go there unless there's a free advanced screening or specific movie I really want to see at Egyptian Cinemark or a Regal that isn't at AMC. In November 2023, iPic held an advanced screening of the Netflix movie, Leave the World Behind. I had 4 tickets, invited several friends. There was a woman I liked who had agreed to go initially, but had an issue with someone else who had promptly responded she would go. Incidentally, the woman who I liked became my girlfriend in February 2024, so it worked out well. Shortly after that she buried the hatchet with that mutual friend. As for the movie screening, while not as great as Interstellar, it was still the same positive experience I remembered from 9 years earlier. Things were chaotic as we were trying to get the food & drink, which was included, but we had to check on the food during the middle of the movie, and I missed the very beginning of the movie as a lot of people did. There was quite a bit of time beforehand, but even with the delays occurring, they should've started the movie late unless there was some late movie showing in that particular theater at 10 PM or something. In summary, this is a very nice theater in spite of a couple of flaws.

It has really gone down hill. There was nothing good or redeeming about our experience. Let's start with the ludicrous check in process. You pre-purchase your tickets and they give you an Apple wallet pass. When you get off the elevator there is a clear path to the theaters with a person standing at a podium. However, don't you dare go directly to this person. You need to go check in at the ticket booth so they can give you paper tickets. Then you go back to the podium to show them the paper tickets and go to your theater. It wouldn't be that annoying if every single person didn't do this unnecessary round trip. I watched six families lug their children up and back while standing there. Put up a sign. State this absurd process in the email. Next the service. They include a required 18% gratuity on the bill. For good reason. They would have gotten none if it was discretionary. We were in our seats fifteen minutes before the movie start. Nobody took our order until fifteen minutes into the movie. Food didn't show up until two thirds of the way through the movie. Why spend several hundred dollars to take your kids to dinner and a movie if you don't get dinner and a movie. The people two seats over never got their food. The check never came. I had to ask for the check after the lights were on and credits over. Super annoying when sitting there with three kids under 7. Now the food, barely edible is being generous. It tasted like every item had been submerged in a bucket of grease before, during, and after cooking. I now know what the penguins at an oil spill feel like. Horrible. For the price point service should be good, food decent, and experience frictionless. Ipic bethesda failed in all respects.
