I've have been hearing about this place for years. My wife and I finally went there, we were going to be in the area anyway so we gave Watt's a try. Unfortunately very disappointed with the food, small portions and rather expensive. Five or six times a year, my wife and I drive over 30 miles from our home in Westerville to eat at Watt's Restaurant. It reminds us of the small Mom & Pop restaurants that we patronized when we were young. As usual, the food was very good, and the large menu provided choices for every taste. On this visit our Waitress (Cathy) made our visit memorable by providing outstanding service. We will request to be seated at one of her tables the next time we find ourselves in Utica. On the way home we talked about going back next month to celebrate our 64th Anniversary. There are many upscale restaurants in Columbus, but they do not have that friendly, "down home personality" that we like. We will be going back to Watt's until the kids take our car keys from us. read more

This restaurant is definitely worth visiting! We were there on a very busy Sunday (Fathers' Day). Our server - Alaina - was right on top of her job! She was very friendly and efficient! The menu has something for everyone with lots of comfort food entrees. My husband ordered pork chops and reports they were delicious and juicy. I had grilled tilapia with garlic lemon pepper which was so good! We both saw items we would like to try, so planning to take another road trip! The gentleman seating people was entertaining. Hubby and I were on a mission to find some peaches! Well, a mission will have to include a new place to eat..Lol.. Sunday afternoon drive in the country and found this little gem in Utica. We first pulled in, nice size parking lot that was completely full..it was 1:30pm. People sitting on benches outside waiting.. There's a few different rooms with some nice comfy booths and tables and chairs. Inside gives you an old diner kind of feel. Nice and clean, cozy too. Looking at the menu, they have a lot of food options. We ordered some mozzarella sticks and ice tea to start. Mozzarella sticks came out nice and crispy with a sweet red sauce which we thought was yummy. I ordered the crispy chicken with 2 sides mashed potatoes and Mac and Cheese. Hubby ordered the Smothered Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. Food came out nice and hot with nice sized portions. My chicken was nice and crispy and good flavor. Sides were also good. Hubby loved the meatloaf. He ate every last bite of his. Lol..I think he could of used a roll to clean up the rest off his plate. We very much enjoyed our lunch. It reminded us of going to Amish country to eat but, we didn't have to go as far..Lol. We were too full to have dessert but I did get a piece of cherry cheesecake for home. I'd never even been to Utica but after going to check out the lack of progress on his hot rod getting painted I said, let's go to wherever makes you happy so Watt's was where he chose. It's an old house so setup of the place is a little wonky but it's very inviting. Almost feels like you've stepped in to the past. The bakery items are the 1st thing that catches your eye; fresh baked loaves of bread, cakes, muffins and my favorite, pies bit fruit and cream based. Off to our table which was by the fireplace. Cozy. Greeted almost immediately and asked us all sorts of questions like we were long lost cousins. Check out the menu and brother orders what is a Thanksgiving dinner; Turkey, mashed potato, dressing and a side salad. I order the chicken fried steak, bean soup along with mac&cheese. Everything arrived quickly, it was still steaming hot no less. The server stated that everything is made there from scratch. Server brought us a couple rolls and they were delicious and brought back memories of holiday dinners at my grandparents. Actually, our meals were just so mouthwatering and the flavors backed up our anticipation. Walking out, I see they have bags of the rolls so I grab some of them and a loaf of bread that is baked by local Amish store Hershberger's. My suggestion would be to go to Watts for lunch, then head over to Hershberger's. This would be a spectacular day trip. This part of Ohio is lovely during the Fall. We arrived late not knowing they closed at 7pm The waitress was so nice she kept Saying don't you rush we have an hour of clean up take your time. She was the sweetest. She said she enjoy the job and people and only works two days a week now being older she said. Wow I would just come back when she is there. She just made our night. But let's get to the food. Stacks of pies line the counter and cooler near the checkout of countless flavors. The black raspberry and coconut cream are top-notch! Their fried walleye dinner is my favorite. The serving is generous and they are lightly breaded. Maple-glazed pork chops are not a menu regular but when it is on the menu, that's my order. The assortment of side dishes is pure comfort food. This is plain comfort food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is homey and clean. Head to Utica and a bit of Ohio countryside for dinner or lunch. Sunday dinner at Grandma's house. Tears the best way to describe Watt's. The menu evokes memories of homemade favorites of years gone by. Meat loaf, chicken livers, chicken and noodles, fried green tomatoes, boiled red skin potatoes all make an appearance on the menu. Everyone at our table ordered the Chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes. The chicken and gravy had a deep, rich flavor of homemade food. The egg noodles were Amish egg noodles. Thin strips, yet a dense texture. If I were to rate the meal on these alone, they get five stars. The potatoes were where the meal stumbled. My guess is that instant potatoes were mixed in with real potatoes to make the mashed potatoes. If you've ever had instant potatoes, you know what I mean. They were rich, creamy, well buttered; but that taste can't be masked. I ordered the house salad. It was fresh iceberg lettuce topped with cucumber slices, tomato bits, and croutons. My wife had the coleslaw. It was sweet, tangy and thin. Both were average fare and what you'd expect from a diner. The ambiance is 1960's from the hard wood tables and chairs, to the golden mirrors and vintage paper on the walls. At the entrance, there is the history of the place dating back 100 years until the family sold it to the current owners. All and all, 5 stars for the chicken noodles, subtract 2 for the potatoes, give 1 back for the ambiance, the stellar service, and hometown feel. read more

