Luke this place for lunch and a quick bite we usually stop there after a bike ride, but we met friends last night for dinner, and the quality of the food just fell short lovely ambience great service, but I had a dish with the black cod and clams the clams smelled fishy tasted fishy not good should not have been in the dish I believe is a $34 dish. Very disappointing, the pizza is OK I think they could do better on the crust. The toppings are wonderful the crust is flavorless and they overcooked my husband's hamburger and all the extra toppings did not help it either , so just they need to step it up if they want repeat customers , more attention to details and quality read more

Fantastic food in a beautiful space. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I had a tangy blood orange margarita to start with very tasty grilled sardines on toast with greens. Then I popped next door to a great wine store to grab a bottle from the helpful sommelier to enjoy with my main course: freshly-made pasta with Dungeness crab. It was absolutely perfect. The pasta had just the right amount of chew and the crab was wonderful. It's a beautiful space in a grove of trees with lots of free parking. read more

A great place to go and get a glass of wine or cocktail. I wish the food was better. The menu is so bland and unadventurous. I recently went for lunch and had a cup of chicken soup that was so unflavorful and expensive, I thought they made a mistake with the pricing. The pizza was really hard and too many odd toppings that didnt taste great together. There are so many delicious local fresh produce options, I see this as a total missed opportunity for the community. The staff is very nice. I did have a grilled squid salad type thing several months ago that was good. Other than that, everything I have tried isnt worh it. read more

This place is adorable!! I'm a fan of the rustic barn style decor. The service was incredible from the moment we walked through the door until we left. .. the food was delicious but not great. I will try something different on my next visit. The chicory salad was huge, more than a Meal for 1 person. The dressing was super yummy, but the chicken was sparse and really dry. I also got the fried chicken sandwich, which again, had very little chicken that was dry and over cooked. ... everything was tasty enough to go back and try other items, but I have to admit I had higher hopes for the food. read more

Beautiful location and interior. Lots of outdoor (and outdoor-adjacent space) for nice weather dining. It's a visually attractive restaurant and I think aesthetics is the dimension on which this place excels. The food is fine. A very small menu. The main courses seem just enough to cover some restaurant consultant's idea of 1 fish, 1 chicken, 1 meat, and then a burger for hard-to-please types. I didn't find the options particularly interesting and for the prices charges, I think a customer has a right to expect a little more. For $30, I want more than small piece of trout on some arugula and for $38, I'd like a better cut of steak than a "hangar" steak. I ended up ordering the burger, which was good quality meat, well cooked, and on nice bun. However, it was under-seasoned, of which the same could be said for the accompanying fries. I had a similar reaction to my wife's trout -- it was just kind of plain. So maybe that's the vibe here. It's a rustic setting with unfussily prepared food that I would call under-prepared. The quality is fine and the location is nice, but I doubt anyone who eats there will later find themselves with a a craving for anything they ate there. Cafe is in a great location, which it was better managed. We placed an order and waited much longer than others. The people who ordered before us with a similar order were done before we got any food. When they brought our partial order, we asked where the rest of our order was, they said it was coming. Fast forward 20 min (nearly an hour after we ordered) and we went to check on the food. The order was never even submitted or given to the wrong table. We had to wait for them to remake it and take it to-go. The host didn't take accountability, was defensive and didn't even try to make the situation better. We made an impromptu plan to celebrate one of our friends birthday here as we couldn't get a reservation at another place in mill valley. I am glad we decided to go here. They have an amazing outdoor patio with string lights and heaters. Placing order is self service and then they deliver to your table. You also have to find your own table. We ordered quite a variety of things: grilled Brussel sprouts, pizzas without meat, cavatelli with lamb sausage, caldo de pollo, roasted chicken, salads, french fries. The food was very good though on the pricier side. The cocktails were decent. I do have to mention that we saw a few rats running across the tables outdoors and I hope the restaurant takes notice and does something about it. They have ample parking available. read more

Most delicious pizza!! Sadly they were out of their house made lemonade, but we got bottled root beers and it was all good! Lots of pleasant outdoor seating with heaters. Many options ranging from pizza to bbq. Very elevated and nice atmosphere. Would recommend! read more

