Not what it was before covid. We go here for the comfort food and PIE! The food is all great. But because they can't get enough staff, their pie selection has suffered. They only have about 30%of the pies on the menu. Understandable, but disappointing. read more

Its been a few years since we stopped here and we will be back soon. We had the walleye dinner $12.95, 4 big pieces of walleye with 2 sides , roll&butter. This was the best walleye we've had since I used to catch it myself at lake erie. The waitress was awesome and took really good care of us. Great little place. Not sure of the other reviews and personally several should have their review card taken away. Stopped in on a lazy Sunday afternoon and ordered the country fried steak and Philly either fried. Food came out quick, service was great (Early Birds good), and both items were very good. read more

The cod fillets for the Van de Kamp platter is much better baked rather than fried. This restaurant needs to focus on quality and not quantity! Huge menu selections but very less than mediocre food. This restaurant years ago used to be great. The pies are no longer home made. Ive had better pies from a grocery store. Everything is very heavily salted. The cake tastes as if its made from a store bought mix. We had chili served out of a coleslaw dish. No thanks. My family has been coming to Watts since at least the early 1960s. Rarely have we ever had a bad experience here and my wife and I always make sure we tip more than the customary 15%. It is well deserved. I used to be a roast beef/mashed potatoes guy until I discovered their swiss steak. It is simply out of this world and with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Whew, the steak melts in your mouth. The menu is chalk full of selections. As for pie, where do I start? You can get a slice or purchase a whole pie. Waitresses are fantastic and very people-oriented. The only thing I would like to see is for them to stay open on weekday evenings until 8 instead of 7, but that is a very minor concern. There is a reason why this restaurant keeps up a good business. Great customer service and great food! That's a very hard combination to beat. read more

First time was a Sunday, very busy and chaotic. This didn't phase the hosts at all. They seem to have a good knack to handle crowds. Wonderful service-best in a long time, especially with crowds. Great home atmosphere. Homemade pies that must try. Aware of allergies and will take precautions if necessary. They have several pie selections of sugar free (mini pies no sugar added). Mom had cottage cheese and fruit plate. Generally this is made with 1 lettuce leaf in center of plate with the cottage cheese and 2 fruit pieces. Her cottage cheese was surrounded by edible sized lettuce leaves with entire plate having pear slices. Dad had the seafood plate and loved every bite. I had grilled ham and cheese with side salad. Amazingly thick sliced ham and cheese was perfectly melted. Great choice of drinks and she never gave the wrong one; nor did we ever have to wait for more. Daily specials are available and don't seem to be the same as other places in the area. These owners are new in the past several years but the restaurant has been there for generations (built 1912) so any review from yrs ago are null and void in my book. A winner in Utica!! They truly do not make places like this anymore. I believe it is close to 100 years old but the food does not taste that way. The food is always fresh & they have many awesome specials. I had the seafood plate with fries and cole slaw. Shrimp, clams, and cod fish fillet is what consist of the plate. The cole slaw didn't look appetizing, but after tasting it was quite delightful. The seafood was good with a tasty batter. The only downfall was the service. I ordered iced tea and it came in a small 8 oz glass. I never got a refill. The only time I seen my server was when she took my order and when she gave me my check. I tried to call one of the other servers to assist me but I was ignored. This used to be a favorite restaurant of mine, but am seriously rethinking that after my horrible experience there yesterday. Two friends and I went there for lunch, and I ordered a Roast beef and mashed potatoes meal, one of my friends ordered a Roast pork and mashed potatoes meal. Both were covered with gravy when the waitress brought them, and we each began to eat.. only to find out after we had eaten a fair amount of our meal that the waitress had reversed them.. I had the pork (what if I had a religious belief in not eating pork?) and he had my roast beef. I thought it didn't taste quite like I expected, but thought it was just me not remembering how their roast beef tasted. We brought this to the attention of the waitress and she brought the manager. Our third person at the table had finished, and we wanted the manager to just cancel our bill, but he refused... seriously...he wanted to reorder our meal... we needed to leave, did not have time to wait... is that a way to treat customers? Not in my opinion.. Won't be returning there. read more

Food was served after more than an hour. Server apologized. Owner/manager came to our table and blamed the problem on the "waitress," not the kitchen and asked if everything was okay. My friend asked what he was going to do and he said, "You don't want me to fire her, do you?" He offered no other comments. I asked if he was going to comp our meal and his response was that if we wanted our meals comped, the server would pay and he told us to order dessert on her too! Needless to say, the server was in tears....... In the end, we paid our bill, tipped the server 20%, left with dessert to go. Such behavior! Terrible! Food quality: the special was very good (salmon patties), grilled chicken was dry and bland, parmesan cutlet was okay, bead pudding was good, peach pie was not good, carrot cake was a little dry. This used to be one of the better restaurants in the area. As usually happens, proceeding generations of owner/managers have run it into the ground. We stopped in for a quick late-afternoon bite when the place was almost empty; came out 1 1/2 hours later. Won't waste time with details but, although the food was mostly still pretty decent (though not as good as years ago by far), the service went beyond bad. The 2 waitresses, even though they were one short, were in over their competence level; they did on occasion redeem themselves and I cut them some slack as they were polite, especially under the circumstances. What was disturbing - and why I'll never set foot in there again - was the owner's shameful treatment of the workers and political rants in front of the guests. Apparently this poor little rich boy, due to a short-handed week (no surprise why he can't keep help, or maybe just too cheap) actually had to get his hands dirty and help out. And he let everybody know it. That the employees were also working harder and stressed through no fault of their own didn't register with the guy. Also, one has to wonder about the integrity and honesty of a business owner whose political beliefs are based mostly on the bald lies of the far-right media. read more

A friend and I had lunch here yesterday. I ordered the BBQ rib dinner and my friend ordered the pork chop dinner. The ribs were fall of the bone tasty! The BBQ sauce was kind of sweet, but I didn't have to eat it (but I did!). On the plate with the ribs was a small piece of corn on the cob - totally out of season and unexpected but what a delight. Dinner came with 2 sides and I had cole slaw and a cup of broccoli soup. The slaw was excellent (not full of vinegar or onions) and the broccoli soup, I must say, was the best I've ever had! It had big pieces of soft broccoli in it. My friend said the pork chop was moist and tender and she also loved the cole slaw. Our waitress was very soft spoken and pleasant and kept my friend's coffee cup filled and made sure we were satisfied with everything. It was very unfortunate however that we were too stuffed for desert! The displayed the cakes and pies under cover on the counter and they looked wonderful! We will definitely go back. read more
