We had lunch and liked sitting on the deck which was pleasant. Two of us ordered the special which was lobster roll. I've had lobster rolls at other restaurants, and what we received was not traditional. The lobster was not in big chunks. It was chopped up with onions, celery, maybe other vegies mixed with mayo kind of like a chopped chicken salad. The roll was very low quality, not buttered or grilled to be crisp. The side salad was on the same plate and not easy to eat. They put the top to my bun under the lettuce. At first I couldn't find it and when I did it was soggy. The food served to the others at our table was fine but not special. The service was friendly and prompt. For a place that appears upscale, we found the food, in general, mediocre. read more

Absolutely very disappointing. The Cafe was cute, the service excellent & friendly for sure. Spent over $60+ w/tip , drove an hour and a half specifically to have lunch there only to be served with Costco frozen fish and frozen shrimp and col slaw premade from a bag. Every single thing on my Shrimp plate, I had at home in my freezer from Costco. The Captains plate was small and again from Costco. The Clam Chowder came out barely warm and was pretty blah, but they gladly reheated it promptly with a smile. Waste of a drive, waste of money for sure. My family visited La Conner on our yearly trip to the tulip festival. We were originally going to eat at Whisker's but found it had closed and the Waterfront Cafe had taken it's place. When we visited it was fairly busy but there was an entire section that was open in back. We were told the only table we could have was outside on the patio. They then decided they could seat us and another couple in the back room. We could hear the hostess yelling across the restaurant at a waitress wanting to know if she could go in back because she had to seat two tables. She sounded a bit annoyed and didn't leave us feeling like we were welcome there. After several minutes the waitress took our order. The food took forever to arrive. We were served flat cokes and one of the lunches was incomplete. For what they lacked in speed they made up for in lunch entertainment. Two of the waitresses started bickering with each other about who was going to rearrange the tables in the area we were seated. Once the argument was over we got to listen to tables and chairs being dragged all over the floor right next to us. We finished our lunch and patiently waited for someone to ask if we needed anything else or whether we needed our bill or not. My wife finally decided to go up front and let them know we were done and paid the bill. The only reason I gave them two stars was because my fish and chips weren't half bad. I would have given them three stars if the waitresses would have started throwing punches at each other. read more

Dining in a tourist attraction town is always a dicey affair. Most establishments understand that the bulk of their clientele are just passing through, and don't care if you come back or not. La Conner Waterfront cafe stands out for the following reasons: 1) While the menu is pretty typical for this type of restaurant (fish & chips, burgers, etc), it is clear that the kitchen and the staff are proud of what they serve. I had the Captain's Platter, which included cod, prawns, and clam strips. The cod was hand cut and breaded, and was fresh and quite good. I was very surprised to find out, however, that the prawns and clam strips were frozen, prebreaded products. Usually I can tell as they tend to be a bit dry and chewy. The server explained that the chef is very particular about the quality of the foods he gets, and it shows. The salmon in my wife's salad was definitely not an afterthought either. 2) The servers bust their butts here! They are attentive, prompt, and seem to really care that you're getting a good dining experience. I get the impression they are fairly well paid and treated by the management, because they go about their duties with an enthusiasm that is above average for this sort of establishment. As I mentioned earlier, they seem to have a real sense of pride in their products, and it's apparent when they're answering questions about the food. They emphasize local wines and beers as well. My only critiques, and the reason I'm not awarding 5 stars, are (1) no beers on tap, and (2) rather limited menu. But please don't let this dissuade you; LWC is a standout in a rather crowded field of casual dining establishments in La Conner. I strongly recommend them. read more

It was fairly standard with fresh seafood but a bit of base that needs a little more umph -- it was creamy as an other but seemed to have more of a flour flavor than it should. So, three stars... I'm a fan - service was great, view was great, food was great. I ordered the Asian Chicken Salad and the ingredients were fresh and the dressing was really good. Their Peach Iced Tea was also really refreshing and made with their peach puree. My boyfriend had the Battered Halibut and Chips and wouldn't share so I think that means he liked it. I think we hit it just right because by the time we left the place was packed. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny day. The outdoor tables have umbrellas and are comfortable. It's a good spot for families too; they have a kids menu and highchairs. Not sure why it may have gotten questionable reviews. I have only positive things to say! read more

Decided to enjoy the weather and drive up to La Connor. I settled on Waterfront Cafe for lunch. It was good. I had the bacon cheeseburger with cole slaw. The burger was a little overcooked but most are these days. It had a lot of flavor, the bacon was fresh and crispy. The homemade relish looked like 1000 island but was good. The cole slaw was good too but I was told it wasn't homemade. Just a nice basic burger that satisfied. I had their peach ice tea to drink. It was good, but would have liked more peach flavor. They were slightly busy, the outside was full as ^to be expected in such a nice day. I will try it again and next time try their famous fish and chips (that's what their sign says anyway). read more

Came here for a quick lunch after touring the tulip fields. The view is great, and they have plenty of patio seating, which would be amazing once the weather improves. We watched bald eagles divebomb seagulls and herons skim the water while we ate. That was awesome. The food and service was just okay. I had the grilled shrimp with fries, and while I got a substantial amount of shrimp, the butter sauce they were sauteed in was a bit bland. Could have used more garlic. My friend's salmon burger was good, although quite obviously previously frozen. The peach iced tea was delicious, and free refills! The servers were nice enough, although a bit disinterested. When we came in, we stood in front of three of them and no one acknowledged us for a good minute or two. We continued to see this happen to everyone that walked in. Luckily, once we were sat the servers were perfectly nice. It's a good location with an amazing view, but the food and service are just okay, although the prices are great. read more