We tried to get a table at Watershed just after they opened and were happily disappointed to find that they were all booked up! Luckily we were able to snag a table on our next try. The location at The Lumber Yard is unique, and they've done a great job honoring the space/location with a simple but warm interior. Our salad was great, as were our pizza and steak entrees. With the concrete floors and solid walls, the noise level did get loud at times, but that certainly wasn't a deal breaker. Unfortunately, they are not yet serving outdoors (not sure why), hopefully they'll be able to make use of that space soon. Watershed is a welcome addition to Mill Valley and we look forward to becoming regulars! read more

I've eaten at watershed many more times than I can remember. Let's begin with the setting... Set amidst the mill valley lumber yard the setting is pure magic. Sweet warm lights in the evening, a warm fire area and ample outdoor seating mark the charming (and very euro) appeal of the setting. Periodically they offer live music and it's just *chefs kiss* perfection with the setting. Watershed is a counter service restaurant. The wait staff are always is friendly and helpful, although sometimes in a hurry. In terms of the food it's very solid and consistent. Pizzas aren't quite as great as some others in the area, but absolutely scratch the za itch. We love the thick cut fries, the ribs, and often opt for the various grilled veg options for lunch or lighter dinner options. It's a great spot to linger over another drink or another course. We eat here a few times a month and we're so grateful for this MV staple. Amidst the unique setting, the great food and the ability to hang for long periods over lunch or dinner, it's a really special local spot! read more

Awesome new restaurant in Mill Valley! Chef Kyle Swain's food is approachable and affordable. I love the fact they source from local farms, ranches and fisheries. Everything we ate was perfectly cooked, fresh and delicious. The space in the Mill Valley lumberyard is fantastic. There is a large bar with ample seating and tables spread throughout. The decor is rustic casual with lots of windows and light. Apparently, the menu will be expanded so you can take food outside and eat at the outdoor table or in the courtyard space. The restaurant can be on the noisy side due to the building, music and crowds. It's a great place for a fun night out vs. a quiet, romantic meal. The menu isn't large, but there is something for everyone, including amazing pizzas. There are a number of wines on tap and a curated selection of beer. Between the food, location, atmosphere and reasonable prices, Watershed is destined to be a huge success. read more

Poor service, not sure what's with the host and the service there, but when I first walked in with 3 of my other Asian friends already felt not a good atmosphere in the servicing dept. The host didn't even ask if we want indoor or outdoor and just placed us at the most farthest outdoor table in the most blazing sun seating without shade. Sat there long enough and still did not get greeted from a waiter/waitress. Only a busboy dropped off 4 empty glasses (not even water). We immediately walked out. I rarely write reviews, but I just had the worst dining experience I can remember at Watershed, both in respect to food and service. We were seated for our reservation and the server attempted to immediately take our order, not drinks, but right away asking if we were ready to order our food. Seemed odd, but in the context of the rest of the meal now makes sense (they appear to want the quickest table turnover possible). The server took our order, and we never saw her again... no asking how we were doing, no asking if we wanted more drinks, nothing. We received our appetizer, and within the first bite, also received our main courses. We had also made clear that two people were sharing the main and there was no attempt to split it or bring an extra plate. Also, zero attempt at pleasantries or even a simple "how are we tonight" from the hostess or server (busers were nice). Oh, and they awkwardly squeezed in three diners at a two top next to us by angling one side of the table towards us, making it more cramped in all already full and loud dining room. None of this is especially egregious and has sadly become typical for restaurants in the Bay Area, but the food was also bad. Every part of the hanger steak with vegetables was overcooked and doused what tasted like some kind of balsamic reduction. All elements of the entree tasted the same - veggies, steak, potatoes. The plate looked like brown mush. This is easily the worst entree I've been served in recent memory. The other item we ordered were just OK. Half of the steak plate sat on the table for a good 5-10 minutes without anyone asking about it or interacting with us at all (surprising given how focused they seemed to be on getting us out, which we were eager to do by then, too). We finally flagged down the hostess for the check. Oh, and be aware they have a 4% surcharge for "minimum wage increases" which hits like a sneaky effort to cash in on SF restaurants also annoying but at least logical ~3.5% insurance mandate fee. I've seen 3% fees at other newish restaurants in Mill Valley for "government mandates" so unfortunately Watershed isn't alone in this trend. All this was surprising since I've had positive experiences here eating pizza for lunch. I don't think I'll return, but if I did, that's what I'd go for. Atmosphere is nice. read more

