Fish is good other menu items are questionable! Drinks are from a can, no chips, mac salad is unreal about two tablespoons for 2.25!!

Second visit and review here. Again a good, no frills, cooked to order, basic seafood and sides place. More than adequate parking. No crowd so plenty of seating. You order as you enter from options on the wall then find you seating. Service was accurate, prompt, and courteous . Food came quickly and hot was hot! Restaurant was clean. If you're comfortable with just good food in a laid back, non- glitzy, non-fast food setting, give here a try. Drinks are Coke products in cans, a plus for me. read more

Was in the neighborhood dropping off supplies, so figured since I've had Thimmes bookmarked for years, mind as well grab some lunch. Plenty of parking. Oldies music playing low. Lunch time on a Friday, school wasn't out for summer yet, so other customers were older retired folks. Inside's small but very fitting for Lancaster. Offerings are printed out on regular printer paper and taped on the wall. Everything's basic here, ambience isn't an issue, if you're into that. The older gal running FOH (wife?) was very sweet; guessing perhaps her husband mans the kitchen? I got the fish sandwich with cheese and tartar sauce and a side of shoestring fries. Both came fresh hot out of the fryer. The breading is thin - cornmeal, I'm assuming - didn't overpower the protein, the fish tasted good; no oil taste, a big bonus. Standard fries, very good. I passed on the bun, didn't want to fill up on plain bread. All in all, a very good lunch for cheap - you get what you pay for in the best way possible. read more

Thimmes Fish Shack continues to be my "go to" place for delicious fish sandwiches, best battered deep fried oysters with cocktail sauce (my preferred method of finishing off THE TASTE ) Top it off with crispy French Fries. Friday night of Lent, decided to grab a meal at Thimmes'. Did not disappoint! Walked into order and placing an order was a breeze despite how busy they were. Very friendly staff and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the Deluxe fish sandwich, cole slaw, clam strips, and mozzarella sticks. Cole slaw was creamy but a bit overwhelming in the cabbage taste department. Very plain old school restaurant. Like a lot of the other reviews, I have driven past this place for 12 years and have never visited. Today I decided to change that. The interior is plain with the daily specials posted on the wall. What is unique is the restroom is located on the exterior of the building, like old gas stations used to be. I'm not a Lancaster native, so maybe this location was a gas station in a previous life? My canned coke had a weird flavor to it for some reason. My seafood platter meal was good, but nothing to write home about. Unless someone I'm with wants to eat here, it isn't going to be high on my list to return with the other dining options in the area. read more

I'm used to LJS (Long John Silvers) & Captain D's, for my fast food fish, and then I move to Lancaster, Ohio where there are neither, so I'm on the lookout for a good Fish-Fry, Fast Food Resturant and what do I find but, Thimmes Fish Shack and boy let me tell you, it would be easy for this Resturant to compete with the Bigger Chains. I mean their fish isn't as greasy as the Bigger Chains and their prices are more than competitive. let me suggest if you're out their way you stop by and give them a try, I don't believe you'll be sorry. read more

The place doesn't look like much from the outside, or inside for that matter, but the fish dinner I had was good. For the price I paid, the fish fillet was huge and not greasy. Did I mention that the fish tasted fresh? I ordered the onion rings - again, good portion size. Will I go back the next time I am in Lancaster? You bet! read more

If your looking for a fancy restaurant this isn't it. If your looking for large portions. This isn't it. If your looking for restrooms accessed from inside the restaurant this isn't it. However, the fish sandwich was very good as well as the waffle fries and bean soup. Soup needed salt and pepper but that's available so no biggie. Service was polite and fast. The place is super clean. It's a walk back in time. I eat out alot and I seen someone say something about people not getting out much who had positive reviews here. Well I will say I have been to alot of places. Fancy and not fancy. Local owned and chains. And I was more pleased with the meal at Thimmes than I have been at some big known places. Wish the meal was a tad larger but the prices are reasonable to really we all probably need portions like this. I know it wouldn't hurt me. I was content and that's all I needed to be! There was no one at the restaurant when we got there and was second guessing our decision to eat there. However we were early for lunch. Sadly, the Cod fish was delicious as well as the fries, Oysters. The old man who owns this place will stand outside the door and complain how you have parked. This last time, last week, (2nd time) there was not another customer parked in lot on both sides of restaurant. Danny always gave me wonderful service, but old guy would tear him apart while I ate. Ridiculous. The lot where the stripes are so faded you cannot see. This was the second and last time I will EVER go into his restaurant. Someone needs to learn respect for their customers. Always from now on, Madison's Fish on Madison's Avenue. Last night at 6pm, I drove by Thimmes' and lot was empty. Apparently NOT best fish in town and Parking Patrolman was on duty. After driving past this restaurant for seven years, I finally stopped in. Just over $36 for four fish sandwiches, two with onion rings, a fried combo with onion rings, four fried mushrooms, and three cheese sticks and an order of fried clams. Price is comparable to feeding a family of four at an average fast food restaurant. Kids did not like the fish and did not eat it. Breading is bland and flavorless, no added salt. Ends of the fish filets dry and/or rubbery. Onion rings not bad, they were a bit salty, all of the broken ones(over half) were burned on the ends they became. Mushrooms were bland and soggy as were the majority of the clams. While the clams were gigantic, only two of the seven were thoroughly cooked. Cold slimy clams in a mushy fried breading is not something I enjoy eating. Soda is canned soda, great if your eating lunch on the go, not so good if your dining in and eating the salty onion rings. Unless someone in the family specifically asks for food from Thimmes during Lent, I won't be returning. read more

Late lunch mid week. I always drove past going to the Lancaster BMV and decided to stop. This place is a blast from the past. Old time food, not over-seasoned or over-salted. Excellent classic coleslaw. Clean place. The muzak was endless 80s power ballads that was pretty funny considering I was the only customer there without white hair. Only knock is the portions were smallish. On the 3-piece fish meal the fish planks were the size of large chicken tenders and the waffle fries were 8-10 pieces. Even though I prefer the coleslaw...that portion size for $10 is not swaying me from driving back to Rusty's Wharf in Pataskala for my fish and chips fix. read more