Best fish and chips ever! We love the riverfront cafe! We stopped by most recently on a Sunday at 4:15pm. They closed at 4pm and we were really disappointed to find that they were supposed to close at 4pm. However, when we walked in they offered to make us fish and chips even though they were closed! We were able to find a great table on the patio overlooking the river. We ordered 2 fish and chips and 2 iced teas and the food as always did not disappoint! The fish is breaded in a panko crust that gives it the perfect crunch! Not overly greasy! The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. and the tarter sauce is to die for! (I believe its handmade). As we left our waitress offered to give us a refill ice tea to go! We took her up on it and enjoyed as we strolled and shopped the town! Honestly, I wouldn't have minded if the waitress bothered to come back....she never did. When I asked another waitress for a beverage refill, she gave the scripted "I'll let your waitress know" After waiting...and waiting for the bill, we went to the register. Boy, you'd better believe that our waitress showed up quickly and produced our bill, like she could have cared less that we were at the counter and not at our table. I see a major issue and can forsee how they will continue to drop crappy service in the future. In a restaurant with indoor and patio seating all three servers had tables in all sections, running around like decapitated chickens. They need a manager who can organize work flow, because those girls can't do it on their own. read more

Appetizer of Garlic Buttered Shrimp Skewers were nicely cooked and tasty. Chef Dagmar's homemade New England style chowder was very good, having lots of Clams and good flavor. The combination of fried Breaded Shrimp, fried Coconut Shrimp, and Sauteed Shrimp w/ Garlic were all very good; the fried shrimp were plump and fried to a golden brown color, sauteed shrimp had a nice garlic flavor; none were overcooked. The clam chowder is definitely worth coming for - they loaded it with clams which is a great thing and the seating outside we loved! We ordered halibut fish and chips and for some reason it is definitely in our heads that it was frozen out of a box halibut because the pieces were in flat triangular shapes like they are when you buy frozen cod/ halibut at places like Costco. Our waitress was very friendly and very attentive and even brought our dog a bowl of water. We will definitely come back for the chowder and to try other menu items. Infact, all the food was uninspiring. Even though the fish was okay, it looked like mass produced breaded fish from a box (it wasn't..), and the shrimp was bland and boring. I don't know. I will never go there!!! I stopped by to do a take out order. The lady refused to let me see a menu until I put a mask on. I have a medical condition, and a note from my doctor saying I am excluded from wearing a mask. She didn't care. She literally held the menu behind her back as if I was going to snatch it from her. I was made to feel like a criminal. I guess they never heard of the disability act of 1988 nor HIPAA. They argued with me and made me feel as if I was being harassed. I went somewhere else with no problem. They refused me service because of a disability, which is clearly stated in the CDC guidelines of who are exempt. I will be reporting this business to HIPAA . It has a 4 1/2 star view and a nice deck for dining on a beautiful day. The problem is the food is not that great. We did love the Clam Chowder but the Fish and chips were at best OK. The fries were at best eatable and not overly warm - actually on the cold soggy side. They are frozen and you can tell. The fish did not taste bad but no more than 3 stars. They have good fried fish and the shrimp on the shrimp louie salad was good but, the fries were unseasoned and limp, the peach ice-tea tasted like peach kool-aid added to ice-tea mix (blech). The plates looked plain. The 1000-island salad dressing tasted home-made. If it was, they should learn how to construct a good salad and make some money. I'll start with the service. The waitress gave my wife a glass of wine that had lipstick on it. Fortunately, she saw it as she was setting it down and went and got a clean glass. Something like that should have been caught before she brought it out. Timing for taking our order was good. They kept my bottomless iced tea coming. The food came in a reasonable amount of time. The seafood chowder was awful. I can get better chowder from a can. The menu described the Texas toast as "cheesy", and they were right. I don't know what they use, but it tasted like some sort of spread that melts into the toast, not real cheese. They did not wipe our table after we were done with the food and had taken away the dishes. I was still sipping on my iced tea and my wife had another glass of wine. When the waitress brought the tab, the holder had liquid on it (appeared to be water), and she made a feeble attempt to wipe it with her hand and left it wet. How gauche! I was going to pay with a credit card, but I think they forgot we existed. Fortunately, I had enough cash to pay in exact change, so I put it in the wet holder and we left, and that's all they got, no tip! read more

Wow!! The grilled salmon was amazing! It had a nice light char on it and a glaze that was perfect! It was the local salmon and not the Wild Alaskan Salmon. This was even better as the local salmon was fresh and made its way into my top two of all time. Staff was friendly and sitting in the sun by the water was a bonus. I could tell some of the locals were not to welcoming of outsiders but the staff didn't reflect this at all. Definitely going back! read more

It's called a "cafe," which is exactly what it feels like. But the prices were outrageous for a "cafe." I had fish and chips for about $16. I don't usually comment much on the prices (if you have the time, you can take a look at all my reviews and let me know if I'm wrong on that one but I don't think price is usually a factor for me), so it stood out here. The "chips" were generic frozen fries but the fish was pretty good. Location was good.... along the boardwalk. Though it was a little difficult to find. The best part about the place was that our server was awesome! Very attentive and friendly. If I hadn't blown my wad on overpriced fish, she would have gotten an even bigger tip! p.s. If you did look over my past reviews, you'll notice that I'm a vegetarian. Because we were so close to the water, I thought I would step outside my usual and try the fish.