The Lumber Yard in Mill Valley is at the location of an original lumber mill, now populated with shops. Today I had lunch at Watershed, the main restaurant there. I had their Toasted Roast Beef Sandwich ($16), with gruyere, horseradish creme fraiche, caramelized onion, arugula, chips. The chips came with a cup of what I first thought was catsup, but turned out to be some sort of very good housemade tomato sauce. The sandwich was very good, all ingredients coming together as they should in a good sandwich. It had been a long time since I had been there, and I wasn't disappointed. read more

Ordered the Pesto and friends pizza. Well the pesto had some strange friends. Unwanted guests really , the kind who show up at your house and trash the joint. The pizza was to have basil pesto, shaved summer squash, mozzarella , pine nut, red onion. Well if it had a 'pine nut' we missed it. also couldn't find the red onion nor any sight of shaved summer squash . What we did find and what we didnt want was meat, unfortunately we found bacon and unfortunately some Broccoli. We are veg, so the bacon was picked off, and We hate broccoli , but its stinky flavor infused the pie. Bad pizza experience. Waste of money. read more

There's enough about the food here and the Hanger steak, etc. so let's talk about operations. It's always been convoluted to try to get a table here. We did get one this afternoon but it was strange. Previous attempts for dinner have required a 45 minute wait. That doesn't mean that the hostess isn't nice. It just means that it's not organized or easy. There are some tables you cannot get service so you have to order at the bar or with the busy hostess and the food will be brought to you. And those tables are the best location. Yet they are super uncomfortable. Old wine or barrels, and uncomfortable rickety hard chairs. And while we're at it, you have to go get your own utensils and water per the hostess. Table service is not included even though they ask you leave a 20-25% tip. We did. There's a lot of commotion going on behind the scenes yet the staff attitude except for the hostess is surly. Not pleasant or even appreciative. So there seems to be some missing links here between the fact that it's in a cool location yet they haven't figured out how to make sure that the guest has a good experience and for that matter has good food you can read all about it here.I wouldn't necessarily call it average, maybe 6 out of 10. It is Mill Valley so lower your expectations for operations and service being orchestrated. read more

I have heard friends rave about this place and I am so glad I finally made it here. Couldn't be a more beautiful location - outdoor seating with view of Mt Tam!! The inside spacious and bright with a mix of community seating and regular tables. The staff is passionate about their offering. My waiter was super friendly and accommodating. But most of all the food!! You can taste and see that they use the freshest and best ingredients. We were a group of 6 and shared everything and there was nothing I didn't like or wouldn't have again. My personal favorite the Hangar Steak salad - divine! I'm only giving them two stars, because I am very angry that when I ordered soup, just a simple cup of soup, it took about 18 minutes for them to bring it outside to me in a to-go bag. There were very few people there and I don't see how it could've taken so long. Also, I was unable actually to eat the soup because it was packaged in a plastic container that was melting into the soup by the time I open the bag to see it. I am really shocked that these people would pack a soup in a toxic plastic container. Not written pfoa and bpa free anywhere but wouldn't matter anyway. I think they should go to the Good Earth and see how these people package their soups... in biodegradable healthy packaging. I was unable to eat the soup because I was not going to eat plastic so I cannot review the food but I hear it's good. read more

Although this place can be crazy busy the energy is palpable! The employees are fun, engaging, and provide great service. I've come to learn that the service outside is divided. Sitting near the restaurant you'll get table service, sitting outside the immediate area you must order at the door and retrieve your own food when your number is called. Reading yelp reviews seems to be a lot of complaints in this department. Apparently it's an insurance issue (employees going past a certain point) not a poor service issue! A little pricey but good sandwich. I wish the salad was bigger and that there was more than just onions and roast beef in my sandwich. I think there was cheese too but I forget. But I guess that could be personal preference. For the price I think the salad could be bigger and maybe have tomatoes or something. Just to make it more filling. The kombucha was very good though, not too sour but had a decent alcohol content. I don't drink very much so 1 was enough for me . I do like the outdoor area very much, I feel pretty safe eating outdoors over there. The tables are decently spaced out. read more

