Where do I begin? Wave Street Cafe is always such a treat. I can't believe I haven't written a review yet. I enjoyed THE BEST OMELETTE of my life yesterday, the garden omelette with goat cheese is next level. Bursting with mushrooms, spinach, carmelized onions and the creamiest goat cheese- it's an umami delight. Their breakfast potatoes are also the best I've had- We also enjoyed their pancakes, we tried cinnamon bun and buttermilk, they're delicious and worth a visit to try these epic pancakes. They also have an extensive coffee menu, we tried their mocha and pistachio rose latte- both amazing. Came on a Tuesday afternoon and the patio was already looking busy. My boyfriend and I sat outside as we had our dog along. Took a few minutes after looking at the menu for a server to greet us and take our drink orders. I got a pistachio rose latte and it was super delish. Love the taste and very unique. For appetizers, we tried the calamari which was great. Along with the Alaskan Cod fish and chips I ordered, I really liked how both of them were prepared and fried. They were nicely fluffy and not overly fried. Also loved the touch with the cranberry cold slaw on the side. The tartar and cocktail sauce were great as well. Stopped by for both breakfast and lunch - both were good but I think breakfast is the better of the two meals here. I recommend stopping by early to avoid the lines. For breakfast, I had the Denver omelet which comes with toast and potatoes but I upgraded to a fruit bowl which made the meal lighter. The omelet was filling and had big chunks of ham. My husband had the corned beef hash which was homemade corned beef chunks and served with poached eggs. For lunch, I had the halibut fish and chips - the fish didn't dry out despite the thicker batter (wish it was a little less breaded) and the portion was huge; I honestly could have shared it with my husband. My husband and I ate at the Wave Street Cafe twice during our trip to Monterey. Both times we sat inside the restaurant as the patio seating had a longer wait time. Inside the restaurant was comfortable, although it was busy. We enjoyed the food and the service was attentive. We had the breakfast quesadilla, breakfast burrito, the BLT sandwich, and the 2 egg breakfast. Local favorite cafe- recommended by a family member for their Monkey Do pancakes. Cute cafe with ocean view, very quaint yet clean. The staff was very friendly . We had a large party and they informed us that we would be seated when all had arrived. We arrived just before opening , we heard it gets crowded. Parking was easy next to the restaurant. Thoughtful service and a wide breakfast menu with Chilaquiles, Huevos Rancheros, a breakfast burrito, and a Chorizo Scramble, which I went for. I loved it. A great spiced egg, black bean, and chorizo base topped with the exact right amount of sour cream, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The Wave Street Potatoes were great. And! And! I am glad I used Yelp to find this place that is not located directly on the main street. Most of the places I saw located on Cannery Row had low customer ratings. It is a small place and might be a bit hard to locate, but definitely worth the search and possible wait. We had a nice table outside. Service was good and food was great. I glanced back at the menu to make sure I didn't make a mistake, but there was no bacon listed in the description. We flagged down the wait staff and asked if there was supposed to be bacon he quickly took away my plate and remade it, although by then my husband had finished his meal. We went on Monday and were seated immediately inside, we were the only people inside because most people were waiting for a table outside. This place is difficult to find if you're not local, if you find parking on Cannery Row and find the blue gate, walk down the brick steps, the restaurant will be on your right hand side past the alleyway. We ordered the hot mocha and a hot chocolate. The mocha had a strong coffee taste, so if you're into that make sure to grab the yummy mocha! Hot chocolate was delicious and had a fun touch with the sprinkles! We didn't get a photo of the food but I recommend the cinnamon roll pancakes, the bacon avacado omelette, and sausage over the bacon. The server was extremely sweet and was a delight to be around. Even though we got there at that time, it took over 30+ minutes to get our food. We had to rush and ask for boxes and the check right away because we were trying to run to our next set of plans for the day. They did apologize and say they ran behind. Understandable-they are super busy and popular. Everything we ordered was excellent! We ordered the pistachio latte, chai latte, and a hot chocolate. Food wise we ordered the fruity pebble waffle for the kids, a side of bacon for the kids, and a side of fruit for the kids. We also ordered the breakfast quesadilla and the monkey do pancakes. You have to come in person and put your name down, then they will call you when your table is almost ready. It can be busy in the mornings on weekends as we waited 45-60 min for a table of 5. We tried the enchiladas, Jack's Burger, the Wave Street Combo (classic eggs, potatoes, plus pancakes or French toast), and a panini--everything was fresh and tasty! I will say their drinks were quite expensive across the board for coffee or juice ($7ish for a glass). If you sit outside, you get a nice view of the beach and the sound of the waves. Inside is small but cozy, with a laid-back vibe that makes you want to sip coffee a little longer. Service was friendly and best they can do for being such a busy spot in Monterey. We decided to try this place recommended by a local person and weren't disappointed. The food and service were amazing. I wanted an omelette but I also wanted the chorizo scramble. I asked our server Kayla if the kitchen would instead of a scramble just cook the eggs as an omelet and stuff the chorizo and peppers in it. They were able to do that so that made me a happy customer! My wife had the same but opted to just have it made as a scramble just as the menu described. The food was delicious. For lunch today, I had their pistachio and rose latte (decaf) which was outstanding and I don't even typically like coffee (I know, crazy). The coffee was so smooth and the pistachio and rose flavors were light and delicious. To eat, we had their fiesta taco salad with an addition of roasted vegetables and their tuna melt (on gluten free bread) with a side salad. Although it took a while for the food to arrive, the quay and flavor more than made up for the wait. Also, they were busy as usual so it was totally understandable. The salad was very flavorful and I'm so glad opted for adding the roasted vegetables which were squash, bell pepper, and portobello mushroom. The taco salad came in a taco shell bowl and was well fried and tasty. The tuna melt was great and their gluten free bread was much appreciated and pretty good as well. The side salad was bigger than I expected for a side salad and had tomato and cucumber that looked bright and fresh. Everything was great including the service! We ordered; Huevos Rancheros, Fruity Pebble Waffles, Applewood Bacon and Arugula Benedict, Breakfast Wuesadilla, Rose Pistachio Latte (made with Pistachio Milk) , and a few other items. We had time for one stop in Monterey and decided to go to Wave street. Got the fruity pebble pancakes and they were super yummy. Slightly crunchy exterior and soft interior. We were seated outside but they did have lamps to keep us warm. I also got the white chocolate mocha and the portion size was very generous. It was heavy on the sweeter side, so be sure to ask for less sweet if that's what you prefer. Our table was uneven so it was shaky when you put your elbows on it. Our waiter only came once to check on us, but we didn't get a refill on our waters. I had to drink my daughter's glass, lol. A couple of girlfriends and I took a birthday trip to Monterey last week and decided to try Wave Street Café after seeing it recommended as a great brunch spot. We were seated fairly quickly, and the outdoor patio was lovely--plus the heaters were a great touch on a chilly morning. The food came out pretty quickly and was tasty, and our server started off kind. Unfortunately, the service really dropped off after that. We waited nearly 45 minutes before our server checked back in with us. In the meantime, we needed silverware, napkins, and more ranch--but eventually had to get up and ask someone inside for help. It was disappointing because the atmosphere and food were solid, but the lack of attentiveness made the experience less enjoyable.