The canned green beans were ... well ... canned, and tasted like it. I could have done without them on my shepherd's pie but I didn't know. If I had a complaint is was about the coffee. OK, I'll confess that I'm a "coffee snob" which is what they call me at church because I don't drink the coffee they serve in the fellowship hall. My wife loves the place since it's one of the only places that has ham loaf "not one of my favorites but still good" they have a lot of daily specials I have tried two of them, the meatloaf and beef and noodles both were very good however if you are expecting fresh vegetables then this is not the place for you I had the green beans which were tasty but had that distinct canned taste however on the plus side they do have tons of side dishes to choose from. I just took my mom here for Mother's Day. They opened early today, and were not taking reservations. We got there about 11:15am. Our server's name was Sierra, and she was 100% on top of things! Efficient, friendly, she was a pro. I ordered a raspberry pecan salad minus the chicken. The menu description did not do it justice - it simply said "Iceberg lettuce, raspberries, pecans, chicken," but what arrived was leafy greens, on top of iceberg, with *candied* pecans, and a generous amount of fresh raspberries. The salad really set my expectations high for the rest of the meal. But, as you can see, I have only given two stars. That salad, and Sierra, get both of those stars. The rest of the food gets ZERO stars. I ordered the maple glazed pork chop, with sweet potato fries and fried green tomatoes as my two sides. (Lots of fried things to choose from.) The pork chop was tough, and had not been seared at all. It could very well have been microwaved. It was swimming in a thick, sticky, way-too-sweet "maple" sauce with pieces of bacon floating around in it. Aaaand, it was cold. Just like everything else. The fried green tomatoes were cut too thick, undercooked, with way too much breading, and the breading was tasteless. The tomatoes had clearly not been seasoned before they were breaded, either. There was a little paper cup of some white dip that looked a lot like just plain 'ol mayonnaise. After one bite of the bland, cold tomato, I decided that it didn't matter what was in the cup, there was no way it could help. Sweet potato fries, what could possibly go wrong with that? Well, actually, they would have been fine, if only they weren't ice cold. I just can't figure out how everything, even deep fried potatoes, could get that cold, that quickly, when we got there less than an hour after they opened. read more

This place has been around FOREVER! I was raised in Newark and we'd always go to Watts Sunday after church for lunch. It's generally pretty busy on a Sunday early afternoon (or was at the time). This is a very "diner-esque" type place that has homecooked meals at reasonable prices. Lots of older people come here as the place hasn't changed in 50 years. hehe! Side Note* When I was there this past week, there was a sign posted stating they don't take check cards, only cash and checks. Really?? Who doesn't take check cards? Our waitress was older and was sweet. Not sure her hearing was up to par as she heard wrong on a few things I told her, but it's not a big deal. This is my BIGGEST pet peeve about restaurants (and with this experience). I hate it when the salad is brought out with the meal and not before hand. Salads are meant to be consumed BEFORE the main course (unless you request it to come with the meal). For that, I had to deduct a star. Overall, the quality of the food was really good!