Watershed has a great space as part of the unique lumber yard setting. I just wish the food and service were better. I had the smoked salmon and beet salad and it was totally uninspired. I asked that the creme fraiche be left off and they gave me a dry salad with smoked salmon from a package with some arugula and dry sesame seeds. The toast that goes with the mean was delivered 10 minutes late. Our other meal had way too much cheese. This is similar to many meals we have had there. It's a great spot, it just needs a better kitchen. Our waiter was very indifferent to providing good table service. We continue to be surprised that the restaurant is so mediocre. Oh well! read more

We love the Lumberyard and have always enjoyed eating at Watershed but we were super disappointed by an incredibly mediocre experience there last night. Disappointing enough, in fact, to warrant my very first yelp review. And, while we understand that these are really tough times in the service industry, with many businesses and restaurants struggling to bounce back after Covid and stay afloat, I've literally never had smaller portions of food for the price anywhere, ever. We started with the little gems salad...my 'go-to' favorite at Watershed that I've had numerous times...and it was so small I thought it was a half portion, like it had been split in half in the kitchen, as we had mentioned that we'd be sharing it. The salad was also missing the soft cooked egg that used to be served w/it...which is my favorite part so I asked about it...but our wait person seemed confused about my question and said the salad didn't include an egg. Next we were served our main course...we each had the halibut that came with clams and a little rice in some broth...and again the portions were so small they literally looked like quarter portions, like our meals had been split in half. The halibut itself was the smallest, thinnest square of fish I've ever seen at this price point ($34) and I counted just five little clams sprinkled with a few grains of rice on each. Needless to say, at this point we were disappointed and eager to liberate ourselves from the experience but did manage to stick around to split the cheesecake, another favorite...which tasted fine but was again a half portion of what we had been served previously in the past and showed up looking kind of destroyed, broken apart and plated very sloppily. Anyway, it l looks like we can no longer reliably expect good quality and or value out of Watershed...which makes us sad because it's been one of our favorite neighborhood places since it opened...we will probably be back for pizza and beer but never again for a full dinner unless and until some real effort is put in to rectifying these obvious shortcomings. read more

I would have loved to give this restaurant a higher rating but I couldn't help but feel discriminated by the male waiter that assisted us. He was quite passive-aggressive when taking our order and he had no problem accommodating to other tables but ours. When it was time to pay the bill he was nowhere to be found. What I can say is that the Mexican waiters were delightful, they took note and mitigated our situation. Arrived early on Sunday morning. Had to wait for them to open at 10:30. We understood that they had brunch available on weekends, but that was not the case. Basically some pizzas and some sandwiches -one egg dish shakshuka. Peach pizza was very nice, burger was cooked to order as medium rare but the meat was very, very dry. Shakshuka was flavorful, corn soup was good but at $10 for a small bowl seemed a little excessive. Grilled cheese and fried chicken sandwich were not too bad. Waitress seem very preoccupied with the one other table on the patio. Maybe she had some other stations inside, but hardly noticed us most of the morning. And they don't serve coffee at all! I guess because of the coffee kiosk, which is totally overloaded at the other end of the center is available (so to speak). First time and last time there. read more

Let me start by say that I want this bus. To succeed! But it all started with them putting our drinks on a table outside and no one telling us that we were suppose to pick them up! We went to Watershed looking forward to getting our regular ( chicken sandwich) and were very disappointed. Love be coming here for lunch. The atmosphere outside is so civilized and relaxing. What they have done with the old lumbar yard is welcoming and visually stimulating. Everything on the menu is delish and fresh. All worthy of sharing. Dinner is lovely too. If you sit inside, make sure not to face the sun setting. It is blinding, and there are no solar binds to shield your eyes. Not sure if this is intentional or a design oversight. Also, if loud environments are not your thing, sit outside, as the music is obnoxiously/uncomfortably loud in the evening. Highly everything on the menu. Yum!! read more
